    Hi I started using your picture profile for HLG3 (haven't posted vids yet) but it is INSANELY Cinematic. Thank you for an HLG3 guide!! Vloggers always say don't use it but it is easily the best profile and the one I have been looking for.

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      DUDE YES!!! I can't wait to see it make sure to share it with me! If you want it to not as cinematic I tell everyone to drop the black level lower but I think between +5-+10 gives you a filmic look +5 is more of an overall profile setting!

    I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the structuring of your videos with the introduction and the segment chapters. Finally tutorials that are also pedagogical. You make it clear what viewers are going to get if they watch your full video. Makes it so easy to get what I need and come back to it rather than hanging out in the hope to get something useful ...like other VLOGers. So many hours of wasted watch time. Something so simple makes such a big difference. That is why i subscribed which I do rarely. I know what I am going to get right from the start. Thank you.

    Hey Jason! I LOVE the look of my videos now that I've followed your tips! I will say though, as someone who is brand new to color grading and correcting, I could not for the life of me figure out why my exported videos looked awful. Couple hours later I realized all I had to do was change my sequence setting to Rec.709. A friendly tip for the fellow color newbies!

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bro! Glad to hear the profile is working out, I totally get you on the issue with the sequence setting. See every NLE (editing software) is different and most automatically export out as rec709 as their base setting for color management. I'll keep this in mind tho!

    It's so good to have correct colors and Paul Leeming's LUTs are the best corrective LUTs out there. I'm using HLG w/ rec.2020, though I'm considering going to Cine2, w/ the A7III, due to it's 8 bit 4:2:0 limitations.

      I'm Jason Anthony most def man. I do have one question. I recently just got A7III and went out to shoot the past weekend. I set up my recording settings almost identical to yours from another video.
      Recorded my B-Roll in 120fps.
      But today when i went to import the footage into Final Cut ProX, in the inspector it’s showing 60fps. When I’m in my 2nd movie mode that i have set up for 120fps it shows that. So my question is, could i possibly just have my settings wrong and i was actually shooting in 60fps?? Or is it in 120, but editing softwares only show up to 60?

    Hi Jason, I'm not sure if you'll read this, but here it goes. I use an A7 III andI have a doubt regarding your suggestion to use -7 in the Detail section. I've done several trials (both for RAW photos and 4k video), and seem to get better results with the in camera sharpening (= 0) rather than applying sharpening in post with the "unsharp mask" on Premiere. I simply get more noise when I try to add sharpening in Premiere, and I'm really trying to be delicate... have you found a more notorious diference? It just makes me wonder if it's just easier to leave the in camera sharpening and then not worry about it later, but since you and other experts recommend it, I wonder if maybe i'm missing something...
    Keep up the good content. I love what you're doing!

    Hi , great video, i bought the leeming HLG picture profile for Sony, and had some doubts in how to use it, use HLG or HLG3, Change setting like you do (black level etc), so i talk direct to Paul Leeming the creator of leeming lut, he said: "HLG and HLG3 have identical dynamic range. I have a post here somewhere showing it. Stick with HLG as that's what I built the LUT around. HLG3 is HLG with +10 saturation, that's all."
    When you buy the luts, for sure you receive a PDF with the Sony camera setting that you have to do to best use this picture profile, the black level ,that is 0, the saturation +15 etc etc.
    Please Confirm
    (I'm Jason Anthony)

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      john radon well here’s the thing John Paul’s settings are directly towards his style of filmmaking which is documentaries, he tries to get everything grade wise done in camera and once you use his lut not much from there. I like a cinematic style and personally felt his saturation was way too much. For my style the settings I use tend to work best. I’d say put both in your camera and do comparisons and see which you prefer!

    • @4wdflying
      @4wdflying 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The LUTs mentioned in this video are the v601 Leeming LUTs and it works pretty nicely as shown here, they have been updated since then and you would be best to try Paul Leeming's recommended settings or perhaps request the previous 601 version.

    DOPE VID bro. I've been struggling to shoot properly and grade well SLOG2. Hopped over to CINE4 to get a bit more ease, but honestly, since I'm not a pro, I find myself always missing the in camera settings - like exposure. Shooting real estate (I'm the agent too) we're dealing with dark espresso kitchens and bright windows - and trying to nail the shot while retaining data and low noise is difficult. So, do you think HLG3 is a good option? How's the lowlight? Awesome content as always.

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still dialing in the low light with this. For me the gym scenes I had to shoot between ISO 1600-3200 and some footage did have some noise in it. I think as videographers we have to position our talent with as good of ambient lighting as possible to help fight it ya know. The shots I had my subjects under the gym lights at say ISO 2000 looked better and cleaner than ISO 2000 in a dark space.

    Ahhh finally it's out!! Thanks Jason. Hope you're feeling better as well! I have a question. How is the HLG3 with noise in low light/night time shooting? I've had experiences where I get noise when shooting with HLG3 with f2.8.

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha it took time bro I need different clips in different situations. Try exposing for the shadows a little bit more, dont completely blow out your highlights but try and lift the shadows a tad!

