I have had the same unit for about 3-4 years. My gripes are three. 1) it’s bright! To bright at night. I usually just put my hat over the whole thing at night. Was hoping they would come out with green or red numbers not just white. 2) The background options are to busy. The purpose of this unit is to see the engine parameters. Not more busyness. I talked to the manufacturer after I bought it and encouraged them to give the gauges a stock look with stock colors. “Crickets” 3) the touch screen is temperamental. Works with a high level of frustration. All that said, it’s still in my truck and am glad it’s there. But, looking forward to using an iPad or equivalent for this function in the future.
If you got it 3-4 years ago then you might have the original CTS so this might not apply. 1) On this unit I can set the brightness levels to whatever level I want it at. So it doesn’t bother me at all at night. 2) I can also choose a custom background. Right now I have an American flag, but if I could easily do a strait black background and make it super simple. 3) I agree the touch screen is not amazing. If you have the CTS 2 then you should totally be able to fix the first two issues you are having.
I went with the ScanGaugell pre programmed from Bullet Proof Diesel. Plugs into OBD port just like this. Will read all the sensors. I paid $169.00 for it. I think the pillar gauges are too busy and give a cluttered look.
Thanks for this quick breakdown. I'm also in Oregon. I've watched a lot reviews on Edge products. I like the CTS2 because it can monitor a slew of PCM sensors and I didn't have to put gauge pods on my pillar. I also had the same issue with the Monitor coming back and draining my batteries. I am having some issues tho, my monitor is taking way too long to boot up when I first start my engine. I have to select the Make of vehicle and confirm my VIN #. Not sure what's going on, I'm gonna contact Edge customer support to see if they can help figure his out. ALL in all, I do like this monitor/tunner. I have the CTS2 Insight w/Revolver chip on my Stock '01 7.3 Excursion.
Hmm. I don't know if this would solve it, but might try hooking it up to your computer and seeing if there is a software update for it. Mine probably takes 10-15 seconds to boot up once i turn my key. You shouldn't have to select the vin every time though. Only if it completely disconnects from power
I just bought one and hope to get it installed this weekend. I also got the EAS kit with the EGT probe. I am disappointed that to read fuel pressure from the filter Bowl I need a 0-100 sensor and another little harness which is another 300 for that.
Which EAS kit did you get? The one with just the EGT problem or was it the 3 sensor kit? It’s definitely more expensive to purchase them all individually. I agree though, it is a little disappointing seeing the price of the add on sensors. Like I said, it is a little more expensive than regular gauges but is FAR more capable in the long run. This is the kit I’d recommend: amzn.to/2Hr7TLc
Living On Wheels I didn't get that one. I got item # 98620 which is the one they recommended. I'll just get a fuel press gauge and check the fuel pressure at the filter from time to time.
I’m not really sure on the DPF stuff. I’ve never owned a truck new enough for that haha. I know you can go in and change measurement settings though. Could try that or call edge.
Thanks brother 👍🏻 What's the life expectancy of this unit? I have a buddy wants to sell me one for $75. It's about 5 years old. It can be updated I'm told and I'll have to pay $100 unlocking/reassigning fee. Total cost, $175 which is dirt cheap. My concern is what is the life expectancy? I'm probably going to go for it hopefully she's got another 5 years 😏
I wouldn’t be concerned about age. As far as unlocking it goes, unless it’s a juice with attitude model (aka tuner) then you should be able to install it on your truck without anything needing done.
@@LivingOnWheels Yes sir, and thank you for your timely response. The unit is locked to another vehicle/Truck. My diesel mechanic was saying that, if the unit did not provide tuning capabilities it would not have such a lock. Because it is locked down, it probably does have tuning capabilities. I do believe that this is the CST2 model touch screen. I placed a call to edge today and the man told me the life expectancy is about five years but of course they could last longer than that. It depends on how often it was used and also how it was taken care of. In comparison to the cost of a new one, it's really worth taking a chance on this deal in my humble opinion. My biggest reason is for monitoring purposes. I just had a remaned Ford 6.0 engine put into the truck. Until I've got a better handle on the usage of such a device, I probably won't be monkeying around with it too much. I do however, want to monitor the goings on. I have plugged the device in to the truck and it will not let me do anything because it is locked to another vehicle.
Coming from a 6.0 I just bought my first 7.3. Did the 6637 filter a 5" straight pipe diamond eye exhaust and the hydra chip. I was thinking of autometer or isspro quad pillar gauges but man are they expensive! Glowshift is out of the question had them on my 6.0 and they were garbage. I'm definitely interested in the cts2. Do you need a sensor for the boost? Mines a 2000 7.3 I want to monitor all the fuel parameters egt, trans and boost.
I am really happy with the CTS. You can read the boost through the stock MAP sensor, but if you start pushing over 25lbs and add a boost fooler to stop defueling then you'll probably need to add a boost sensor. Unfortunately our trucks didnt come with fuel pressure sensors or EGT probes. I had to add those to mine. Even with adding the sensors I do think the CTS is still worth it.
Does your battery voltage take a minute to come up? Min sits at 12 .4 for about 60 seconds after it starts and then jumps up to 14 volts. Is this normal? Thanks for the video on the CTS.
Totally normal. What you are seeing is your glow plugs. A lot of people don’t know this but your wts light isn’t actually tied to your glow plugs. They stay on for around 60 seconds before shutting off.

