You know back in the day, we all used to build our cars rather than buy them. It ought to be the same perception today but I get it, some people just find it easier to buy up a trim. I am old school so I’d rather build it. Buying a hellcat could be cheaper but I’d rather build this challenger rt I got myself and call it whatever (hellhound, cerebus, lucifer, etc.) than just buy it. It is awesome as it is but you know we all get bit by the modding bug eventually. Good message R/T keep hurting them feelings brother!
Couldn't agree with you anymore. Modding to me is all part of the fun of this hobby. I honestly don't think I could have afforded having a 392 & doing heavy mods. So doing this has opened up the door to having all this fun. Thank you for the support & keep on enjoying that Hemi.
I think its more of where people can afford their baseline. Just because someone prefers to build, doesnt mean they should go with the cheapest bare bones to build on. I get your thinking and I feel a lot better about a bolt I tightened vs a bolt the factory put on. But if I could afford a 392 over a 5.7, I'd go 392 and build on it. But if all you can get or prefer is a 5.7, theres no wrong in that. Every mopar I've ever owned has been 5.7 and no bigger or better so I'm not a 392er talking down on the 5.7 guys lol
I modded a 2014 V6 Mustang and it performs well for what it is. However, if I had to do it all over again I would have gone with the GT. It's just a better platform and there are some things I didn't even think about that were hidden expenses in modding a car with a smaller engine. For example, I had to install a larger exhaust system. My cats would go into overtemperature and I cooked them because the exhaust was too small. I have an extra Ford Performance axle back that I will sell for a third of the cost that I paid for them. (I don't need them with a new exhaust system.) Like most people there were a couple mods that were a waste of money. Try selling or trading in a modded car. You won't get sh*t for it. A similarly equipped 2014 Mustang GT is worth about $10,000 more than the V6 Mustang. The difference in resale value between the 392 and the R/T is about the same. Having said that, I like my car and I plan to keep it. The long face that a GT owner has when he loses to a V6 is priceless. It's fun and frustrating at times when modding a car. Saving money and then putting it into your car creates a high level of anticipation. Sometimes your pleased with the result. Other times you're disappointed. The interaction with other people when you mod a car is enjoyable. I did learn a lot while modding my car. I like your latest video because you kept it real.
R/T Life keep up the intel and upgrades. Hopefully I can get East and let you see my ride. I’m in a 14 RT HCI/FBO 100 shot plate, stall, and GetRag swap. Everything has been done by my hand
@R/T LIFE man I need to ask you what's your take on this 354 ci engine in this drag pak car? Why is it all over you tube? Is it ohc? And why didn't they just stay with the 6.2 platform?
You wouldn’t have had this channel be so successful if you bought a 392. Everyone has those. Not everyone has a 5.7 that they mod. So it’s really priceless for you.
I probably wouldn't have had a channel with that 392. Most likely wouldn't have uploaded a video of it. I had another channel before this & I uploaded a mid muffler delete on this RT for my own reasons. Never thought it would turn into a channel.
I look at it this way. Buy and/or build and drive whatever you like. But when it's all said and done, there will always be someone out there faster than you.
I can say from first hand experience, modding the 5.7 is awesome if you don’t want the 392 insurance, just have to do research and make sure you go to a reputable shop. I now have a 392 swapped R/T Cammed and kept the same insurance.
Love your channel. I bought my 18 Challenger RT about 4 months ago, Ive been modding like crazy since and your channel has provided immense wisdom for me. I got my first chance to run on a road track where I live, and as the only Mopar there in a sea of Z06, ZL1, Mustangs and imports It proved itself very worthy! j green tune, cam and headers is next
Nice!!! Glad you’re modding and running that hemi, showing people just how good theses things are. Thank you for the support & keep on enjoying that beast
Great information man! I think you're one of the few youtubers that gives great in depth information about your overall build which gives people a great ball park number of what someone would be looking at to do something similar to you. Also, theres not a lot of videos out there of full Bolt on and cammed RT so I'm glad your channel is doing great!
yah man when I 1st kicked off this channel I didn't see any 5.7L channels. That was a little after RP Productions got his scatpack & traded in his RT. Having this channel has been so damn cool & I think being as transparent as possible is really important. Helps people decide what to do with their hard earned money. Thanks man for the support & keep on crushing people with that 392!!! It's a beast
Hell yes!!! I’ve been looking for over a year and contemplating on getting the 392, I currently own a 2011 charger rt 5.7L with a few mods and I have now decided on keeping it and continue moding it. Love the channel
Solid points made. But one overlooked is factory warranty. A modded motor will pretty much void factory warranty dependent on dealer and mods. That can greatly affect cost of ownership if something isnt covered by the dealer. I'm sure you know this, but I've seen a few younger guys get their feelings hurt at the dealer for blowing motors(on another platform not hemi's)
Warranty is def a big deal with these more expensive, newer models. Always nice to have that security blanket. I personally said screw it though after working with some dealerships on smaller things. I've heard some bad stories as well though.
@@RTLife prime example I have a 'lifetime brake' warranty. I only have 21000 km on my car & was in the dealer for scheduled service when they hit me up for $176 plus tax for a brake service 🤔. I've looked at them prior & I know they are fine but just to keep the so called warranty I have to spend almost $200. I priced out all new rotors, pads & calipers for a total of $900. I'm sure by the time any of these parts would be needed it would be less than the warranty route. "Damn stealerships!"
