Click is my favorite Adam Sandler film. It starts off as a typical funny Sandler comedy but then morphs into a sad heartbreaking drama. The scene where he sees his dad for the last time always makes me tear up. That movie didn't deserve the hate.
I fully agree. I can't believe anyone can hate that movie it isn't only my favourite Sandler movie, but one of my favourite of all time. I'm generally not a huge Sandler fan, but Click was different from most of his other movies and I have a soft spot for father and son/daughter relationships being explored like this and Interstellar (my favourite movie of all time).
I agree... I am not a Sandler fan but click showed me that he does know how to act. It's like Adam Sandler's version of Jim Carrey's The Truman Show... Both movies showing silly comedians can really act.
I'm actually so confused... I didn't know people hated it!! Haha I remember seeing it in theaters and crying my eyes out. And everyone I knew loved it too.
I can't rewatch that movie because the existential dread that comes along with it would keep me up at night lol. Really great genre-switch midway through the movie. I'm sure it caught almost everyone off guard.
What's weird though is that this isn't really a bad thing. Adam Sandler's movies between '95 and '05 are a part of American culture. Like you said, Audience tastes changed after that, but man Uncut Gems was good :)
Adam Sandler's films between '95 & '05 are a part of *_Western_* culture. Like the narrator said, audience tastes changed after that, but America was not the only audience who liked, then disliked, his films over that decade long era.
Grown Ups is still one of my favorite PG-13 comedies of all time. It's so well done and I don't think it deserves any of the predisposed hate just from Adam Sandler being in it
I agree, but probably because I am at that age where your best friends sort of begin to drift apart (we get married, have kids, move, etc). So the idea of us all having a big reunion with our future spouses and kids, seems like a nice thing to look forward. Grownups kind of (at least to me) is more of a looking glass into the future, of something that I hope I can achieve.
Man for real, every time I've seen it mentioned on TH-cam it's a critic ripping it apart while the opinion I se from regular people is very different. My family and friend all remember it fondly
One other thing, in every movie there is a positive message or "moral lesson", it's not just someone acting stupid, there is always a positive message that makes you feel good: "money is not everything", "family first", "be tolerant towards those different to you", "caring for someone instead being selfish", etc.
While Sandler's type may be the dim-witted man child who can't grow up, there's a sheer likability about his characters which make us root for them to prevail.
Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and several other comedians tend to play only one kind of character or trope. South Park actually parodied Schneider's films in that regard.
@@SergioLeonardoCornejo Right, he's hardly the only one. If you've got a marketable character and don't mind the risk of being typecast, that can work out very well. I feel like the fact that Adam Sandler proved that he can be a great dramatic actor in the 21st century was enough to prove that he was never at any point bad at what he did. His brand of humor is what made him a household name, and you could honestly call him a genius for finding a way to profit off of appealing to his audience in the right way. His 90s movies began to grow tiresome over time, and once they did, he shifted to a different genre that he also found success in. That’s enough to forgive all the poor critical reception he received early on.
I can't believe they failed to mention Reign Over Me, as one of his better performances. Drama with some bits of humor, I think it might be Sandler's best work he's ever done.

You should have mentioned "Reign Over Me" as one of his dramatic roles. Also, this is how I see "Grown Ups." It was made for the people who aren't from big cities, that didn't grow up around fancy thing, with lots of money, or around the L.A. vibe. I relate so much to it, and I feel like I'm watching my Dad and his friends goof around. Growing up, my Dad and his pals would constantly do over the top things to make us kids laugh. That's what those movies are. Guys from a small town, who are lifelong friends, pal-ing around, being goofballs, and reminding themselves that sometimes it's better to slow down, and enjoy life. It's not a movie for critics. It's a movie for regular people.
