    Welcome back to Discovercars! Thank you to all that have subbed so far and have been watching my content recently. I've borrowed this Porsche 718 Boxster from the Porsche Centre Canberra, here in Australia.

    Just reading some of these comments makes it clear that there are people here who really don’t know what they are talking about and some who do. Love the flat 6 engine driven it in all iterations of Porsche’s and will always be the noise a Porsche should make but there is this thing called the future which is inevitable. Won’t be long before boxsters and caymans are electric. The 718 has excellent handling and serious pace coupled with excellent build quality makes it the best car in its class. May not be the purists’ cup of tea but if you jump into a 718 and drive it and you still think it’s shit you need your head checked

    Great review. I had zero interest in the Cayman until the 718 was introduced. Got one sitting next to my 911 now great car that performs well beyond it's "league"

    Solid review, I own a 2018 718 base and just didn't feel the need to shell out another $12k for only 50hp, this car has quite enough power and quickness for daily AND weekend fun. Unless you're regularly taking it on a track, you really won't miss the extra hp, but the additional features might be worth considering, though, in a higher trim.

      I find the S to be a smoother car, the base has more of an "on-off character". The base is a great car, but there's more than just HP in the 12K.

      This is my favorite one, the closest thing to a full roadster. I just would like shorter gears and a smaller rear ratio.

    The s eliminates the lag under 2600 on the base. 9.5 cu ft in trunk and frunk. Top down to the grocery is a blast on the 2 lanes.

    Good review, I own a 718S Boxster and love everything about it. Never considered the earlier Boxster's because of reliability issues with the flat 6 from 2006 to 2016 the 718 chassis is also 70% stronger

    • @freakerss
      @freakerss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "Reliability issues" affected the M96 and M97 engines which were used in MY up to 2008. There are no issues with the MA1 engine that replaced the M97 in MY2009. Saying you chose a new car to avoid reliability issues shows how ignorant you are to the issues at hand.

    Yeah good review. I had a 911 and much prefer the looks and handling of the718. Sound is just fine, it gives it a distinct character from the 911 and in my opinion, you don’t buy a Porsche for the soundtrack when , if that’s your thing, you can get a V8. Definitely the most fun car I’ve had..

    • @discovercars
      @discovercars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. Defiantly unique in the range. And the use of even length headers provides, I think, a more genuine Porsche sound experience.

      @@discovercars - Couldn't you have chosen a better location to park the car for the walk-around than to have an electrical substation, long grass and weeds in the background? Also, the in-car shots all feature the shop awnings and signage of Fyshwick - not very classy. Having been a wedding photographer, I know not to take photos of the bridal party next to the garbage bins around the back of the reception hall.
      Maybe you were constrained by time or distance you could travel in order to put the video together, but there are a number of great locations around Canberra. Personally, I would have headed down to the Cotter. It would have been a great drive in a 718 if nothing else. All that aside, I like what you do - even in those shorts.

    I will take delivery of my 718 in 2 monrhs' time. I strongly recommend to not opt for the sports exaust. It's too loud and in case it will fall victom to rust it'll cost you 3 grand to get it fixed. Other than that I went for all available options except for the sports chrono. Why ruin my PDK with 0-60mph drags when average speed on our Autobahn is between 100 and 150mph? Note that stock exaust at 150+ is louuuuud! By the way, Ive never seen someone test driving while still wearing his swim suit ... lol

    Shouldn't have traded my flat six Boxster for this Subaru imitation. I miss having a real engine.

  • @CalebJNelson
    @CalebJNelson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regardless of the engine, the handling characteristics of the chassis are relatively boring. I’ve owned a 986 Boxster. And they haven’t changed so much that my perception is inaccurate in that regard. If Porsche made them less stiff, like the Alpine, it could be quite interesting. But as it is, it is boring relative to cars such as the M2 Competition and the 911.
    Then, factor in the engine, the sound and lack of smoothness due to it having only 4 cylinders, and the rev limit due to the turbos.

  • @robertking7584

    • @discovercars
      @discovercars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have to agree, older Boxsters such as yours had terrible autos, but In more recent Porsche models, PDK is the strongest case against the manuals yet! Don’t get me wrong, I daily a manual, but I wouldn’t be dismissing PDK that quick unless you’ve driven it.