The 5.7 is the better block, more room to grow and I love the low monthly payments. For a stock motor the 392 is great but the potential to make big power safely is greater with the 5.7. Thank you for always speaking up for the 345
The cost of ownership for me is a bargain & no brainer to keep/mod. 0 regrets modding this thing on my end. Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it.
My insurance on on a 19 went up from 160.00 to 220.00 a year.. not that bad in my opinion for that bad boy!! Just a FYI that was a 16 RT that I was paying the 160 a month. It seems to be really high but living close to Mexico and most vehicles that come up missing end up there. Be sure when figuring that insurance that each year that premium does go down yearly due to it getting older. You gotta better do it dude I’m not regretting buying this 392 one bit! Just Do It!!
Been watching your channel since you started. Love my 15 Rt and i love your build. You have helped me a lot in my route for performance mods. Thank you.
I love the fact that you realized the actual up front costs of a 392 and actually went the route that you did. Builds cost money and take time. I would rather have gone the same route as you vs spending all that money up front. My uncle used to build sleepers back in the day and he could appreciate that performance could be had with some extra cash, but it didn't have to be today. Your car is fantastic in every way. But it was an expensive journey... but, it can be made faster and the old parts can be sold to someone wanting better and your new build will be done on the cheap. The theory of no replacement for displacement does not ring true with modern cars. Some newer engines just can't be modded without breaking the bank. The 5.7 has been around long enough to make performance parts widely available and tunes are getting better and better and not at the expense of the owner for trying to go over the top...
In the end you have to pay for performance one way or another. I just like having that cost of ownership expense as low as possible & enjoy researching, finding ways to improve my ride as a hobby. In the process I've learned a ton, made a channel & realized how good the 5.7 is. Def no regrets on my end
Great video! You got me with the 392 mods because on my SRT Jeep I only did an axle-back exhaust, mid muffler delete, and intake lol. That’s good enough for me. I want to do much more with my 5.7 Challenger thanks to you.
Great video and great detail! Thank you for sharing. There is one consideration that you didn’t bring into the equation and that is trade in value and depreciation. You mod any car as you have yours and practically all dealers will laugh at you and actually give you substantially less than book value for it. An unmodded or slightly modded 392 will trade in much higher in value towards your next buy. So value retention is a big whammy to cost of ownership. You’ve got a stout 345 no doubt!!! This is a great journey you’ve taken us all through!
Very true about resale - that's why you have to see it privately. Each of the cars I've had in the past were sold privately because I knew I wouldn't get much in trade. Thank you for watching the journey - I'm learning a ton along the way. It's been a blast sharing the info with you guys.
Your really doing good with that i got a 2020 charger hellcat widebody. As well as my 2013 5.7 charger still. I love them both so much i made around 630ish with a supercharger and i see you have people install your stuff i glad i didnt cause i gained knowledge and saved a hell of alot of money. But i digress, love your channel
I bought a 2018 R/T Shaker this past April. I was looking at a R/T scat pack with a shaker hood, both were Tor red. The scat was $9,000 more. Both had about 8,000 miles. The insurance made me chose the R/T Shaker. I plan on molding it eventually because you inspired me man.
Very honest op ed and you hit the ball out of the park!! Bit more on Jay Greene or Jannety racing many of us are interested in modding" BUT at a lesser degree financially. In other words the most BANG for the least amount of money without losing out on driving the car daily.
I chuckled a little you mention the quality of the shop but at 7:20 there's a guy rebuilding your engine with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. But you always put out good content though, you're channel was the reason I pulled the trigger on getting a hemi. 👌🏾
When I saw the Marlboro hanging out of his mouth I thought, "this is EXACTLY the kind of guy I would want working on a Hemi. Pure Americana." Immediately subscribed.
Thanks for the info bro, it was much appreciated. I had a 2017 RT and wanted to modify the heck out of it. I didn't get passed a mid muffler delete and a air intake. I'm looking to get a scatpack now and do similar mods you did to your Rt. I want a sleeper for those Hellcat boys lol.
When I purchased my 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T in 2017, I had no intentions in modding it. My plan was to keep it stock. I started with a Magnaflow cat-back, K&N Cold Air Intake and 20” Lexani rims. Once I started I couldn’t stop. I went on to purchase a SuperChips tuner and AMP’d Throttle booster. I was hooked. My Daytona is currently at Extreme Muscle Performance getting a Cam kit, American Racing Long rube headers and custom tune. I wasn’t thinking about modifying my Daytona or insurance. Looking back I’m Glad I went with the 5.7l Hemi.
hahaha that's awesome! Hell of a mod list you have there. Let me know what you think after the next round of mods. That thing should pull hard after that cam & long tubes!!!
I got a brand new 2018 Challenger R/T ScatPack 392 for CAD$50,000 with $1,000 down, and never looked back. You cannot beat 475 let-ft of torque from the factory. This thing is a beast.
I got my brand new 392, and pay $415 a month, I got a really good deal. The dealership I got it from surprisingly worked with almost all of my terms before buying 🙏🏽💪🏽, great video man!
Good insight my friend and I ended up getting a 2016 300S and I just ordered my manifold, throttle body, and and intake. On my way following your blueprint.
Great Video. At least you have learnt about your car and built yourself. It is not just about money as you say. Mine is an old 300c touring 2005. When I brought it last year had 218,000 miles but still runs great. It only cost £2000.00 I am going to mod the crap out of it starting next year
I like the route you went. From an appearance standpoint I dig the blacked out front grill area of the R/T gives it a mean and unique look. I do also like the SRT from the 12-14 years better than the current ones but I think the newer 8 spd you have is a huge advantage over those earlier SRT 5 spds. I'd love to go this route with cams for my '12 R/T Ram truck or maybe my wife's 300c AWD that might be fun too.
