Thanks VERY much for this video. I had immediately found the DIMM slot on the bottom, and surmised (from the markings) that there was another one under the keyboard -- but your video saved me a lot of time and angst, figuring out how to safely remove the keyboard to get at that top slot!
Thank you for such a clear, instructive video - it took me less than ten minutes to change both modules following your guide. On re-boot, it took several minutes trying to make sense of its bigger memory, but eventually cottoned on....
I just did this upgrade on mine. Works great, very easy. Looked like someone had been in under the keyboard previously, one of the screws was pretty stripped out, I did manage to get it out and replaced the RAM and found a replacement screw while I was at it. Machine runs a bit faster, and it'll be even better once I get the 256GB SSD installed.
Good straight forward show and tell. I would suggest having a screw driver that has a magnetic tip, magnet on a stick and then a magnetic tray to hold screws, especially the ones that are different lengths. Good job.
Great video thanks, had to upgrade my wifes work laptop which is an old D620 W/ Windows 10 and it only had 2GB of ram. Wanted to know how bad it was but this was relatively simple compared to doing my sisters ASUS mini laptop.
I just bought myself a D630 and my daughter(12) a D620 and it's her first computer. She loves to game(minecraft) and I wanted to make hers faster for gaming so THANKS!!! It sounds easy enough for me:-)
True was just about to say. It's somewhat pricey to do though at 35 dollars per 4gb DDR2 stick but worth it though. I love these Dell business laptops.
Thanks. Very helpful. I took out the 2 GBs of RAM on my Dell D630 and swapped in 4GBs. (2 x 2GBs) I'm hoping the Intel GMA 3100 Mobile GPU will now be able to allocate more of the computer's RAM for video memory. BTW, the Dell Latitude 630 can take 8GBs of RAM if your are using the latest BIOS and running Windows 7 64bit.
You showed the how to removed and insert the memory sticks. What's the memory in the laptop and what memory stick you are replacing it with? Any brand in particular? Any memory size? I think its important to know in order to complete the operation. Don't you think?
Thanks for the great video! Can someone help me in advising me which memory modules (size + specs) I should purchase in the store? I have a Dell d630 with Win7 64bit installed. I installed it last year, it ran ok for some months, but recently it started freezing frequently and physical memory shows nearly a percentage of 100. Only way to get around it is to reboot system. I have already increased physical memory in advanced system settings to >2000-
Hi! I have a Dell D630 T250 and am wondering what the max capacity for the ram is? Is it worth upgrading the cpu too and would there be a noticeable difference? And lastly, what's the best laptop gpu can I get for this laptop? The service tag is G6D6PH1 if that helps. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I installed 4G memory but the windows 7 system shows there only 2G available. Do you know where the problem could be? Do I need to reinstall the drivers for the memory?
You CAN drive ram with faster refresh and fsb at lower specs right? Because I just put two fsb 800 modules in and it wont boot anymore. *edit: reseated and works now. But it drives the modules only at 667mhz
You don't need to bend the the keyboard just line it all up and slide it in. The reason i say this is because the first time i followed his directions i cracked it but had an extra one laying around but just move it around some and it will slide in no problem!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that the d630 can only get up to 4gb ram. Also, a question; does up to 4gb ram mean 4gb per slot or 2gb per slot to make 4gb?
I upgraded with a 2gb ram stick in the back because there wasn't a ram stick there originally. I originally had 2gb ram and not it shows 3.5gb. What happened to the missing half of a gb?
i have 2gb of ram i my computer and i have like 200mb of free disc space and it wont increase the sapce. if i upgrade it will the disce sapce increase at all
It is ddr2. For the speed, mb best is the ddr2-800 (pc2-6400). For the brand, mb just it has to be for intel-mobos and cpus. Crucial, Hynix and Samsung seem pretty good ones, but if there are amd-only-oriented rams, would better not take them. aData and lenovo ones fcked me up once. For the quantity, it can handle at least three gigs (if the CPU and OS are 32-bit). If the CPU and OS are 64-bit, at least 4 gigs. Some people say that they have put more than 4, up to 6-8 gb can be handled, but this may need a bios update (mb A13-A17 or somethin) and specific ram, if not even a CPU. You can see these two sites: www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/latitude-d630# ; www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Latitude-D630-Laptop-Can-it-actually-handle-8GB-of-RAM/td-p/3576889
Everything is fine, but ram on Latitude D620 is BIOS limited 3,25GB. I'm with latest BIOS downloaded from DELL site, but the bios see only 3,25GB, so my WIN 7 Ultimate x64 show this -> "Installed memory (RAM) 4,00GB (3,25GB usable)"
I added another 2gb ram to my d620 laptop, but when i go to "view system info" i still see 1.99GB of Ram... Am i missing something? i though it was supposed to be easy?
i have installed 2x2GB PC 5300 667Ghz, windows 7 home premium, but BIOS and Windows are seeing only 2GB of RAM. i 've tried single stick on each of the slots and works fine sees 2 GB, so slots and modules are fine. updated BIOS to latest version , still the same. unplugged BIOS battery pout back again, still the same. any ideas sseiyah?
Yes you do... lol do exactly as person does in video. its under laptop with one screw.. and half to take off plastic above keyboard has a little divit in it.. lift it with a knife or something sharp.. afterwords, there's three little screws.. remove those and pull the keyboard towards screen a little.. it'll have a ram card right under it.. don't have to disconnect keyboard should be able to set it back a little and release little leavers on sides of ram as back one.. pull it out put new ram card in push down till you hear a snap. done, backtrack steps. done!. lol.
Nice video. Just purchased D630 at PawnShop @ 99$. Want to put 2gb stick of RAM in one slot. Can I run one stick of 1gb and one stick of 2gb? Total of 3gb. Will it make system any faster? Spec say it's a 32. Thanks!
The RAM will slow down to match the slowest RAM, but more RAM allows for more caching of the much slower HDD, so with heavy load even more slower RAM should be faster.
99$ dollars, sweet deal. they were over a thousand dollars when first out.. LOL. however, that's not a good idea no.. to have an odd amount of ram. always want an even amout. such as (2) 2gb ram cards so it'd make 4gbs.. or can just buy 1 4gb ram card and put it in one slot Id say in the under keyboard one.. or one 8gb and put it in the slot. these laptops aren't meant to run fast n do video honestly. but it'll help open an load stuff a lot better.
from the people that brought you CCLEANER their's something called SPECCY you can use speccy to analyze both ram slots and compare one 2gb ram to another and figure out which 2gb ram is better.....download it from the ccleaner sight (piriform ccleaner) or this other sight called hippo....something or other....i'm not 100% sure of the name...

