From one Midwestern gal to another - I love the work you and your husband are doing to keep his family’s heritage alive for the next generations. Your videos are simply addictive for this Anglophile. ❤️
Luke, would you give us a show telling us about growing up with Mapperton? You can show your childhood room and your chores and duties on grounds and inside.
Goodness, several things: 1) I was absolutely gobsmacked by how perfectly squared those hedges were around your croquet lawn!! Kudos to the guy with the measuring stick...whoever he may be! 2) Thank you for highlighting Beaufort & Blake. I've checked out their website and must say I love their offerings. My four adult children will all find something from B&B under their Christmas trees this year! PS: I probably will, too. 3) I was totally blown away by the little sunroom off your chapel bedroom. The minute you opened that door, I was in love! Quite small for a bathroom, but the view makes it totally amazing! Luke, while you might think frosted windows are important, please remember we're not all shy. Having said that, no, I totally would not share a bathroom. I'm jiggy with sharing with family members, but total strangers are a no-no. Diseases and all that stuff. 4) Luke, I worry about you. I've noticed your pants pockets are always full. Do you know that over the years all that weight can take a toll on your hips/back? I think I've been watching you too long, as I'm beginning to feel like the Great Aunt Martha you always feel duty-bound to invite.
I’ve stayed in B&B’s in New England where you typically had both options (shared bathroom or en suite). The prices would be noticeably different depending on this. Most people would want it to be in the same corridor/ relatively nearby. I have to add, while sharing was fine in my early 20s, now in my 30s I wouldn’t book without my own bathroom.
I have read that some estates used sheep to keep grass short. They’d just move them off the lawn to a pasture afterward. I’d guess the youngest gardeners then had to pick up what the sheep left behind.
If the poo is not picked up and a mobile chicken coop follows the flies that come to the poo lends to great food for the chickens. See Seven Sons, YT channel. Remaking poo once dry can be raked into the lawn as fertilizer.
If I came to your home, I would be thankful for what I receive. If I need to "paddle down the hall" I would count myself lucky in such a historical home. m
In an older home I wouldn't really expect an ensuite bathroom. A shared one down the hall would be fine (similar to older hotels I've stayed at in London).
I like the laundry hamper too💗I have been to yoga retreats where you can bunk in rooms and there is a large shared bathroom💗 when l was younger that wasn’t a problem at all. Now that l’m older A private room with an ensuite is more appealing, and I wouldn’t mind if it occupied one other person, like a friend and we came together and shared the room. You could have several options of room types and costs.
If you find the Coachhouse can’t keep up with all the people at your event, you can always invite a local food truck. Or you could even host a food truck festival at Mapperton. They are becoming quite popular in Canada.
I have stayed in England and Wales at several manor houses where there were two or three rooms close to a bath in the hall. Only the most expensive Suites had its own bathroom
Since seeing you on TheNewbys Ive been binge watching on both your channels...I'm addicted; Luke will be happy to know I've subscribed and not just watching! I love your complicity as a couple, your playful yet beautiful integration of the two cultures, your intelligence, eloquence and the beauty of spirit you both have. Your hard work and dedication is beyond impressive. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
Beaufort and Blake should do a product photo shoot at Mapperton, either for print or digital media. It would be a great co-branding opportunity for both parties! Great video, so glad the SCPF was a smashing success! Much love from CT, USA!
Hello from an American in Switzerland! If I came for the yoga retreat, a private bathroom would be lovely, but I would also share or use an outhouse. No problem. The English countryside is beautiful in any form. I Love all your creative projects and videos, which are such an important part of British history. I too, have links to Britain in my family's past and hope to visit Dorset and your amazing estate one day in the not too distant future. 💕❤ to all at Mapperton.🌺
Julie just a lovely vlog . So happy your plans for Mapperton is going well. The crowds are huge and I hope it will keep growing in years to come. All of the people at Mapperton do a fantastic job. Well done guys. 👏🏻
Luke is so funny! I love his humor. I’m from Michigan and as an American an en-suite is nice, But……your manor is old and historical and no en-suite should be expected. Love your TH-cam shows!
WHat a wonderful idea! What a wonderful fair! Its fantastic how hard you work to keep the estate alive, repaired, and very active in modern life. Well done! Well done! You and Luke are the consumate hosts! So fun to watch! I'm in love! Are you going to start a Mapperton or Devon Fiddlers Contest soon?
Glad to see you’re John Deere users ! My son-in-law is a Store and Sales Manager at a large John Deere dealership, as well as operating a 1500 acre cash crop farming business. John Deere rules ! 😁
Julie, everything about you, Luke, Mapperton and crew, warms my heart and soul; brings such joy. I would absolutely come live and work there, doing anything for you/Mapperton, for FREE...room and board provided, of course☺️ What a privilege! My love of all things British is no secret. Though I loved living in Norway, England holds my heart. We here are so honored to be included in all things Mapperton. Your cancelled TV show was actually a blessing for us all💕👍🤗
A bedroom with its own bathroom is convenient but I'd be willing to share a bathroom with someone else. I love the bed! Beautiful ❤️ Julie, I'm with you! I love the clothes hamper also! I also love the white chair!
Wouldn't expect a private bath but 67 need one close by hot flashes need a short distance to get to a Toilet! But honestly it's seems crazy that you would try to have on suite for each bedroom that's the excitement staying in a historic estate ! The challenges that families experienced back in the day lol .Congratulations on your event too cold still in southern ontario canada to do outside events colder then normal and lots of rain !