You’re on point with this one! I love my 2016 6speed 5.7 and modding it, cam headers and a full tune goes a long ways in these 5.7 Hemi’s, now I’m making 430 wheel and the best part it’s still insured as a regular R/T nice and cheap but it’s much more than that, the cam and chop my car makes always has 6.4 scat guys gawking and looking and usually get nothing but positive comments and questions just cause it’s a modded choppy 5.7 hemi 👍💪
Damn right! These 5.7L hemi's can be modded to an awesome point - I love it. I realized how far you can go with these things & said let's see try it out!! Thanks man for always supporting the channel.
I'm totally with you on the sleeper. I'm in a 2013 300C with a 5.7, stock motor with JBA cat delete, Corsa catback, and a P1X Procharger @ 7.5#s of boost, tuned of course. I'm pushing right at 500 to the wheels. No one ever sees me coming, they just see me going lol! Big shout out to Jeremy Satera at Satera tuning in Illinois. He did the dyno tune while me and a buddy turned wrenches at my buddies garage.
I’m glad you made this video. I have a 2017 300 Sport. And I was thinking of getting the 2020 charger but I think I’m gonna jus keep my luxury and mod it out. Great video my brotha
We should call you Mopar Molly Maid your just frighten cleaning up ..lol . I love it I what ever you just done is coming together must be the new tune that's optimizing all your mods.
Thank you very much - these 5.7L Hemi's are great. Happy to keep highlighting them & showing off their potential. I appreciate the support - oh & forced air is very likely :)
Great breakdown and comparison, at the time I bought my RT Challenger they didn’t have the scatpack, the srt8 was 17k more, granite it had more bells and whistles but that’s a lot of money, no regrets on my RT, love it, thank you 👍😁
I used to live in a wealthy town where many of the high school graduates in the football team all got brand new Trans Ams. My friend who's parent were rich refused to buy him anything, wanted him to earn it and be motivated. Since he did not want to go to college he went instead to Rhode Island Trade school to learn automechanics. He found a 1975 Firebird Formula with a weak motor and blown transmission and that car became the project car at his school. The stripped the whole drive train out and put in top quality racing everything. His Car was the fastest thing in town, we would race anyone and always win. It was natually aspirated, so by today's standards not nearly as fast but we had a lot of fun with it. In my personal opinion I think it is best to find a FULLY BUILT Car and motor by someone who needs money badly OR buy one at a depressed price because it has engine or transmission problems and do it up that way. Save a LOT of money and frustration.
You created a nice Mod formula.. I think you should Mod a 5.7 up to a certain point . Anything after that is squeezing blood from a Turnip Until you enter Superchargers.
Going the bottom to the top with my modding of my 5.7. Big brake upgrade from stop tech, Eibach pro plus, and some demon replicas to fit 305s...Than when that's paid for, I'm doing a full build from Arrington... Hope to have everything done by next year. Looking for 500 whp from Arrington for 10 grand.. Includes heads, cam, long tubes ,fuel system, tune... Talked to a rep and I'm excited to have a sleeper! Will take plenty of pictures.
That thing is going to be a monster! Sounds like a solid game plan for that Hemi. Def let me know how it goes - when you're done maybe we can get it up on the channel.
@@RTLife I cant wait to have a solid build ready for a supercharger or turbo down the line . Right know it would be awsome to be naturally aspirated and on e85 punishing bigger hemis..
I was actually looking for a 2014 super b but found myself a 17 charger scat pack for 32k and couldn't help but go down to the dealer and drive it around feel in love with it and have been owning it for a year in September ...time flys gotta love what you have and the 5.7 is great too was thinking of getting that before as well
Those super bee's are so damn cool, I really wanted one. That's a hell of a price for that scatpack - nicely done! Thank you for the support, def appreciate it.
Ahh perfect time for me to cam my maggy and add stronger internals. the heads are already in process of being removed 🥳 appreciate it man love the content
Ive modded every car Ive ever owned. My Scatpack will be no different. Intake, exhaust, tires, and shorty headers already. Boost coming next year. Lifes too short to stay stock. Sick build.
I am old-school to I would be so happy to be able to still build my own car but due to some Strokes I'm no longer capable of doing that so I'm having to have it built and I'm looking for ways to do it
My insurance on the 392 is only 12$ a month more than what my R/T was. I live in upstate NY. I don’t even notice the difference in cost. My car payment on the scatpack is 150$ a month more than the R/T and I spend a little bit more in gas. IMO it’s worth the extra money if your budget allows. If I wasn’t able to step up into the scatpack I still would have been fine with my R/T. You did a great job on yours.
The insurance bump wasn't to bad for you! How much do you pay for insurance? I def understand though, the 392 really has noticeable amount of performance difference esp once you start doing pulls on a HWY. That 392 is a big engine.
R/T Life I think it’s under a hundred a month for my insurance but I have my Charger, Jeep and house insurance all bundled into one pmt. 220$ a month for everything.
As always you are spot on. It’s about personal preference to either build a 5.7 or buy the 6.4 or a hellcat. Personally, I loved the fact that I got the 5.7 vs the 6.4, but at the time I didn’t know it. Through your channel and a few others it got me modding my 5.7. Wow! It has been fun. Did I do all the work? No. But just seeing the gains on the dyno and the track was amazing. I fall back to the old Marine saying just tweaked for this situation. There are many 5.7s out there but this one is mine. We have very similar mods but different manufacturers which I think has made minor performance differences. Hey, getting used to the high stall torque converter and have some 18” rims and Nitto NT05Rs coming. We will see how much a difference tires really make.
