This type of video is what we need more of. Orks are commonly capable of building additional units from left over bitz but you rarely see videos on it.
I think Orcs (and Chaos dudes) can be quite obvious for kitbasher, but this has a lot of innovative design to it.

For next Monday's video, how about a tutorial on Painting a Crimson Fist. I first got into 40k way back when Rogue Trader was released. The cover artwork by John Sibbick captured my imagination but the teenage me struggled to paint the RTB01 space marines to the standard I wanted. Now with the release of the Horus Heresy, the original marines have been re-designed and proportioned and look fantastic. I'd love to see you paint up a modern MK VI space marine but keep the vibe of the old school judge dredd comic book style with lots of 'kill' and 'death' grafitti over the armour.
And paint them while listening to Bolt Thrower

Neat idea. I just wish the fluff you used had smaller fibers, so it'd sell smoke better. To me it kinda looks like furball or some weird plant fibers and vines. Still looks great!
I like how it turned out in the end, but would also be interested in seeing the same done with something like cotton balls maybe
I think I agree. Although the models do look good, in my opinion they would look even better with a thinner fiber and less of it, something more whispy,bto perhaps look more like smoke. Nevertheless, this shows you need to trust the process as they do look good.

Jay, imma be honest, as soon as you put the woolly stuff on, i thought it looked kinda crap. BUT BLOODY HELL! Your paintjob has entirely changed my mind, especially the work in with the lore. Your perseverance and creativity is what really makes your videos f***ing AWESOME! Keep up the fantastic work!!
Unfortunately, I can't unsee giant balls of pubes. I think a finer stuffing would have been better or way less of it
Initially I was so skeptical about the fluff but have to say it really did come together with that last darkening down with the more putrid brown color. Really great outside-the-box thinking. Great stuff as usual!
Im not sure I dig that smoke effect. But my collection is full of weird convertions only I appreciate, so I understand. Nice paint job as usual!!

Another option - 3d print the missing parts. You can extend a suprising number of kits this way
Feel like smoke made out of green stuff or milliput, or even 3d printed, would have ended with a much nicer effect, personally find the bundle of fluff super distracting from the otherwise lovely paintjob

Another option would be using bluestuff to make a few extra copies of the wormy bodies and tails and just building both kits normally.
This, recast those extra body parts.

The fluff is getting most of the attention but also want to call attention to those beads being used to look like bubbles about to pop. Definitely stealing that idea!

For my extra venom bits. I 3d printed some tails and made 3 venom's, then used the body's and my hive guard bits and some seashells to make some biovores. I still need to finish those.

I don't play Warhammer, or do anything with minis at all, but gosh dang your videos are addictive.
Since I started with Orks, I can't help but wholeheartedly cheer you on! This is fantastic, and a fun look at an interesting dilemma. With the price of kits, I don't blame ya! I do admit, I think the fluff could have been teased out more, make it more of a whispy cloud, but it works and that is what matters. They're free! How can you complain?
Nice build. But I wonder why you did not take some parts of the sprue and some green stuff (whatever) to model some of those smake-stack spines of the Venomthrope? These are a defining part of the creature as the spore clouds emit from them. You could even try to let the smoke come from those.
Honestly I'm really glad the bits replacement wasn't just a 3d print of the actual model's body. Always fun to see creative choices and I think you're onto something with the smoke
I went for the magnetization option for my 6 zoan/venomthropes. Honestly not too difficult, but I didn't have a good replacement for the smokestacks on the venoms so I just left them off. The sculpted balls are a really good replacement
Rather than chimney, the word spiracle is the word you are looking for. The tyranids look like they have exoskeletons and they seem to be arthropods, so spiracle is appropriate.
I did kinda the same thing using Reaper's Bathalian Centurion bodies. They turned out pretty good.

Im one of them...I bought 1 box of these when I joined up, same purchase as my Leviathon box....ahhhh what a glorious year...8000 points of tyanids annndddd 6 other armies....ye a h. Alot a balls
There’s so many ways to make this kit into 6 models instead of 2 I used very few parts and some green stuff and also got a good result I love yours I did custom zoanthropes not venoms
Best way is to cast the missing parts with blue stuff and Apoxie Sculpt. Though, if you did that on TH-cam, then James Workshop would send his goons after you

3d printer nid parts. I got a tyrant like torso, and just used leftover flying tyrant parts after making a standard one.
I think your Venomthrope models look better than the concept art. I like the smoke coming from the bottom, like there's so much going on inside that you can't see. So creepy. Overall great use of the extra bits from an insanely expensive kit.

My man, the bit rate did NOT like that fluff. Second you started squishing that stuff around it looked like I was t wearing my glasses.
I dont think the smoke looks right. The issue with cotton is that it gets all "ropey" when you paint it. I think it would've looked better to either sculpt the smoke or kitbash them so they look more balloon-ish

Is there a way to create the style of airbrushing the base ( black and white) without an airbrush?
I acctually haven't brought Zoanthropes. I want some but every time I pick up the box my brain goes "that's £15 a mini and they are not even that big!" But with a slightly modified version of what you showed me I can probably convince said brain £7.50 a model is better.

I honestly thought of the same thing, but rather want to go by the method that Whatthe40k went with the Custom Biovores. I might consider instead of building custom vents to add more greenstuff bubbles on the back, but I kinda want these guys to look and act like crawlers, perhaps even similiar to the StarCraft 2 infestor.
But yeah, with 9 Zoanthropes, 9 Venomthropes would go wonderfully...
at first I thought you gonna stl the tails or just use wire and greenstuff to make the new tails. I'm surprised.
