I appreciate that you mentioned that heavily modded watches don't always translate to similar value on resale. I've seen a lot of loaded SKX's that don't sell for anything near what the owner went into it for.
People dont always trust that they are water resistant and/or as robust. For people who buy SKXs as beaters and watches to wear on holiday and in the sea/pool... I wouldnt want the risk that the bezel will fall off or the watch let's in water because someone has worked on it and not done a thorough job
It is amazing how Seiko consistently makes really good divers for the price and the modability is awesome - and you are so right about how the dimensions just don't describe how comfortably they wear. Thank you for another interesting video Rob :)
My current most expensive watch is a moded skx007 with oyster braclet, dd saph, lumed insert, I bought from Island Watch for under $500. The cool thing is I got all original parts back and plan on buying different bezel and swapping out. Great advice to start with entry level. I'm currently looking at a sarx055 for my next Seiko could eventually see myself interested in a MM and would love a Spring Drive.
I buy the SKX watches as my work watch i've killed a good few of them over the last few years the last one the spring bar popped out & it fell 200ft down the electricity pylon i was working on ( i think it hit nearly every bar on the way down ) at the time i got a few new one's at xmas their 2018 a skx007 ( my new work one ) / skx013 & strap code oyster bracelet & my grail one of 2018 the Seiko SLA019J1 limited edition ( forest green ) I'm looking at long island watches at the minute for one of their six your watch your way ?
I never had an SKX. But I used a BFK as a stepping stone to the SLA 021. Both great watches, and my chapter rings and bezels line up perfectly. Maybe I'm just lucky.
I agree as I have a stock 009, a 007 now with coke bezel / president bracelet, a 007 now with a Batman bezel / oyster bracelet & a 009 with a navy bezel / crafter blue navy rubber strap. I like the MM, but know I would never wear it as I have a submariner & a speedmaster.
My 009 gets less wrist time anymore it’s mainly my yard work watch now. However in its first year I wore it a ton. It went on probably at least a dozen dive outings, deepest about 60’. I’m a fairly avid diver, and I ne’er wanted for more than the SKX. It was always used in conjunction with a dive computer. The MM has never called to me...I like the looks, don’t care for the bracelet. Truth be told I dive with a citizen BN0150 anymore.
If you're going to do watch comparisons to the Seiko Marinemaster shouldn't you compare it to your Proxima? I would like to see The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the homage next to the real thing.
I just bought new srpb49k1 week ago for 400 euro from UK. I live in Ireland. I am wearing my SKX007 almost two years at work. My first Seiko purchase was SNK809 before SKX. Fanboy :)
Hey Rob, any chance to compare a Seiko MM300 against MM200 (baby marine master) vs the Seiko sumo? The case finishing is almost on par in my eyes. Thanks!
Rob, Could you please list the mod parts for that all blue one (looks like save the ocean). Looks fantastic. I'm interested in the dial, bezel, bezel insert and sapphire. Thanks in advance.
Its limited as it was a proper JDM model and has since been discontinued. What makes it special cant be seen in pictures and videos. I got one and was underwhelmed for a few days then bam- like a thunderbolt I was smitten! The finishing, dial, indices, lume and hands are just incredible and the bezel looks soooooo good in the sun.

Got them both, the SKX007J1 and the SLA021. Love them both equally, funny enough.
Your modded SKX is still my favorite of those watches you just displayed.

Yesterday I did ordered the blue one SLA023J1 because I like it so much!
Rob, you have never made a video I didn't enjoy.
Love that MM300.
Love that MM...one day😃

The new MM300 has made my short list
Best Seiko ever made. Get it.
I have one and love it to death

The thing I love Seiko is the freedom. As Rob mentions in the video, there is not right or wrong. So you are free to go any way and even make your own

I started with a Seiko SBDC051, then a Seamaster. Now I really want a Marine Master. You dont have to start at the SKX to appreciate them.
Just got my beautiful baby Marinemaster and now saving for that MM300 - hopefully with the word Marinemaster on the dial rather than the X
Your knowledge and advice are very helpful. Thanks.

That's the point. If you have a MM, there is no need for a Submariner.
Galaga I like Seiko but other than price, there is no comparison between a sub or speedy & a MM.
Stev Craig There is not one Seiko that is compared more to a Submariner than the MM. There is a reason for that.
I have the SBDX001, I’m very happy with it.

Rob what would you prefer as your one dive watch the Seiko MMaster or that Doxa you had a while back?
Yes I know they are both good lol
Doxa
The name of second model Pepsi series prospex? Not is skx009!
I need the day window, I use that quite often:S

You can buy a new Samurai for around $300.

What bracelet is it on that skx 009 on the top right corner?
Awesome comparison.
Do you know how the mm200 wears compared to the skx?
Little bigger, not as big as mm300.

Would be fun. Don’t own any of them though

Epic skx build? ($600 Seiko skx) th-cam.com/video/fFCYGx1FIyc/w-d-xo.html
Does anyone else hate the second hand on the xks, with the lume, opposite of the second hand?
What makes The Marine Masters 300 special & limited?
Its limited as it was a proper JDM model and has since been discontinued. What makes it special cant be seen in pictures and videos. I got one and was underwhelmed for a few days then bam- like a thunderbolt I was smitten! The finishing, dial, indices, lume and hands are just incredible and the bezel looks soooooo good in the sun.
Why don't they just design it, test them, make the bezel resisting 2 scratch.
In my opinion it's a rushed production. Rushed production not good for business.
