- California musicians Alex and Justina Lucero were hired to perform in Maui, Hawaii. On their day off, they rented a car to explore a popular tourist attraction. The couple was driving when suddenly a truck approached from behind. They say the armed truck driver carjacked them. To get away from the gunman who allegedly stalked them, they unknowingly climbed Maui's Haleakala volcano. Inside Edition's Jim Moret has more.

Arrested for carjacking. This man HUNTED human beings! WHY was he given any chance at Bond? I seriously hope that the people responsible for this debacle don't sleep until they fix this.

The road to Hana is also known as “The Road to Nausea.” The curving back and forth can make you sick.
Back about 20 years ago, tourists were not allowed to take rental cars down the back road of Hana (which is clearly where they were). But maybe things have changed.

@@SalveRegina8 yeah that area is pretty sketchy. Even as a local born and raised on the islands, you have to be aware. It is in rental car policies that the road pass Hana in Kipahulu and all the way to Kaupo and onto Ulupalakua is not allowed because of how scary the road is there, poor cell reception and some locals who hate tourist.
They aired another story if him doing the same thing to another couple that were tourists. He had a whole gang too, but he was the only one arrested apparently.

My parents hiked from the top to the bottom years ago. It's all volcanic debris. That means it cuts like glass. They had to bring two sets of hiking shoes because the shoes were destroyed by the time they were done.
I don't know how those people managed it, but glad they did.

I was on that road in 2022 when I went to Maui with my gf. I always remember thinking how tight and narrow the roads were and how it would be bad if something were to happen because your gps and phone service usually quits working when your out there because of the mountains.
This story seemed too bizarre to be true, until the part where they caught the guy.

Crime is getting worse in Hawaii. It’s definitely being under reported. The local officials don’t want to scare tourists.
I used to go to a Dentist near China Town in Downtown Honolulu for many years. They have great staff that I liked. I never felt any danger in that area until the last couple years I went there. There were always homeless people but they never bothered anyone, they would just be sleeping in a park near the underground parking lot I parked my car. But the last couple of years, weird people were hanging out at the park. Probably on drugs. The atmosphere has changed. It’s not safe anymore.

Some bright young movie producer out there should produce a “Deliverance II” that takes place on Maui and features a bunch of local yokels chasing visitors through the mountains and forests in old beat up pickup trucks and yapping away in pidgin english. The title of the movie could be “Deliverance II: Hawaii No Ka O’ Here” - which is a takeoff on “Hawaii No Ka O’i” 😂
He probably had an accomplice to drive the other vehicle.

The initial intro is misleading, but basically what happens is he jacked them for their car, and then later decided that he didn't want to leave them as witnesses, so he decided to go back and get rid of them.

I would love to see a map that traces their escape. At first I thought it was just journalistic wordplay, but it's confirmed that they hiked to the TOP of Haleakala. I've hiked a lot around Maui and Haleakala, and it's absolutely amazing that they made such a hike. I'd like to see anyone else do it. Coming down the mountain is hard enough. Hiking to the TOP is something I've never heard of. Not saying it's impossible, just very, very hard.

Pleading not guilty initially is actually fairly standard procedure recommended by attorneys. The courts eventually decide the verdict.

Hawaii is probably one of the most restrictive states when it comes to gun laws.Even though they technically allow concealed carry, they signed a law last year that pretty much makes it impossible to carry a gun to defend yourself.