You might want a “classic” tub but one of the issues with them is that if you step wrong, they can tip… don’t ask me how I know :-) It’s clear I’m going to have to learn yoga to justify a trip to Mapperton, perhaps in a year or two. I’m 61 and while a private bath would be nice, sharing with another person is ok too. Glad your plant fair was such a success and yes, invest in another coffee maker for the cafe! Best to you all from Austin, TX.
An en-suite is an acceptable standard. I renovated an old fort and the en-suites were what sold the rooms. We found stand-alone showers that could go directly on the wood floors.
I'm so glad the the event was such a great success!! Your home, gardens and land are simply gorgeous, I was surprised to hear Luke say it's 15 acres, it seems much bigger than that!!
I have been watching your vlog fora while and now found the answers to few questions, being from Scotland I have met and know the Douglas Montagu Scott family - Dukes of Buccleuch and Marquises of Queensberry. So the connection goes back to a daughter of the first Earl of Sandwich. Maybe one day you can do a Scottish road trip unfortunately I live in Turkey but happy memories of my homeland!
Private bathroom would be nice but I also have stayed in lovely places where I shared one. And if the only option at this house was to use the outhouse, no problem with that either. I'm sure that there are some vintage chamber pots that you can find in your attic. Haha.
Thank you for sharing "the latest" on what is going on at Mapperton. Feels like I just had a "personal visit"! Would love to visit one day. Nice to see Nestor again and hope he will soon "host" another episode!
I wouldn't mind sharing with one other person, but frankly at age 65+, morethan that --- no. LOL! I'm happy your event was a big success! How about an armorie???? Chest of drawers?? That room with all the windows would make a lovely bathroom.
The bedrooms are so nice and the new bath will be like a Queen’s bath. So glad the garden show was successful. Mapperton is so beautiful with lawns and only a few gardeners. Very good at their jobs. Luke has big plans, can’t wait. Nice vlog Julie. Fingers crossed for your yoga retreats.😊👋🏼
😮Yes indeed. A bath/shower, sink and toilet (all together in one room), for every bedroom preferably en suite. Especially for the lucrative American trade.
Thankyou for sharing 💗 everything was very interesting ..i liked the lawn mowing part and coulnt help to notice how neat everything was. Will there be a Spring or Summer tour of the gardens? Mapperton gardens has the most lovely roses.
Excited about the rewilding project. I am crossing my fingers for possible photography retreats in the future. Would love to visit when next in the UK.
In the early 1980's my sister and her husband moved from the Chicagoland area up into rural central Wisconsin. Her home had a bathroom and an out house. Their church had a 3 hole outhouse until the late 1990's!!
A bit of trivia while reading the eulogy of Peter Bowles of ‘To The Manor Born’ fame with the wonderful Penelope Keith - his father was a valet to Drogo Montague, son of the Earl of Sandwich. Julie was that the 9th Earl and Alberta Sturges? Life imitates art in a weird reverted sort of way.
So nice to see this successful event. Regarding the bathroom question, answering the call of nature outdoors seems most undesirable when considering the cold, rain and dark. More bathrooms, 👍
If I were lucky enough to be able to stay at a beautiful home like Mapperton, because of its age, I would expect that there would be a shared bathroom down the hall. And, I would just be hoping that it would be open if I needed to use it. 😊
Don't frost the windows of that lovely turret room, Luke. People won't be able to look out. Get a lovely floaty set of white "sheers" or embroidered net curtains.
Wish I could have attended....bucket list item someday!!🥰🥰🥰😉😉👍👍👍cant wait for you one millionth subscription, sending that positive energy your way💙🙏💛💙🙏💛💙🙏💛
You two are so cute together. Your personalities seem quite different. I would love to know more about your courtship , marriage and early years as husband and wife. Did you always know Mapperton would be the center of your lives.
I love your videos. I think you're inventive, thoughtful and care so much about your estate. Very interesting and enjoyable! Thank you for this content!
Congratulations on such a successful event! Always enjoy the banter between you and Luke -- so very cute and funny!😁. I think it is a guy/girl thing about bathrooms versus nature or an outhouse. I definitely say bathroom, my husband says using the outdoors is not a big deal as he says he has to because I am always in the one bathroom we do have!😯😁😅
So glad you got a nice day for it . I think people are just so glad to have things to go to. Tell Luke 'LLoyd loom' furniture is coming back into fashion! And you just need some 'modesty blinds' for the bathroom that could cover the lower parts of the window - no need for ruining the lovely windows.
Lol, I would expect a bathroom that is not an outhouse. And if people are going to shower/bath for extended periods, I would want an alternate location for a toilet to use.... But I would be fine with using communal bathrooms. Lol.
Julie Luke and team Mapperton! bravo on a successful event!! That's amazing! May I advise that you do this twice a year perhaps the second one could have a different theme for eg. antiques. Glad you have found another sponsor! Beaufort & Blake seems to have great products especially jumpers, going to buy a few online. good luck on the bathroom installment! Yet another great video!!! best of luck from Minnesota!!!
Luke you need some jazzy rollers for the lawn lol and a zero turn mower. My nephew worked lawn care this one house had stars rolled every July. And the bathroom project is going to be beautiful when done. Suggest moonlight baths lol 😆. 🇺🇸
Wow, what a great turn out of guests! Don't turn that beautiful sunroom into a bathroom. Just needs some cleaning up plus chairs and a table. If your doing a Bed and Breakfast. May I suggest taking a bedroom and convert it into 2 bathrooms. My parents have a 14 room house that has 2 bathroom for 6 bedrooms on the 2nd floor to share and an additional 2 bathrooms on the 1st floor. However, that is basically all just family and close friends.
This is a lovely event to watch. Seeing a castle and buying plants seems like a WONDERFUL DAY to me.
Spring looks great there. Michigan is still chilly & rainy.
Bathroom? You're smart to add them.

