What if the VRC7 was way better than it is? (Furnace tracker) [Read description]

  • Have you every wondered what if the VRC7 was better than it is? Well, i decided to make this little concept using furnace, i "enchanced" the VRC7 by adding 2 extra channels, stereo, multiple custom patches (there are the build in ones of course) and that's it. I hope you enjoy this kinda weird concept i made. (The magic behind it is 8 x VRC7 chips wich each one is used for one channel) also this shows a little bit how furnace looks like.

    I didn't expected that you would use 9x VRC7's to get a result like this.
    But good as always.😄👍🏻

    How did you get it to show names up to FM 9? I was expecting to see "FM 1" 9 times, not see numbers up to FM9... have you just done a hackjob of 9 YM2413 chips and took one channel from each and turned on custom patch mode?

    • @YgorG
      @YgorG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i can change the name of each channel

    • @YgorG
      @YgorG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also yes each VRC7 chip was used as 1 channel (it didn't work with 9 x YM2413 because of the 63 channel limitation that furnace has)

    • @kenshirotakahashi
      @kenshirotakahashi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YgorG That's right. You can only do up to 7 x YM2413, which coincidentally counts as 63 channels exactly.

    It's songs like this that make me wonder... will there ever be a video game making engine that will allow such amazing songs like this? I know NES Maker exists and all, but the songs there can't compare to the ones in Furnace Tracker. Not that they need to.

      Well, thanks to HD packs for NES games included as a feature in some emulators, we don’t have to worry about the limits of real hardware, since we can just play whatever music we want.
      Now, if you’re talking about doing this on actual hardware, then it’s going to be much harder, but still possible. It’d be very difficult, but you could potentially create a mapping chip that includes an OPL2 sound chip that could replicate the music you’re listening to here.

      @@8squared007 What makes it difficult to make a mapping chip that includes an OPL2 sound chip?

    • @8squared007
      @8squared007 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@maxthompson7107 Well…you need to make a mapping chip first. At the bare minimum, that would involve programming hypothetical new hardware for a 41 year old console, which is where a lot of the problems stem from.

      @@8squared007 So in short, unless you're a programming wiz, it's best to just stick with what Famitracker gives you.
      Eh, Famitracker has a lot of tools to work with anyway. We already have a version that allows you to use all 6 expansion chips.

    Ym2413 With Drum mode only 6 channels instruments in fm and 4 channel for drum mode. Ym2413 without that was 9 fm channels same as vcr7 as famicom.

    Nice VRC7 Furnace tune!😄🤩😎👌 How did you manage to get 9 channel and multiple custom patches, when the VRC7 doesn’t support any of those?

    • @YgorG
      @YgorG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i used 1 VRC7 for each voice since the VRC7 has only 6 channels i could have used 6 x VRC7 but i decided to use 9 x VRC7 for each voice instead plus furnace allows you to change the panning of each chip (each chip is doing one channel so each "channel" can have an different panning)

    • @YgorG
      @YgorG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lemme explain in a nutshell (easier to understand) so the VRC7 has 6 voices and it can produce only 1 custom patch at a time so if you have 2 x VRC7 chips each one can produce a cusom patch (2 at the same time one from the 1st VRC7 and the second from the 2nd VRC7) and since i wanted to have 9 channels i used 9 x VRC7 chips (one for each voice to get multiple custom patches and full stereo) (more easier to understand ig)
