Just upgraded mine using this guide, thank you so much! Note to other folks: the screws are easy to strip so be careful when taking the back off. Also, the panel came off easiest for me in the back corners instead of the front like this video just FYI

I wish I saw this about 3 hours ago! Just upgraded mine, this is a great tutorial! Can't get the two corners of the case too clip back in. I went form 8gb single to 16gb dual, what a difference! I subbed for the great information you give! The click on the four screws scared me, I didn't want to break anything.

@@The.Odyssey It's the front corners, not a major problem, just annoying!! I saw you have/had a CRF 450! I used to have an XT 400, but changed to a Fazer 600. Maybe I'll remove the cover again, and try to re seat it properly! It works great, so if it ain't broke, why fix it?
The 450 in the valve Adjustment video is not mine. I do however have a 2005 CRF 450 frame that will be used for a CR500 Aluminum Frame conversion coming up in future videos. I have a 1987 CR500 engine for the project. I should hopefully be getting to work on that in the next month or two, once I sell off a couple completed projects to finance this and other projects (a CR250 engine I just built and a 2007 CBR1000 that I am currently changing the crank in.)

It worked out well for me thanks. The SODIMM insertion didn't have those flip-up clamps in your video but I'm a old hand at putting in SODIMMs so I wasn't confused. I did not have to jimmy up the Ethernet port either, it didn't constrict the case for removal. I guess what passes for a Latitude 5511 changes over time.

Extremely useful for someone with severe computer ineptitude such as myself. I own a very similar machine (but with a 256GB SSD and only 8GB RAM, yeah I got the cheapo lol). Planning on going to 32GB and adding a 1TB, so the two video’s you’ve done on this machine are extremely useful. Thank you so much for helping this idiot out 🤣

My 5511 is my first foray into computers in general, and computer based gaming entirely. Coming from ~15 years experience with Xbox consoles, having the modularity of a PC is rather nice. I just have never had to consider upgrades, and your videos on your 5511 have helped dividends on what upgrades I considered doing, and the processes on going about it. I can’t thank you enough for that alone lol. I would’ve been more lost than a ship in a fog bank 😆

I just did this upgrade, and had the same problem with xmp. Had to get crucial. I'd love to see the SSD upgrade as I here dell doesn't include mounting brackets if you wanted to add another drive. Great video
I was thinking the same thing on the brackets. I need to validate. Certainly an upgrade I want to do as I like to hold my original recordings. I plan to mostly save externally in the long run but I'm finding that my 1 terabyte hard drive is filling up faster than I want it to with active projects. Thanks for watching and the feedback! The vengeance is XMP ram and will not work in the dell. I went with the Crucial because I knew it would work (tried vengeance first and it did not)

Hello! May be you can help me with my issue. Right now I tried to install RAMs of two different manufactures - by Samsung and by Kingston Fury. But it was unnsuccess. I was doing all the way like in your video, but when I turned power on, I saw keyboard light indication and black screen without logo. I was waiting more then 10 minutes, but nothing was changed.
When I install my default fabric RAMs by Samsung, I saw such black screen, but after minute boot was started . But when I did such manipulations with RAMs I bought two times - I have no success, just black screen for the whole time.
All characteristics of new RAMs are right with my Dell.
May be I don't know some secret of Dell?
I as well did the ram upgrade with my g15 but it didn't boot up, only the keyboard was lighting up. And nothing else happen. Dell said the ram I was using was the right specs to use. Now dell is fixing it. Love the laptop but damn just a simple ram upgrade
Was it xmp ram? Did you get a series of blinks from the unit? Did you try the original ram back in it?

Its why I only use Crucial RAM on Dell boxes/laptops. I had a similar issue.
I have the same laptop and I bought the same Corsair vengeance ram and it didn’t work. I watched this video to see what I was doing wrong and it’s the same problem you had 😂. I should have watched this before I bought the ram.

