- A 4-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after a freak lawn mower accident nearly cut his young life short. Joey Marsico was playing in the yard as his grandfather was mowing the lawn. Marisco came behind the lawn mower. He was airlifted from his home in New York to Boston Children's Hospital. Doctors had no choice but to amputate his right foot. Inside Edition's Alison Hall spoke with home safety expert Jason Cameron, who says adults need to stay alert.
Grandpa is never gonna fully forgive himself😢
@traybernit wasn’t on purpose if it was that would be attempted murder but the grandad didn’t do it on purpose (let’s hope)
Literally ruined that child’s life forever, he should feel bad and shouldn’t have access to any heavy machinery.
@TheSureBlock Literally did not ruin his life. Altered it sure, but to say he ruined his life cause he's missing a foot is idiotic.
@traybern its called an freak accident for a reason.
@@Sophia_thecatgirl Doesn't matter, Strict Liability Law says otherwise. To sum it up, even though he accidentally amputated his grandson's foot off, he can still be charged with the same crime as if he did it on purpose. However, there is a chance for the punishment to be less than the actual crime as it was accidental.
That's insane, imagine getting your leg amputated for something as traumatising as that. He is a true warrior.
Poor little guy, but when im using the lawnmower i dont want ANYONE anywhere near me
That's the rule. Don't mow with kids around. Keep them inside
Hope Grandpa can forgive himself for this accident. Little boy is at such a young age that he will adapt quickly to this way of life.
This is why children should go absolutely nowhere near lawn mowers. Safety always should be number 1.
I’m always around lawn mowers
We used to help in my childhood. I think the problem was a lack of education surrounding safety with lawn maintenance equipments.
can’t fully blame grandpa for this. both grandma and grandpa were in the wrong
“I’m sorry papa.” Poor baby!
Even though it was papa fault. The old grandpa should be apologizing. Don't have kids out when you mowing when you know you can't see that good.
@@mommyissueand don't pop out of nowhere in front of a lawnmower
@mommyissue It's hard to hear when the mower is running and if the kid ran up from behind the grandpa probably never saw him. It was an accident and why kids should be watched by another adult carefully when the lawn is mowed.

10k/year injured in lawnmower accidents? 😳
It's a clown planet
It's the American way
Amazing what pops into a child’s pure mind! “Im sorry papa”!
The solution is simple. Keep the kids in the house when mowing the lawn.
Or, how about keeping your child inside of the house until the lawn work is complete?? It’s a shame that this young man’s life changed but am so greatful that he’s alive and has a strong support system. I also feel bad for grandpa as it’s incredibly difficult for him too. Family is in my prayers. 🙏
one mistake is all it takes. I'm sure you've made them too.
Come on! Don’t mow with kids playing.

Bit late for that
Literally never should have happened. Negligent behavior caused this.
@@hoodpriestessphilosophy exactly. How old is he?? And he never thought to make sure all the kids were inside?? When he knows he can't see well...
They should've care for kid and learn about safety before the accident.
But this should never happen. So preventable. Do better, parents.
You know what? I bet that kid is going to be a badass when hes back in school
I like to enjoy my beer while mowing... so yeah, no kids anywhere in the yard when that happens. Surprised that all my kids made it to adulthood with all their limbs given my own stupidity. Good on that boy, and his grandpa for not missing a beat and continuing to enjoy life despite the horrors encountered.
Keep the kids IN THE HOUSE, or somewhere not in the yard. My mother did our lawns front and back and all 3 of us were told to stay IN THE HOUSE while the machinery was running to mow the lawn.
Poor kid. Wishing him the best!
I’m gonna show this to my parents so i don’t gotta mow no more
Lawn mowers have warnings on them that say specifically to keep your kids inside while mowing
I feel bad for him. Hope he gets better soon

What you should do is before you start mowing tell you kids to go inside and stay inside until you’re done mowing hard for them to get hurt by the lawnmower if they’re inside
Poor little boy. I'm glad he's in good spirits. I can't imagine going through something that traumatic.
Oh you will. Trust me.
10,000 kids a year?! I was not expecting a number that high.
I hope the little guy heals fast he can be fitted with a prosthetic. And his grandfathers soul heals, accidents do happen. I wish this family the best.
My dad lost half of 2 finger on his right hand in 2009😢 but he has no
problems with it. GOOD LUCK JOEY we love you❤❤❤
What a cute and brave little boy!!! He will get over this and accomplish all his dreams. God bless him and his family💖
Oh look, they spoke to a lawn-mower expert.
🤣🤣🤣

