The MM300 is a very interesting watch. It's big, but, looks small, even, in my 6.25" wrist. The crafter blue strap is perfectly made for this watch. Absolutely transformed. So easy and comfortable to wear. Rugged and look different.

The mm300 wears incredible well on my 7" wrist. I'm a shorter dude and have owned 4 seiko turtles (2 king and 2 regular) and I always ended up selling them because they felt slightly too large for the length of my forearm. The sla021 looks and feels better on my wrist and arm then the turtle. Seiko magic
The SLA021 is a great evolution of the Marine Master. The dial is less cluttered than the SBDX017, but they are both classically styled and look great. The Marine Masters have height and heft, so they don’t fit under a cuff. Definitely try before you buy.
Just bought this model from my AD yesterday. I've always wanted one and finally pulled the trigger. Quality is incredible. The watch looks smaller than its stated size on my 7.25" wrist. The case just settles into my wrist perfectly although it is a bit top heavy. I will use it for scuba diving and water sports. I had my AD properly size it, and this took some time, but it is worth it to spend the time to get it to fit correctly.
I love the MM300 and own the green dial SLA047. My other dive watch is a 40mm Vertex M60C AquaLion that is 14mm thick, compared to the 44mm diameter and 15.4mm thick Seiko. What is strange and amazing is that unless the two watches are side-by-side, they look and fees about the same size on the wrist.
I’ve wanted one of these for years...and years. Sadly when I finally had the chance to handle one, it was far too big for my wrist. I settled on the SBDC061....I love it, but it’s not scratching the itch. Maybe I need to swap hands? Who knows. The look of these watches still drive me crazy when I see one.

I want to get into outdoor macro photography and videos using an auto focus camera, but I don’t want to invest in equipment, then to find out there’s better and more efficient camera bodies and lenses out there.
I just got mine in mint condition for 1000.00 with box and papers almost bought a 2 Rolex. This watch is just beautiful and worth every red ¢ it where's heavy but even and you dont even think it on your wrist i use a silicone strap and love it beautiful ⌚👍
I always wondered about the stamped part of the clasp, the inner portion; I always assumed it was stamped, but, it looks awfully thick for a stamped component. Then, another reviewer claimed that it was made from titanium. I understand stamping titanium is difficult and, why would one part of the clasp be made from titanium while the outside is machined steel? Would that make the ratcheting mechanism longer lasting?
I bought one, it was on sale. Worth every penny in my opinion. One of Seiko's 19 master watch makers assembled the entire movement, the whole thing is hand made. It runs between 3.5 to 4.5 seconds fast a day. And it doesn't make other people think your a douchebag when they see it on your wrist, like some more well known luxury brands might.

I have a quick question. I recently got a SLA021 and I noticed the crown action is slightly stiff and when I screw down the crown I have to be rather careful with the screw down. I twist counterclockwise a few turns then clockwise when I feel it set. Is that normal operation? Or should I get it serviced or looked at? I would appreciate any suggestions or feedback. Thanks
I Love my mm300 sbdx017 (I got it on your sunday watch sale) because I have it on a crafter blue strap that uses the original clasp. If it was not for that different style strap it really would not be that special to me thats what makes it feel more high end then a turtle to me. I am not really a bracelet guy and this on a nato is too tall and bumps into everything compared to a turtle. I do like this one but did it really need two prospex logos to get the mission done?
Thanks for the review. I always thought for Seiko guys all things point to the MM300, and that this has the best chance of being an Exit Watch. But one of my hesitations is my suspicion that the MM300 will compete with my black-bezel Tuna 031 and secondly I wonder if it will be a big enough step above the Tuna 031 to justify the cost of the SLA021.

Jeffrey I am owner of this new SLA and the SBBN033 and I can tell you that this new SLA is superior from the tuna in every aspect. It's an exit watch like you said. You need to see it in person and fiddle with it to understand the magic. By the way the bezel insert is ceramic-zirconia which is superior to any other normal ceramic due to its better strength and resistance to crack propagation. Since it has a dark black dial and bezel you can wear it with black, red or any other color shirt you like. :)

I owned a Seiko turtle, loved the look but not impressed with +15 sec per day. Sold it and gave Seiko one more try with the SLA021. It's my favorite watch, and I own a Casio MTG, Omega Seamaster 300m and two Omega Seamaster Planet Oceans. The SLA021at +6 sec/day is not as accurate as my other watches, but the look and feel on my 7.25" wrist is perfect. Others have complained about the bracelet, but I like it.
Hey Rob, can you please make a lume comparison between a MM300 vs. MM200 vs. a Turtle or an SKX to see, if Seiko really differentiates the lume quality according to the price tag. Thank you! Keep up the great work you do! :)
Love the MM300 I have the older sbdx017, love the upgrades on new model but I hear there are some issues with the new lume triangle with reports of the lume rubbing off...thats probably only thing that would put me off buying the new models

