I was having a MOMENT with that pie. Below you will find the recipe. Thank you for watching and be sure to head over to our 2nd channel Frontier Patriot once you're done here to watch us eat this delicious pie & chat with you all. Rayfield family pie crust. This was Ron's grandma's: 3 cups of flour 1 & 1/3 cup of butter, cold Salt, a pinch Vinegar, a dash 1 egg 1/3 cup cold water Combine the flour & salt. Add the butter (if you cut it into cubes first it's easier to work with). Work into the flour with 2 knives until the butter is the size of peas throughout. In a bowl whisk together an egg with your water & vinegar before combining this with the other ingreidnets to form a dough. This is enough to make a top and a bottom crust. For the pie: Wild blackberries, at least 3 cups but the more the better 3/4 cup sugar + more for sprinkling on top 1/4 cup flour A bit of butter for rubbing on top Lay a pie crust onto the bottom of a pie plate. In a bowl combine your blackberries, sugar & flour. Mix up well before pouring this filling into your pie plate. Cover with a top crust and crimp the edges as you desire. Be sure to cut out a vent on top so that steam may be let out while baking. Rub the top crust with butter then sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
Looks delicious. I picked blackberries with my MAMA many times growing up in KY,June bugs were pesky and we had to watch for snakes, the briars would poke but a cobbler made from those natural berries were worth it every time ❤😊
This recipe is very similar to my mom's particularly the filling, except she uses frozen fruit that's been thawed and drained, which creates a dryer pie that can be held in the hand and eaten. A lot of the ladies from our church use a cooked filling for their pies, but my Mom sees no reason to go to the extra effort-- four cups of fruit combined with half a cup of sugar and a quarter cup of flour, put in a pie crust and baked until the crust is golden and the fruit is bubbly, that's a recipe that you can actually call as easy as pie.
I have never in my life had anything but wild blackberries and black Raspberry's. I have been blessed to always live in homes with wild berries readily available to pick.
Your pie turned out beautifully and looks so tasty. Wish we had smell-a-vision. This video brought back so many good childhood memories for me. Grew up on my grandparents' farm in northeast Georgia, and there was several acres of pasture not in use any more where wild blackberries had taken over. When they were at their peak, usually just after the 4th of July, I would wake up early in the morning, load up a couple of bushel baskets on the tractor with a couple of gallons of water and some PB&J sandwiches and spend all day picking. First thing my grandmother would do was make me a blackberry cobbler or pie. The rest of the berries she would make into jams and jellies. Thanks again for sharing
Justine, you are already the young lady who bakes pies in the woods! Delicious ones at that! Thanks for reminding me of blackberry picking days! Great video. Great channel!😊
This makes me reminiscent of going brambling when we were little kids, and hoping we'd have enough backberries left to make a berry and apple pie. Always came back home with purple hands and mouths. Thank you for the video and the memories ❤
Hi Justine! It's so peaceful hearing the sounds of nature behind you as you find berries and prepare the pie! Birds, cicadas, the wind in the trees. So lovely! And speaking of lovely, your pie is a pie lover's dream! You are carrying on a tradition making Ron's grandma's recipe. It's so nice to carry on tradition and blend it with your own love. Congratulations on your one million plus subscribers!!! Hello to Ron, Mish, and our new friend, Alfred. You and he deserve All the CARROTS ♥🐰
Fresh blackberries. They look beautiful. Wild fruit is always better. It’s so cute that Mish Mish was following you. The pie looks amazing. The dancing with Mish Mish was adorable. Thank you, Justine, for the recipe.
i live in japan and wild blackberries r not common here but thanks to you, i searched some of the stores that make american cherry pie and ordered the similar one u have uploaded before. now i gotta try this one. maybe i can find a farmer that grows wild brackberries. i mean, thanks to u, i could meet lotta meals and sweets that i couldnt taste if it wasnt for you. thanks a lot justine!
I have no idea why this video had me choked up. Is it because a simple way of life that has slipped away from us in the hustle and bustle world we now inhabit? The necessity of peaceful pursuits for a life well lived cannot be overstated. Every single day I now strive to bring a morsel of tranquility, born of a quiet spirit and mindfulness....those very things that I see in you Justine...into my life. Your pie is perfection and has my mouth watering!
This video brings back a memory of picking blackberries with my grandpa in his garden many long years ago. I was a city kid so I loved going to visit my grandparents in the country. So peaceful watching you make pie the old fashioned way. And I love that you dance with your kitty (I used to have a black cat named Boo that I danced with).