You know a lot of people on the internet hate on some things for whatever reason and people just buy into it. Fact is he wouldn’t be so famous if his movies didn’t make people laugh
I never thought I would argue this, but I don't think you are giving Sandler enough credit. I think the similarities between his characters are surface level and come down to quarks in Sandler's performance. He plays his characters in his early films with subtle differences. Billy Madison is more childlike as he is in a state of arrested development at the beginning of the movie, Happy Gilmore leans more into Sandler's rage, Bobby Bouche is more timid at the beginning of the film, and so on. To address your comment at the top of the video, because of these subtle character differences, I would have a hard time believing the scene shown would come from any film other than Billy Madison.
Blended should have been mentioned. A star-studded comedy where Adam gets to play not only a fun parent, but shows he can also take a more serious tone when needed, and help father kids that aren't his.

It's good that that wasn't mentioned because that was the Sandler film that broke me. Opening up with a blind date at Hooters, obnoxious over-the-top yelling in the same scene, a disturbingly creepy running gag Barrymore's disturbingly creepy son, Terry Crews as an over-the-top and offensive portrayal of an African... those are just what I remember. Pixels was his absolute breaking point (somehow beating out Jack & Jill).
To be fair, personally, I really liked "Click" and "Don't Mess With the Zohan". I think with those kinds of movies, it's important to know what to expect and not take them too seriously.
Zohan was a pleasant surprise. It’s the right kind of dumb comedy. Although the funniest moment goes to Zohan’s father when he scoops hummus up with his own glasses.
Anybody who does has NEVER seen it and only talks negatively about it because of the critic reviews/ numbers. It is a GREAT movie and even though I’m atheist there’s not many Chanukah based movies out there/ or at least that get any level of mainstream recognition whatsoever. It’s one of my top five (at least) Adam Sandler movies.
As I've gotten older, I've gotten to the point where I feel like I'd appreciate a cut of the movie with less of the gross-out humor, but I still love the movie as a whole. Well animated, great characters, great story, what more do you need?
Time-travel and regret-filled "Click" is my favorite movie of his. It was the movie that introduced me to his comedy when I was at the age I could understand his comedy. I watched all his older movies and had fun. In the 2010s, I was a teenager and found it a bit cringe, and Uncut Gems was not my cup of tea at the time, but I still find myself going back and watching his movies. Reminds me of a simple era, where man-child was something I saw on TV and not on the streets.
The Rock doesn't even change his accent even though realistically his character can't have a modern accent... People have such low standards and accept it lol
click - classic little nicky - classic ydmwtz - classic pixels - classic grown ups - classic also reign over me is an amazing movie that you didn’t mention
Ngl, Grown Ups has a special place in my heart. It was shown to me by my older brother (by 15 months) when I had just turned 12, & I could relate most of the characters to family members. It helps that at the time a significant amount of my external family were really close at the time & would go on holidays just like in the movie. What I would give to be back in that time...
It's crazy how Sandler's films seem universally liked and rake in so much, and yet you always of hear "critics" giving it the lowest of the low ratings. I've never personally met anyone who didn't like his movies and yet there's apparently some mysterious entire continent out there devoted to giving him a thumbs down.
Can you explore the movie Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell's character? His role in that movie is absolutely phenomenal and a huge departure from what Will Ferrell usually delivers in a performance. It's definitely worth the breakdown!
I agree. I enjoy seeing comedic actors step out of line for more dramatic roles. Shows their versatility. Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction, Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting, Jim Carey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Steve Carell in Foxcatcher, Sacha Baron Cohen in The Trial of the Chicago 7, Sarah Silverman in I Smile Back, Melissa McCarthy in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and before Philadelphia, Tom Hanks was really an exclusive comedic actor and after that, he made the switch to become one of the best dramatic actors in history, though he's still able to lean over to his comedic side when required. I also like seeing actors you'd never think of as a badass step into those shoes and break heads, like Bob Odenkirk in Nobody. That movie is insane 😵
Its amazing that he plays the same character in Punch Drunk Love but the world around him is normal and his character is a massive outcast. The bathroom destruction scene and the consequences of it is a great example.
