BREAKING: Price Change 6 of 2024 - Big Changes On Most Tesla Models PLUS End of Referral Program?!?!

- Tesla just kicked off the 6th price change of 2024 on the heals of the recent world wide layoffs. Although not entirely surprising to see this price change come in after a major restructuring, it was surprising to see that Tesla was also ending their referral program.
This price change has impacted most Tesla Models including the Model Y, Model X and Model S. The Model 3 was not impacted, which is no surprise given its refresh just recently started shipping in the US. That said, the first refresh Model 3 delivery with white interior was just confirmed today meaning that the delay on white interior seems to be finally over.
The price change this time around was a decrease. On the Model Y lineup, we saw an even $2,000 reduction on RWD, LR AWD and Performance models of the Model Y. The change isn't all that significant when considering the Model Y is now right back to prices at the beginning of the year before Tesla publicly stated that they would be increasing prices on the Model Y by $1,000 after both February and March. So we have a net even price from just 2 months ago on Model Y.
Model S and Model X saw the same $2,000 price reduction on both Dual Motor All Wheel Drive and Plaid trims. This now means that the base Model X can afford up to $2k in options and still qualify for the EV tax credit. You can add any color except ultra red, or any interior, or add a Yoke steering wheel and still be under the $80k MSRP cap and still qualify for the tax credit, assuming you personally qualify.
Lastly, Tesla has officially announced the end of the referral program. This is the second time in the last few years that Tesla has all together ended their referral program. Last time Tesla removed the referral program, it was gone for about 2 years before coming back with new credits style referrals that could be redeemed for accessories, upgrade and experiences.
With the restructuring that just occurred at Tesla, none of this is overly surprising. When there is a major shift internally, it is usually followed by some changes in product offerings, and this time it also included an incentive program for referrals.
Tesla removed all discounts on existing inventory this month, except for Demo models, and this seems to be in preparation for these new prices we are seeing today. Although we have new lower prices, without those inventory discounts, the actual price for taking delivery is higher than it was just a month ago in the end. I believe we will see discounts on inventory once again come the end of the quarter and hopefully a refresh Model 3 Ludacris or Performance start delivering to customers.

The right time to buy any vehicle is when the buyers NEED dictates it is time to buy. For me, it makes no sense to live life in a manner where you are always second guessing your decisions constantly. If you like the current price, and you can afford it, and you NEED it, then buy it and stop thinking about it. Don't concern yourself with future upgrades that "might" be coming or future price changes that "might" becoming. This is equivalent to living life in what I called "scared" mode. If you, as the buyer, don't NEED to buy, then stop looking at the market and prices and whatnot... go concern yourself with other things and come back when you NEED another vehicle.

Took delivery on a MYLR yesterday in Charlotte NC, was an inventory car so the total was like $42,000 with tax and out the door. Ultra Red, black interior, basic AP, 5 seats

Compared to other auto makers, Tesla is really trying to sell cars, while others are price gouging buyers at dealerships. Depreciation sucks, but if you’re overpaying for another brand of vehicle, the same level of depreciation is happening when you sell.
People complain when the price goes up, and they complain when they go down. I'm happy to see these cars becoming more accessible.
Good ol franchise dealer model
Model 3 leasing: $1.5/mile when you can drive only 277 miles a month (not even 1x 0-100% of the battery). With those miles (maxed out) you save only $15/month, not $50/month as the calculator claims. The calculator also uses totally wrong mi/kWh mileage value.

Yeah prices were $3k cheaper weeks ago. Last month (March) was prob the best time to buy cause inventory discounts were huge and Tesla had like 3-4 incentives running so was a steal. I unfortunately missed out cause I was hoping to save more money and buy in the later quarters but no idea anymore on what Tesla is gonna do 😢

Thats a good question! Insurance probably pays more market value which should be higher. You;d have o wait till the next year to qualify for another tax incentive.

I think it’ll drop more, or at least inventory discounts will come back. With these lower prices, it’s still more than what most were in inventory end of quarter
Why is Tesla not giving you the option to buy out your lease anymore? My lease is coming to an end and my information sent by Tesla, says I must trade in only. I have very low mileage and I just want to keep it. Maybe getting the Y would be better since it has a tax break?? Please please advise
The TH-cam is the wrong place for financial advice. You must do your own research and due diligence.
Tesla leases don't let you buy out the car so you have to give it back to Tesla. Not sure about the "trade in only" option that Tesla is giving you but if you want the best deal and you're in the US, then the MY is currently the best valued vehicle since it qualifies for POS federal tax credit. Next time you need to do your research before committing to something like this.
@@liam1902 Thank you for answering my question. I received a letter stating that I could purchase my Tesla if my lease was coming due, after contacting Tesla, this was only offered during the battery shortage. I thought it was a permanent change.

On a side note, last week the FSD monthly subscription price went down 50% from $199 to $99 per month. Price drop coming for FSD at $12k ??? We've been really enjoying playing around with the FSD features and we just got an email from Tesla that my 30 day trial ends in two weeks and saw the new price. Wondering if this is a short term deal for trial vehicles or will be the new set price for everyone. I'm gonna subscribe until at least the end of the year since we have a few long road trips scheduled this summer and the end of the year we really love the auto lane change. $25 bucks a week seems pretty reasonable IMO. I firmly believe that Tesla is going to have to reduce the FSD price down from $12k and $6k for enhanced AP or make it transferable for life for any new Tesla purchases. With this new subscription price It will take you over 8 years to break even if you paid the $12k and 5 years for the $6k Enhanced AP.

@@JPDB7 Good catch. It's on the Model 3 as well. It must have just changed today! To me, $8k is still too high when subscription is $99 per month. Unless of course the FSD package is transferable to other vehicles for life.

Tesla is in trouble. The market is saturated. I’m a two time Tesla buyer. I’ll never buy another one after what they did with pricing last year. I’m used to getting screwed buy the big 3 automakers. At least with them, I knew it was happening.

Tesla screwed themselves and their existing customers. They should have had some high end luxury models and entry models. And the CT took too long time to be produced. The 4680 is the key seems likely.

I just checked the Tesla price calculator, and I could buy the SAME EXACT car today for $22,510 cheaper.
