Hello here from texas. I have a question about my transfer case. I have a 2005 dodge ram 3500 dually 5.9l diesel and i put a brand new transfer case on this truck due to my front drive shaft came loose and broke my case. It ripped the vacuum hoses from the transfer case and now i cant find the vacuum harness that goes on there and I don't know how it goes back. Do you have a video showing this and a part number for the vacuum harness for this transfer case? Id really appreciate it and love the videos, iv learned alot here. Thanks 😊
I’ve heard a few complaints about the mirrors. What’s your take on them? Also, importantly, you made no mention of fuel mileage. I know it’s not required on the 3/4 + ton trucks, but it is a very important factor in my decision. What fuel mileage would you expect on this truck, not towing? Any idea same question on the Ford with their 6.7 Diesel? Your input is appreciated.
I have an older model (08 Dodge 2500) and I get between 15 to 19 mpg. If I were to delete the emissions stuff, it would probably get better. As for the mirrors: those are the same design I have on my 08 Dodge.
I have tested trucks from the 2020 lineup for all three brands. The trailer mirrors are much larger on GMC/Chevy and the Ford trucks but the Dodge/Ram models are not larger. The other brands trailer mirrors are larger, can extend out or in electrically and have lights as well as turn signals on them. It does make a difference. I also like the cameras which are located under the mirror.
These trucks are amazing but switching to the cp4 has proved to be a major mistake as more and more trucks are seeing the cp4 fail in the 19-20 model years thats why the 2021 now comes with what looks like an updated cp3.
@@tedbutts6932 yes its a good thing. The CP4 was failure prone and would contaminate the entire fuel system with metal fragments. Ram used the CP3 for years and I believe they switched to the CP4 for the 19-20 model year. They put the CP3 back in the 21’s because they are very reliable and last a very long time.
Or limited F350 is very similar with Ram only really having the Large touch screen as a major difference. Ford made a big interior leap around the same time the launched the first 6.7L. Ram seems to have made a similar leap here.
The hp seems a little low to me. Torque output was on the money. Is that much hp lost through the transmission and drivetrain? I know it's 370 at the crank but I would still expect to see 350ish at the wheel.
I have an '06 2500 with the 5.9 and 6 Spd Getrag. If I recall the max trailer tow rating on it is 13,200 lbs. Some of the half tons nowadays are close to that. As you said, these new 3/4 and 1 ton trucks just keep getting rated higher and higher. Not sure where it will end. Fun to watch though. Also, I had a '13 3500. The exhaust brake worked well but was factory programmed to shut off below 25 mph. That I didn't like. Some mountain roads it is desirable with a heavy trailer to be able to use it below 25 mph. Hopefully they have that figured out on the new ones.
I did it man, solid dodge guy and went with the 350 10 speed. This truck is a beast, only thing i dont like is the light steering vs the dodge solid feeling steering wheel. The power that this truck puts out still blows me away.
The HO has different injectors and different compression ratio. The non HO is suppose to have better mpg. Ram is only running the one type of rear axle .. believe its 12.25"
RAM needs to get better with the exhaust brake. 2020 should of been the year to do that. We need an exhaust brake that will lock up in 1st gear to keep heavy loads under 20mph on steep grades.
Great review video helped me decide on my purchase I bought this same model and trim, my question has to do with 4x4, specifically 4 hi, I noticed when I go slow in 4 high forward or reverse and wheels turned to right or left it feels like it's excessively making a grabbing and jerking motion...is this normal? I bought it last week and just drove around 1200kms thus far
How does the design of the air suspension impact load capacity? I have an old truck with standard springs but I carry a truck camper weighing about 3200# when loaded. I'm looking to upgrade to a newer truck but I'm not sure about the air suspension since it is so new. What do you think?
Supplemental air suspension has been around as long as these trucks have, now that it finally comes as a factory option doesn't mean it won't hold its weight, metaphorically speaking
I have air bags on my Chevy z71 2500 love them, all the way around, won’t have another truck, without them. I was really considering the dodge for that very reason until I saw this video. Air bags yes but no leafs at all! That’s a bad ideal. You get out and compressor quits, no comp, with u extra to add air, or a bag starts leaking, no extra support from the leafs being there and you are very likely dead in the water. I love the thought but should have kept springs too. Most def considering my kit costed $600 Comp and all and I still have my factory leafs, plus I can buy replacement parts cheap. And Dodge wants $1800 extra as an upgrade for it. I want my bags to be extra comfort and extra load just to help out not to be my full rear suspension. I see this now, as a fail by dodge instead of one of the main reasons I wanted one along with the option to upgrade to a 60 gal tank from the factory for $300. Thanks I had looked at the new ones but not under yet. I’d never thought they get rid of leafs all together that’s a fail.