You're going to kick my ass hahahaha! you have yourself a badass build & it's been awesome being able to get it up on the channel. Thank you for watching, supporting & helping this channel grow. I really do appreciate it & keep on hurting feelings out there with that 5.7L!
very good thought out comparison. only thing you left out that I always struggle with is the resale value and the fact your car has a 8 speed and the scat had a 5. in the end if you sell it you'd recoup more with the scat, during the ownership the 8 speed and knowing you made it faster is probably the way I would go also....good video as always
Great video and analysis. One thing you should factor is depreciation and resell value. My stock 2016 Challanger Scat has only depreciated 2k. Also 9 times out of ten you will never recover the cost of your mods when you resell (except maybe a supercharger, turbo, etc). All the other mods...no value. In fact it is harder to sell heavily modded vehicles. The average buyer is worried you stressed the internals beyond oem spec. The Scat badge means a lot to collectors. Why would anyone finance for 72 months...that is crazy to many. Paying all that interest is insane. I suggest you just save more money and pay cash. Also my insurance is $80 as it is bundled with my home owners insurance. Paying twice that is nuts.
It's not tuned properly, it's held back out of factory. With just a diablo 93 tune see how much WHP you gain. Look at the rams w/ 5.7 - 395hp out of factory.
You are absolutely correct R/T. Factory tunes cars for emissions requirements, C.A.R.B etc.. When someone makes smart mods, like intake, exhaust, tune and basically anything else that allows more air and fuel to be ingested/expelled..Big smiles happen with every smack of the fun pedal!
@@RTLife i got R/T challenger i lined up with a ram and dusted him. not sure if it was driver error but he couldn't catch me. all i have added is exhaust..
@@RTLife I'm going back and forth honestly. your route would probably be best in the long run. It would also save me a few dollars. I simply have a goal of the 500hp club.
@@IheartBass I've read many places that the internals of our 5.7 L's will handle up to 500 horsepower at the crank. I'm sure that it's 510 in some and 490 and others but if you're going for 500 wheel horsepower you're probably going to want to beef up your internals. I know it's expensive you can do it incrementally but you don't want to be beating the hell out of the car until it's done. Actually in the long run you really don't want to be beating the hell out of the car, period.
I've got Texas speed cam with all new top end and longtube headers and I'm running a 150 shot. I'm 525 whp and it's fun. Bottom end I've been told by numerous nitrous guys that they can handle 200 shot easy. You should be good at 500 whp
Scott M have you looked into a Ripp Supercharger? They claim that you can bolt on one of their superchargers without any additional modifications to your car. They have many videos on TH-cam using stock vehicles.
My buddy bought a 12 srt8 for $25k and it has 33k miles and he was able to get factory extended warranty. It was all stock on and excellent history no wrecks one owner. 392s are affordable. He could have afforded a newer srt8 challenger but didn't like the interiors at all. He also has a by charge 2014 he got for cheap as hell too and it's nice.
That's a really solid deal for a 392 with 33k miles. The tough part for me is dealers screw you, the sticker plus all these fees and taxes always end up putting the monthly payments so much higher. Hope it does well for him
392's 485 engine HP is that happy medium in were you're not in a rush to do any major engine mods so you wouldn't be too anxious to mod the engine to gain an additional 100-200 hp unless you're drag or road racing on a regular basis. I see more cosmetic changes, lowering kits, splitters wicker bills vinyl wraps etc to Scats than any significant engine mods. That tells me the 400+ hp of the Scat is that happy medium. You can mod a 5.7 to gain at least 400 hp to the wheels, to a stock 6.4 @430 hp to the wheels both will run 12s in the 1/4, that's something to think about.
yah it all depends on the owner & what they would like to do with their ride. Most just upgrade to a 392 which is understandable. They have a lot of power out of the box.
Nice video. Not a fare comparison of a mod 5.7 to a stock 6.4. You will always have the edge. Mod for mod, there wouldn't be a comparison. I have a friend with a mod 5.7 challenger doing the same thing in races against stock 6.4. No chance. That's like comparing a 6.4 to a Hellcat. Keep the content coming. I love your channel.
Yah I pretty much said that in the video. Always start with the highest platform your budget can handle because it takes less $$$ to achieve higher performance. Either way, these hemi's are a ton of fun regardless which one. Thank you for the support.
You choose the right car that’s what makes your channel 😎It’s good to see you give yourself some credit. You always give the credit to everybody else😂😎👍
Thank you very much - yah I'm really glad everything worked out the way it has. The reason this channel exists is because of this RT. I appreciate it man
Love your channel definitely am learning a lot about the Hemi lifestyle and all of the Alleyways I can go about making my car faster but first I want to learn what I have my five seven 2018 RT Charger
I am putting a 5 7 into a project car in building and I was wondering what kind of a fordable mods can be done or what kind of programming could be done since he'll be set as a stand-alone in a vintage car to get maximum mileage it's a 2017 I know that it's supposed to get around 20 23 or 26 miles to the gallon in my car is about 800 pounds lighter I would like to try and get 30 miles to the gallon out of it it's probably not realistic but if I I've seen it done before I was wondering what could be done on the cheap weather thanks
Thanks for sharing the comparison! I finally got a Charger last month! 2017 Destroyer Gray RT....Paid just under $23k for it. Same dealership had a few used 392s on the lot selling for $36k+. Imo, a 392 is not worth that much more over a RT. Esp as a daily driver. As that 392 Challenger build you feature on the channel mentioned, the n/a v8 isnt built to handle boost. The pistons more specifically, so if you want serious power, youre looking at replacing some internals. If youre serious about speed and power, you might as well consider a Hellcat. If you want simple bolt ons, a RT is fine.
