so it doesn't matter if you have intersecting meshes if you use netfabb? The hinge columns down the back of the box were not made into a single mesh shape (just joined)?

I don't understand how you flatten the vertices at 4:18. I rotated and tried scaling when selecting the vertices by using the b button but doesn't work like you had.