Quick question I'm thinking of buying a new ram 2500 diesel, but I'm curious what they get for fuel mileage ,I do a lot of highway driving to and from work ? Currently in a 2015 Chevy Silverado with 120k miles and the transmission is already shot. Any info would be great Thanks
@@Gizmox79 about the same as my half ton Lol and can't tow or haul as much. Is making a pretty easy decision for me.Its just the price tag that I'm having the issue with.... Thanks again
CP4 - Rams biggest issue. My 2020 2500 only has 5k miles. Sitting at dealership now for 9 days for a Catastrophic Fuel System Failure. If it hit 30 days I will Lemon it and buy a Ford. Its a LVL2 Laramie and 3 months old.
@@davidbarfield3489 I dont know if you have made your decision yet as you posted the comment 2 months ago, but I will share my experience with you. I currently own a 2016 ram 2500 with the cummins, its got 44,000 miles on it and I havent had a single issue with the truck. With that said, there are things I dislike about it. For one the 68rfe is a ticking time bomb. Its not a matter of if it is going to grenade, but when is it going to grenade. I like the cummins but feel like they could get more power out of it, as in numbers similar to fords powerstroke. Overall, the ram feels alot less refined than the ford. The ford will shift nicer, have more power, and will have an overall better feel to the truck. With all this being said I ordered myself a 2022 f250. It can do everything the ram can do but better, except for the exhaust brake. If you are still looking for a truck I would recommend the ford, or a ram 3500 with the aisin. The aisin still seems to have rough shifts but is a better tranny than the 68rfe.
As far as the internal upgrades, we really aren’t hearing anything on common failures at this point. We do know that the CP4 injection pump is no longer on the 6.7, and Dodge/Cummins went back to the CP3 in 2021.
Been a dodge guy since 04. diesels bad transmissions, terrible shift points, hard shifts. Seats are uncomfortable and stearing wheel is not straight on to the driver. Aisin transmission shifts really hard since it came out. Front end ball joints come factory with play. Im completely non biased but i really liked dodge. I recently bought a 2020 F350, my goodness. The power is huge, it feels like a hemi on the highway, the suspension is smooth, no more shaking passenger seat. The 10 speed shifts sooooooo smooth. The height of the truck almost puts you in line with semi drivers. My only hate on the ford is how dam light the steering is. Dodge kept you cent in the road, the wheels always wanted to be straight. The ford steering is so light that the slightest twitch and your darting around on the road. People also say the exhaust brake isnt as strong, it is but if its in 10th it wont hold you like the ram would in 6th. The interior is comparable i suppose, ram really sells you with the big screen though. Im not a huge fan of how the ford screen is, its confusing and messy. Only fords ive ever owned was 70s and early 80s and i dont know how many times ive said i will never own a ford but this 2020 is a beast and i have zero regrets. If i could figure out the dam radio and how to change sirius on the steering wheel controls then id be even happier. Im not some city chump, i know how to drive, i live in the country and deal with 4 feet of snow and hot summers, this truck is superior vs the dodge.....never thought i would ever say that.
Yeah. I thought about trading my older F-350 Lariat for a 2020 RAM. After driving the RAM I was not at all impressed. The seats are total garbage. Seemed like a poorly made truck. I’m going to wait another year or two for any issues to be worked out of the 10-speed TorqueShift.
Guy I work with bought a 2020. He watches me add everything i add as injectors, tuner ,turbo etc. And hates that he cant do nothing cause he doesn't want to void the warranty.
A mildly built first gen 6.7 with a built 68rfe will walk a new ram that is stock or mildly built within what you can get away with without voiding the warranty and lol that's probably a concern if you have an $800 monthly note . I wanted a new 2500 but don't want 5 years of payments especially with a Biden Harris administration.
I have a 91.5 Dodge and I like the old truck but these new trucks are amazing I mean my truck is like Stone Age compared to these new trucks fact is there’s not much difference between the 1969 dodge frame and suspension in mine definitely a major improvement on the new trucks and the whole quiet that engine is is very good the new cylinder block is far superior to mine even though I have a very good quality block and I have a Hamilton can cylinder head but you just can’t beat that new technology problem is cost of ownership and reliability issues in the future there’s a whole lot more things to fail and the cost of getting work done on the truckWould be astronomical I like the new truck it’s beautiful that interior just knocks his socks off but anyway yeah that center consul is really nice but the only problem there is you can’t have your girl sitting right next to you ha ha ha ha well anyway a good job on that review you’re a class act and this guy here really appreciates thoroughbred diesel I bought stuff from you before when I was doing a head replacement and stuff like that on my truck and you did me right very right anyhow I’ll be get more stuff from your Sunday all right have a good day bye

