  • How does the eufy Floodlight hold up to the Ring Floodlight Camera? If you're looking for a wireless, no subscription fee, and privacy first floodlight camera, then you should be taking a closer look at the eufy Floodlight cam. It may not have all of the smart home integrations of Ring cameras, but eufy has created a very compelling camera that stands up there with the eufyCam E and Video Doorbell. Let's review.

    We’ve only had the cameras up and running for a short time. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe So far we love them! I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.

    I agree with your position! My cameras, my property, my data! I do not trust big companies; they all have agendas and will not hesitate to act in their best interest.
    I just made my first Eufy purchase and can't wait to get them delivered and installed.

    Hey Matt, I have a been a huge youtube viewer for years but never really leave comments, but I have been blown away from the your videos. The presentation, description and detailed information is perfect. I felt I had to come on here and let you know. My top priorities for home automation sound like yours too, e.g. Privacy and lack of subscription. I know that subscription services are a strong business model [razor and razor blade], but I hate them. I was lead to eufy because of those features and your channel because of your eufy reviews. I’m mostly Apple in my technology products mostly because of my wife and simple integration. I’m leaning toward HomeKit for the appearance of privacy. Thanks for your time and video’s.

      Appreciate that, Lance. It does sound like we're similar in what we're looking for and what products we like to use (I'm Apple too). Of the big three options on the market (Google, Amazon, and Apple), Apple Homekit really has the strongest privacy first design. I'm using Hubitat as the central brain for a lot of my gear, but I have HomeBridge setup and sharing everything with Apple Homekit. Love being able to control and set up automations through the Home app.

    Hey Matt - thanks for the excellent review. One area you briefly touch on which has been a major reason I'm shopping for a new camera system, is Ring's hard cap on view length of 30-seconds. I've got Ring cameras around the house right now, and there is no way to extend them past a 30-second recording window from when they first detect motion. I've got a larger yard that generally takes more than 30 seconds to traverse, so by the time a delivery person (or trespasser) gets to the door, the Ring camera has stopped recording. Ideally I'd want a video recording system that would just continuously record so long as there's motion, and not arbitrarily cut off, or at least have this configurable. Have you found a difference on this when testing Eufy vs Arlo? It's not a part of the feature set that's discussed on virtually any review, but in my use case it's a frustrating dealbreaker for Ring.

    What has stopped me from getting into home automation from the google and Apple type vendors is that I am not willing to give more data to anyone. Not inside the home for sure. id highly recommend cloud subscription. it's a security system, you want it to store your footage safely, what is the point of a cctv system where the burglar can locate your hub and steal that to destroy the evidence

    • @thugpug4392
      @thugpug4392 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Professional_TH-cam_Commenter Doubt the average burglar will plan out a raid that elaborate. If someone's raiding a home with clear cameras they probably aren't the brightest or influenced by emotions or substances. Even if they did locate the hub and destroy it, as he showed in the original tutorial you can store data in a personal bank. You could send it to the cloud that way.

    We had a break-in which motivated me to research home security systems. I went with Ring mostly for the user interface. My biggest complaint is the lack of POE to overcome WiFi jamming with the only option of the Stick Up Elite with no light. I’m pairing one with the floodlight to hope that linking them will set the floodlight on before they get close enough to jam it. The cloud only bothers me if the camera is capturing part of my neighbors property and I like the person detection feature that can only get better over time.

    Matt, with the app for floodlight control, do you have the ability to program the flood lights to stay on for a dusk to dawn (astronomical) time set, or is it strictly a specific hour/minute entry only? Also, are you able to program the time in which the lights dim? For example, on at dusk (or specific hour/minute) at full lumens, then reduce to 50% at 10pm, then off at dawn (or specific hour/minute)...

    I bought the Reolink Argus PT, but I will have to move it to a less critical area because the sensor lag over my garage can be as much as 5 seconds. That means I get many clips of people leaving the frame. I wish reviewers had shown this weakness so I could have avoided this camera.