Comics are like musicians. They write a set (of songs or jokes) and they play that same set over and over and people love them for it. So when comics move to film, what do they do? Their set, they just play their set until they find their feet as a actor. Going to these different Adam Sandler movies is like going to two shows from the same band. You know they're going to play the songs you've heard before, but you're ok with that because you like it.
That's kind of a dumb comparison, though. The Beatles wrote, recorded, and released Abbey Road. They didn't just re-record Rubber Soul for the fifth time.
Used to be Happy Gilmore, but then I became a father and rewatched big daddy. I immediately realized how much I personally relate to that movie, and I’m not ashamed to say it made me cry more than once. So now it has to be Big Daddy. But I do still put happy Gilmore and Billy Madison in the top 5, which also includes uncut gems and the criminally under acknowledged The Myorwitz Chronicles (I never connected to punch drunk love). Big shout out though to 50 first dates, Mr. Deeds, and even grown ups as honorable mentions.
Also Click made me cry. A very specific kind of person will connect to it deeply personally emotionally and I am that kind of person. It was so so overall but it got a few laughs and touched me profoundly with its message and emotional beats so I gotta give it an honorable mention too.
As a long time Adam Sandler fan the older I get the more I've come to realized that he always plays an over exaggerated version of himself. Betting IRL he's a really great guy that's had some hard times as a kid & learned to navigate life young using good laughter & close friends. Can't EVER meet him... _just in case_ I'm wrong! 😂😂
Great video. I grew up on Sandler movies and I love his brand of comedy. But I distinctly remember my first glimpse of his more serious dramatic skills in a 2007 movie called Reign on me. He costarred with Don Cheadle and blew my mind (and my tear ducts). I don’t understand why this movie is never mentioned. It was so good and he was great.
Well, I do agree that a lot of Adam Sandler characters especially in the 90s and early 2000s were similar. I think characters like the wedding Singer stand out as not being the same character.
It’s his voice and it worked for nearly 2 decades. Tyler Perry does something similar and flat out says long as it makes money, he has no intentions of deviating from it. Also a fun fact: the unexpected success of Water Boy allowed more budget and time for Big Daddy (all after filming had begun). Hence they were able to really decorate his loft setting, film more scene with Rob Schneider. It was due to water boys success that allowed more focus on a serious project of his
Spanglish is my favorite Sandler movie it’s soooooo good his romantic comedies are really amazing and him drew are a match made in cinematic heaven his catalogue is full of quotables and his ability to sing when needed laugh when wanted and bring emotion when deserved is highly underrated
Just gotta say "Little Nicky" is criminally underrated. Imo it's one of his funniest films. Not on "Billy Madison" level, but upper tier for sure. It's just funny in like, a "Goldmember" sort of way where you reeeeeealllllllyy have to turn your brain off. Like, more than normal. But when you do, it's really great.
Water Boy, Billy Madison, Click, Uncut Gems, Spanglish, Longest Yard, Eight Crazy Nights, Hustle, 50 First Dates, Mr. Deeds, Chuck & Larry, Happy Gilmore, Bulletproof and Funny People. As much as he likes to do goofy comedy he has more classics than just about anyone and he keeps his friends employed. Adam Sandler will always be a favorite of mine from childhood to adulthood.
Click is wildly underrated and is my favorite Adam Sandler movie. His obnoxious portrayal of characters always felt “extra” to me, but Click had a good balance where the character felt realistic while still funny. The ending of the film always makes me emotional and it feels like the ultimate lesson in living in the moment as opposed to being so future oriented
Great actor and great guy as well. Hes been able to keep a ton of people consistently employed for 25+ years under his Happy Maddison Productions. In such a cutthroat business where many dont know when there next job will be thats a big deal.
Really? Cuz there are movies that I like that are objectively terrible but I like them and at the same time know there bad. Did you really think don't mess with the Zohan was a good movie? cuz it was really bad
@Cody's Cards yeah I didn't say it doesn't have some genuinely funny stuff in it but it's not a "good movie" like I love little nicky and anyone who doesn't sucks in my opinion but I don't think it's an amazing movie or anything I just really like it
the same could be said about literally any actor. Like, if I ever see Dicaprio or Deniro in a movie where they aren't just playing themselves, I'll be absolutely stunned.