Shouldn’t have any problem with a Cummins but you could never trust the transmission. Friend had a 2011 and 2012 2500, both transmissions blew out multiple multiple times.
My problem with my 6 that I have a 2016 5500 not an issue with it except the one recall on that clutch fan but my problem is there oil pans they need to make them either aluminum or stainless steel they will not warranty in oil pan 11 hundred bucks to put a new oil pan on my truck because of the salt 93000 miles and if it wouldn't warranty the oil pans go figure $8,000 warranty for nothing
That makes two of us. I enjoy the NV4500 and the sound of the 12v. But.... if I ever find an extra $100,000 in my bank account, I will get that Ram Prospector XL, HD on 40's. But I'll still keep my 12v.

Unless it says Peterbilt, Mack, or Kenworth on the hood you don't need a 10 speed(unless you like to hear one shift a lot). Ram has been behind in performance for the past few years. Adding 4 more gears won't help it.

Glad I’m not the only one shaking my head. Not sure why anyone would buy one of these overpriced old cab trucks with a failure prone 68rfe and a shiney metal producing cp4..
Well when your that financially stable you take advantage of the credit. Pay 3% or less in interest and put half or less down and pay it off overtime vs wasting money on something that doesn't return. Also when you are in that position you tend to get new cars every 3to5 yrs and with all that mentioned above you are never in negative equatiy when you trade in you should be in positive equatiy and then you use that money for your down-payment on your new vehicle. Last 3 cars I have purchased I have done 0 put of pocket and rollover my equatiy as down-payment and get some cash from dealership to pay for my registration and be positive with equatiy on my new vehicle
What transmission does this have? You know where I am going with this....Dodge issues are the transmissions. Aisin transmissions are good. I heard Dodge was considering the Allison but do not know if they did.

And the big question is have they figured out DEF yet I bought a brand new 2013/2500 first year of urea and basically used it as an around town grocery getter and pulled a fifth wheel to Florida a few times after 30,000 miles it was endless trying to get sensors and such fixed at the dealer once every two months nothing worse than seeing that you only have 200 miles travel time left traded it in 2016 for a 2500 with a 6.4 gas couldn't deal with that diesel no more really sucks it would pull a house down but the DEF was endless nonsense
Listening is key. He said “they were the first production truck to reach 4 digit torque numbers at 1000” which is exactly correct. Ram announced their 1000 lb ft of torque numbers for the H.O. and then a few months later Ford announced their numbers for the 2020 Super Duty at 1050 lb ft.
Changes like a Chinese cummins. Look it up before you hate. Just saying, we have 4 and all 4 have pump issues which threw metal in feul system before it fails. $ 12k if you can get parts, if it dont trash more. Its that cp4. Hate to be pulling load when it fails. Just shuts off, no warning. Dead duck. Yup.

Hey Wade what about the '21, I have been hearing that Cummins went back to CP3...can you confirm that? Thanks brother great videos
Yes, we have confirmed this. The 21’s went back to CP3.
Is this a good thing? I have a 21 and I am a first time owner of a Diesel.
Chrysler has recalled the CP4 grenades on 2019 and 2020's.

I’m on the fence about getting a Ram 2500 or a Ford 250. This will be my first diesel... any advice?
same I've done tons of research and my older brother is a diesel mechanic and I'm leaning towards the Ram 2500
The hp seems a little low to me. Torque output was on the money. Is that much hp lost through the transmission and drivetrain? I know it's 370 at the crank but I would still expect to see 350ish at the wheel.
I’d have preferred it if they kept solid lifters... I’d rather adjust every 1000-150,000 than have one collapse and start ticking.
I know. The trucks are getting lighter too. I wouldn’t have much “towing confidence” hauling 30,000# down a hill in a 3/4 - 1-ton truck.
Ok Wade
Ram 3500 diesel vs Ford 350 diesel
You have to pick one for yourself ?
I did it man, solid dodge guy and went with the 350 10 speed. This truck is a beast, only thing i dont like is the light steering vs the dodge solid feeling steering wheel. The power that this truck puts out still blows me away.
Interesting that Ram appears to have gone back to the CP3 for 2021.
Thank the government for making the refineries produce shitty fuel. Don’t worry, I’m sure with the new green deal coming it will get better.

They did change the transfer case and rear axle in the HO models. HO is a lot more than just a tune change

Cant you just manually shift into 1st with your exhaust brake?? Thats why i do with my 4th gen

I bought it last week and just drove around 1200kms thus far
yep 100% normal
That’s the locking rear differential. Totally normal.
I love my 2019 l5p duramax.....

The aisin still seems to have rough shifts but is a better tranny than the 68rfe.
is the new engine as reliable or what areas are problematic?
Do you ever think ram will ever come out with a manual option trans again?

Well when your that financially stable you take advantage of the credit.
