- This reflection on addiction is in three parts:
1. What is addiction?
2. What causes addiction?
3. How do we respond to an addict?
4. A religious conversion works

I had no idea what to think when I saw the thumbnail and title but gave the video a chance anyways. great video, appreciate your perspective on addiction
Thanks for your comment. I have no idea what this rusty heap is either, but I figured it would make a good eye catcher! It also provided some much needed shade for my recording! I think my part 4 on a 'mystical experience', is so often ignored. It seems to me that anything that can realign our personality may well be the key we need. Thanks for coming on the journey with me today.
The lack of bonding to something good makes me lament. I’m thinking of children or adults and the common addiction to screens even in my own life. I feel it’s so tragic to see addictions even in a loving home filled with rich relationship and connection opportunities. I would love to share this with loved ones, but from past experiences it falls on deaf ears as if the relationships mean far less to them than their addiction.
@@lindseyfuchs1623 I agree but in reality I think that relationships trump the addiction when the chips are down despite the daily reality of the parent or the child suffering rejection in the moment. Let's keep on spreading the possibility of bonding to 'something good'.
Excuse my extreme views on many topics, but I would propose that there is no such thing as "addiction". All humans make choices all the time. Are we just judging another persons choices as an addiction because it is just harmful or what we consider excessive? Is craving and choosing high calory foods also an addiction? This video describes well the reasons why we all make choices that are driven by many factors e.g. Lack of bonding to something good or escaping from suffering or just being lazy. My views are shaped by someone I know well that gave up both excessive drinking and smoking just by making better choices for good reasons.
David, thank you for the out-of-the-box view. I guess not all addicts would say they are addicts, but most observers of addicts would describe (judge) them to be addicts. Then again when does a habit, interest, passion for something, cross the line and become an addiction? You also suggest (from your acquaintance' experience) that quitting can be as simple as a 'change of mind'. When all is said and done, I am keen to explore the topic and I am seeking to encourage others to explore the topic from fresh eyes, rather than keep repeating old well traveled ways of thinking.
