    Hi and thanks for these video!
    Top quality pictures, very good words, very nice meeting : the Orca is a really good product.
    It seems that the production has stopped... what a pity!!
    Maybe, someday, it will start again.
    Forza.

    The Orca 3.0 since it has the e-assist. Plus the way of getting in and out of the Orca is also perfect, since I have been through various surgeries within the left leg.

    There are times I would like to be the Jay Leno of the 'Bent world! I have seen the 'Dillo on a number of DHL U-tube videos and thought how much fun it must be to ride! (Maybe less so in the rain, delivering items every day, though LOL). Great to see one up close, Thank you.
    The Orca. WOW. I have seen quite a bit about them, but not with the clarity and detail that you have brought to this video. Really impressive, like the little sports car that you use at the weekend!, Not sure if I would want to use it like a day-to-day workhorse, but it is exactly as Andre said, you do need to look at exactly what you want to use the machine for; Being seduced by the sweet lines is all too easy.
    What I think is great with the Velomobile (and 'bent) community is how everybody has worked with each other, knows each other, and respects each other. None of that "My machine is better than their machine!" or slagging off the 'opposition,' but all wanting to promote a car alternative life, collaborating on ideas and suppliers and working together. Long may it continue, prosper, and propagate!

    I really envy you trying out these machines. I love the Orca it is such a well built machine. The transmission is a superb design imho. I see the Orca as being a very practical velomobile with such easy access and egress.
    I've never seen the Armadillo before. Looking at it I wonder if Velove have considered putting a camper style unit on the back? I imagine a streamlined pod big enough to sleep two people. For really long distance touring I think that might be really nice.

      Yep, I asked Johan about a camper style shell for the Armadillo 2.5 years ago; he said he’d like to but needed to focus on the chassis and cargo barebones version first; he then created the first soft shell; they intend to improve then sell a shell v2 as it were but no date on that at the moment. What I’ve learnt from alternating between riding a windcheetah, a QV and a Brox is that height and width really matters in terms of gaining speed. The windcheetah even with a long trailer attached is a lot faster downhill than a Brox. A camper that pops up and out would be great; keep the frontal area as low as possible when on the move, then expand when parked.

    These are stunning machines but being the slight pessimist that I am I just don't see it happening in the UK for a long time . Like the Aussies the majority love cars and anything different puts them off . It's a shame because these can reduce congestion and keep you fit at the same time but with the added benefit of more luggage space and more protection . Needs more advertising on television as well as social media . I was also surprised they weigh just over 20kg which is far lighter than I suspected.

    John, when people are getting sick and tired of pollution in the intercity companies like Velove will become the norm. Inner London will become liveable again. It is just a matter of time, sooner rather than later when the price of petrol keeps rising.

    • @stevezodiac491
      @stevezodiac491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul C I've got an electric car for that but not in London.

    • @Paul_C
      @Paul_C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And your point is what exactly? To show you have an electric car? Using bikes puts less strain on the roads we currently have. Bikes have a smaller footprint; simply put, it bicycles per person take up less space.

    • @stevezodiac491
      @stevezodiac491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul C my point is that there is more than one way to reduce pollution. I ride a bike also and rode it 300 miles per week for 25 years to work and back and training in my greatest use period. Work was a 34 mile daily round trip. A velomobile though like a push bike has one great down fall. It's visibility in traffic. During my commuting on my bike, I suffered two broken collar bones, one broken elbow and a broken neck of femur( hip). So you see there is the compromise, safety. You are many multiples more likely to be hurt in a velomobile or push bike per mile although velomobiles look great fun: but if taking space up or resources up is your priority, why not use a normal push bike costing a tenth of your velomobile , donate the difference to the needy, set off the difference in time taken early say 2 minutes or just get fitter to make up the speed difference and buy a normal push bike. I also suggest that a normal push bike would be much faster than a velomobile in heavy traffic with It's ability to squeeze through smaller gaps. So let's come down to reality, not saving the world bullshit. A velomobile is a rich man's toy, is good to play with and gives hours of endless fun - be truthful, not knocking this aspiration in any way, because I would like to play with one also.

    • @Paul_C
      @Paul_C 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevezodiac491 So, I see you haven't got a clue why the armadillo was developed at all. It is built for Velove, a company delivering parcels initially. DHL was the launching customer of Velove and Flevobike developed the machine. Therfore it is a one person machine. You might be saving the planet with your car, though for now oil still is used to generate electricity. Thus you still pollute, as does the electric Armadillo. Most velomobiles are hpv's, a far cry from an electric car.
      I did not intend to react to your rant, to me a velomobile a fun way to enjoy my commute. I'm one of the lucky one who lives in a country with a well built network of bicycle paths. What I don't understand is why you find it necessary to comment in a derogatory fashion. I'm not out to criticise your use of an electric vehicle in any way, shape or form.
      Sorry for the late reaction, I just came across your rant.