I remember as a child our family picking blackberries from the side of the road in New Zealand. These beautiful fruits are no longer there. Justine, thank you for bringing back beautiful childhood memories of blackberry picking through your delicious recipe. Keep looking after yourself and I just adore your cat. Much love and respect, from New Zealand. XX
I love how you can see Justine's excitement for this pie just before she puts it in the oven. I was excited for this pie, and I didn't even get to eat it! I love pie. It's my favorite dessert of all time! Oh, and you're correct about the GMO stuff they put in our stores and try to call it "food" compared to the real thing. There's no comparison. Cultivated has no flavor, or is bitter, while real fruit is sweet and bursting with flavor!
I stumbled upon your channel not too long ago and have been binging your vids when I see them pop up. They're so comforting and calm in times like these. Lovely content.
When I lived in Alaska it was so fun to go out and pick wild berries! There were blueberries growing in bogs by the side of the road, raspberries and cranberries growing along the edges of the forests. And wild strawberries and rose hips in the forests.
I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I love your cat. I have 2 sisters that look just like yours. They were strays that came to my home, and I kept them. They are my most loyal friends. A good cat is a wonderful thing. Nothing tastes like wild blackberries. The ones from the store pale in comparison.
Starting about 60 years ago when I was eight, I used to grab a pail and walk up and down the roads picking blackberries when they were in season. Sometimes I'd eat a few of them right off the bush. My pail would be filled to about an inch from the top. But since my family was a large one, the blackberries would go fast. My mom would use what I brought home to top vanilla ice cream with or make jams or add them to coffee cakes. You're so right! Those little wild blackberries tasted better than the giant store-bought ones.
I planted thornless blackberries (forgive me...I'm old 🙂) in my front yard last year. Today I made a blackberry cobbler - first I've had in many many years. The bushes are loaded - only 6 bushes, but doing very well, and I'm hoping to get enough in my freezer for at least 3 pies for the future. LOVE this video!!!!
You know, we used to live by a bunch of berry bushes in the woods. My girls would pick them and bring them home. I thought they were raspberries but now I’m thinking they were blackberries. We went and picked as many as we could find and I baked a bar pastry. It was delicious and the girls were so proud that they had picked the berries! I agree with store bought berries. They really have no taste. I’m so happy you picked your wedding date. My parents got married on May 7th. It’s the most beautiful time of year to get married!!
Ahh...the memories. As a farm boy in a time when fields had hedgerows and berries could grow wild, my Mom made berry pies in season. We had hickory nuts and naturalized cherries that had been planted by birds here and there.
I am recovering for spine surgery and is relaxing seen her baking in total peace. No rush, no interrupted by cell phones or anything else. Thank you so much. You are unique!
And congratulations on reaching 1 million subscribers! I'm so happy for you guys! It's so well deserved, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this channel!
Thank you, Justine. Today's video brought back so many happy memories of my youth. Baking with my grandmother and picking wild blackberries and strawberries with my siblings.
My mother and I were just picking raspberries in the woods behind my house when we found hundreds of i ripened blackberries! We’ll be picking them next week and I’ll be making this our. Thanks!
I remember picking blackberries with my parents and sister, way back in late august days. They picked and put the berries in a bucket and I ate them out of the bucket so we always ended up with less blackberrie jam then my mother intended for. Love them. My family and the blackberries!!! ❤
Oh the memories this brought back! We used to pick wild blackberries in the back to make jams and jellies with. The leftover pie dough was used to make patty pans which are like tarts with leftovwr fruit or just a bit of flour, egg and cinnamon sugar. Keep up the good work!❤
Loved this recipe with simple ingredients. I'm in Australia, so we don't have wild blackberries. But I remember picking wild Mulberries as a child. Also, loved watching Justine dancing with Mish Mish! I have a male black cat that is just the same! Whenever I think of you guys, it reminds me of me and what I want to do. Love to you all from Far North Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ❤ 8:15
Justine your silent cooking just heals the soul❤ I remember putting my kids in the trees to pick the ripest fruit and baking pies, tarts, and canning❤ Thank you !
I have never been brave enough to bake a homemade pie from scratch since I failed miserably in middle school. You made it look so easy that I just might be brave.. especially since Blackberry is my favorite pie!!