Adam Sandler is a creative genius. Even as a man who is chasing my 40s, I can still watch his movies with my students and laugh so hard. I think playing the same character might be one of the reasons he is so successful.
As were most 90’s comedic characters. And as a matter of fact, so we’re most characters in general. Many legends in acting did the same characters constantly. Robert De Niro for example. Not everything has to “subvert expectations” to be good... That being said, Adam Sandler movies always seemed kinda childish and meant for a younger audience. I don’t really enjoy his movies any more, but as a kid they were awesome.
I still could never understand why people dislike click and if the IMDB rating of 6.4 is trustworthy, it really shows that people actually like the movie just enough. So the lesson to be learnt should have been - do not listen to critics, they do not know anything.
I really liked all of Adams Netflix movies!! Father of the Year, The Wrong Missy, Hustle, Do-Over, Hubie Halloween… I don’t see why people are tripping over these movies. Study them!! They’re all good, funny films and yea have always been a fan of his 💃🏽
He's a very unique personality. He seems the actor who the same people who both love and hate at different times. As for me I hate his obnoxious comedies but like his lovable ones. Yet i pretty much like to love all of his dramatic performances.
My friends and I would watch his movies over and over in the 90s, and be crying laughing every time. Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer are classics and will remain two of my favorite movies. Tastes were different then they are now for movies, and especially comedies. There is nothing wrong with following a formula if its executed well and is hilarious every time.
I got an idea for an Adam Sandler movie, so like. Adam Sandler plays a guy who’s an asshole and he falls in love with a woman and he becomes not an asshole to win her over.
Somehow, Click was the first movie to ever make me cry. I was probably just in middle school when I saw it, but it holds a place in my heart for that reason alone....Also, Zohan is a guilty pleasure
When i was a kid Adam Sandler movies were always a delight to watch. His characters , though goofy or silly, were always easy to root for and were heartfelt. His supporting cast always had characters you either felt really good for or despised, and it shows how great Adam is at writing characters. Some of ny favorite adam Sandler movies are The Longest Yard, Eight crazy nights, the waterboy, billy Madison and Big Daddy.
I absolutely love the range Adam has displayed over the years while he was still full on committed to the fourteen year old comedy all fellow men children love like me. He’s always been the shit and dare say I put him up with Jim Carey and Robin Williams in depth and breadth. What I really get a kick out of is I believe we’ve yet to see his best but it’s coming. Last but not least the dude has a huge heart and big love for his family, friends and fans. Truly a story of a man who won great admiration, made everyone laugh their ass off and remember our “immaturity” was an endless source of funny and each time wove a message into his stories that was, well damn it was heartwarming. Rock on Adam, bring us some more!!!
Don’t recall this being mentioned. Years ago I noticed all his character names in this period end in an ‘ee’ sounds. Billy, Happy, Bobby, Robbie, Sonny, Nicky.
Waterboy is a movie I watched when I was little didn't remember it I knew it was funny but when I showed it to my little brother that's 7 years younger and his little friend we were all losing it! It's a movie I see once in a while to get a huge laugh! I showed them all the classics not sanders but Farley and spade movies too and they wanted to watch them all now they are 22 23 lol crazy how time flies.

8 Crazy Nights was total garbage. It deserves to remain hated.
click - classic
little nicky - classic
ydmwtz - classic
pixels - classic
grown ups - classic
also reign over me is an amazing movie that you didn’t mention
It’s your lucky day. I *hate* his movies, and I *hate* him more than Hook hates Peter Pan.
I bloody love Hubie Halloween. Once you get the joke it’s awesome
There's a joke? I loved it without knowing that there's a joke!
It's GOLD!!
What was the joke?
The point of jokes is that they are funny.
Can you explore the movie Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell's character? His role in that movie is absolutely phenomenal and a huge departure from what Will Ferrell usually delivers in a performance. It's definitely worth the breakdown!
Best film he did in my opinion.
