All the things you suggested are good upgrades. With a simple diablo tune I cut a second off of my 0- 60. It didn't gain much power. But, the behavior of the vehicle changed. Throttle response, shift points, No MDS. It was like a different car. I agree with the "BIG HORSES".
No hate but when you said it’s not a scatpack it’s kinda funny because the RT in my opinion is better in every aspect especially when compared to cost and difficulty compared to trying to build a 6.4 the 5.7 and scatpack have almost the same road time 😂 my RT has been neck and neck with the 392 srt package and Ive beat a scatpack but to each is own I got the RT because it was cheaper and heard it was better to build then the 6.4
FYI, all the RT models from 2017 and above come with active exhaust valves and 2,75 inches pipes from the factory I own 2017 and comes with above-mentioned
I am pretty sure the transmission and drive shaft are the same as the 392. The elephant in the room is the 3.09 gears. Quicker off the line for sure and a direct swap. Pedal commander is an illusion, adds no hp or tq. Completely skipped over the srt exhaust manifolds which you might as well get if you're switching to their exhaust but remember we do now have the larger active exhaust. Shorty headers, meh as well but better than the factory logs. Better research next time X.
I wana get 3.09 gears then a scat pack intake manifold then longtubes and a tune with a cold air intake and a pedal commander that's it lol I already got exhaust work done
Keep in mind with the 6.4 manifold you cant just switch them out .. not that simply.. thats why I didn't suggest it. You need to window switch because of the SRV system in that intake. Its a bit cumbersome
My build, which topped out at 12.6 in the 1/4, remove the suitcase muffler, swap the cats to high flow, change to shorty headers, k&n air filter or even better a cold air intake (i added a pipe that feeds from one of the holes for the fog lights for cool air on the stock airbox). Also, you want a canned tune. Get you a nice one, mine is superchips (vivid linq) and I can change settings when I want to but I've heard Diablo is better. Also, of COURSE you'll feel it...30 horsepower is 10%. Thats significant!
I went to the dealership looking for a 5.7 challenger but they didn’t have one in a widebody. I ended up buying the Scat, 6.4, Pitch Black, Widebody, standard trans. It’s got awesome power and looks cool as hell. I changed tires because this car has so much torque/power I was loosing traction and spinning out.
R/T is a perfect daily. The scat is fun, but it’s a car length faster to 120 and insurance, small tires, and weight make it cost race car price and too heavy to compete with most other quick cars. Rt sounds great, you can floor it at will, and it’s just fun.
I have a 2009 R/T challenger and I’m not looking to go crazy bc it’s my everyday driver, but I appreciate videos like this giving me a little insight on where to start
I just picked up a '11 Challenger R/T Classic. It had K&N intake and Borla exhaust on it already. It literally just roasts the 245/45 tires. Even if I just roll into it gently and then go WOT at 25 MPH it'll still end up just blowing the tires off. With a few more mods I don't see how a guy would want anything more for the street. I guess I need wider tires first! I like that this car has the NAG1 trans...bulletproof and much easier to service and maintain!
Yeah, you're right about the cost of the super charger. I would always see them advertise it for 5-6k but when I called in it was more like 10k... Honestly I was like it's not worth it...Glad I didn't go with that, because a few months after considering getting the supercharger I was involved in a really bad car accident and my car was totaled...That would have been a big wasted, but now I've been blessed with a Scatpack.