  • @popeyegordon
    @popeyegordon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry you have so little to work with but you make the most of your stupid 250 watt limit. Americans complain about our 750 watt/ 20 mph limit not being enough, car addicts still insist on 35+ mph speeds for ebikes so they continue to abuse heavy polluting cars. My ELF is the heavy hauler of velomobiles, it has a 550 pound payload capacity. I can haul 30 bags of groceries or a passenger. I find it a good replacement for the car I dumped 5 years ago. I love the 100 watt solar roof which gives 100% of the power I need for keeping a charge.

    250 watts is the max allowed under European law, I think under only UK law it is 200 watts solo and 250 watts tandem but European law trumps ours now ( for the moment, until March 2019 probably) anything more powerful and a reg plate, tax, insurance and MOT would be required.

    • @Paul_C
      @Paul_C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neal Archer No, all electric bikes have a max 250 watt all across Europe. That is, the motor is limited. where I come from electric bikes are speed limited, the cut off point is 25km/hr. When using it as a bicycle with assist, I can accelerate to 25km, but there is no limit (other than the max limit of that particular road). Speed Pedelecs, for now, are limited to 45km/hr. They are seen as mopeds under Dutch law.
      To put that in perspective were I ride my recumbent I would be limited to the legal road limits. Within the city limits a maximum of 50km/hr. Outside, either 60 to 80. The trouble starts with the legality of it all. It is easier to legally put a number on speed as opposed to a number on power. That is the sole reason for the 250watt number.
      I realise there is a vast difference between what is used in the Netherlands as opposed to the rest on the EU. Both in bicycle use and the way bikes are used. For now EU rules are used based on the experiences of my country. However there is no reason, even under EU rules, countries can and do differ. Oh, mopeds are taxed, do need insurance, need a helmet... Even in the Netherlands those Lycra devils use head protection, it makes sense, doesn't it? I use an electric bike, a vintage bike, a recumbent, and a road bike. For now not a velo, if and when my commute distance changes I'll think about a Quattro Velo. Do I need a car? Not really, if I need one I'll rent one.
      Concerning the UK, what I don't understand is the hostility toward cyclists. I would think the more bicycles there are the less congestion there is for motorist? Guess that is my Dutch way of thinking. I'm one of those idiots who takes the train to Amsterdam, rents a bike for 3.50, visits family. And all that for less than the price of ticket to park a car... Isn't that stupid?

    • @stevezodiac491
      @stevezodiac491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul C can't understand our hatred of cyclists either, it is basic jealousy half the time when they are stood in traffic and the bike isn't but then again, if you are too lazy to cycle, then it is the car driver's fault he is locked in traffic, he too has the option.

    • @Paul_C
      @Paul_C 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neal, one of the reasons of the post about pollution has to do with my understanding of the laws regarding bicycle use in the UK. As far as I know there is no tax called 'road tax', there was a tax disk which but that got replaced with number plates. In those times before the number plates bicycles had a disk and were able to use the roads. Pedestrians were exempt because walking was 'normal'? For me motorists behaviour in the UK is, eh, uncivilized. Sure, it isn't always smelling like roses on Dutch roads. We have accidents between all modalities. By far the biggest difference between our countries is the attitude. Every car driver in the Netherlands used to be a bicyclist. They know the rules of the road, the hidden signals, the nod, staring at the motorist before crossing and even swearing when someone makes a mistake. But never ever will a driver try to hurt bicyclist willingly.
      That, of all things, has to be paramount. You do no set out to hurt someone, period. Seems UK motorists have a different mindset. Maybe, just maybe, there is one rule regarding traffic the UK needs to implement. Has to do with priorities. Those less vulnerable are at fault, always. Make the whole thing workable: pedestrians, bicycles, motor vehicles. The heavier the vehicle... oh, isn't that the way the vehicle tax works?

    • @stevezodiac491
      @stevezodiac491 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul C there is no payment for the right to be on the road. In Britain we have what is called vehicle excise duty, which is just another tax really and the money raised does not fix or build roads directly, it just goes into general taxation, that everything national is payed from. Local roads are paid from council tax, which local town councils raise from taxes on living in houses and from local businesses as well. Road tax was abolished about 1919, so there is no greater right to use the roads if paid for by a motor vehicle than a cycle. I wish that Netherlands law was used here where cyclists are assumed to be innocent and motor vehicles are assumed guilty unless proved otherwise - much more civilised and putting the onus on the more dangerous vehicle, making them much more risk aware.

    • @ynotnilknarf39
      @ynotnilknarf39 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Helmets don't make a difference to safety, it makes it more dangerous for the faster riders beause helmets absorb very little of the forces in higher speed/higher load impacts (they split/crack and don't compress as they should for a start at higher than wlaking speeds). The speed of 25km/h for electric bikes is proving to be a problem in NL as this exceeds the natural speed of the majority of users (those over 60), this in itself has had a disastrous effect on cycling deaths where the age groups using/buying e-bikes have had a complete turnaround in deaths, increasing by 50% and bucking the downward trend to the groups who don't buy e-bikes anywhere near as much. This is known but ignored by the European Cycling Federation.