Justine, everything always looks so comfy in the cabin and the pie looked perfect. Your crust skills are phenomenal. Give Alfred & MishMish some love & have a glorious week! xoxo
This brings me back sweet memories of my childhood; my dad had all kind of fruits and veggies in our land out in the country, my mom and I used to pick the fruits up from trees and shrubs to have delicious homemade desserts. Your Pie looks good and for the face you made after you tasted it, looks delicious 🥧🫐
Though I love all of your videos, this is my all-time favorite. I will watch it over and over during the dark days of winter and be cheered by the hope of summer, wild blackberries and pie. My husband and I love you guys! Congratulations on hitting 1 million subscribers!!!
I remember wild blackberries growing in several little ditches around our neighborhood when we were kids. My mom would send us out to get stuck a thousand times and collect a couple big bowls full, LOL. Then she'd magically turn them into the most amazing pie ever, so it was totally worth it!
I enjoy the silence of these videos--so we can hear the fire crackling, the whisking of the ingredients, and even birdsong outside! Lovely to feel the difference from the constant hum of appliances, music, TV etc. (I tend to cook listening to audiobooks!). But I am sure that people sang as they worked, and chatted to themselves, or with their families. And this young wife doesn't yet have a passel of children underfoot! Thank you for these lovely videos.
Just sitting and watching your wonderful videos of the old days takes away my stresses . . . Thank you . . . These videos take me away to a beautiful place where I feel good . . . Kind of like Grandma's house!!
I grew up eating blackberries straight off the vine in the woods surrounding our home. I can't imagine how tedious it must've been to pick enough for a pie though! Thank you for another one of your always pleasant relaxing videos.
This brings to mind great memories of going out and picking wild blackberries. We still do so even to this day despite the fact that blackberry bushes will "reach out and grab a hold of you" requiring you to dress in clothing more tantamount to a knight in armor than a random guy seeking wild blackberries. We used to make cobblers, jams, and jellies out of wild blackberries. Such fond memories! Thank you!
Wild Blackberry Pie |Baking in the Forest| Our Family Recipe...extraordinary, the best recipe.. very useful and beneficial.. thank you for sharing this recipe... Tempting appetite... Always successful.. God Bless You.. Greetings from your friends, traditional Indonesian gold seekers 🇮🇩🌺🌼💎 ⚒⛏👍👍👍
My mother used to make blackberry pies with the wild blackberries I picked in the woods behind our house when I was a kid. They looked just like the one you made when they were done. Oh, the sweet memories of childhood. I could almost taste the pie in this video.
Justine makes a beautiful pie crust!! The black berries look delicious. Justine has gotten her cooking down pat .😊 Justine is charming in these sweet videos . The ending in this video was so clever . I loved hearing Mr rabbit share the good news of one million subscribers. This video is an example of why this amazing channel has one million subscribers ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am so impressed with this pie. We have a pie dough recipy that has ben in our family for six generations. My great Granny taught me how to make it. She said it was her Grandmas recipy. Yours is exactly like ours, makes the best crust. My Granny would have loved this pie with fresh picked blackberries.
Thank you for these wonderful videos. I look forward to every new video. Growing up in the Great Lakes area we had wild black raspberries and wild strawberries, which were the best ever for pies. As every experienced pie baker knows, however, dancing with your cat is the real key to a great pie. 💖😺🥧
Pie making hasn't changed much except for the baking in an oven! My that looks scrumptious!! Great job Justine! Mish Mish love you! Alfred Fig the spokes bunny too cute!!
I have only had pies and cobblers made from wild blackberries so I wouldn’t be able to compare those made with modern types. I used to play these videos for my bed fast mother as she was going through Alzheimer’s disease. She forgot how to walk and I helped her through those hard times by trying to help her remember her past. My mom grew up in a small one bedroom cabin in the Appalachian Mountains so this setup here was exactly how she grew up. With the exception of having two parents, seven brothers and sisters and a dog that is. Actually this video brought up memories of two generations because I remember sneaking into moms fridge and grabbing a few of those blackberries that she had prepared just like the ones here but had ran out of time that day to bake the pie. She literally called these pies “poor man’s pie” because of the simple ingredients used in the recipe. There were so many hours spent over the years with us kids, three boys and mom along the roadsides here in North Carolina picking blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. I pray I remember these things always. Even though Alzheimer’s took my mother’s memory and she didn’t know who I was during the last 6 years I knew who she was and tended to her every need until she passed away in my arms as I sang “you are my sunshine” into her ear. It was the single hardest yet most beautiful thing I’ve ever done. Soon, on her birthday I will trek up the mountain to that cabin where she was born and spread her ashes. I’m not sure I’ll be able to leave her there but somehow watching these videos makes me feel connected to her. I remember her lying in her bed watching them on the monitor I had placed over her. Though she had forgotten how to talk I relished the little noises and mumbles she would make when she would see things inside this cabin that reminded her of her past. Please don’t ever stop producing these as they’re having a much greater impact than you may have imagined. Blessings and good health to you!❤
Congrats on the subs! You make such gorgeous pies girl! All with open fire. I have a convection oven, air fryer & fancy microwave. But I can't bake or cook as well as you do in an open fire pit. My ancestors did all that but I never got the chance 🤷♀️. But you're the best at cooking with open fire. Easy for some but not me. Love the pie, amazing job 😁👍🙌💕
That looks so delish! My great grandmother used to send us kids out to pick blackberries and she'd make tarts and jam with them. This one brought back some memories.