I loved CLICK... people suck, yo. That movie blended the heart with the Sandler schtick and was a creative concept.
I remember shedding tears watching Click 😅
I really liked click too😊
Yep my favorite Sandler movie
same.. this one is underrated.
it really resonated with me
Its amazing that he plays the same character in Punch Drunk Love but the world around him is normal and his character is a massive outcast. The bathroom destruction scene and the consequences of it is a great example.
You have to hand it to PT Anderson. He loved Sandler’s films and wanted to make one where he uses Sandler’s mannerisms for tension rather than laughs.
I would argue Robbie Hart is a stand-out from all of his other characters. Not so much in performance, but in the writing.
Comics are like musicians. They write a set (of songs or jokes) and they play that same set over and over and people love them for it. So when comics move to film, what do they do? Their set, they just play their set until they find their feet as a actor. Going to these different Adam Sandler movies is like going to two shows from the same band. You know they're going to play the songs you've heard before, but you're ok with that because you like it.
lmao thats actually pretty accurate
That's kind of a dumb comparison, though. The Beatles wrote, recorded, and released Abbey Road. They didn't just re-record Rubber Soul for the fifth time.
lol he did that on SNL too. Ever seen his Halloween costume skits? It’s literally the same thing over and over, I couldn’t stand it
Used to be Happy Gilmore, but then I became a father and rewatched big daddy.
Omg I forgot about reign o’re me. Yea that’s a top 5er for sure? Probably pushing out bulky Madison which stays firmly at 6.
Don't Mess with the Zohan is criminally underrated. I always get a good laugh out of it.
Hot Garbage
As a long time Adam Sandler fan the older I get the more I've come to realized that he always plays an over exaggerated version of himself. Betting IRL he's a really great guy that's had some hard times as a kid & learned to navigate life young using good laughter & close friends. Can't EVER meet him... _just in case_ I'm wrong! 😂😂
By all accounts everybody who’s worked with him loves him. It’s why they keep going back to make more movies with him.
Waterboy is a classic
"Water sucks it really really sucks."

H20!
Could you imagine going to the theaters and seeing it back in the day i bet it was riot of laughter 😂😂😂
Adam Sandler may play the same character but he’s such a legend
Preach, it's probably why his Hollywood career has lasted as long as it has!
@@trinaq 👍👍
Sandler is a legit icon. He's going down as one of the greats in my opinion.
Little Nicky is extremely underrated
Well, I do agree that a lot of Adam Sandler characters especially in the 90s and early 2000s were similar. I think characters like the wedding Singer stand out as not being the same character.
Grown ups is amazing some my fav films of all time
Dont think Click is the worst, its has a pretty good message and the end of his future self made me cry
Man I didn‘t know Zohan was regarded as a bad movie, that shit is fire
I agree. I love it to death.
It's fucking awful.

It was due to water boys success that allowed more focus on a serious project of his
This is crazy since I once wrote an entire essay on this exact subject back in school. 😂😂
Spanglish is my favorite Sandler movie it’s soooooo good his romantic comedies are really amazing and him drew are a match made in cinematic heaven his catalogue is full of quotables and his ability to sing when needed laugh when wanted and bring emotion when deserved is highly underrated
The Sandman will always be my childhood hero. Thanks Adam for being an inspiration for goofballs like us, who never stops on dreaming and achieving.
Yeah I love little Nicky. It takes a certain humor to appreciate I guess.
Sandy wexler is a 10 for me and also speaking of his serious roles let's not forget hustle
The Wedding Singer! Favorite Adam Sandler movie! And Big Daddy as well!
Favorite comedy actor ever
Water Boy, Billy Madison, Click, Uncut Gems, Spanglish, Longest Yard, Eight Crazy Nights, Hustle, 50 First Dates, Mr. Deeds, Chuck & Larry, Happy Gilmore, Bulletproof and Funny People. As much as he likes to do goofy comedy he has more classics than just about anyone and he keeps his friends employed. Adam Sandler will always be a favorite of mine from childhood to adulthood.
