    I think it's one button with push or pull so you can basically shift with one hand. But as far as I know you can also get the traditional shift paddles instead of the buttons if you want to.

    As a 997 911 owner I have always loved the way the Boxster handles but it's chassis can handle way way more power!

    The shift paddles must be optional with the PDK. Other reviews have real paddles now instead of buttons.

    Great review (as usual Emmie) and love the car. Not so crazy about the beige interior but I bet the black looks better.

      Agreed, mines all black, carpet, leather seats black, less cleaning and more easy to be ignored, been using wide masking tape and just dab and press rubbish and sand, l live in Hawaii, which is what Porsche boxster was supposed be driven in, 24 7 ,top down, all year. 2006 S tipomatic, artic silver, and 1 owner, every day driver well maintained no bearing issues. 2019 fathers day, and no REGRETS and complaints, and a chicks car,?? agreed, chicks, babes ,always give me compliments and say they love it and I ain't complaining, cause l love chicks and the bikinis are getting better every single day and they love it. Aloha,and ladies ,men in Hawaii are just as HOT! kinda like Jason M looking guys everywhere every thing is pretty much Beautiful being in paradise!!

    I worked for an Electric Power Steering company and the systems really do provide an extra 1-2 mpg (depending on type of vehicle) and have as much weight and feel as the companies request... so whether the steering is light or heavy not only depends on your vehicle speed and the amount of torque you request but also on what Porsche, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, etc. want it to feel like. :)

    yes I'm aware of the cayman/boxster difference, but thanks for clarifying for everyone else :) I just love the styling of the Cayman so much more.

    It does have paddles. The first one we drove had the buttons on the steering wheel. It was my first time with those buttons. Not sure I liked them as I'm used to paddle shifters, but maybe if I had had more time in it I would change my tune.

    According to various car company engineers start/stop technology saves about 1.5% in MPG. Using electric steering, start/stop technology, newer efficient alternators, and electric fans is good for about a 3% savings. The savings definitely adds up.

    I heard somewhere it equals out where the engine stops for 7 seconds. anytime 8 seconds and on saves gas, anytime under 7 seconds uses more gas

    You're right we usually test cars w/more features. We like to test as many features as possible. If we get a stripped down version then we don't have the opportunity to do that.

    Emme, would you prefer this Porsche to the electric Tesla Boxster you once reviewed? because both of them look great! Keep it up with the interviews!!

  • @roadfly
    @roadfly  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree 100%. They should always be fixed on the column if you're going to track a car. Steering wheel works fine for spirited driving through the mountains but is a big negative on the track. What the manufacturers will tell you is that if the buttons aren't where you need them then reach for the stick. I don't agree w/that though.

    It takes most fuel when the motor is just idleing so turning it off in thick traffic, red lights or stop signs saves fuel since the engine don't stand still enough to get cold.

    Nice introduction video. You should talk more about the cabin quality and the optimum options to choose. Can I get away with 20" wheels without PASM? Should you choose Sport+ with PDK even if you don't care about launch control?

    I think the main point is to save fuel in start-stop city driving, which tends to have a higher average fuel consumption.

  • @RicardoSS85

    If you're going for the PDK, please configure the car with the Sport steering wheel, with the paddleshifts. This base steering wheel is just ridiculous...

  • @roadfly
    @roadfly  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Remember that in the high-end sports car market the manufacturers use plastic because it's light weight. There are cheaper plastics and plastic hybrids avail. what they're all going for is weight savings. Remember this is a sub-3000 lb car which is pretty incredible considering all the safety and electronics gear it has.

    why are all the paddles/buttons on the steering wheels and not the attached to the steering column?! if you in a sharp turn and your hands have changed positions, you have to look around for the buttons/paddles. what is your opinion?

  • @MagicAyrtonforever
    @MagicAyrtonforever 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks great, make sure you get the S!