my nana made the best blackberry pie, they grew all around my grandparents property 😊 usually at least once a summer i’d go out with my nana and we’d fill up a huge bucket. then bring it back inside and start baking 🤍
I'm elated I found your channel. I've always felt like an old soul therefore that time period always felt drawn to it. It's so relaxing and nostalgic watching you cook inside that cozy cabin. I just adore your cute fur baby 😊😻 I'll be binge watching your videos. The pie looks so delicious... Great lesson on engineered berries verses wild - thank you for sharing that. I know you love what you do but I'm sure a lot of work goes into gathering, purchasing, working, planning, research, filming and editing to be able to share it with us so I want to give you a huge thank you for sharing your throw back time machine with us. Blessings to you and yours 💗
Every season gives us food. I look forward to gathering whatever is in season. Justine, that pie is amazing looking, and tomorrow I'm picking blackberries 😊
I still remember picking blackberries as a kid in rural Oklahoma. All that sweat, bee stings and sticker scratches were worth a big bowl! Thanks for conjuring up memories!
When I was a kid we would go out into the country in the late spring searching for dewberries. When I was 12 we moved to east Texas and we got to know where the good dewberry patches were. Whereas blackberries grow up on bushes, dewberries grow more on trailing vines along the ground. We found one dewberry patch where the vines grew on the steep bank along the roadway and you could just stand and pick the berries as opposed to having to stoop over to pick. Mom would make cobblers and jelly from the berries. Yum! The berries today have been engineered to be much larger but in doing so they don’t seem to have the flavor they used to. Strawberries today are huge but don’t have the same flavor. Some of the strawberries are big as golf balls.
I used to love plucking the wild blackberries out in the field where my parents live when I was younger. They would be so plentiful every year (that is, if you get them before the birds do!) My mom would make blackberry and blueberry pies every summer. I miss those days.
I am going to make a Blackberry pie tomorrow morning after i pick a bunch of blackberries in the early morning when there is still dew on the grass and the bees have not yet come out. I am going to use your recipe. Thank you for posting it. Love your videos! :)
I love berry pies and blackberry pie is my favorite,,,,,,as kids we used to pick wild blackberries, and we made 15 cents a basket, long long time ago…….💜☺️
The house I grew up in from age 3-11 had blackberry bushes growing in the alleyway. The blackberries were the size of the engineered ones shown in the video. I used to pick them, wash them, and eat them as a snack during the summer. It's a nice little memory I have from when I was a child.
This pie looks award winning! Im sure its delicious! Don't stop making all these wonderful foods. Thankyou and Ron dir your amazing and interesting videos. Keep them coming! You are fantastic young people. God bless you both.🙏❤️💙
I love these videos. I would have loved living back in those days. I'm tired of working for a company, that doesn't care for nothing more than money. I'd rather wear out my body working for my family and me.
Please never stop making these! They're satisfying and aesthetic
Watching these are good for my soul. I’d love to live a simple life like this.
I was having a MOMENT with that pie. Below you will find the recipe. Thank you for watching and be sure to head over to our 2nd channel Frontier Patriot once you're done here to watch us eat this delicious pie & chat with you all.
Rayfield family pie crust. This was Ron's grandma's:
3 cups of flour
1 & 1/3 cup of butter, cold
Salt, a pinch
Vinegar, a dash
1 egg
1/3 cup cold water
Combine the flour & salt.
For the pie:
Wild blackberries, at least 3 cups but the more the better
3/4 cup sugar + more for sprinkling on top
1/4 cup flour
A bit of butter for rubbing on top
Lay a pie crust onto the bottom of a pie plate.