Exactly!!! Thank you. The price difference in the end was so much more when all the numbers were crunched. I kept getting the whole it's only $5K more nonsense. The hellcat is def the way to go if you're looking for 9-10 second 1/4 mile times.
Awsome video. For some reason I pay $45.00 per month for full coverage on my 2016 Scatpack/shaker. I'm in NE, am in my 40s. Haven't had a ticket for 22 years.
How big a difference would it have been performance wise if you had done procharger compared to this? I have a buddy whose a mechanic that would put the pro charger in for me at almost no cost. Just wondering what route I should take and if procharged ultimately is much more noticeable in gains.
If I went procharger & ran 6-7 lbs on the stock bottom end it would be a better performance ride. That being said this is a safer route for the longevity of the engine. If I go forced air it needs to be done right.
If I had an RT and needed to replace the motor for whatever reason, I would probably get a low mile 392 and have seen many for sale on average for around 4k or so with trans if someone wanted to go on the cheap. You can even get new crate for about 7500, and that is with warranty. Especially if a guy has to pay a shop to do the work, and could get really expensive very quickly to do a lot of internal components
If you can drop a 392 with super low miles for under 5-6K I would say do it. Getting to that power level would cost more. After everything I did you're looking at 8k - the 392 in my opinion has a higher ceiling. Can be bored/stroked to 440 & be an N/A beast or 426 & get forced air.
Hey R/T! New subscriber here. Also new owner of a 2019 Challenger R/T. Since I started with this car I've been in love with it and I feel it deserves more in both looks and performance. I purchased it at 25k and have been going over all your videos and have gotten good ideas. I looked through your upgrading list of the 5.7 and could use advice on what to get as my first 5 upgrade for performance. As I have had alot of conflicting information between videos and forums.Right now the list I have from you(that look to do a good upgrade) Cam,headers, pcm, intake tune I want to purchase on the lower side but I'm open to suggestions to really get the ball rolling. Thank you ahead of time! Thanks for all the videos!
Congrats on the new R/T! So much damn fun man. I would 1st upgrade those back tires ASAP - you're going to need that beast getting traction. The next thing is unlocking the PCM & loading up a 93 tune - that will give you a really nice bump in power. Check out Diablo i3 or t2 packages that include a PCM. From there - headers & intake manifold would be nice. Gets the hemi breathing better in & out. Cam would be the final touch & a nice bump in power. That's my thoughts - but you can mix/match as you see fit or what you budget for. Thank you for the support
Nice vid man. Have had my 2016 charger for a month now. Bought it used, and have just put on Flowmaster super 44's w/ reso delete, some visual upgrades, and now am looking at CAI's. Would love to possibly cam my car next year.
Nice - the 44''s sound great. I would skip the CAI & put that $$$ toward a tuner/unlocked PCM. That will net you some more performance. Thank you for the support
I really like what u do on ur rt but the question is how much horsepower u get after all that and if am not mistaken u did ( cam and intake and throttle body and headers and pcm and tune) ?
I contacted Greene yesterday, he recommended the 1.5 thump cam for roll racing which is what I mainly do, I'm a 300 fan boi. I have a 2014 300s 5.7 that I've have for a couple years now. It has basic mods. Now since I'm out of powertrain warranty I've decided to cam it with long tubes and a 392 intake. My car has 56k miles on it. Do you think its to high mileage to cam? It's my daily driver. So I expect to drive to around 100k with the cam. I drive 12k miles a year.
Make sure you walk away with a cam card if you buy any cam. That being said I think you'll be alright camming that Hemi. I've heard others doing it with much higher miles & older models. You will really enjoy having that extra power with the cam & headers! Let me know how it goes
Headers and exhaust are already really good on a 392. Intake, throttle body, E85 Kit, and a tune on a scat should easily bump you up to around 550 crank hp or better.
I need to see that charger of yours go up against a SS or GT! Performance wise . Can you make it happen? P.s been watching for a while love your channel RT all the way
Great video I like the way you broke it down. How fast is your car in the quarter mile? What is your tire set up on the street. Looking for a good combination for my 300 srt8 2012
I would say the 1/4 mile would be around 12 seconds at this point (Not official). I'm using Mickey Thompson ET Street R 305's with 18x10.5 rims. That SRT will be popping off the line like a boss with the same tires I have
I am looking to get a charger RT (between 2012-2016) once I get back from Iraq but I'll be doing most of the work myself is there any advice you could give before I dive head first into a 5.7?
Hey i know you've said you will eventually go with forced air but have you also considered the other things too like ported heads, bigger injectors, lightweight rods/lifters, forged internals, etc?
I might be one of the few that chose a 5.7 over a 6.4 regardless of if I could afford it. There are many many reasons why the 5.7 is just the better fit. Could be money, could be ground clearance needs, winter driving etc etc etc etc. the beauty of the 5.7 is what you explained. You get to have fun modding. Honestly if I had a 392 I probably would t touch it. What’s the fun in that right?
