In NC, I can do anything to the motor, intake or exhaust. The law only says you have to have a muffler and cats. None of that ref crap you have to put up with. I had to deal with CHP when I drove out there. I had lights on my mirrors that were legal. We had amder in the front and red on the backside. They was put on to help keep my mirrors from getting knocked off at a dark loading dock at one of the cold storage. Because he didn't like them, he told me I had to take them off. I asked several times what was illegal about them, and he would never tell me. The told me to get them off or I would be placed Out of Service. I could never live in that state. I can't understand how people keep voting in all the people that keep passing those anti-american laws.

Id say invest in property in Texas, Id say El Paso or Dallas/Fort Worth. It could be a real cheap beat up house, register all your cars in Texas and bring it back in California, if you ever get pulled over you can just say you’re visiting, you don’t have to tell them how long. Only down side is that registration is once a year and you have to get your car inspected so you’d have to bring you car to texas once a year UNLESS you have a buddy or someone you’re close with that inspects cars and “cough cough” could inspect it with you being in California still which would save you a trip to Texas.

The Ref will be looking for the SAE30R9 designation on the hoses. Usually printed on the Hose. Compare the old ones to the ones from COBB and make sure they say the same thing.

In the 90s and early 2000s I had this same problem with CVPD. I would get pulled over weekly. They would give me the same tickets over and over. It was harassment. I eventually stopped using my car. The only way to avoid all of this was to eventually move away. After moving out if CV I never get pulled over by police.

do not be afraid to ask the ref some questions when you get inspected. Take that downpipe with the cat and see if you can get a CARB approved high flow cat and have it installed. usually anything behind the cat is personal taste as long as it does not exceed the decibel laws.
If you live in California, you know how this works. One cannot fully commit to modding. It has to be done with respect to what's obviously noticeable under the hood or below. Anything in between, well, that depends on how not so obvious it is.

Don’t put stickers on your car that show your mods. Just keep it nice but also close to stock looking as possible. I live in central california and have never had issues like this and have owned a 5.0 mustang civic si hatch and currently a wrx 2022 all with cold air intakes and other mods
All you need performance wise for a daily STI in just an exhaust. Keep your wheels and everything else suspension. You’ll be good.. and just get 50% tint.. less noticeable. Enjoy the STI. It’s still amazing stock.(with an exhaust)
I was state reffed too. My bail ticket was $400 but they’d be able to see i paid it off instead of reffing it. Went back to stock and passed inspection. Now back to fbo with a valved exhaust
Rent a P.O. box in another state. Then register the car to that state via your new mailing address. I'd like to think a cop wouldn't state ref a car from Montana. Then again I don't live in, nor have I ever been to Cali. Peace and love!
You could possibly ask for a court date to see the judge to get reimbursed for the ticket because what is the point of paying them and still having to go back to stock? You have to tell the judge it cost you a lot of money to go back to stock

The louder and flashier it is the more the cops will be checking for you because they have nothing better to do 💀 it sucks but most of the time it’s better to just comply than to be getting constantly slapped with $400+ tickets. If his car looked stock on the outside he probably would have little to no problems

I feel like the exterior of a modified car is a huge reason a car gets pulled over. The bright colors and obvious stance vs a car that looks simpler on the outside. I’ve never been pulled over but if I do, I’d get state reffed for sure for mods. I just keep my car low profile outside

You gotta find someone in a different state(Oregon) and register the car there, in a county outside the city so you don’t have to go through emissions testing, and boom you can go get your tags for you car and drive with all your modifications!!

Happened to me. I bought my Evo 9 while stationed in Washington and moved back home to Cali. Went through inspection and they laughed at me. Long story short, I went from 450hp back to stock. I even had to remove my JDM rear bumper and install the ugly Usd. I sold it while it was stock and took my 18k to the bank. F it
Before I left San Diego in late 2021, I ran ModsApart Garage putting people back to stock. My WRX was & is FBO 428HP & I NEVER GOT PULLED. But I left for this exact reason. The number of people coming for mod removal was insane and I knew it was time to dip. I'm still Modded & 2 years later I've never been pulled over in my Subie. Texas is cool AF but weirdly enough there's only 3 VA chassis in Fort Worth area with mods. Come one come all. It's a better life. The Beaches stink anyways. Meets here are insane and Subies are rare AF, and demand Mucho Respecto. ✌️
all states have requirements on cars such as in michigan they have a height on cars low or high they also say all parts of the car has to be DOT approved meaning they have to be stock and they can impound the vehicle and it would have to be turned completely back to stock before it leaves the impound lot and I learned that from experience and it is expensive to redo everything

