  • Tim takes the Porsche Boxster T for a drive and tries to find out if the new flat-four cylinder turbocharged engine is really as bad as people make out. (Hint - it isn’t).
    With the Boxster T, Porsche has tried to create a pure drivers car, with all the best options for handling and sound thrown in along with a couple of choice options to make it lighter.
    So has Porsche created a back road weapon or is it just a parts bin exercise? Tim finds out...

    Great, refreshing video, thank you! I LOVE the sound of the 4 cyl and also, it is quite lighter than the flat 6 in GTS 4.0 which makes the T even more pure

      Danny 200MPH own the Cayman version. Growls at idle and roars under full throttle. Almost bought a used flat six after reading all the comments on TH-cam. Went and drove both and the 718 just feels faster. The sound issue is a non issue, the flat 4 turbo is the better performance car.

    the 718 is an incredible car, specifically the 718 Cayman GTS. unbelievable speed, handling, usability, practicality, and looks. very good buys those cars. also finally enough power to really make use out the phenomenal chassis

      Thomas Bob agreed. I recently picked up the 718 Boxster GTS with pdk and a loaded 987.1 Cayman S with manual and this duo is mind blowing good. The performance of both cars is so satisfying, but I must say the 718 is just buttery smooth at everything,
      and the cayman is just roaring to go at all times. These are keepers.

    Great review Tim. You mentioned the optional extras of the car but not the total price of them. I find this is the biggest headache with Porsche. You can win a Boxster T with BOTB and spend the majority of your £20,000 if you tick the box for it on options. And this is from a Porsche nut. I think I'd be more inclined to look at an Alpine A110 instead as a result.

    • @BOTBreviews
      @BOTBreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Porsche made a statement in 2009 saying that they don’t care how it is pronounced. In Germany it is Porsch-uh, but in other places it could be Porsh. Just like most don’t say they’re going to ‘Par-eee’, they say Paris. You don’t need to pronounce a word the same as the mother language.

    I purchased my 3rd porsche August 2019, a 718 Boxster T And I absolutely love it :) However I will say that I am slightly disappointed with the engine performance! When I put my foot down on the accelerator there is a delayed reaction before the car actually reacts..which can be dangerous if at a roundabout for example and you put your foot down thinking you are going to accelerate in time BUT you dont due to the delayed reaction...Something I think Porsche really needs to address!
    Great review and I think I recognise the location, is it at Farmoor reservoir?

    • @BOTBreviews

      Turbo = lag.

    • @V1RT8
      @V1RT8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, there is a lag, especially when pushing on the throttle at low speed and low rpm. It’s less noticeable on the 2.5 liters, due to better turbo blades engineering.

    I like this model more than the standard one, but I don't know if maybe it is too low.Thinking about the elevated zebra crossings, or the uneven parking entrances, I'm worried about hitting the bumper spoilers everywhere. Are those shorter springs a problem for common daily use?

    I don't mind the sound at all. Though I still prefer the 981 with its flat 6(sound wise), this 718's engine kinda sounds good for me.
    But I would pretty much disagree with you that you can't compare the sounds of the two. You can always compare and choose whos better for you. Plus your supporting argument on that doesn't really make sense. But great review anyways..

      Sound in my opinion is a big part of the driving experience and the 718 in my opinion just sounds like a suburu... i have a 981 Cayman S with sports exhaust and sure it doesn’t have as much grunt lower down but tbh the sound is epic and people always always say how they love it’s sound. Sure in a drag race the 718 will be half second faster but I’d rather the sound any day :)

    • @Jay-xr3sb
      @Jay-xr3sb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@max99x it's not just the half second, the 2.5 has a usable and wide torque band.
      The 6 cylinder sounds great but off the track you rarely keep it in high revs to hear it scream or find the power.
      Fine for the odd trash but for touring a momentum driving the 2.5 is amazing.
      Now a TTRS 2.5 5 cylinder in a cayman would be a dream