I have to add, while sharing was fine in my early 20s, now in my 30s I wouldn’t book without my own bathroom.
Yes, you think of a grand place like Mapperton having a private bath for privacy and comfort.
I have read that some estates used sheep to keep grass short. They’d just move them off the lawn to a pasture afterward. I’d guess the youngest gardeners then had to pick up what the sheep left behind.
Chef Ramsey gives his sheep 🐑 to friends he does that i saw that on his show

Different prices for en-suite or not might make it more enticing for people who want to go but would appreciate a slightly lower price.
In an older home I wouldn't really expect an ensuite bathroom. A shared one down the hall would be fine (similar to older hotels I've stayed at in London).

If I were traveling for a Yoga retreat, I would have an expectation of a private bathroom. Enjoy your channel! Cheers from Texas!
How very American of you!
Private bathroom is so not an issue
Wouldn't expect a private bath but 67 need one close by hot flashes need a short distance to get to a Toilet! Yep, would definitely want/expect my own bathroom, but personally, would be happier with a nice-sized shower as opposed to a bathtub.
So amazing! Beautiful ❤️! Thank you for sharing! I'm glad you had a fabulous turnout!
You might want a “classic” tub but one of the issues with them is that if you step wrong, they can tip… don’t ask me how I know :-)

Luke is so delightful!