  • @Chris.Davies
    @Chris.Davies 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why are you not sitting in the seat? Half your back, and none of your shoulders are in contact with the car seat!
    I appreciate you want to be close to the wheel, but that's why the car has adjustable seats.
    With shoulders against the seat, arms straight out, hands can hang over the back of the top of the wheel. That's the correct driving position for a Porsche.
    When you push your outer hand up nicely (as you do) you rotate your thumb so it goes outside of the steering wheel. Keep it inside.

  • @marshknute
    @marshknute 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can understand the desire to test more features, but I'm talking more specifically about the engine choice. I have only been able to find 1 review of a non-S model Boxster (a 2009 model). There's very little journalist feedback about the 2.7 L Boxster vs the 3.4 L Boxster S, despite the fact that a 2.7 can be purchased with all the features roadflytv wants for its reviews (PDK, ceramic brakes, PASM, Sport Chrono, etc). Any opinion on whether the S-model's extra 50 hp is worth $11,400?

  • @MagicAyrtonforever

  • @mojojojo911
    @mojojojo911 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Emma, you said the start stop feature helps get this car 30mpg on the highway... i find it funny cause you don't usually stop on highways. That feature is mainly used to get you 21mpg in the city but you already knew that.
    Secondly, I was ready to move on cause i kept thinking it was going to be the same reviewer who reviewed the bmw 1m coupe. I'm so glad i was wrong!!!
    Go Emme and Ross!

  • @roadfly
    @roadfly  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Haha. Believe it or not the Boxster has a lot more storage than some think. I think it would only get a one though. The rear engine compartment offers a lot of extra storage but won't fit a laundry basket.

    Now does that start stop function actually help use less gas. I thought that when you started a car, it requires more gas. But I don't know haha.

  • @marshknute
    @marshknute 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Roadflytv: Why is it that I never see reviews of base model Porsches? It doesn't matter if I watch a review of a Boxster, Cayman, 911, Panamera or Cayenne; every review features an S-model (or Turbo model). Is it a marketing strategy by which Porsche only supplies expensive models with the hopes that people buy the exact car they read about, or do the review agencies simply choose the higher trim levels?

  • @smashbro5
    @smashbro5 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can see how that start/stop thing might help fuel consumption in the city, but wouldn't it do nothing on the highway where you may not stop for several hours?

  • @jyoon79
    @jyoon79 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Boxster S starts at 60k and the regular Boxster starts at 49k...a boxster s with a few options will be around 70+k...there are a lot of cars you can get for that kinda cash. so is it worth it??

    beautiful car! I probably would have gotten this if I wanted a 2-seater. But for college I need to fit people! haha
    Also, with the buttons, are up-shifts and downshifts on the same button?(push vs. pull). So you only really need one had to shift up or down. Or do the buttons work just like the paddles? (right = upshift, left = downshift)

  • @egushlak
    @egushlak 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As great as an additional 1% fuel savings is, a Porsche differentiates itself from the rest of the market MAINLY because of its legendary steering feel. Why they would go to electric steering(albeit probably the best application of it) over a solid mechanical linkage is beyond me

  • @AdamSPARTAN76

  • @reevsaj

    The Boxter is really becoming more of its own car, rather than just a baby 911.

  • @BYSMA4th
    @BYSMA4th 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you driven the older Boxster? Probably based on looks that was the impression people had but honestly they saved a bit of money by not making new doors/front end and used that money on the layout and chassis setup. Drive one, I bet you won't think its the wannabe 911. The Boxster/Cayman outhandled the 911s of the time so if anything the 911 was the car that did not succeed.

      They're trying to differentiate the Boxster. The 911 needs to keep the round headlights...the 1 time they diverted (996) resulted in a revolt among the purists. The 997 was barely different but is FAR more valuable, simply because they turned to more traditional 911 styling. They can get away with more with the Boxster/Cayman, since it's still finding its identity.

      I know a lot of people just hate Porsche. Expensive cars are like football teams: none of us will be super athletes, so we're super critical of the guys who are. The same kinda applies to the cars we can't afford.
      For example, my wife thinks they're ugly. But maybe I can use that as my excuse for not owning one, lol.