No, it's .... And get this; they spoke to a lawnmower expert.
He answered the Indeed post 😂
Yep hmm sip 😂
why was he outside? :( this happens all too often 💔 Glad he is alive
That wasn’t a freak accident that was irresponsibility. The grandfather should be charged with reckless child endangerment.
Would have to disagree to that.
I think he has paid enough. He won't ever forgive himself. He has to live with this
uhm, no he shouldn’t? if he doesn’t forgive himself then why would he need to be charged with reckless child endangerment if he *ACCIDENTALLY* caught his foot, even his grandson forgave him and don’t use the excuse of saying “he’s too young to understand” because he is old enough to understand that his granddad didn’t mean to catch his foot, don’t be daft man
Don’t blame yourself grandpa😭 Things like that happen but the world is a safer place because of this story😢
Its really not. I'm 35 and have a friend that had this exact same thing happen to her. The only lesson to be learned of this is do not mow if you do not know that someone is watching the child and also maybe don't let Papa drive the lawn mower anymore.
@@MaikiThePrince it’s the parents fault for not keeping the child inside
@@handlesshouldntdefaulttonames I wouldn’t say that tho
@@UrFavoriteFurry400 It could’ve been but children can be tricky😭
@@MaikiThePrince I agree that it's a complicated situation, but that a lot of the risk can be mitigated by not allowing grandpa to mow anymore.
Wow this little boy has a big heart .! U can tell he gets lots of love from his family !
That sweet boy. Hes very strong and brave and will overcome this no problem
That kid’s gonna need a prosthetic leg.
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Just the foot, and luckily, he's young enough that he won't miss his foot too much. I knew a guy in trade school who lost his leg when he was a toddler in a housefire. It didn't bother him very much, though, he usually just used the fact that his leg comes off for pranks and jokes.
The kid will be fine.
....... which is what they said in the video, if you paid attention

Inside edition brings in more "experts" than Pawn Stars.
Kid is a warrior. Also I don’t wanna necessarily blame Grandpa, cause little Joey suddenly ran out behind grandpa. It’s a shame that accident happened, but most Importantly everyone is alive
PUT SHEILDS ON LAWNMOWER PUT MIRROR ON LAWNMOWER LIKE CARS
Not enough! Make lawn mowing illegal.
@@dentalnovember people will still lawn mow, thats the problem. It'll become underground and then the mafia will get involved
@@NelsonVanDwellerThis reply section is gold
@@dentalnovember And what's the point of making mowing the lawn illegal? Do you want seed ticks crawling up you're legs after touching large blades of grass?
@DRNYTPS use scissors
This also applies with animals, they need to be inside when a power mower is being used. Especially dogs recently my next door neighbor was being mowed, I was over there her dog was walking around on a section of lawn, I went down, called out "Mo, come here" come on" and put him inside the house.
As a kid who lives across the street from 5 kids under 10. Im ALWAYS looking when im mowing. Even when I have music on im looking around because if you take your eyes away for 1 second. EVERYTHING could change
He is alive and not paralyzed. Great..Big hug..
They just let him play while running a giant death machine
When I was a kid, I used to go outside when my dad was mowing the lawn, nothing never happened. Don’t try to blame the grandparents.
@@Whipcream133 it’s definitely the grandparents fault. Who else can u blame? The kid is a kid……the parents left the kid with the grandparents. By process of elimination……grandparents fault
@@cliffvoelker9276 Now tell me how is it the grandparents fault?
Let me say. You can't let kids play outside when Someone is mowing the lawn.. It's dangerous. Kids must stay inside until mowing lawn is finished.