The do over was so good
Don’t diss the sand man bro.
If you can't see the differences in characters, then that's on you. I personally can and love what he brought to each role.
uncut gems is truly a gem. great movie, and i'm sure it would have not been that great without him
Great actor and great guy as well. Hes been able to keep a ton of people consistently employed for 25+ years under his Happy Maddison Productions. In such a cutthroat business where many dont know when there next job will be thats a big deal.
Adam Sandler into the sandlerverse
Did he really say You Don't Mess with the Zohan is bad? I just... I'm speechless
Really? Cuz there are movies that I like that are objectively terrible but I like them and at the same time know there bad. Did you really think don't mess with the Zohan was a good movie? cuz it was really bad
@@tommystrickland6268 it was a bad movie but was also hilarious. Love that movie
@Cody's Cards yeah I didn't say it doesn't have some genuinely funny stuff in it but it's not a "good movie" like I love little nicky and anyone who doesn't sucks in my opinion but I don't think it's an amazing movie or anything I just really like it
uncut gems was his last dance fr 🐐
Wait people consider "Don't Mess With the Zohan" to be a bad movie?
Funny part is in my mind, all those adam sandler films are merged in my head.
The Grown Ups movies were, are and always will be the best comedies of all time
you need to watch more comedies
Nah the grown ups are definitely one of the funniest comedies to date
the same could be said about literally any actor. Like, if I ever see Dicaprio or Deniro in a movie where they aren't just playing themselves, I'll be absolutely stunned.
Watch more movies or better because what the fuck
Adam Sandler is a creative genius. Even as a man who is chasing my 40s, I can still watch his movies with my students and laugh so hard. I think playing the same character might be one of the reasons he is so successful.
He's no longer worthy of the comedy genre
That's why he should focus the rest of his career as a serious actor
Uncut Gems, anyone?
@@chasehedges6775I'm pretty sure he was taking about this one
His role is The Meyerowitz Story is something that I will always appreciate in his career
Not enough people have seen that movie. He and Ben Stiller were really convincing as brothers.
Adam Sandler’s characters are so predictable
Yep.
I don’t really enjoy his movies any more, but as a kid they were awesome.
you guys missed the movie blended. that movie was something else, one of my fav sandler movies
the sandlerverse does exist. and i love it.
I had no idea Click and Grown Ups were poorly received... They are some of my favorites from Sandler.
I still could never understand why people dislike click and if the IMDB rating of 6.4 is trustworthy, it really shows that people actually like the movie just enough. So the lesson to be learnt should have been - do not listen to critics, they do not know anything.
Because we wanted a Comedy, dumbass.
I really liked all of Adams Netflix movies!! Father of the Year, The Wrong Missy, Hustle, Do-Over, Hubie Halloween… I don’t see why people are tripping over these movies. Study them!! They’re all good, funny films and yea have always been a fan of his 💃🏽
My brothers and I are all very different. But the one thing we bond over is Adam Sandler films. Nobody does it like him. Big Daddy is our favorite!
Uncut gems was a rollercoaster, one of the most surprising endings I've ever seen. Great job in that roll.
He’s definitely an actor synonymous with the “lovable loser” trope.
Adam Sandler had a comfort zone he didn't want to break out of, and when he did, he was surprised at his own talent.
Somehow, Click was the first movie to ever make me cry. I was probably just in middle school when I saw it, but it holds a place in my heart for that reason alone....Also, Zohan is a guilty pleasure
When I saw "The Grown-ups" it was so bad I just left the theater. Unfortunately I haven't seen any of his dramatic films and I know I'm missing out.
I am SHOCKED seeing the scores of his movies! I love so many of them!
Love this take on the Sandlerverse
Reign over me would have deserved a mention as an exception, excellent performance.
A special shoutout to "Reign Over Me". One of my favorite movies of all-time. And if features Sandler in a serious role.
Everyone should watch hustle with Adam, it's great!
This whole video was me saying, “Wait people didn’t like that movie?!”