I’m sure that with Covid-19 being at a lull, that people are loving to see places they haven’t been able to in years!!!
Hope you had a “blooming good time”!
So happy for you and the success of you event!
Maybe a jack & Jill bath? Room on each side, then privacy for both? Also drapes for the bath for privacy & warmth. A heater too?
Private bathroom would be nice but I also have stayed in lovely places where I shared one.
And if the only option at this house was to use the outhouse, no problem with that either. I'm sure that there are some vintage chamber pots that you can find in your attic. Haha.
Oooooh over a hundred thousand subscribers!👏👏👏
Lloyd Loom was relatively early in the 20th century, beautiful pieces; the laundry basket looked in very good condition.
I would love my own bathroom. 😊
Thank you for sharing "the latest" on what is going on at Mapperton. Feels like I just had a "personal visit"! Would love to visit one day. Nice to see Nestor again and hope he will soon "host" another episode!
Congrats on the success of the Spring Charity Plant Fair!
Wow ,I would love to live in England your place is beutiful!!!!!
Love the jumper Julie, great shows...I'm hooked!!

glad to see this and at full steam ahead again
A bathroom is a must, although I'm quite familiar with outhouses (not my favorite).
Thanks!
Thank you so much!

WELL DONE!!! So happy for all of you! 😍
Hey Luke the answer to the mowing problem is let it go and turn it into meadows!
Lloyd loom is always a treasure..I’ve two chairs that belonged to my mum...in use all the time !!
Mow the lawn in perfect lines!!
Congratulations
Wow,so many people at the plant fair! What a wonderful tradition and a nice moneymaker for Mapperton! Lovely sunny day too!
If that bathroom dosnt get direct sun imagine the orchids that could sit on the window sill so stunning
You have made a community. Sharing is caring that's why your are a success.
I'd want an en suite bathroom. I'm with Julie on this one.
Excited about the rewilding project. I am crossing my fingers for possible photography retreats in the future. Would love to visit when next in the UK.
I once stayed at a chateau in France. There was a tall screen in the room and the bathroom stuff was behind the screen.
In the early 1980's my sister and her husband moved from the Chicagoland area up into rural central Wisconsin. Her home had a bathroom and an out house. Their church had a 3 hole outhouse until the late 1990's!!

I am so happy that this event was so successful for you and Luke.
Luke causing carnage on the mower 👏👏👏👏
So nice to see this successful event. Regarding the bathroom question, answering the call of nature outdoors seems most undesirable when considering the cold, rain and dark. More bathrooms, 👍
There are apts in NYC that share bathrooms with other apts on their floor. We are not as spoiled here as you may think.
If I were lucky enough to be able to stay at a beautiful home like Mapperton, because of its age, I would expect that there would be a shared bathroom down the hall. And, I would just be hoping that it would be open if I needed to use it. 😊
So glad that Mapperton's tourism is going strong again. I'm sure it's a Blessing.
a midnight sortie to a remote toilet might be quite exciting at Mapperton!
Each room to have its own bathroom.
Don't frost the windows of that lovely turret room, Luke. People won't be able to look out. Get a lovely floaty set of white "sheers" or embroidered net curtains.
The background music makes this hilarious!
Wow good for you!
What a wonderful event!! I hope we will get a video going from vender to vender. I really enjoyed all the parts of the video!!! Love from Vermont

Croquet tournament would be so fun!
I own a 10 bedroom bed-and-breakfast in New Orleans and all of the bedrooms have private baths. I think that is the expectation today.
Congratulations on such a successful event! Always enjoy the banter between you and Luke -- so very cute and funny!😁. I think it is a guy/girl thing about bathrooms versus nature or an outhouse. I definitely say bathroom, my husband says using the outdoors is not a big deal as he says he has to because I am always in the one bathroom we do have!😯😁😅
I'm a bicoastal American and do agree with Julie that guests would prefer ensuite bedroom bath.
Lol.
Thanks
Thank you so much!
Congrats to all of mapperton🥰
The influx of people I'm sure, are mostly due to you and your families awesome You tube channels!:)
I would come and stay at Mapperton with or without my own bathroom. Actually, I would use an outhouse at Mapperton if that is what was required!
Great action 🤗🎊 events 👋🙂☕🍰☕

We do hold two Plant Fairs a year - Spring and Autumn!
