Hi, is it one or two cans of Oregon Boysenberries? I use 2. Or if you use the Frozen berries how many are we supposed to use? I use heaping 2 cups for 8" pie pan, 3 cups for 9" pie pan. Normally I would use a pat of butter to make a luxurious filling, do you? I would also brush fresh cream or melted butter across the top crust and crimped edges and then sprinkle sugar for a little sparkle so to add more to be a sweet crust to balance out the tart berries. I live in Oregon in the Willamette valley to purchase fresh boysenberries right from the field while they're ripe for just a short time . It takes special weather conditions to be able to grow boysenberries and that's why they are so expensive. They can only be grown in a few States.
Hi stacyhunt5342. Thanks for the great ideas! We do add butter and sprinkle sugar to some of our pies, but not this one. We wanted to keep some of the original Knott's recipe ingredients in this version. This recipe calls for 3 cans of the Oregon Boysenberries because we are using a 9" deep dish pie pan. We appreciate your comments and ideas. The ducks do have family in the Grants Pass and Medford area also. It is a beautiful place to live. If you would like a printed recipe, please send an email to quack@duckinapot.com and we will send this recipe and other recipe that you would like from www.duckinapot.com May the Duck Be With You!