BB is chronometer certified w/70 hr power reserve, and I think you'd want to do better than the MM300's -10/+15 w/50 hr power reserve if you're going to pay that much money. BB is probably more versatile to a lot of folks. It's got a little vintage-y elegance to it. You can literally wear it from the boardroom to the beach, while MM300 is just very tool-sy looking. I think Seiko has the best to offer below $1000, but there are better options at the luxury price ranges. Own an SKX and a BB and you've got the best of both worlds.
@@stevenoconnell9312 i think i got lucky with my SLA019 (+4) BB case is really boring to my eyes, nice color combos, but the case.... BB dial can't come close to SLA019 when compare my friends BB and my SLA019 i would say that SLA019 should cost more... Feels more premium.
@@mercifulangel8750 BB movement is objectively better. MM accuracy is luck of the draw, but I won't rely on luck if I'm dropping 3k on a watch- I want guarantees. And the power reserve is almost a full day better on the BB. As far as looks go, that's subjective. For me, the BB is simple, warm and elegant. IMO, once you start over-finishing and adding all these angles and big bezel grips, it starts to become loud and sporty, sacrificing elegance and versatility. But everyone's got different taste. Tudor also has better legibility to me as the second and minute hands are long and reach well into the markers, whereas the Seiko's hands are too short, which seems to be an annoying theme with Seiko.
I would so wear this... I don't care its thick, would be nicer if thinner, but I'm totally fine with it. Have the Baby MM, SBDC061, and its a beautiful watch. But this is next level, and probably my favourite Seiko Dive watch.
Tried it on last month when I was shopping for a diver. Just too thick for me. Otherwise really cool. A more normal integrated microadjust clasp would be nice as well. I ending up buying a Sinn U50 instead.
So i bought this watch. Have it for almost a week now on a Strapcode Angus Jubilee. I watched almost every review and i thought a long time about buying it. I wanted a watch in the mid-price range that is bulled proof reliable and of good quality. To be honest, a rolex is out of my salary range. I also didn't want a watch made of titanium, because i like the weight. So far, i like the watch. But i was surprised how small it really is. It looked way bigger in the videos. It runs with plus 3 seconds a day. The polishing is superb, the lume is awesome, so it the crown and bezel action. And i like the weight. It always reminds me it's there. But i also have issues with it. I want to ask Seiko: For a list price of more than 3000 Euro, why don't you adjust and regulate the movement? Why don't you include a bracelet with screwed links? Why is the bezel not sealed? The lume triangle is bare paint exposed and will easily scratch or get dirty. And why do you put the lume only up to the 20 mark? Is that your way to tell the customer if he wants a full lumed bezel he has to pay 6000 Euro for a Grand Seiko? I got the watch for 2400 Euro with a lot of cashback. And in my opinion, it is not worth more than 2400 Euro because of these issues. But i'm going to keep the watch. Maybe you guys here know if i can buy a spare bezel from another Seiko watch that will fit this model. A ceramic bezel with lumibrite but without exposed paint. I have this watch but the bracelet is the weak link design wise. I bought a Hexad Strapcode and the angular look of the bracelet suits the Zaratsu watch case. Plus the Hexad Strapcode has screw links :)

I've got the SLA019 Forest Green one & its my most expensive Seiko but what a watch the weight / fit / feel / finishing is on another level compared my other Seiko watches i have a 8'' inch wrist so it dose not look too big on my wrist when i have it on i do tend to baby it to a certain degree when i wear it. I've looked at this one SLA021 but i can't seem to talk myself in to buying one seeing I've got the green one ? i know it's a bit pricey ( SLA019 £2900 UK SLA021 £2800 UK ) but once you get over the initial purchase and see the watch / quality you're getting in my opinion it's worth it ? i must admit i've had a couple of people say i'm nuts for spending that much on a Seiko but it's my money i'm spending & it puts a smile on my face so i'm not fussed what they say at the end of the day as long as i'm happy with it who cares.
Good to know - thread that goes with crown - is made stright into case - which goes south eventually... Also - magic lever - that works with auto winding - goes south as well...
It's a nice watch, but it's overpriced. They're asking 2000$ more than for the Tuna, for a monocoque case (which I never liked) and the movement 8l35. The bracelet is the same with the one that comes on the SBBN031, and to be honest, for a 3k watch, I would expect an even better bracelet. Then there is the design of the case, due to its thickness, it appears as if the watch is small and bulky. Its old competitor, the Orient Saturation diver, has a better design, even if it is a bigger watch, however I'll admit that the level of detailing is better on the Seiko. Other than that, as always a very nice review 🙂. Looking forward for the next one.