Just bought the g15 with the 8gb RAM hasn’t arrived yet but in terms of RAM for that model what’s the max ram I can get (I’ve heard some say 32 and some say 64, and a 1-2 tb SSD ? I’m a laptop and console gamer. Also make music so if there are any other upgrades possible (ik it’s a laptop so space is a hinderance) but even externally if anything can be done to make this run better then stock I’d appreciate if you could lmk . Thanks for the like and subscribe, much appreciated. According to crucial you can upgrade to 64. Important note, my 32G is ruining at 2667, not 3200. It still improved the performance of my machine but wanted to throw that out there. Unfortunately the bios in these dells is not allowing us to overclock.
According to the specification manual for the G15-5515 the Memory configurations supported are:
● 8 GB, 2 x 4 GB, Dual-Channel DDR4, 3200 MHz
● 12 GB, 1 x 4 GB + 1 x 8 GB, 3200 MHz
● 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, Dual-Channel DDR4, 3200 MHz

I do not know as I haven't upgraded one of those systems. You could probably purchase the Samsung Ram straight from Dell but I have no idea on the cost.

Depends on your laptop. The max for mine (g15 5520) is 16gb each slot (2 total)
i heard somewhere that you can run higher clocked ram in these laptops too and that dell intentionally puts crappy ram in these machines. im not sure if either is true but a higher clocked ram would increase performance too if that were the case
I was unable to over clock in the bios. I believe that's the problem.

I've read that you can just add another 8 gig stick, personally I would change the pair to 2 8's or if you think you might want to upgrade more in the future go with 1 16 gig stick now so you can add another 16 in the future if you desire. Follow the instructions in the video and crucial will make recommendations

Have you tried to increase the GHZ Frequency from 2400 to 2900 ??
I believe this is a voltage / bios issue. I was not able to overclock this system to run at the faster speed. The dells are pretty locked up in this aspect.
Hi, so basically, and thanks to you, I was able to upgrade my ram from 16gb to 32gb.
But since then, my Dell g15 5510 doesn't turn on when unplugged.
I did used a Crucial ram, haven't got any flashes and I'm pretty sure I plugged the battery back correctly.
The laptop even charges up when I plug in.
So yeah, idk what to do at this point.
When charging do you see a battery percentage when you mouse over? I've only had one other person comment with your same issue and it was in fact the battery was not plugged in.
@@The.Odyssey I do see the percentage, it even goes up as it's supposed to (ex: going from 75% to 78% after a couple of minutes).
I believe that the circuit for the battery must be the problem but I'm only guessing at this point.
@Timeline08 1. Try reinstalling the battery drivers. (In device manager)
2. Try to unplug and replug it in, or make sure it's all the way in. The battery can be stubborn when you try to plug it in and it could be barely in.
3. Try to disable and re-enable the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (in device manager)
4. Kill static energy:
- shut down laptop
- unplug all usb devices
- disconnect battery and hold power button for 30 seconds
- plug back in
- try turning on without plugging it in.

I was under the impression that this model can only accept 8gb ram sticks in the slots. Mine also claims to be 1 upgradeable slot, and one fixed slot. Any thoughts on this?

I would recommend using crucials tool (crucial.com) and seeing what they recommend

Does it matter what side of the stick is facing up when you insert it? Also, do you have to worry too much about grounding yourself?
Yes, they will only fit one way. One is up and one down I believe. I touch the frame often to ground the proper way is with a ground strap. There is always a risk to the computer if not grounded. That is my official response. My unofficial response is "it'll be fine"

I believe it is advised to match the stocks but I also think I have read of people not doing that and being successful. Really, I can't advise you on that with 100% confidence.
This is 1x8r or 1x16r. I hard this is massive difference..

I know they are very similar but I can't say for sure. Most likely you can follow this guide, you will see the ram when you open it up. Be sure to not purchase XMP ram, that will not work. I recommend the crucial that I used

I have the dell g15 5520 and i bought the Corsair Vengeance DDR5 2x8gb ram sticks and im just wondering if thats compatible, and yes the current ram in it is DDR5.
Should be, crucial website has a thing where you can look up your laptop and find compatible ram. I also have the 5520, and it came with 2x 8 gb sticks, so I'm upgrading to 2x 16gb of the ddr5

I have no idea... check with your warranty provider. I don't use warrantys. seems like they just send you someone else's machine with its own problems. I fix my own things

i installed new ram and when i put it back corner with letter G is sitting slightly above table. What could be the cause, backpanel is perfeclty attached?
Seems like something must not be clipped in place right. Rock the laptop and pay attention to the points that stay on the surface. One of those points is sitting down too far.