I'm right there with you. I don't think I would go past a mid muffler delete. Paying that kind of money per month i wouldn't want to mess with it. Same page as you brother
Much support. But I would just went with a salvage and rebuilt it. That’s what I did so far purchased a 17 model very minor side damage with 40k miles for $13,700 After rebuild and all that stuff just to get it ready for the road it came out to a total of 16k. Everything
Dude, your Cam cost is a steal. I got my quote to cam my Challenger R/T and it came back at over 5k. Did yours include the Valve springs, push rods, lifters, and phase limiter?
The package was about 2K for everything - springs, rods, lifter etc. You shouldn't pay anymore then 3K for everything - otherwise it's not worth it in my opinion.
Having a family of 6, I'm not in a position to build my V8 Mopar faster (which I would love to do) because I would have to pay more money upfront for mods and installation. Thats why I would rather just buy 392 and be fast out the box. I can handle a higher monthly payment instead and its more manageable for me. I could care less about interest. Its always a losing battle when you to finance anything typically (school loans, mortgage, etc.) And I'm not gonna place mods on a credit card just to go into debt lol. I've decided if I really want to be fast to then I need to invest in Hellcat and anything up on that level haha! Either way, No one should judge anyones build or money they chose to spend. Its all about the journey and experience. We all will get old and die one day...so lets enjoy the ride while we still can😋
I hear you. There will be a point where that 392 will need to get modded. No matter what car you end up in, it will get modded at some point. The difference is your just getting into a more expensive pond. I hope you land that 392 though - it's def been something I know you've wanted for a long time.
@@RTLife Eventually the power bug will take its bite on whatever car we have, that's just what happens to us car enthusiasts. So you are right...the crave will always be there. 😏 excited for the rear gear swap and torque converter, etc.! #keepitup
That's why I said there is more to consider when adding all this stuff up other then performance (HP/Torque). There are so many layers to discussing this topic - I guess it all comes down to the individual & how they prefer to spend their $$$.
What about the 6.1L also?? Or is the 392 the 6.1? I have a 4.6 4v 4cam Mustang Cobra Terminator that’s pillows I’ve been beating these SRT8s and modded up supercharged R/Ts, but a HellCat showed me what’s up.
The 392 is the 6.4 - typically if you see SRT8 is the older 6.1 hemi. Most 392's have a bee on it or 392 on it. Yah the hellcats are tough to beat with a skilled driver. Pretty impressive that Termi is still crushing people. Those damn things ruled the road in the 2000's - DOHC v8's. Keep on enjoying it man
R/T Life I’m wanting a hellcat bad! There a Red one on Craigslist for 43k is driving me crazy. Keep enjoying your nice card too! And the wife’s Jeep I seen on another mod vid. Thanks.
Dtownmuscle Call it,”Judgement". 😃
Well said.
Thank You Everyone for the support!!! You guys are awesome
What is this engine eventually going in?
Great content !!
Insurance is cheap on a 5.7.. and having fun building it is priceless..
Love my 5.7
Same page as you. Cost of ownership is great. Keep on enjoying that Hemi
I look at it this way. Buy and/or build and drive whatever you like. But when it's all said and done, there will always be someone out there faster than you.
100% agree with you!
I can say from first hand experience, modding the 5.7 is awesome if you don’t want the 392 insurance, just have to do research and make sure you go to a reputable shop. I now have a 392 swapped R/T Cammed and kept the same insurance.
That's such a badass build man! I love my insurance bill hahaha
Lmao damn nice! Good way to beat the system 😂
What if you get into a wreck and you dont have the stock engine in it would they still get that fixed
These 5.7L Hemi's are awesome - you will enjoy modding it further. Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it.
392 BABYYYYY!... They are giving these bad boys away!! Just got me a 19 for dirt cheap!
I hear you buddy - those 392's are great
My insurance on on a 19 went up from 160.00 to 220.00 a year.. not that bad in my opinion for that bad boy!!
@@americanbadass6498 Not for me - I priced it out again (4-5 months ago). Same damn price - I think I'm getting the lowest they will go.
Been watching your channel since you started. Love my 15 Rt and i love your build. You have helped me a lot in my route for performance mods. Thank you.
I really glad the videos have been helpful for your RT. Thank you for the support - I really appreciate it!
I want to do much more with my 5.7 Challenger thanks to you.
hahaha - you have yourself a couple of nice rides man! Thank you for the support
It was great how u broke down all mods and total cost of ownership! Good stuff. im gonna subscribe...
Thank you for the support - I really appreciate it.
You said it best at the end! Do what you can with your budget!
yah man, too many people stretching their budget for cars that they can't properly afford. This is a fun hobby if you don't kill your bank account.
MAN, YOU HAVE THE BEST CONTENT!!! I really appreciate you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much - I really appreciate the support! More to come
Great video and great detail!
I was so close to getting the 392 super bee too in yellow but the 8 speed in my challenger makes it feel like i have more power then i really do
Such a nice ride! I really like the history behind the Bee.
Congrats on the new Shaker! You will really enjoy having that beast. Once the modding begins the fun starts. Thank you for supporting the channel
Very honest op ed and you hit the ball out of the park!! Bit more on Jay Greene or Jannety racing many of us are interested in modding" BUT at a lesser degree financially. In other words the most BANG for the least amount of money without losing out on driving the car daily.
I get what you're saying. Modding without killing your budget! Thank you for the support
I chuckled a little you mention the quality of the shop but at 7:20 there's a guy rebuilding your engine with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. But you always put out good content though, you're channel was the reason I pulled the trigger on getting a hemi. 👌🏾
LOL - that wasn't meant to be a shot at him. He did a great job installing my Cam & manifold. That's funny though - thank you for the support
I want a sleeper for those Hellcat boys lol.
hahah I like your style! You will really enjoy hurting feelings in that 392. You have a hell of a starting point with that thing.