I got the SBDX017. Hardlex doesnt bother me. There's no way a ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal costs an extra $900. If the hardlex bothers you have them swap it out when it's time for a service.
It's really nice and impressive compared to other seiko watches. But it has no versatility; it's a tool watch that can't be dressed up. At this price point, I want versatility and a chronometer movement. I'll just keep saving for a Pelly LHD. Technically better and much more versatile.
@@tynannida9642 they are not equal, because it's your traditional ugly but cool Seiko tool watch. It is not elegant. But it is a cool, brutish looking thing. But, let's say they are equal.... it still gets destroyed by the Pelly as far as specs go. Tbh I don't think I could ever justify spending 3k on a Seiko. Might as well save for a luxury watch, whether it be swiss or Grand Seiko. Even if one is a seiko fanboy, wouldn't you rather save for the grand seiko diver... this feels like settling, it's not even from their luxury lineup. And if I had 7k, I can't imagine buying a pelly which are about 4k and this for 3k. You could've reaaaally gone luxury and gotten a rolex explorer ii... even if you had to save a little more.
eddard stark the thing is I’d rather have a Pelagos and mm300 over any Rolex that I could afford, for me the only thing the exp ii has going for it is that it says Rolex on the dial. I’ve looked at GS Divers but didn’t really find any that I felt like were a big enough step up from this watch (don’t really care about spring drive). Lastly I got got both watches pre-owned but like new for about $1000 under list! : D
Please advice Seiko Manufacturer to give serious attention to bracelets! They can make a premium watch but sadly they cannot make a premium bracelet to match it. If they continue to make lousy bracelets, their premium dive watches can never compete with Omega and Rolex and even the lower Swiss brands,
For whatever reason, that Prospex logo really cheapens the look of any watch that has it. Here, particularly in replacing the "MARINEMASTER" text, which is one of the best dial texts in the business, this is almost disgraceful. What improved? You mentioned the ceramic bezel. I assume, although you didn't mention it, that the crystal is sapphire. Anything else?
Disappointed by the bracelet and clasp quality. The price is basically on par with Tudor but lacks the refinement. Who cares if its a GS movement. The Blackbay's movement still thrashed it.
In my opinion, Seiko being rude including the same rubber strap that comes with a $200 Turtle as well. What happened to the nice waffle straps from previous generations? Pure greediness.

The SLA021J1 is one of my favourite watches of all time. Lucky as I got mine at a big discount,. It is in my permanent rotation currently.

Yessir, that is a fine, fine unit. Please review warranties on watches retailing over $1500. That will open some eyes.
I went with the sbdx017. Can't get pass that PX logo. I'm totally happy with the hardlex and aluminum bezel.

I watched almost every review and i thought a long time about buying it.
I wanted a watch in the mid-price range that is bulled proof reliable and of good quality.
To be honest, a rolex is out of my salary range.
I also didn't want a watch made of titanium, because i like the weight.
So far, i like the watch.
But i was surprised how small it really is. It looked way bigger in the videos.
It runs with plus 3 seconds a day.
The polishing is superb, the lume is awesome, so it the crown and bezel action.
And i like the weight. It always reminds me it's there.
But i also have issues with it.
I want to ask Seiko:
For a list price of more than 3000 Euro, why don't you adjust and regulate the movement?
Why don't you include a bracelet with screwed links?
Why is the bezel not sealed? The lume triangle is bare paint exposed and will easily scratch or get dirty.
And why do you put the lume only up to the 20 mark?
Is that your way to tell the customer if he wants a full lumed bezel he has to pay 6000 Euro for a Grand Seiko?
I got the watch for 2400 Euro with a lot of cashback. And in my opinion, it is not worth more than 2400 Euro because of these issues.
But i'm going to keep the watch.
Maybe you guys here know if i can buy a spare bezel from another Seiko watch that will fit this model. A ceramic bezel with lumibrite but without exposed paint.

+3s a day is COSC standard. Why would you want it regulating.?
I have this watch but the bracelet is the weak link design wise. I bought a Hexad Strapcode and the angular look of the bracelet suits the Zaratsu watch case. Plus the Hexad Strapcode has screw links :)
I think I’m pretty much stuck in the Seiko 5 series for awhile price wise, but it’s not a bad place to be stuck at.
Still a darn good watch to be stuck with

I've got the SLA019 Forest Green one & its my most expensive Seiko but what a watch the weight / fit / feel / finishing is on another level compared my other Seiko watches
i have a 8'' inch wrist so it dose not look too big on my wrist when i have it on i do tend to baby it to a certain degree when i wear it.
I've looked at this one SLA021 but i can't seem to talk myself in to buying one seeing I've got the green one ? i know it's a bit pricey ( SLA019 £2900 UK SLA021 £2800 UK ) but once
you get over the initial purchase and see the watch / quality you're getting in my opinion it's worth it ? i must admit i've had a couple of people say i'm nuts for spending that much
on a Seiko but it's my money i'm spending & it puts a smile on my face so i'm not fussed what they say at the end of the day as long as i'm happy with it who cares.