Dells are picky, I recommend going through crucial like I did. The corsair vengeance did not work in mine

I just went to buy the ram and Amazon showed me a newer version. Crucial RAM 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22. Should still work right?
I would run through the crucial website and make sure it says it will work. My first attempt didn't work out with the XMP so I liked the guarantee of knowing for my purchase

They don’t have to be the same. Most people get the same ones at the same capacity though. I’m buying mine off of aliexpress even though it takes a week longer to get where I am.
Mine is 16GB + 32GB for 48GB total. No requirement to be same, unlike DIMMs, a SODIMM does not.

My laptop(g15 5511) screen goes blank and I see orange light and white light blinking after I installed ram. I tried to upgrade my laptop from existing ram of 8gb to 16gb by adding another ram of 8gb in second slot. It is corsair vengeance SoDimm ddr4 3200mhz 1.2v cl22.

Corsair vengeance is XMP ram which cannot be used with this model. This is why I recommend the Crucial in the video. I made the same mistake when I upgraded.
Also, if you revert to your original RAM, it will come back up. Same scenario for me.

One of my captive screws is stripped and i’ve tried a bunch of methods to try and get some grip but it won’t budge at all. i used the same screw driver for all of them and i only have a problem with one. any method to try and get it loose?
It didn't pop up anywhere? Id probably start by the network port. When you say stripped, are you talking head or threads?
@@The.Odyssey Stripped head. Im not able to unscrew it at all. I tried to see if i could get the cover off without unscrewing it but i wasnt able to.
I’m having the same exact issue, did you end up finding a way of opening it? Both bottom two captive screws are a little stripped but they won’t move loosely like the top two. The bottom left of the laptop popped up a little but it’s not enough to exactly pull it off, I’m scared that if I try to jam it up I’m prone to damaging something. Any advice?

@@hypexpope After about an hour of prying it, I actually got it. It may be a dangerous method but I actually took a butter knife and slid underneath the top and worked my way around the top hinges towards the fan and pushed towards the bottom of the computer and I got all of those top hinges off. And I lifted towards the bottom and those bottom clips just unclipped. It’s a bit of a sketchy method but it worked for me, so I figured I would let you know. It does take a bit of time though and be sure to be really gentle and careful.

Have you opened yours? I've had people saying they were told they didn't have one only to find one in there. That slot got a 2TB drive a month or 2 after this video.

I got the laptop as a present and my parents say If I open the case they will loose the warranty, I don’t wanna ask for the plan because they will 100% no that I want to upgrade my ram so I was just wondering if dell allows your to open the case of the laptop and upgrade the ram or does the warranty void if you do open it, I worded it quite poorly in the first comment, sos.
@@willmas2543 it may be the case, I'm not sure. I didn't worry about it because I know I'm going to fix it myself if there is an issue. You may be able to call them and give them the number on the bottom and ask if the upgrade would void the warranty.
Why when u had the 16gb memory u were using let’s 6gb.

Hey, i bought the same crucial ram sticks with 2x16 gb ram and it works perfectly fine at 3200 mhz. I believe that this Video is a bit older, maybe there was a problem earlier qith it that it went down to 2666 mhz. You CAN buy it, dont worry :) ( i just googled it like thousand Times before LOL)

I believe this is a voltage issue and you can't overclock these dells. Perhaps with a custom bios

my friend, i am using the ryzen edition of the same device, my ram is 8gb and the system freezes up, i bought 2x16 ram from the internet, can this problem be caused by insufficient ram memory?

If you haven't already. Try turning the 4 screws that doing come all the way out. Mine help start pushing it open. Elswise I would your a mall spreader or screwdriver to lightly pry near the network adapter and work my way around.

Plugging the info in on crucials website should let you know what is compatible. The rest of the job will most likely be similar at worst.
@@The.Odyssey I searched the g15 5515 on the site and it said it is capable of 64. My current is 16. But when i went to dram it said none availed where do I find the parts? If the link you provided below works for it I don't mind just going up to 32 :]