I picked blackberries with my MAMA many times growing up in KY,June bugs were pesky and we had to watch for snakes, the briars would poke but a cobbler made from those natural berries were worth it every time ❤😊
I don't believe I've ever made a pie crust that had egg in. Egg wash on top, yes, but not in the crust itself.
Justine you are a master baker! Why aren’t you selling your pies online?! I would buy one for sure!

I'm at my PC watching this, and my kitty is here in my lap. I've been "awwing" at your cat this whole time. The pie looks perfect btw.
You are so good at making pies!
I was thinking that too! And cooking it with hot coals and came out perfect!
I wish I could make it look that good but I'm horrible at pies.
And congratulations on reaching 1 million subscribers! I'm so happy for you guys! It's so well deserved, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this channel!
I hope you ex friend never reaches 1 million subscribers since she is just a copy cat and can't be Justine and Ron.
My wife and I pick wild black raspberries in early July. We make a pie and it's the best. A slice of heaven. Thank you for sharing.

The sound of the butter being scraped from the bowl is always my favorite sound in these videos.

We just had Blackberry festival here in Oklahoma. I love blackberries 😊
I love to cook so love watching your videos . And It’s also so relaxing not a bunch of talking and look at me ‘ like most videos today . ❤️

am a grower of bedding plants & perennials & have been for over 30 years & think wild fruit is so much better
I love watching these videos so much. They make me so incredibly happy. Thank you Justine. God Bless you!
Mish Mish was like...what are you doing woman!! 🤣So cute! The pie looks delicious!
Lovely recipe. I haven’t had home baked berry pie since my mum passed away. She made great pies. I think I will give it a go. Thanks Justine
Thank you!
It's berry season so that means pies and jams and preserves and chutneys etc... YUM! Thanks Justine. Blackberries are one of my favorites!
This pie looked so delish! Wild blueberries grow where I live and boy do they make yummy pies, jams and syrups.❤
Mmmm, wild black berries. I don't have to substitute. I have about a half acre of them growing in my yard. YUMMM
My favourite channel! You inspired me to be a better cook and now I'm striving to live a simple life by the woods. Thank you very much for you effort.
What a wonderful recipe!! And as she is a good cook, what skill, after all, the pie was already beautiful!!
You guys are the cutest thing on TH-cam. Thank you for all the work you put into making these delightful videos. 🌸
Oh, fresh berries. Nothing better. The pie looks delicious. I'm glad to be your friend Justine. 😊
my nana made the best blackberry pie, they grew all around my grandparents property 😊 usually at least once a summer i’d go out with my nana and we’d fill up a huge bucket. then bring it back inside and start baking 🤍
You have mastered the pie crust for sure. You always make beautiful pies. Fresh berries are a bonus!
Thanks for this....I used to watch my mother make pies just like this
I'm elated I found your channel.
I've always felt like an old soul therefore that time period always felt drawn to it.
It's so relaxing and nostalgic watching you cook inside that cozy cabin.
I just adore your cute fur baby 😊😻
I'll be binge watching your videos.
Blessings to you and yours 💗
i recently visited my daughter and she has tons of blackberries and made my first pie nothing better than that!!❤
Every season gives us food.
Such a great video ! From picking the wild fruit to creating and baking a delicious masterpiece .........you are both artists !!!
Looks amazing! My mouth is watering when you cut a slice!
God bless y'all. Thank y'all for sharing your lives with us. Much love from Warner Robins, Georgia ❤🤍💙🐈⬛🐇
That looks so good! Nothing better than fresh picked berries.
I used to love plucking the wild blackberries out in the field where my parents live when I was younger. They would be so plentiful every year (that is, if you get them before the birds do!) My mom would make blackberry and blueberry pies every summer. I miss those days.
Ahh dá até uma vontade de viver nessa época. Sem aparelhos, tudo na simplicidade. ❤❤❤
ماشاءالله تبارك الرحمن احب حياة هذي❤
brings back good memories of the blackberrys i had yrs ago in my backyard...id pick them an make pies...so delicious
Looks so good Justine. Always a joy to watch you bake. ❤
God bless you both.🙏❤️💙
You do such a beautiful job making the cust & pie! It always makes me hungry watching you cook! Thank you 😊 looking forward to your next video!
Nothing like wild blackberries! Pie, crumble,jam......all delicious!
That looks absolutely delicious! What a lovely pie.
I watch these videos every night before falling asleep
I love these videos. I would have loved living back in those days. I'm tired of working for a company, that doesn't care for nothing more than money. I'd rather wear out my body working for my family and me.
