      @@ArtofLunatik it's crazy how 20 years ago 8 year old me thought wow this is a good game, then 5 years later wow this is a good story too, then 15 years later, wait this story has so much depth to it, every little detail has some more overt reason to it. Every sentence, every action, every music cue, every item in the game. Literally everything has some sort of wider meaning to it. It's crazy beyond belief how insanely deep this game is!! If this was a movie it would be studied by every film theory class. Books would he written about it.

      When i would tell people that this is my favorite mgs they would always complain that Raiden was such a pussy it ruined the game for them. That was when i was like 15 yo. Good to know that Kojima and his team really made something for the ages.

      After completing film school and understanding film theory. Semiotics, auteur theory, marxism, cognitive, screen theory, etc. It gives this piece of an art a whole new meaning and appreciation. It is truly a masterpiece that I believe everyone, not just game fans, but even film writers should look at and study this game. It is a true masterpiece, unfortunately, I feel we will never get a chance to see a game with this much depth ever again. The attention span of gamers these days just does not warrant a game of this depth and creativity.

    Thank you. I love this sort of content, dissecting what each game is actually hiding beneath its story.
    I fell in love with the MGS series since the PS1 original came out. My dad bought it, but didn't play it as much, i chanced upon it and i immediately fell in love with its story and gameplay. Bear in mind, i was 10 when i first played it 2000, so i got scared with certain segments of it.
    MGS also got me into reading as i got hooked with its story, i actually had to read encyclopedias and books about war and history of war, politics, humanity's role in war, and psychological aspects to it. It made me into that kid with weird reading lists but i paid no mind. I saved my allowance to buy MGS2 and PS2 when it came out and boy was it a treat.
    Now, almost 30, i still am learning more things about this game. Thank you..

    Another analytical masterpiece Jorin. Sometimes gamers feel as though they should sit back and simply enjoy the show and move on but you're doing a service in reminding us that that we truly can pay for more than just the on the nose entertainment, That we've also purchased deep philosophical and symbolic works of expression. Some games you truly have to revisit with an older and more mature mind. I played this game dozens of times as a child but not until replaying as an adult does the themes begin to become relevant and apparent. Good work. About to replay Metal Gear Solid 3 soon so i look forward to your electronic accompaniment.

    That wiggling higher pitch sound embedded into the soundtrack is such a genius detail on the composers part. It doesnt start until you hit the shell and it follows you around the facility, even in boss battles, eventually moving into the main part of the audio track when you get into arsenal gear.
    Only when you're under the control of the A.I. and it slips in and out of the music until its part of the narrative where it becomes the one of the main instruments. To me that sound IS the AI. Following you around, staying in the shadows, and laughing at you the whole time

    Hey man, I just recently discovered you through your MGS4 retrospective. I love how deep you've dove in your research and correlations between reality and virtual, and funnily enough, made that virtual world feel all the more real. This is such a great retrospective, usually people cover the social and media contexts of MGS2 and tend to skip over or do a shallow cover of the militaristic and political parallels but you've covered info I never even really thought of. Contextualizing the simulation as a nightmare, or somewhere between reality and unreality is something that other video essayists have tackled but I really dig your interpretations. Seriously, I feel like I can fall in love with series over and over again, and MGS2 in particular has such a special place in my heart as an adult. Anyway, enough pretentious rambling on my end. Keep up the great work, hope to see more from you.

    Every single video you make is incredible and is a delight to watch. I’ve always seen these games passed their surfaces, but I am in no way sophisticated enough to express my thoughts in such an intellectual and easily digestible manner.
    You are without a doubt my favorite content creator on the internet.
    _...in any case,_ a would greatly desire to see a same style essay on _The Matrix_ films, or at the very least, a MGS2/5 introspective on the relationships of these characters and their realities. It wouldn’t be difficult to draw some connections of these two postmodern, reality lacking, memetic masterpieces.

    you know - id love to hear your input on this one...
    i was thinking about it earlier during video when considering symmetry and mimicry in symbols and having multiple meanings
    but then you bring up an interesting point at 47:20 that helps my thought
    Fortune wears her coat with her arms not in the sleeves. -making it look like she has 4 arms
    much like solidus snake has two arms coming off him as well.
    she is called "queen" - he is refered to as "king" -could these be Chess references?
    as they are the major players in the incident. while the rest are pawns.
    fortune is very hard to touch while solidus must have others provide a barrier to protect him

    I read that this game was card themed. To paraphrase them, they said Solidus is the King, Fortune was the Queen, Raiden = Jack. Snake or Vamp is the wild card, depending on how you look at it. Or was Farman the Joker and Snake the Ace, or something like that.

    MGS 2 might not be the most fun to play or the most technically perfect, but I think it's still the best use of the video game medium in order to get an idea across, and as Kojima intended, something that can truly only work as a video game, and no other medium. 31:46 Hang on that doesn't make sense. I know the Terrorists don't care about the Big Shell since it's just a mask for Arsenal Gear, but wouldn't they be thanking Raiden at this point in the story since Raiden isn't aware of that yet? For all we know that this point Fatman is one of the Terrorists, but we suspect he has other plans. I might be misremembering the order of these events, but it seems odd they'd be retaliating for dismantling bombs to that would sink them all. Raiden is doing it to save the sea from being contaminated so that makes sense, but Dead Cell's actions don't make sense to me at least at this point in the story.

    41:57 that's not how the codec works. You can clearly see in scenes in MGS4 that they aren't directly communicating from their thoughts.

    • @807D14M0ND5
      @807D14M0ND5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Having only played MGS2 thus far it wasn't clear to me how the codec works exactly. However I do remember the game mentioning something about bones WRT the codec calls.
      I thought this was referring to bone conduction headsets. It allows for audio that nobody else can hear but it is definitely still audio, not transmission of thoughts.
      Then again..they do use codec calls when standing standing next to each other to avoid being heard by others..

      @aisakataiga5200 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure there is a correct answer to whether or not it's their thoughts. I don't think it is, but there are several scenes that seem to imply it is silent like thoughts. Idk. I do know however that it's totally unnecessary to say what you said. I doubt you could make a video of this quality. We're only human and mistakes happen. Hell, someone may have told him it was their thoughts and so he thought it was right, which if anything plays into the misinformation theme even stronger. Furthermore, what does the length have to do with anything? Your logic is flawed, as if you believe a longer video should be more correct. If anything more content increases the odds of having a mistake. A totally forgivable mistake that's easy to make, and also does not affect the video's theme/message at all. So.... Who cares?

      @@mansreallysaid the controls are absolutely unlike anything a sane person would develop, you have to have like 3 hands to play mgs 2 and 3

      @@mansreallysaid Only thing I really stumbled with was when sticking to a wall and the camera changed, I wouldn't know which way to tilt the stick to move left/right along that wall.
      The sniper section was pretty easy with the pills to stabilize your aim.