I recently found a 2019 R/T in F8 green at a dealership just north of where I live. Depending on cost if insurance, and if it’s still in the lot by the time I go out to buy a car, I might go for it since it costs slightly less than a new 2022 GT. I was originally gonna go for an SXT, but if I can get more of my money’s worth with the R/T, I’ll go for it!
@@jaredgonzalez8421 I ended up going for a 2021 GT that was available in the same color. That RT was sold months ago. Regardless, I've had it for over a month now and I Love it!
Picked up a 2018 R/T fully loaded a few days ago and I love it! Its going to be my daily driver/picking my kid up from school car and Its got everything I could need. The previous owner installed an X pipe and Axle back and she gets rowdy when you get on the pedal. I have future hopes of being able to afford a hellcat redeye one day but dont get me wrong the 5.7 aint no slouch shes got plenty of Go Go Juice! I look forward to watching your videos every time you post as they help me learn more about these cars.
I love my R/T. Had it for 2 years and still think it’s just as badass as when I drove it off the lot. It just feels like a waste of money to mod these cars tho as approx $4,300 for 30-35 hp gain?? A scat is abt 6-8k more than an R/T usually and makes 110 more hp and roughly 80 more torque. It makes more sense to get one of them if u really care abt being “fast” at the end of the day.
I have a lifted 2020 Bighorn and made an inquiry with a shop I deal with wanting to add some more power. Guy says sure, but what do u want? I said I like the power, but I want more responsiveness when I get on it. He said ok cool, let me order a Peddle Commander and tell me what you think. The highest setting is Sport Plus +4. Just to be safe I set it much lower to the next setting which Sport +3. There is Eco, City, Sport and Sport Plus and each mode has several numerical settings. I make a right turn and the rear wheels spun. I get out on the stretch and I immediately pulled over set it to Sport -1 and had to reset my shocks to make it more stiff because thats how much more response I was getting. Mind you I wasnt even in Sport Plus mode. Im happy with what I have and it only cost me $300 plus install. At the end of the day its that instant response we want in our vehicles same as electric cars. From the hwy to the street, I barely touch the peddle and Im gone gone.
A lot of folks go berserk for add-ons. I buy the car I like and leave it alone. The one thing I don't need is a voided warranty. It's bad enough to buy premium gas. My daily is a Kia Rio. Fun times begin on the weekend when it ain't snowing.
R/Ts are so fun for everyday driving. Mines is currently cammed with longtubes, catback, 180 thermostat and a 85mm throttle body and it runs great! Currently waiting on my final tune so I can run with some of these stock Scatpacks for the first time.
@@jaredharris1225 im currently running a Comp Cam “270” cam. Specs are 222/230, so big enough to run decent power from the mid-high rpm range, but not big enough where a higher stall converter is needed. I’ve beat stock and slighty modded scats frequently if they’re running pump gas, but if they’re running 🌽, they may beat me on the top end, depending on their set up
Had a 2020 Charger R/T. Bone stock and it was a great daily driver. Only thing I didn’t like was cylinder deactivation. Only way I found to eliminate was aftermarket tune. Even took it back to dealership and tech said he couldn’t turn it off.
Been watching you, TallGuy, HemiLife44, and Rell 2 Real for a year and really appreciate your content. Modding the hell outta my 2019 Charger R/T Plus! Hellcat or Redeye soon!
Get the Demon Tuner and run the car anyway you want. Write down the settings for your restrictive factory tune. Drive it however you want too with impunity. When and if you need a major repair that your warranty will cover plug that Demon Chip Tuner device in and re-tune to factory settings. You will be good to go.
There is a insurance mark up between a RT and a Scatpak in NJ, so spending another 2-4k or more modding a RT would be the better option if you want full coverage in NJ.
Plus the mods are usually over time not one day. These dudes kill me saying just get the scat knowing they live with they moms and down south where I can buy they house with a year salary.
I’ve had many RT’s ( dad is a district MGR for dodge so it was a family company car) when you get a 392 you will neeeeeeeeever want a 5.7 RT ever agaaaaaaain !!
My first car out of high school was a 98 Honda Civic had that for 2 years then bought a used 2013 rt challenger. In the next couple of weeks I’m gonna be upgrading either to a used srt or a newer scat pack. I honestly feel like the R/t was a great middle phase car for me it had a ton more hp and torque than my old Honda but not to much where my 20 year old self couldn’t handle it. I’m 23 now and I feel ready and more experienced to move up a trim but I have must say I don’t regret getting the rt I’m planning on keeping it even when I get a new car and it was a great building block for me.
I got a 2007 Dodge charger had it for 7 years $152,000 mi runs good all tht time only change the water pump and the brakes and the tires and the radiator
Thank you RacerX for the RT Love! I went the route of upgrading my 2012 Challenger RT with a larger 2.75" exhaust by installing a manifold and high-flow cats from a 6.1L and then Corsa Extremes! This did require a custom tune because of the O2 sensors were in a different location than stock. Between the custom exhaust and tune, there was a very noticeable improvement.
Apparently the standard 80mm throtlebody on those cars actually flows more than enough cfm to feed the engine .. thus the engine wont outflow the TB so you wont gain power unfortunately
@@RacerX9 Interesting, the car had over 100k miles when I bought it so I wonder if the Cats were plugged up and replacing them with the higher flow restored lost power. lol. Oh, and I did install a 180-degree thermostat and tuned it to run higher octane fuel which probably contributed to the gains. I am on the fence about whether to upgrade the CAM or leave it as is for drivability reasons...
What about the Scat Pack Program Stages from the factory? They're out there! In Direct Connection from Dodge/Chrysler! I have a Scat Pack Stage 1 on my 2015 R/T Challenger, from the Dealership! I intend to obtain Stage 2, and Stage 3, down the road! All put in by the factory/Dealership, and fully warranted!
The rams make 30 more hp and they just have different intake manifold and tuning. I’ve seen 6.4 cam as a popular light upgrade and that you don’t really need a tune necessarily but that it’ll help more of course.
I love my R/T+. Not sure what's up w my exhaust, but I've had other Moprs owners w higher models ask me about it. It sou ds like a Scat or a more expensive model. It's a blast to drive.

