    UPDATE: Eufy put out Firmware 2.2.1.1, which has fixed the stuttering video issue for me. They've also added a WDR (wide dynamic range) toggle for the doorbell. And they've added a "streaming to smart displays" configuration, which has dramatically reduced the latency in the video loading on things like the Google Nest Hub. All more reasons why I recommend their products. They're constantly updating their systems.

      @@yjkader, I would say yes since it has good response and the visual area is good size. Try it and let us know how it works for you, and the differences it has to your surveillance camera.

    The mere fact that we even have to specify that something like a doorbell should be subscription free tells me that there is something very wrong in this world.

    • @Professional_Youtube_Commenter
      @Professional_Youtube_Commenter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      you can buy ones that are offline, you have your own home server which stores the footage. But with the subscription all your recordings are stored on the cloud. I am anti subscription generally. Until i got a ring and pay the 2.95 a month to have the footage stored on the cloud. It's peace of mind knowing that any security footage is stored offsite so thieves dont take the evidence with them on a home server.

    Love the BATTERY version of the Eufy Doorbell. The Homebase 2 acts as a second doorbell, stores videos INSIDE the house on internal storage, and Homebase 2 fully integrates and controls other Eufy security products like motion sensors (I have 5) and cameras in addition to sounding a MOTION ALARM when triggered by the sensors. Security modes are completely configurable in the app for each attached device which is convenient. The Eufy phone app has a "home" mode and an "away" mode that just requires a single button to switch. What isn't mentioned in this review is that Eufy also has a WEBSITE whereby live video from the battery doorcam can be viewed on any device with a browser. That video is delayed 3 seconds from what you see on your phone app but being able to check the video on a PC or smartTV really gives this Eufy product some nice capabilities. Also not mentioned is that "slow" delay with seeing the live camera feed on your Google Display can be fixed with a setting in the app option called "streaming to Alexa/Google" under the settings button on the doorbell camera. If you select "Smart Display First" then it takes only about 6 - 7 seconds to see your livestream on your Google display and your phone image is essentially unaffected. Yes oddly, the BATTERY version offers the most features than the WIRED version....I love mine!

    Great review. A lot of good points. One point that reviewers seem to be missing or glossing over is detection and reporting comparison and testing. From your review and one other, I purchased and installed the wired 2K version. Some things I like, but one thing that is on top of my don’t like list, is the false positives. The wired and battery versions differ in the detection settings. The wired version only has one slider combing several things into sensitivity including AI face and body detection. The battery has two independent settings. My door is 70 ft from the sidewalk and then the 2-lane road, but in clear view. This causes issues with regular motion but mainly with light moving at night, which looks like motion. I get different results after messing with the sensitivity and include zone, but nothing is satisfactory. Right now, I have the sensitivity at 2/5 (body) and a single column for include zone. IR is off with the porch well illuminated at night. It works pretty well this way during the day, only missing a few people, but where the problem lies is, I get about 4 false triggers an hour from sunset to sunrise, making it useless. There is no obvious motion in the image. If I move the sensitivity to 1/5 (head), I get very few false positive triggers, but also miss almost every visitor day or night.
    Proper alerting function is at the top of the list for my wife. The Ring Pro that I took down has its problems as well (mainly with IR and bugs), but its false positive rate is better than the eufy. What kills the Ring Pro is the unreliable trigger timing and glitches, and the terrible audio experience.
    The wired eufy 2k audio has a bug with Bluetooth headsets. I like the local encrypted storage without monthly fees. I wish it had RTSP for local streaming.

    I have a Ring 2 and was unhappily with the battery life with all the power hungry features enabled. I bought a charger that came fitted with 5 meters of lead and wired it to the doorbell and plugged it into the hallway socket. I now have 100 percent battery charge most of the time. It's well worth buying if you are able to drill a hole behind the doorbell into your home and have an available outlet.

    I bought mine day one to replace my original Ring Doorbell and haven't looked back. The lack of privacy from Ring is ultimately what pushed me away and let me overlook the minor integration gripes I have, which hopefully go away with future updates. It also looks better and I like that the ring will glow around the button, even when it is not hard-wired.

    Should I go with the old wired version or the new version? I do have wiring available to hardwire it. These are $135 vs $170 right now.
    I'm leaning towards the old wired version because of what you said about the 3-second pre-buffer and also the distortion control.
    I do like that the wired version does save the footage to the base station. But i also already have the Eufy Cam 2 which does the same already. I just wanted a second camera on my front door.
    Also what's the difference between HDR and WDR?

    I started with the Eufy cam 2 at home and like all good tech it works without a lot of fuss on my part. So when I decided to get a video doorbell for my flooring store in town I watched several reviews by different people and with my experience chose the Eufy battery doorbell. Setup and integration with the app was smooth as expected. Now the not so good! I had it setup to recognize people and objects. I set the activity zone to avoid the road that passes in front of store some 50 yards from the door. I had a truck and trailer pull into the drive; park and walk to the door. He was inside and we had already started for the warehouse before i got a notification. Thats fine considering I am using this mostly for when i'm away. After he left I reviewed the footage and had less than a second of footage that had his face before he opened the door. I expected footage when he entered the parking lot. I really expected footage of him walking to the door. the last person of the day that came in didn't even setoff the camera at all. Also during my initial testing of talking to someone over the microphone from my phone and their ability to hear me of the doorbell speaker was choppy and they couldn't quite hear me over the road noise. The canned responses you can have the system repeat to the person at the door was a lot better. This issue might have more to do with my internet speed and latency than the doorbell itself. The missed recordings I lay more as an issue with the system. I did the firmware update as part of the initial setup. I have only had about 4-5 hours of use with the product and feel that I might have been better off with the security camera setup with its built in speaker/mic capability. I just figured the doorbell would be a more low key approach to security and customer interaction.

