    Just keep in mind, that any screen protector will remove every positive aspect of the anti glare etching your 512GB model has and only leave you with the toned down colors of the etching for the antiglare.

      @andrebrait 2 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      That's a bit why I regret getting the 512GB. I mean, the space is neat and I kinda need it, even with a 1TB card, and the screen looks sweet, much like a very high quality IPS gaming monitor (like a Samsung G70A), not a fuzzy mess, but I kinda wonder if I should've gone with the 256 or 64GB versions.

    Another thing to keep in mind is that the SD card reader on the Deck has limit of 100 MB/s read speed so faster cards won't have better load times, like the sandisk extreme A2 instead of ultra. All you will get is faster write speed for downloading or moving files from the Deck to the card

      I think the A1/A2 rating is about application performance, which is more of random I/O rather than sequential (which falls under the V rating I believe). So an A2 card should still have an advantage because random I/O is affected less than sequential by the interface. Loading games relies more on random I/O than sequential I believe.

      This just doesn't seem like a good idea for a number of reasons. The form factor of the deck is just inferior for laptop use. You don't have a keyboard, you don't have a trackpad, and the screen is tiny for a laptop. You'll be fiddling around with two or three disconnected devices in your lap instead of having one nice discreet device in a form factor designed for such use. Also, laptops can have dGPUs and can outperform the Deck (for more money, though). A laptop would also probably have a bigger battery.
      It would be ok as a desktop replacement since you can have a monitor as well and there is a desk to set everything up. But it won't be a good laptop replacement.

    • @chrisdpratt

    PRO TIP: You can format your SD card using BTRFS instead of EXT4. That way you can save A LOT of space thanks to data compression, with a negligible/next to zero impact on performance or battery. The only downside is that SD mount have to be done from Desktop Mode instead directly from Game Mode (unless you edit...certain things).
    Could be a good investigation topic, because BTRFS seems to fit Deck's SDs use case MUCH more better than EXT4.

    Screen protectors are a scam as an industry. They used to be viable before Corning refined their gorilla glass. Now, the screen protector will always scratch and always break from things that would have never scratched or cracked your device's screen. One surface scratching another comes down to hardness level and unless you're walking around with diamond jewelry in your backpack, I really don't think any normal dust, dirt or debris would scratch your screen. They're literally designed to not do that. But screen protectors are soft enough and are designed to do that, that's why they scratch and shatter. When it happens people usually think, "oh the screen protector just saved my device from it". It really didn't. It just broke giving you the idea it saved your device. This is true for impact fractures too. Corning glass is great at resisting it but screen protectors are not. The protector will shatter giving you the sense it did its job, when in reality that exactly is the scam. You're incurring an additional expense on your device to lay in a falsified safety net. Corning glass, especially, is fine on its own.
