  • Last out of 5 episodes of the mini-series I could titled "how to destroy your youtuber and biker career in 5 steps".
    Leaving from my home town Rome, i start riding south with the plan of reaching Sicily in a couple of weeks and get ready to take a ferry from Palermo to Tunisi, in Tunisia.
    But i'll never reach it... instead I'll break 12 bones falling on the ground while still in Italy.
    Step 5 out of 5 - from Modica to Sciacca, and the whole sequence of the accident.
    Please support my channel and help it to grow. Thanks! 🥰 paypal.me/ZeroHighways
    I ride a Voge 300 Rally fully loaded for long term adventure solo travel.

    This is a reminder that we aren't rally dakar riders and we should always respect our limits, both from a riding skill point of view and also from a logistic point of view. If a rider falls during a rally race there is a tested system that brings him assistance and care. If you fall and get injured in a country road like this, getting help can be very difficult. So ride safe, always wear the proper gear and adjust your speed based on the condition.

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +21

      For sure i'm not a professional rider, but that was far from being a rally ride. A professional would have approached that curve at almost double the speed sliding the rear wheel and wheeling while exiting 😊

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@greyfisher3897 i guess that problem is not youtube but just the fact of riding almost 365 days per year, which increases significantly the chances of having an accident, compared to a normal average use of a few weeks in good season.

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@greyfisher3897 riding more often = more chances to have an accident, this is a mathematical fact, not an excuse. I honestly don't understand what's the point of this kind of lesson you are trying to give to someone you don't know. You are judging me probably after watching a single video. Give a look to the rest of the 210 videos and then come back with clearer ideas

      I don’t know if it’s just the camera, but I’ve seen lots of riders looking like they think they’re in a race. At my age, off road riding, I’m going slow and steady. Like fast road riding, there’s a point when you have to consider if it’s really worth the added risk. When you’re young, you’re crazy and invincible - you also bounce much better-but I see no point in pushing anymore these days. Just go slower, more carefully, take in the views. It’s produces much less adrenaline and doesn’t look so dramatic, but if it keeps you out of the hospital and on you’re bike that’s better. If you’re in competition of course this doesn’t apply, but few of us are.

      @@greyfisher3897 you are probably more experienced that me...regarding boot importance, maybe they play a bigger protection role on pavement crashes where they provide sliding absorption on hard surfaces which mitigates damage as opposed them sticking under. Crash bars break a lot of legs all the time, no broken leg in this crash seems like a lucky outcome imo since this type of crash without a bailout often breaks femur

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@greyfisher3897 yes, the level of protection given by riding gear varies widely depending on the situation. In my case for example my armor saved my shoulder but nothing could do for the collar bone and ribs. The boots saved my feet many times in the past, but cannot do anything if you twist your ankle between the bike and a stone or a log.
      What I don't agree with you is the expression "world of pain". Even after only 2 years of travelling the balance between the amazing experiences i made and the consequences of this accident is still well in favour of the experiences.

    • @pierb2848
      @pierb2848 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@oreocarlton3343 The most important job of motorcycle boots is to mitigate ankle damage. Quality boots prevents your foot from moving too much in each direction, massively reducing the chances of breaking it.
      Crash bars, if done correctly, saves a lot of legs. When I fell with my trk502 those chrash bars probably saved my leg, as the bike didn't even touch the ground with the bodyor the handle, thanks to them.

    Questa caduta mi ha fatto tornare indietro nel tempo, quando a 17 anni andavo al liceo, asfalto bagnato e ruote tacchettate, scivola il posteriore e la moto mi trascina sull’ asfalto per un po’ (anche perché non l’ho lasciata andare). Niente ossa rotte, ma gli strappi muscolari mi stavano uccidendo (soprattutto all’ultima ora di scuola). Ti faccio i miei auguri di una pronta guarigione e una ripresa in moto più grintosa di prima 😊.

      It's already 2 months and a half for me. Just today the doctors told me the collar bone is at a good point, but still no sport allowed. Ciao. Thanks for sharing and get well soon. I don't think the darker, and possibly slippery, patch of earth was to blame because your front wheel went slightly to the right of it. To me it looks like the main reason you lost the front was a handlebar over-correction to the right at the same time the front suspension was unloading. If your finger was on the front brake at the time it's possible that contributed to the loss of traction as well. I wouldn't say I'm an expert enduro rider either, but if you don't mind my saying, I think for these riding conditions and your apparent skill level you were going too fast and having to brake too hard to negotiate the curves.

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Ciao Nick. I always ride with 1-2 fingers on each lever, and i'm 100% sure I didn't break by accident nor intentionally. You can see it from the rear red light.
      Speed was basically the same of each similar corner in 10km of road. If you pay attention right before the corner most of the stones and gravel disappear from the ground, leaving a very hard nude ground. That curve was on north side and it has been raining in the previous days, so there was a thin layer of slime. Togheter with the little slope behind the central ridge it acted like an ice sheet.
      Overcorrection didn't help for sure, but I think the situation was already out of control.

      I received many comment like yours, and some other showing surprise about the quantity of fracture for such a "stupid" crash.
      I just believe that it's hard to say how strong the impact is from a video, and the same impact can cause different damages depending on many factors. One of those factors is if you have time to understand what's going on and therefore react somehow.

    • @lostinpa-dadenduro7555

      @@ZeroHighWays For sure. I was on a dirt road, and then my front wheel washed out, and I was on the ground in an instant. There was no time at all. I went on my side just like you did. I think the force of the bike weight and the body weight makes you hit the ground like a hammer.
      My collarbone X-ray looked just like yours. They gave me two plates and eight screws to put it together. I healed up and I am still riding. I love the riding, being outdoors and being with my friends. 😀👍

    • @ZeroHighWays
      @ZeroHighWays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lostinpa-dadenduro7555 just to be clear those x-ray you see in the video are not mine, because at the time of editing I still didn't collect them from the hospital, so i took 2 random from internet just to give an idea. My collar bone was less displaced, but with a very weird splinter pointing 60° downward. Right this morning i had the (hopefully) last check up to it and I saw that the splinter is still there in the same position but new bone built between it and the actual collar bone. So basically right now i have a triangle under the collar bone 😅

    la caduta...secondo me da ben prima di cadere eri troppo allegro, troppo confidente, col fatto che eravate in due e che il tuo compagno di run non era uno qualunque ma il Marret, che in off ci sa andare forte, forse ti sei fatto prendere dalla libidine e hai messo da parte quella riserva di prudenza che fossi stato da solo avresti avuto

      Senza dubbio da solo avrei guidato diversamente. Ma fa parte del gioco, l'importante è imparare la lezione. E, soprattutto, continuare a guidare con meno rischi nei momenti in cui davvero serve, ossia dove un incidente del genere non te lo puoi assolutamente permettere.

    Get well soon - I've had a few sudden falls like that myself and they're never more entertaining than the previous time. It does seem like body position played a big role in your fall - when you get back on the bike, start off slowly but work on exaggerating body position - ie.) if you're turning left, exaggerate how far you move your body to the right to offset/counterweight to keep weight over the contact patch. It will also help you to keep your elbows out further if your rotate your hands on the bars/grips some. Think of it as holding the grips more like a screwdriver rather than the lap bar of a roller coaster.
    Cheers to a speedy recovery.
