@@gloglogloyper7888 so a conversation in a game "destroyed your mind and changed your life" and you still havent played it yet? Imagine being this lazy.
"It took a while too realize this but nobody sees themselfs as the bad guy, everyone pretty much sees themselfs pretty much in the right." -Vince Gilligan who made breaking bad
This game series is seriously so deep people wouldn’t even understand it today. Kids wouldn’t even have the patience to sit through the cutscenes. Playing mgs1 at 8 opened my eyes to worldwide politics , war and economy at an age where it didn’t matter but still heavily interested me and I carried that into the future. These games definitely made me more intelligent
Not a hope could kids today grasp what this game is trying to convey. Especially since they're actually living through some of the concepts in the story. I was only 12 when this game dropped. I enjoyed every bit of it but I won't pretend that I understood it all. It was years later after going back to it and listening to some channels like this that I fully understood it. This channel is amazing at how they pick apart such complex things from these games. Which grants even more credit to Kojima for coming up with the concept to make a playable game of it.
These are amazing, keep it up! When I'm doing video dictation like this I use the stopwatch app and hit the lap timer when I flub a line, so I can go back to that point and overdub afterward without losing my momentum.
this video is so dense that i felt like it was 4 hours of it instead of 50 minutes, or maybe that's just me falling asleep and still trying to understand
I was seventeen when this game came out, and it was the entire reason I bought a PS2. I rank it up there with Terminator and Terminator 2 as to the reasons I give a wary eye to the use and abuse of technology.
Have this game been produced by an American, I bet it would be selected by the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States." because it just is. How ironic a Japanese know deeper about the problem of the US than most US population themselves.
MGS2 was the “Hollywood video game” MGSPW/MGSV was the prematurely canceled “Tv series/streamed series video game” forced into “reruns” MGSV always having credits for all the main players of the mission always came across to me as a tv series as opposed to Hollywood film type feel. I think Kojima said as much in an interview as well. Interesting idea!
because like the video stated, the quantity of the audience is manipulated by system with greater power, or drown out by rubbish videos, no decided by the quality of the product.
Funny story first time I beat mgs2 was a April 30th. When solidus asked if i knew what day it was on that day I didnt realize it actually was April 30th.
Completely separate but is there any chance you’ve already have made or would be willing to make a video about a comparison of MGS2 and MGSV’s similar themes and references and continuations of ideas etc
Just wanna mention I literally realized just the other day that the reason that 2 & V are so thematically symmetrical/linked is because 2+2=5... so yeah good stuff Kojima good stuff indeed.
BLACK MAN it’s a reference to Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, V is full of cool references to stuff like that. If you get a chance to play it, I hope you enjoy!
10:36 "The original sons of Liberty" but you just taught me in your other video about the Sons of Liberty that preceded the American revolution... Love the essays.
I just got an ad for an AI friend while watching this video. While not AI, this reminded me about the so called Russian bot situation that's happened in recent years, and seems to a parallel to this video speaking to "truths" and narrative.
Watched the previous parts of this serious of yours, not done with this one. I don't remember you saying Jack is what we as players use to literally "jack in" into the reality of the game. I wonder what you think of this idea. Do you think this is a worthy point?
It seems like the only solid truth is just raw quantifiable data. You then interpret that data and filter it through your own perspective and experiences which forms a narrative which is subjective because it's your own interpretation and is being expressed in language which is imperfect because it is loaded with context and connotations and can never perfectly mirror reality. The tao that can be spoken is not the true tao. Then add on top of that that our memories of our experiences are highly malleable and basically get rewritten every time we remember them, and the truth gets even fuzzier. It's not that there is no such thing as truth or reality. It's that the way you interpret the data and the meaning you take from it and the way you choose to express it in language are all subjective. Once you form narratives and meanings out of data, you can only reach a provisional "truth" that is only true within a certain context.
Still so much to unpack in a game from two decades ago. Truly a masterpiece. And where back then and even today most games are just games, this was a proper work of art.
I think it's both, that's where they learned it from evidently. EE has a line about how she and Hal would play doctor, and she's pretty in love with him
@@FuturasoundProductions She said they used to play "house" Hal pretended to be the husband and she pretended being the wife but I really don't think anything sexual was implied.

I truly cannot fathom how this channel consistently produces so many great, thought provoking video essays.

Thanks
Your channel is a goldmine. Thanks for the amazing content!

"How much do you think the Patriots control really extends?" _shows Shrek_ lmao
Thanks for teaching so much about ourselves in addition to MGS2. Amazing video :)
