    Thankfully not as bad as the ones in the Midwest the EF4s or EF5s … I live in NJ and we have seen our share of tornado damage… I hope they rebuild those areas safe as in the Midwest for hurricanes too 🙏🏻

      These are very old and protected sea oak trees. Their destruction is devastating to Vero Beach. They are a halmark of old vero beach and don’t exist in many places anymore. They are irreplaceable!
      It’s very sad we lost a lot of them through these multiple tornadoes yesterday.

      I know it seems like that would be the case, but this area and those trees are different. The sea oak trees are over a hundred years old and have sustained many hurricanes. The unique problem with this storm was the unprecedented number and strength of tornadoes that whipped through. We’ve never experienced anything like that. In actuality, the trees probably protect the houses from severe weather in normal circumstances. It’s sad to see so many gone.