Good to know - thread that goes with crown - is made stright into case - which goes south eventually...
Also - magic lever - that works with auto winding - goes south as well...

The Marinemaster died when they omitted it from the dial. Stupid move by Seiko. SBDX001/017 is the one to get in lieu of LE models.

to much letters...this way is better, more room to enjoy the dial...
It's a nice watch, but it's overpriced. They're asking 2000$ more than for the Tuna, for a monocoque case (which I never liked) and the movement 8l35. The bracelet is the same with the one that comes on the SBBN031, and to be honest, for a 3k watch, I would expect an even better bracelet.
Then there is the design of the case, due to its thickness, it appears as if the watch is small and bulky. Its old competitor, the Orient Saturation diver, has a better design, even if it is a bigger watch, however I'll admit that the level of detailing is better on the Seiko.
Other than that, as always a very nice review 🙂. Looking forward for the next one.

Really Cool watch....makes me think pretty much the same thing as all the grand seiko sport watches, why so big? I guess I am just crying because I have baby sized wrists...

I got the SBDX017. Hardlex doesnt bother me. There's no way a ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal costs an extra $900. If the hardlex bothers you have them swap it out when it's time for a service.

Amazing watch. The movement is the same as the Grand Seiko, just not decorated..
I only hope it has a longer minute hand. The current minute hand is way too short and hurts its legibility.

Bracelet and clasp is shocking for a £2800 watch
The bracelet leaves something to be desired. Not an issue though. This watch belongs on rubber and to be used daily. I love mine.
One thing is sure: grand Seiko don’t make divers so cool.

It's really nice and impressive compared to other seiko watches. But it has no versatility; it's a tool watch that can't be dressed up. At this price point, I want versatility and a chronometer movement. I'll just keep saving for a Pelly LHD. Technically better and much more versatile.
eddard stark i have this and a Pelagos they have turned out to be equally as versatile.
@@tynannida9642 they are not equal, because it's your traditional ugly but cool Seiko tool watch. It is not elegant. But it is a cool, brutish looking thing. But, let's say they are equal.... it still gets destroyed by the Pelly as far as specs go.
Tbh I don't think I could ever justify spending 3k on a Seiko. Might as well save for a luxury watch, whether it be swiss or Grand Seiko. Even if one is a seiko fanboy, wouldn't you rather save for the grand seiko diver... this feels like settling, it's not even from their luxury lineup.
And if I had 7k, I can't imagine buying a pelly which are about 4k and this for 3k. You could've reaaaally gone luxury and gotten a rolex explorer ii... even if you had to save a little more.
eddard stark the thing is I’d rather have a Pelagos and mm300 over any Rolex that I could afford, for me the only thing the exp ii has going for it is that it says Rolex on the dial.
I’ve looked at GS Divers but didn’t really find any that I felt like were a big enough step up from this watch (don’t really care about spring drive).
Lastly I got got both watches pre-owned but like new for about $1000 under list! : D

Please advice Seiko Manufacturer to give serious attention to bracelets! They can make a premium watch but sadly they cannot make a premium bracelet to match it. If they continue to make lousy bracelets, their premium dive watches can never compete with Omega and Rolex and even the lower Swiss brands,
For whatever reason, that Prospex logo really cheapens the look of any watch that has it. Here, particularly in replacing the "MARINEMASTER" text, which is one of the best dial texts in the business, this is almost disgraceful.
What improved? You mentioned the ceramic bezel. I assume, although you didn't mention it, that the crystal is sapphire. Anything else?

Disappointed by the bracelet and clasp quality. The price is basically on par with Tudor but lacks the refinement. Who cares if its a GS movement. The Blackbay's movement still thrashed it.
44mm case 20mm lug width. Wrong ratio. Too thick as well, and overpriced.

In my opinion, Seiko being rude including the same rubber strap that comes with a $200 Turtle as well. What happened to the nice waffle straps from previous generations? Pure greediness.

@@technoboy21 it is not the same rubber strap mate, i have all of them, have metal insert for spring bars, has a different lines inside and its better and more resistant to wear. If you can prove me wrong go ahead am here.
Clasp is a joke.....pressed metal on a 3k watch.