The truck really wakes up with the PHP. But boost will not budge past 15PSI. I unplugged the red wastegate hose tonight, and again 15PSI. My question, did you install a separate boost sensor? Or are you running with what the factory PCM supplies. It almost seems like my Edge monitor is not displaying the correct boost reading. This is a 100k mile truck, everything else in great health.
I do have a separate boost sensor since I’m pushing 32 psi but you stock map sensor should be good to 25 psi. Make sure you don’t have a boost leak or boost fooler

Gotta take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. It has 175 reviews averaging out to 4 stars which isn't bad I would say is probably an accurate rating. I ask this because I'd like to purchase the Edge CTS3 for my 2000 7.3 CCSB and would like to avoid this potential issue if possible. Thanks in advance for you help!!
Yes I believe it does. I’ll say this though, after seeing the CTS3 in person, it boots up so fast that I doubt you’ll have this issue with it.
I sold mine it was throwing codes, I took to dealer and rest with there computer and no problems since.
What kind of codes was it throwing? All it does is read signals from the computer, so it shouldn't even be able to trigger a code.
It was odd it made truck run bad not sure if wire was bad. But it threw 6 codes. Unplugged and truck ran great and had ford reset.
@@brook7880 Was it just the plain Insight or was it the "with Attitude" tuner version?
It was the plain cts2 I just went to gauges and superchips to read codes. I like edge products but after it cost me at ford I figured heck with it tell I know truck better.
Does this monitor come with a egt reader
No. That is sold separately
@@LivingOnWheels how do you wire that egt reader to the monitor
@@crffilmz7300 through Edges EAS expansion kit. I used their competition kit so I could monitor egts and fuel pressure. You can get the kit for the the egt probe though.

Good video, but after checking out the Amazon link and all the bad reviews, I''m surprised you bought the Edge.
Gotta take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. It has 175 reviews averaging out to 4 stars which isn't bad I would say is probably an accurate rating. I can only speaks for my own experience but after 3 years of owning and using mine, if I had to make the choice again knowing what I know now I would still honestly buy it again. It definitely could be improved by edge but with all the different things this thing is capable of it is far more valuable than analog gauges in my opinion. Not to mention people have analogue gauges fail too.
From my experience with it over the last 3 years I am still glad I bought it. Despite a few relatively minor issues/annoyances that I mentioned in the video.
Less music more truck