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Md Towhidul Islam agreed bro also, sometimes you will notice color noise especially if you shoot wide open and the background is super shallow like at f1.4-2.8. That’s normal tho, you see it in movies and tv shows also. Color noise and noise from lack of light are different. Sometimes we can just do our best to prevent it but do what we have to do with certain situations.

    • @Houstnwehavuhoh
      @Houstnwehavuhoh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ImJasonAnthony Wow answered a question I wasn't even asking. Was having issues with some shots I was working on where, regardless of my grade, or LUTs, or even trying to be subtle, I was encountering color noise in the background that was driving me up a wall (shot at f1.8-f2). Tried neat video and over things to minimize it and was struggling. Thought I was using quirky LUTs or just over-saturating. Ended up masking the subject and de-saturating the background (which was unfortunate as it was a beach) and that seemed to put me more at ease, but nonetheless.
      I have a lot of fast lenses and try to shoot pretty open (as I can't always use a long lens for that bokeh/compression), are there any tips to minimizing potential color noise shooting pretty open?

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jarrett I too have noticed color noise, if you look at my promo video I did using HLG3 after this video you can notice it in a few shots as well. It’s the codec most likely, I get color noise in slog2 and cine4 at times. Know it’s nothing you’re doing it’s the profile, there’s a difference between noise caused by low light and color noise. You probably already know this you seem well versed in profiles, settings, and premiere. I sometimes too will use masks and such. At the end of the day we can’t be too critical, it’s hard for us when we’re surrounded by awesome content created by others. If you take a deeper look into the bigger guys films you’ll notice a ton of imperfections. I think they’re just well versed is keeping the audiences attention away from those imperfections with strong impactful footage and others using those hype transitions everyone loves haha. Keep it up I’d love to see your work bro!

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jarrett as far as color noise like you mentioned it seems to be more noticeable the wider your open! I’m really not sure how to reduce it and now you have my brain thinking haha I’ll share anything I find, link up on Instagram so we can stay in contact and share what findings we get👊🏻💨

    Very good. You are a great teacher. I recently bought a Sony a7iii and a6400. It has been 18 years since I was in photography. Cameras had no video then and the tech was easy. Now I am overwhelmed and do not know where to start. I started by going out filming on Auto. Day was overcaste. color turned out too fake. Greens were too vibrantly fake. I suppose I have to find a few settings I like and put them on Custom buttons to save time. What do you think?
    I do like some saturation but not obviously fake. I have to learn how to adjust in post. I have the Corel software.

    Hi! I have been using HLG for most of my videos using the Leeming LUT, but after watching your video, I am gonna try your HLG3 Settings! One thing I noticed while shooting HLG is that you need to overexpose by a bit (+0.7 - 1.0), otherwise there will be some noises. I will let u know my thoughts of your profile after using it in the next shoot! Anyway, keep up the good work bro! Subscibed!

    I have a Sony Alpha 7S III and everybody under the sun kept talking about how S Log 3 was the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe if you shoot weddings with a zoom lens, but not if your shooting indoors with a 50mm prime lens at night it's not. In order for me to get a workable depth of field with my Zeiss CP.3 50MM T2.1 lens, I have to close the iris down to T5.6. I use two GVM RGB 50W Full Color Studio Video Lights and a Aputure B7C smart light bulb at full blast at 5600 degrees Kelvin to light my subject and in order for me to get the image two stops over exposed and keep my T stop at 5.6 I have to crank up the ISO to 40,000. S log 3 is not for my needs, and shooting ProRes Raw on a Ninja V burns way too much storage, so HLG3 it is for me.

      On the siii I personally love the new slog3. I totally understand your case using that specific picture profile for situations you find yourself with lower light shooting interiors. For something like your situation have you tried cinetone yet?

    Thanks for this video, really helped, between your good self and Gerald Undone it helped me make a decision on how to extract the best dynamic range out of the sony a73/r3 and indeed help match the footage between them with HLG3 to get the consistency across the two cameras whilst not having the nightmare of grading s-log and dealing with exposure and noice in varying circumstances. A big thumbs up!

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just like photos Justin, you have to let more light in so being with video we have a fixed shutter speed we can rely on a variable ND filter to allow more light, the fstop, and lastly ISO which is never recommended unless you absolutely have to!

    It's weird how your hlg settings aren't what are recommended with the Luts, howcome? You're not going to get quite the same accurate baseline. I'm sure it doesn't matter though!

Have you tried it with Color Mode Rec709? Thanks for this vid!

      Hey bro this isnt the best for low light I just use a standard pp2 for low light seems to have the least noise when I crank the ISO. It's all situational tho with how low the lighting is.

    I've had issues with noise in the blacks and shadows. Even with shooting at like a very low ISO and meeting the min for HLG. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's getting annoying as I think I'm exposing correctly, then when I get to colour correct and grade and there's a ton of noise in the blacks. For example, your hoody in this video would have noise in mine. Any help would be grateful, keep the videos coming!

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like you're not exposing properly, I've never had noise but have a lot of experience with log. You need to expose for the shadows and make sure they are lifted off the left side of the histogram. If you're shooting a scene with good lighting should be at +.07 on your EV meter and be fine brother.

      hey, Ultimate Hockey Fan Cave did you resolve your issue with noise in HLG profile? I have the same issue with noise. I'm exposing correctly.