R/T Life will do. I’ll keep u posted.
I have a 2018 Artie and I absolutely love it I think it's so fast with the 8-speed transmission has to Napa Valley leather in it
8 speed was a nice add in 2015. Def a game changer!
Congrats on the new 392! Damn things are so much fun. Enjoy it man
Good insight my friend and I ended up getting a 2016 300S and I just ordered my manifold, throttle body, and and intake. On my way following your blueprint.
You will be really happy with performance gained after these mods
@@RTLife in your video you were talking about upgrading your rear end. Are you looking into a 392 rear end?
Great Video. At least you have learnt about your car and built yourself. It is not just about money as you say. Mine is an old 300c touring 2005. When I brought it last year had 218,000 miles but still runs great. It only cost £2000.00 I am going to mod the crap out of it starting next year
That's the best part, the amount you learn & make it yours is worth the journey! You will enjoy watching that Hemi slowly get faster
This is what I am talking about bro, rt killing the bees 🐝
A few upgrades & these 5.7L Hemi's can haul!
You will really enjoy the increased performance. A solid performance cam really wakes up these 5.7L Hemi's. Thank you for the support!
That's badass man! 500whp is a lot of fun to mess with hahaha. Keep on enjoying that Hemi
@@RTLife I am, next and final step is E85 with 12#s until I break something
Just bought a 2014 5.7 Hemi ram truck for 11,000 after trade in. Can't wait to start the modifications.
I’m glad you made this video. I have a 2017 300 Sport. And I was thinking of getting the 2020 charger but I think I’m gonna jus keep my luxury and mod it out. Great video my brotha
You will enjoy modding that 300 - such a nice combo of performance & style. Keep on enjoying it!
We should call you Mopar Molly Maid your just frighten cleaning up ..lol . I love it I what ever you just done is coming together must be the new tune that's optimizing all your mods.
yah that Jannetty Dyno tune really brought everything together! It's nice seeing all the mods helping. Thank you for the support
Loved this video, you’ve given the 5.7 more love then Mopar has in years. Keep up the greatness! 💯 Maybe forced air is in the near future 🤔🤔
Thank you very much - these 5.7L Hemi's are great. Happy to keep highlighting them & showing off their potential. I appreciate the support - oh & forced air is very likely :)
Good topic I just upgraded to a 2019 scatpack from a 2012 R/T very big difference in HP. Love your R/T. Enjoy hurting them feeling.
Nice, congrats on the new 392! Damn things are so much fun. Enjoy it & thank you for the support.
Great breakdown and comparison, at the time I bought my RT Challenger they didn’t have the scatpack, the srt8 was 17k more, granite it had more bells and whistles but that’s a lot of money, no regrets on my RT, love it, thank you 👍😁
yah that's a big price difference, I don't blame you. Keep on enjoying that Hemi! These things are so much fun
I agree with you 100% it's all about the fun and being a car guy thumbs up to you
I used to live in a wealthy town where many of the high school graduates in the football team all got brand new Trans Ams.
Can you make a tutorial on how to use a Diablo tuner?
What do you need to know about the diablo tuner - I likely have a video about it already.
R/T Life Everything lol, I never used/seen a tuner so I dont know anything about it
You created a nice Mod formula.. I think you should Mod a 5.7 up to a certain point . Anything after that is squeezing blood from a Turnip Until you enter Superchargers.
I believe this is right around the point where most would stop. Maybe add some non HP mods but this setup would make most happy.
R/T Life
I agree Your set up may be the best / Max without Supercharger Great Video. BTW
You will really enjoy the big performance bump! It really gets you moving. Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it.
Ive modded every car Ive ever owned. My Scatpack will be no different. Intake, exhaust, tires, and shorty headers already. Boost coming next year. Lifes too short to stay stock. Sick build.
I like that! Life is to short to be stock. 100% agree with you on that. That scat has some nice mods in place already, nicely done.
I really do appreciate it & keep on hurting feelings out there with that 5.7L!
very good thought out comparison. only thing you left out that I always struggle with is the resale value and the fact your car has a 8 speed and the scat had a 5. in the end if you sell it you'd recoup more with the scat, during the ownership the 8 speed and knowing you made it faster is probably the way I would go also....good video as always
yah resale is always better with a higher trim, def something to keep in mind if you don't hang onto cars for long.
@@RTLife I keep mine an average of 10 years. That's why I'm leaning towards an rt charger and watching your channel for ideas lol
My 14 R/T has 436 to the crank no cam yet either.. I'll be over 5 after my cam..
Total sleeper
Hell yah - let me know how it goes for you.
RikWCrlsn What has been done to your R/T
@Les Blackmond no
The real question is how does Dodge only get 370hp out the 5.7? It seems like such a big engine should get at least 400hp.
2019 Challenger RT 5.7 what would be first to do ?
rims/tires - than exhaust/tune. From there it's game on!
@@RTLife 24 or 26 inch rims? The bigger the rims the faster the car right ?😁
I'm on the fence with following this build, or just spending 9k and supercharging mine. What is your whp again?
Are you going to build up the bottom end or just plop a supercharger on & run 6-7 lbs?
I appreciate it man
R/T Life You’re welcome
Would it be have been better to put on a Edelbrock supercharger than all the mods?
Forced air is def a better bang for buck (over n/a).
Soon we will see RT LiFE owning a Stock Hellcat soon!!! 🤟🏽😈🤟🏽Your 5.7 is a BEAST bro!!!