Your video saved the day. It never occurred to me to look under the keyboard, and the Crucial installation video didn't mention it.
Thanks for the video! This was perfect. Every little comment and pointer, exactly what I encountered.
thanks so much! this made upgrading my ram painless
I just did this upgrade on mine. Works great, very easy. Looked like someone had been in under the keyboard previously, one of the screws was pretty stripped out, I did manage to get it out and replaced the RAM and found a replacement screw while I was at it.

Which company ram you are using with it ??
Excellent video - Quick, clear, easy and concise! Thank you.
great vid - 1 additional tip: when pulling the top strip off, lean the screen back a bit and the strip lifts off easier
Good straight forward show and tell. I would suggest having a screw driver that has a magnetic tip, magnet on a stick and then a magnetic tray to hold screws, especially the ones that are different lengths. Good job.
Thanks so much for showing us how to perform this operation!
Thank you thank you! Key piece of information and how-to, getting at the DIMM under the keyboard. I had no idea.
i took mine apart.. easy .. just take time to be careful about remembering which length screws came out of which holes. And
thank you so much. The first one was easy to find, but I would have torn the whole back trying to find the second one lol. Thanks again.
Thank you. I have been trying to figure this out for a while now.
Thank you Sir! really appreciate this vid!
It's 2021 but I have Dell D630 and why not it's a vintage for my study.
Thank you very much! Bless you Sir!
Excellent instructions. Clear and concise. Thank you.
Helpful and concise. My only problem was the previous owner put those keyboard screws in wayyy too tight
Clear and simple guide. Many thanks
Tqvm brother 4 easy explaination.
I took less 15 minutes to change second hidden ddr2.
Thanks.

If you upgrade the bios to A18 or the latest version A19 you can use 8gb (2x4g) in the D630
True was just about to say. It's somewhat pricey to do though at 35 dollars per 4gb DDR2 stick but worth it though. I love these Dell business laptops.
Perfect! Thank you my friend.

Even using a 500 GB solid state drive for the Windows XP Dell Latitude D620 or D630 laptops is a great one.