Breaks my heart when the poor boy apologies for his grandfather's mistake.
Papa is never gonna be the same oh poor family 😢❤❤ thank god they still love him & let him around 😢
😢 poor little guy. What a sweetheart
Poor kid, god please bless him & his family ❤
My ride on S120 John deer mower has a button where if you have the mower engaged and you want to reverse you need to press a button so that way you dont accidently reverse. But it also makes it so your not distracted or zoning out.
I have a John Deere mower that does the same. The button makes no difference I still zone out while reversing or doing whatever. I just now, without thinking about it, press the button when I'm hitting reverse.
Its irresponsibility which almost led to a life-costing lesson
I hope he recovers quickly and successfully. Poor boy. 😢🌻🌸
1:18 don’t put your feet under a lawn mower and watch your kids
Im happy he is still alive ❤
Just a Rock being thrown out of mower is enough of a reason to not have kids ANYWHERE near one mowing even with a Push mower.
I was single mom of 2 young kids after a divorrce. When i mowed.. they stayed inside..
Hate this family learned the hard way. Glad it wasnt worse.
That's not a "freak accident" period. That man was not paying attention and almost killed that child.
I'm very glad he's ok💕💕💕
I wouldn’t consider this a “freak accident” sounds like it happens a lot. Common sense goes a long way.
Sounds like grandma should have been watching him a little more closely or maybe grandpa should have waited until his grandson wasn’t there to mow his lawn 🥱
Yes, hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?!
Now he can get a robot foot
That’s scary! And yet he’s still smiling
Poor boy😔
We just had an accident like this happen in a Daycare in our town. Saddest story ever!
Best wishes Buddy ❤
This is VERY PREVENTABLE
Glad the little guy is taking it well
Strong little boy ❤
May God bless the boy!
I was gonna say about lawn mowers! Our neighbors with their son who was like 2 or 3 at the time was doing stupid stuff with the drive on lawn mower. Trying to disassemble it as well as getting on it trying to start it up. Dad was nose in his phone. -_-
This made me cry😢
This story is very similar to an episode I saw on Rescue 911 back in the 90s where a little boy also lost his foot to a lawn mower accident. Used to be so terrified of lawn mowers back then as a kid, but it's actually not from watching that episode.
Do NOT blame his granddad because it is freak accident! There is NO crimes or punishment. That boy should know best to not near his grandad when he worked on mow. My grandfather was lawn mower at the farm and he wear an earmuffs that can’t hear me if I was close to him. But I know best to stay away from danger I was taught from my mom.

There’s that doctor in Tampa Bay who did Winter the Dolphin’s special tail. Joey’s soul buddy
That poor kid...and that poor old man, this day's going to haunt him for a long long time...
*sighs* This is why we're told to play safe and not go near machines or into off limits areas...thanks for telling me that from day one, War Amps..
Please, just keep your children inside when someone's mowing the lawn, give them ice cream...let them play a video game or use an iPad or smartphone...just keep them inside and out of the way...
Thank goodness he’s okay 👌
Hope he gets better soon. I feel kind of bad for him.
What an unfortunate accident. I hate mowing.
Who was supposed to be watching him? Grandpa was mowing. The boy could have drowned in the pool with no one watching him. He's lucky he's still here at all.
Poor grandpa, he must not have known his grandson was all alone there. 😢 It isn't his fault. 💔
Not just kids. Pets and adults too. I always stop when someone gets really close to my rider.
A month in the hospital? Sounds like the hospital tried to save his legs for weeks but realized it was not possible and then amputated and was discharged probably days afterwards.
I wonder if the grandfather was on the moms or dads side
@@Baba_Yaga_123 why does that matter
@@UrFavoriteFurry400 why does it not matter?
My little brother fell underneath a riding mower. I was on the mower. First thing he said to our mother was “ it’s not bubba’s fault, I was playing around the mower.” He lost both heels and a big toe. Walks on this heels and now is an EMT with a house and wife. He adapted and played football. Of course I still blame myself to this day 20yrs later.
Just keep you distance from the mower its that simple
Horrible grandparents! Seriously,,,he couldn’t watch around his mower while operating it? What a tragedy!
Isnt that child neglect and child abuse neither the parents and grandparents were watching the kid
Exactly! At this point helicopter parenting is a better alternative to no proper parenting at all…
The parents were probably working. Stop having a go at them
Why would you assume neglect and abuse based on a single incident.
No is simply called an "accident" stop using words that you don't even know the meaning of them