*owning a sock Hellcat in a race I ment lol
Thanks man! I would get crushed by a hellcat but man it would be fun to see how it goes hahaha.
Love your channel definitely am learning a lot about the Hemi lifestyle and all of the Alleyways I can go about making my car faster but first I want to learn what I have my five seven 2018 RT Charger
These 5.7 chargers are so much damn fun! Thank you for supporting the channel - glad some of this is helpful or entertaining.
Do you have an exact part listing of all mods, or website that contains same?
Love your mods and videos.
I don't have an exact parts list - would have to gather that up down the road. Thank you for the support!
@@RTLife I have a 2017 Chrysler 300 and would love to do exactly what you have on the RT.
That's insane - If my insurance was that low I would want a hellcat lol! That's such a great rate
@@RTLife Yeah, I'm using American Family and have 2 other vehicles on the plan.
My wife and I are both on all 3 vehicles.
Anyways. Yep.
You never got back to me... What number gears should I get on the differential so it can run faster...
Well it sounds like you want to get 700+hp so I would stick with lower gearing 3.09 or hellcat 2.62.
Alright I'm convinced now I'm modding!
You will enjoy watching that slowly grow!
I’ve modded my R/T already and I’m making 500+hp, ive done LTs, catless mids, E85 and 150 shot
Man I love this car🔥 #HEMI4Life
Damn!! Nicely done man. Keep on enjoying that beast.
R/T Life these mods have really made this thing move💪🏽
ChillonJayyy only 500hp with a 150 shot?
Kgboxer5.7 510 to be exact but 665ft-lbs of torque..surprised the hell outta me
As I have had alot of conflicting information between videos and forums.Right now the list I have from you(that look to do a good upgrade)
Cam,headers,pcm,intake tune
I want to purchase on the lower side but I'm open to suggestions to really get the ball rolling.
@@RTLife Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to update and I look forward to your future videos! R/T FOR LIFE!
Just got an 18 R/T and would like to do it literally the exact same as yours if I had a list and steps
I'm new to mopar I was A gm guy and I know what cams to go with on the ls Motors
@@RTLife when you say tuner, do you mean something like the Diablo? Or a Dyno tune?
Yes
Diablo tuner. Once you have a solid amount of mods (cam, headers etc.) then a dyno tune will be needed.
@@RTLife I need to do some research on them. Not quite sure what they do. Have heard they make airbag and or check engine lights come on though
I really like what u do on ur rt but the question is how much horsepower u get after all that and if am not mistaken u did ( cam and intake and throttle body and headers and pcm and tune) ?
Great vid.!!. may I ask where you got the trim for your splitter?
My buddy @ScatpackDemon on IG gave it to me. Not sure where he picked it up from
You gotta pay to play... these are big boy/girl toys. You can only go as far as your pockets can take you. Cha-ching! Great vid bro!
so true man - money dumped into anything will make it fast! Thank you for the support - def learning a ton
Awesome vid🙌🏽 can’t wait to start modding my RT
You will really enjoy modding that Hemi! It's a lot of fun
Headers and exhaust are already really good on a 392. Intake, throttle body, E85 Kit, and a tune on a scat should easily bump you up to around 550 crank hp or better.
Oh yah def - those mods will have that 392 easily in mid 11's
I need to see that charger of yours go up against a SS or GT! Performance wise . Can you make it happen? P.s been watching for a while love your channel RT all the way
I will keep my eyes peeled for some SS & GT's. it would be interesting to see who it plays out. Thank you for the support!
That would be cool ! You’ll do some damage left and right best of luck brotha 👍🏽
@Delirious H2O Walk? I don't think so. SS w/ 10 speed is around 12.4 range. Drivers race
@Delirious H2O I think the GT puts up 12 flat so that would likely win, or at least has the edge.
That SRT will be popping off the line like a boss with the same tires I have
I am looking to get a charger RT (between 2012-2016) once I get back from Iraq but I'll be doing most of the work myself is there any advice you could give before I dive head first into a 5.7?
try & get an 15-16 RT Road & Track. Has the 8 speed & higher 3.07 gearing. Makes a difference
@@RTLife thanks I'll have to look out for one when shopping 😁
Great stuff as always!!! Thanks for sharing.
Learning a ton along the way. I appreciate the support!
Hey i know you've said you will eventually go with forced air but have you also considered the other things too like ported heads, bigger injectors, lightweight rods/lifters, forged internals, etc?
I have something already in the works - it's going to be a big change for the channel.
What are your thoughts on the Edelbrock Victor Manifold? Think it would be a better intake with boost or just with your setup?
I would rather get the 6.1 - similar manifold for less $$$. Yes it's better if you end up doing a procharger type setup.
Much support. But I would just went with a salvage and rebuilt it. That’s what I did so far purchased a 17 model very minor side damage with 40k miles for $13,700
After rebuild and all that stuff just to get it ready for the road it came out to a total of 16k.
@@RTLife can you send me a link of your kit man?
That opening logo I want that on my car 💯💯💯👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Mane...u broke them numbers down to a science 💯 yo rt done came a long way in a year
Thank you! Def learning a ton along the way. These mopars are great. I really appreciate the support.
#keepitup
What about the better brakes and suspension that come with the 392?
Thanks.
Stock RT with Supercharger vs RT Life Charger would be a great comparison. Hard to find boosted 5.7's these days...
I would def want to see how that plays out!
not hard to find in Seattle. I'm in a modern Mopar club and we have several boosted 5.7's
Need to find a 2013 srt to run
I would be interested to see how that plays out
