I worked inpatient psych for a few years, currently in the ED. I hope that I can obtain an outpatient/clinic job when I graduate with my Psych NP. On the floors, it's not safe. I think I could do a prison system. At least there is some distance, others around. Also, they need to bring back lots of permanent housing for a lot of these patients. Soo many mental health patients can't function on their own. It's a joke. In my experience they decompensate as soon as they're dicharged. Half of them are homeless, not cognitively functional to go to the pharmacy and take the meds as prescribed, expected to meet with a case manager by appt. However, those manipulative ones😑🤬 .

This is true they need some permanent housing.. I spoke with a patient that said He was safer in prison than on the streets because he can’t get his meds on the streets and without his meds he decompensate .the mental health system is a disaster and you are right it’s not safe.