I have a 2021 scat pack, it came with the 245 tires, what is your opinion of installing the 275/40rz20 tires just in the rear or all four corners, I intend to do an occasional autocross and want more a road race car rather than a dragstrip car. Years ago on my 70 camaro z28 I put wider tires on the rear only and this car. would literally 4 wheel drift under power. The thing that is a problem with wider rear tires is rotating the tires. I respect your opinion. Just for reference, I am 74 years old. My other road car is 89 IROC Z.
No tune required for a 160 degree stat feels strong even on a hot day, I have the hell cat lower and the scat pack headers made it really fun to drive best mod yet. 😎👍

I plan on getting a RT personally. Here with in a year or two. The only reason I picked a RT over the SCAT is insurance. An the 6.4 has issues when adding boost to them out of the gate. No hate but when you said it’s not a scatpack it’s kinda funny because the RT in my opinion is better in every aspect especially when compared to cost and difficulty compared to trying to build a 6.4 the 5.7 and scatpack have almost the same road time 😂 my RT has been neck and neck with the 392 srt package and Ive beat a scatpack but to each is own I got the RT because it was cheaper and heard it was better to build then the 6.4
I’ve never seen an RT beat a 392. RT can’t even outrun a red sport or Elantra N
FYI, all the RT models from 2017 and above come with active exhaust valves and 2,75 inches pipes from the factory
I own 2017 and comes with above-mentioned
I had a 2017RT as well and i can confirm this
Yep and I just missed it with my late 2016 R/T. Still fun to drive tho.
I thought that too but racer x said 2.5 and I have 2019 Daytona rt... is mine 2.75 or 2.5?
@@ChasoBaby it's for sure 2.75.
Just got my RT this week, best driving experience I've ever had
I use my RT as a daily driver and I love it.
Just got my first Dodge. A 2012 Challenger R/T plus. I cant wait to start adding mods!
Same 2012 challenger rt plus with 33k miles ! Hope you enjoying it as much as me brother
@@kwabinaquauinoo4668 carvana never delivered it. I'm just gonna get a new one from a dealer I can actually see. Lol
I wana get 3.09 gears then a scat pack intake manifold then longtubes and a tune with a cold air intake and a pedal commander that's it lol I already got exhaust work done
Get more power with that than his ideas
I have a 2009 R/T challenger and I’m not looking to go crazy bc it’s my everyday driver, but I appreciate videos like this giving me a little insight on where to start
just drove an RT for the first time the other day such a great car want one so bad lol
I certainly is
I test drove a 21 r/t Daytona last weekend and loved it, might be a new addition here soon
I love my rt. Perfectly daily
Update: I bought a 2020 Daytona r/t frostbite today had to travel 5 hours to get it but definitely worth it

There’s nothing wrong with the Charger, Challenger, or Durango R/T. And our 2013 Charger R/T Plus rode GREAT!
I agree Rollin
I just picked up a '11 Challenger R/T Classic. It had K&N intake and Borla exhaust on it already. It literally just roasts the 245/45 tires. Even if I just roll into it gently and then go WOT at 25 MPH it'll still end up just blowing the tires off. With a few more mods I don't see how a guy would want anything more for the street. I guess I need wider tires first! I like that this car has the NAG1 trans...bulletproof and much easier to service and maintain!
I have a 14 Challenger R/T auto and put 285/35 on the rear. She will still smoke them off if you want but much better hook up!
John 3:3-Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Did u buy it ???
The only TH-camr I know that would tell you straight up that you can't cut corners. 💯💯
Thanks brother.. much appreciated
R/T's are solid! Sounds amazing too! Thanks for another great video!

If you want a powerful daily driver without worrying too much about gas money this is it. I have a 2019 charger rt and i love it

R/Ts are so fun for everyday driving. Mines is currently cammed with longtubes, catback, 180 thermostat and a 85mm throttle body and it runs great! Currently waiting on my final tune so I can run with some of these stock Scatpacks for the first time.

How much is average on the insurance on the Scats? Do yall know?
I have a 19 RT Durango now and I would love to upgrade to a 392. Thanks for the info racer x!
Intake,cam, lifters, header and tune
If I got an rt I would do the stage 1 through 3 upgrades on the 5.7L should put it at around 425hp
Nice to see that dealership put a car inside on the showroom floor with all those water spots and dust all up in the engine bay. Classy 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

The rams make 30 more hp and they just have different intake manifold and tuning.
I’ve seen 6.4 cam as a popular light upgrade and that you don’t really need a tune necessarily but that it’ll help more of course.

I have a 2021 scat pack, it came with the 245 tires, what is your opinion of installing the 275/40rz20 tires just in the rear or all four corners, I intend to do an occasional autocross and want more a road race car rather than a dragstrip car.