    I like the idea as well of local storage and control. However, with this device I have to say the lack of “network” storage is a turn off for me. Built in storage won’t protect me from someone ripping the unit off the mount unfortunately.
    I understand that there is a balance between features, power saving, price, etc and I don’t know a lot about cameras (yet - but the wife wants me to put these next on the list), but there must be cameras that have a ‘hub’ to control the smarts plus storage. This way it can be placed inside the home to add more protection to thrift?

I think it's probably an edge case that someone steals a floodlight off your home (mine's too high to get without a ladder). What happens if your light is on a regular light switch? does it lose settings if the switch is turned off? Also I had a question on your experience with the Eufy cams, have the sealed batteries but from what I have read they only last for 2 or 3 years before they stop charging. A battery can only take so many cycles of charging and a sealed battery and a cam at that cost, hmmmm I am hesitating pulling the trigger picking one up

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have my eufy Floodlight in that exact situation. If you accidentally (or purposely) flip that switch, the camera won’t lose its settings. When it turns back on it’ll connect back to the Wifi and operate like you left it. As for the battery situation on the EufyCam, I get the concern, but I’m personally not worried about it. A typical lithium ion can handle 500 to 1000 charging cycles over its useful lifespan. This one you’ll be charging once (maybe twice) per year. My old Arlo Pro had user replaceable batteries that I never touched in almost five years ... and they still are working just fine.

    Yesterday I replaced my Ring Floodlight cam with a Eufy Floodlight cam. That was the final step in transitioning from a "Ring / Blink" home to an all Eufy home (I had already replaced my doorbell and 2 other outdoor security cameras). I love the local storage for privacy and avoiding monthly fees. I also like that the Eufy floodlight cam lets me turn the lights on at a dim level from dusk to dawn and then jump to full brightness when motion is detected. The only 2 minor issues I've found are 1) I prefer the warmer color temp of the Ring floodlights and 2) I wish the Eufy Floodlight cam had the same HDR feature they have in their doorbell. I have contacted Eufy and they said they may add that in a future software update. Overall, I am very happy with all my Eufy products.

      @@NA0533 I only use Apple's HomePods and/or my iPhone to control my smart home devices so I don't know for sure if it would work with Google Home Hub. I am 99% sure I could pull it up with an Amazon Echo Show and I THINK it works with Google Home Hub but I have not tested it. I've been using the Eufy Floodlight cam for about a month now and I absolutely love it.

    Can the Eufy be mounted under and eave? I have a Ring mounted under an eave with no problems. And like you, I like local storage. I use my Ring floodlight and doorbell as time markers to look at my hardwired system, but would rather get away from the subscription costs and privacy issues.

    Ive had the ring flood cam for going 2-3 yearsI believe. Its done me well tbh but I even so and though ive been looking into expanding the cameras, I haven't invested in them anymore since their promises for HomeKit integration have not materialised for years hence I, like many others begrudge to give them more money.

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s something that has become part of my buying decision rules: only buy based on what it does now and not what’s promised. It’s part of the reason I keep dinging Eufy for the lack of IFTTT and other integrations. If those are important to you, I’d recommend waiting on buying any product until it’s there and working.

    Excellent video, the lack of support for sending the video to a NAS is a bit of a bummer... I currently use a Reolink C1 Pro for video recording, which does support sends the data to a NAS but I find it a bit harder to set up for scenes...
    Incidentally, what do you use to detect that the house is unoccupied or occupied to trigger scenes? And is it capable of working with both iOS and Android devices?

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As of right now, the cameras aren’t tied into my smart home setup, so I’m only able to use the built in scheduling functionality. Eufy has said they’re working on geofencing, which should be out this year ... but until they get something like IFTTT integrated, we’re stuck with whatever is built into their app.
      My smart home in general though is built on top of Hubitat right now. I’m using that to track our smart phones as presence sensors to trigger home and away modes for scenes with everything that’s integrated.

    do you which one would be more suited to going down the narrow side of a house, so you would need to turn the camara hard left (does it do that), also one light would be hard left, the other hard right... I wont want to direct the light forward and the movement would come from the left of the camera

    The privacy issue is not a concern for myself. All of my cameras are external. The RING offers me more product selection. I do wish I had the capability to DVR my videos at home, but it is not that important to me. More of a desire than a need. I just wish there was better integration between Ring and my alarm system.