      @HOSER55 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I purchased the Battery Powered doorbell after asking Eufy that question. You can wire it in. I liked the idea the recordings were inside on the Home Base versus outside in the doorbell enough to pay the added $40 for the Battery powered unit. It works just fine and in fact the installation guide shows you both step by step for Battery and Hard Wired.

      -Wired version has the 3 second buffer
      -Wired version has HDR
      -Wired version has distortion correct
      -Wired version has on-board storage
      Those are some of the features you get in the wired version, so if you have provisions to run wires, you're better off getting the wired version for the above features.

I am also concerned about some of the performance issues of the battery version, so I am having trouble deciding which one to buy.

    Another issue that was found is when the doorbell picks up motion and starts recording, but someone rings the bell, it stops the recording when the live feed starts. In addition as soon as the 2 way communication is started the video and audio recording stops. Which kind of defeats the purpose if you want a recording of an unwanted interaction at the door. This “error” lead to massive delays in communication with both parties wondering if the audio was working at all. This has been posted on forums as well as picked up by another reviewer. Has the new firmware update addressed these issues yet?

  • @glovedcop69

    But the wired version doesn't have a home base so the storage is on the actual doorbell itself? So if something happens to the doorbell wouldn't it seem better to get the wireless version even if you have existing wiring? One thing to sacrifice is live view? Or am I wrong? The issue I’m having is motion notifications to my iPhone 14, spoke to eufy , they acknowledged,that they have been having a lot of users with that problem. Still waiting news from them. Have you come up with this fault?

    I use eufy wireless cctv and they are really good ,as for there doorbell it's very easy to remove it with the tool provided then charge. They say 6 month battery right but for arguments sake lets say it lasts 3 months between charge at 5hrs per.
    4 time charge per year at a total of say 20hrs is not a problem for most people so I will definitely be buying that one especially with it's local storage. Great review btw.

I wanted to buy this new wireless Eufy because it's easy to install and has 16Gb of storage, but, I can't buy it because I can't respond from an Echo Show, that's too bad. We recently changed our home security provider and the wired Skybell® was included. It has the lowest resolution and 720p but, it doesn’t look too bad because the doorbell is perpendicular to the entry door. Our porch is small and the subjects are forced to enter the screen door first then since it’s a small area it captures the face good enough and it activates by motion and notifies us instantly which is desirable. Of course, it comes with its own cloud storage included with the price so, I have no control over the video. Not the best night vision but, good enough. The audio picks up a lot of background noise like wind and road roar. I can chat with the subject at the door which great. It's not the Eufy® so, for now, I’ll deal with it.

      Thanks for sharing, Nate. My take on these doorbells is that as long as you can make out faces clearly, that's all that matters. That's part of why I don't see some of the low frame rate issues as real issues. You can still make people out and talk to them in real-time.

  • @gbinman
    @gbinman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize this is long after the video was posted. Last Christmas I received a Ring Peephole camera as a gift with an extra battery. The second battery is very handy. As you mentioned, it mostly records people walking away. My door faces the street so it rings with all the passing cars. Without the subscription it's even more useless. Last night I was charging up a new Eufy 2k battery doorbell which will be installed this morning. I opted for the battery version because I like the homebase storage rather than on the device. I hope it is better at detecting movement directly toward it. I know that is a limitation of PIR detection.

    I have the Ring doorbell 2 but really don't like paying the monthly fee. I thought the eufy doorbell would be a good swap until I saw the TH-cam review comments. There is no physical protection for the eufy doorbell similar to Ring doorbell with the security screw and there is no replacement scheme from eufy either if the doorbell is stolen. Without a physical security mechanism, the doorbell can be stolen quite easily. Also I have doubts if the recording on the hub will be kept if there is no doorbell connected any longer i.e the thief Resets the doorbell. This is the case with eufycams such as eufycam 2 Pro. Some users tried out this and had the dire consequences. This makes the whole security setup null and void. I would love to hear if anybody has tried this and the result was different, may be eufy could have had SW patch. My view is that if the HW has been designed such that the Reset is hard wired to restart the firmware and thus no longer keeps the last pairing. Having read numerous such reports, I believe the eufycams fall far short of what is desirable. Thanks and look forward to your responses.

    Great review, i would say one of the only things your missing which was why i watched your whole video for is the battery life, realistic, so showing maybe how events it recorded for you over how many days and what battery percentage it used. I heard for some people you need to charge it after 30 days, i think it depends on how many recordings it does. Disabling motion detection can massively safe battery, with that said can you schedule motion on a timer? So record motion at night and not during day? But during day it records soon as button is pressed? 🤷🏻‍♂️ the main concern is battery life, how long does it actually last in real world because what they advertise is never realistic, same for the 365 cams