I wanted to fully modify my impreza but when I looked up the laws the only way to legally modify a car is if the parts CARB certified so I didn’t bother
I live in San Diego for the last 5 year. but I have 2 of my cars down here still registered in Washington State. I still have “residency” in Washington as well. Illegal but fuck it. Haven’t ran into any problems.
If you sell those parts you can pick up that nexgen stage 2 kit. Carb legal- intake, Inlet, injectors, rails, lines, pressure regulator, fuel pump, catback that’s around 92-94 db. It’s pricey but legit, add a Cobb Bpv and new top mount with a good tune it will net you 330whp on 91.
I live in Las Vegas they don’t really mess with us here I have the same gray edition by the way beautiful car my wife is trying to move us to Colorado where it looks like they’re trying to do the same thing up there. What a shame this country is not doing well and this is a microcosm example of that.

Rent a P.O. box in another state. Then register the car to that state via your new mailing address. I'd like to think a cop wouldn't state ref a car from Montana. Then again I don't live in, nor have I ever been to Cali. Peace and love!
You could possibly ask for a court date to see the judge to get reimbursed for the ticket because what is the point of paying them and still having to go back to stock? You have to tell the judge it cost you a lot of money to go back to stock

I just added a straight pipe and cut the cats on my cammed 5.3 it’s pushing about 380 hp right now but I’ve driven by many cops I’m my area in California and no pull over in my town a lot of modded trucks and maybe that’s why they don’t care in my area maybe it just depends on the area in California man I heard that LA area is the worst spot for car enthusiasts in California

It’s a lot worse in the southern parts of CA than everywhere else. Especially if you have an obviously modded car. The louder and flashier it is the more the cops will be checking for you because they have nothing better to do 💀 it sucks but most of the time it’s better to just comply than to be getting constantly slapped with $400+ tickets. For Chris it’s most likely the fact that he has a YT channel and is driving around with super dark front windshield tint with a bright wrap. If his car looked stock on the outside he probably would have little to no problems

I feel like the exterior of a modified car is a huge reason a car gets pulled over. The bright colors and obvious stance vs a car that looks simpler on the outside. I’ve never been pulled over but if I do, I’d get state reffed for sure for mods. I just keep my car low profile outside

Like my car has catless headers, loud exhaust and other bolt ons that aren’t California legal at all but my lower profile look has never attracted cops for the last 2 and a half years despite racing and doing other illegal activities with my car. You gotta find someone in a different state(Oregon) and register the car there, in a county outside the city so you don’t have to go through emissions testing, and boom you can go get your tags for you car and drive with all your modifications!!
the problem will be why is his car registered out of state with a california license they will hit you with tax evasion i have looked into this before the work around is honestly very annoying and lengthy to where its almost not worth it

The car would be registered somewhere else where emissions is not a problem and if he had out of state plates he be less likely to get pulled over in the first place and the car would just be “visiting” in California, trust me it’s definitely doable.
That’s why it’s difficult for me to find a perfect place to call yet, because every state has rules that’ll kill your vibe if it’s just not for you. Cali was a dream once upon a time now it’s like going to that relatives you know you can’t get too comfortable because of so many unnecessary rules.

Happened to me. I bought my Evo 9 while stationed in Washington and moved back home to Cali. Went through inspection and they laughed at me. Long story short, I went from 450hp back to stock. I even had to remove my JDM rear bumper and install the ugly Usd.

Before I left San Diego in late 2021, I ran ModsApart Garage putting people back to stock. My WRX was & is FBO 428HP & I NEVER GOT PULLED.
But I left for this exact reason. The number of people coming for mod removal was insane and I knew it was time to dip. I'm still Modded & 2 years later I've never been pulled over in my Subie. Texas is cool AF but weirdly enough there's only 3 VA chassis in Fort Worth area with mods. Come one come all. It's a better life. The Beaches stink anyways. Meets here are insane and Subies are rare AF, and demand Mucho Respecto. ✌️

all states have requirements on cars such as in michigan they have a height on cars low or high they also say all parts of the car has to be DOT approved meaning they have to be stock and they can impound the vehicle and it would have to be turned completely back to stock before it leaves the impound lot and I learned that from experience and it is expensive to redo everything

Well a window banner is a dumb thing to put on in my opinion especially in CA. It’s pretty much the same thing as having tint on the windshield. You put a big target on you. That wing ain’t doing any favors for u too😂

If you sell those parts you can pick up that nexgen stage 2 kit. Carb legal- intake, Inlet, injectors, rails, lines, pressure regulator, fuel pump, catback that’s around 92-94 db. It’s pricey but legit, add a Cobb Bpv and new top mount with a good tune it will net you 330whp on 91.
