    That pie looks incredible! I have been to Knott's Berry Farm, as well as Disneyland, and my family and I think that Knott's is better!! The last time I was there, it was so much fun! We used to drive to Los Angeles from Chicago, so you took me on a trip down memory lane. However, I had no idea about the fried chicken dinner. If I go back, I will be sure to get that!
    I knew it was originally a farm, but I did not know about the cafe or the ghost town. Thanks so much for educating me. You interweave history into your recipes so well--so professionally--you should have your own show on TV!! I loved the color of that pie, btw--and I pretty much always use frozen berries as well. It's always inconvenient when they come in 10 ounce bags, lol.
    Once again, great video. You know I love my pies, haha--and happy belated birthday

      Oh wow! What a drive!! Knott's is hands down my favorite. Although it is changed dramatically since I was young. They took out so many cool things that shaped my childhood. But that is what memories are for, right? If you go back...DEFINITELY get the whole chicken dinner, BOMB!!! Thank you so much Parnell! You are the PIE GUY so your words mean so much to me!!! This is my husband’s favorite pie, (like you, this is what he always wants for a birthday cake), but I was NEVER able to find boysenberries, and I spent most of my life in SoCal! Where did you get the boysenberries? I’m way up north now, blackberries are plentiful, but it’s just not the same. Our family spent a lot of time at Knott’s with the kids, especially at Halloween. P.S., did you ever go to Calico?

    • @yesterkitchen
      @yesterkitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your hubby has excellent taste!! Boysenberries are tough to find! You would think they wouldn't be but they are. I found them here...nwwildfoods.com/product/fresh-frozen-boysenberries/ But they are pretty expensive for berries. Blackberries are a really good substitute but I agree, they aren't quite the same. I went to many Knott's Scary Farm nights, but in my old age, I don't dig on getting scared anymore, lol! Calico in the park? I just love reading your comments! Have a great one Taylor!! 💖🍸

      YesterKitchen, no girl, Calico ghost town, is in the Calico mountains near Barstow, which is halfway between LA & Vegas. Calico was a silver mining town that went boom & bust in the 1880’s, a real ghost town. Walter & Cordelia had a homestead nearby in Newberry Springs in the early 50’s (there was a lot of water from the mountain springs there back then, not so much anymore). Walter Knott restored the buildings in Calico to their original condition, and he styled his little western town at Knott’s on what Calico was like. Calico was run as a tourist attraction, and still is. Walter Knott donated Calico to San Bernardino County in the 60’s and it’s now a historical landmark. Europeans who are fascinated with the western U.S. & old Route 66 go there a lot. Most of us local desert kids had summer jobs there. I worked in the candy store.

    I love Knott’s Berry Farm! I have a pass. I’m currently in the process of growing my very own Boysenberry plants that I bought from one of my local grocery stores and of course I immediately wanted to take that opportunity to buy them ‘cause I absolutely love boysenberry I wanted to get ‘me before they sold out, 🌱 and I already have plans to one day use them after they grow to make a pie filling out of them like this one and to top them off on my my homemade funnel cakes and other desserts and I was wondering, do they have be frozen after I’ve picked them or can I still rinse them and cook them fresh after I’ve picked them??? I just planted them and it’ll take about a year from now for my boysenberries to grow. What do you suggest? Lmk when you get a chance please. Thank you! 🙂
