- Secret Sewing CHALLENGE! In this week's video, I paired up with Jennifer from A Vintage Vanity to do a secret sewing challenge.
We sent each other a mystery box of vintage fabric, a pattern and vintage notions, and we were only allowed to use what was INSIDE each box. I was sent a 1950's vintage sewing pattern (McCall's 5471, bust 40"), some modern Joann's tree print cotton, a polyester zip and vintage notions. Come with me as I show you how I make a vintage dress from this exciting vintage mystery box. I will show you how I made this dress and tips to avoid making the same mistakes I did.
Vintage pattern used: McCall's 5471
Fabric: Joann's
Notions: poly zip, vintage button and vintage belt buckle.

Lol, I got genuinely excited for that subscription box for a hot second.
You know, I am thinking about doing a few limited releases, since I have SO much in stock.
Haha, me too!
@@StephanieCanada a mystery sewing sub box is...on point for how I want to spend my money. Just saying.
@@StephanieCanada yes!!!! That would be amazing
I would LOVE that!! Take my money Stephanie!!
Finally found the origin of the awesome green tree dress! Love this pattern and the fabric choice so much
I love how you always seem to make a dress out of all the mayhem.
Aww thank you so much! And my partner can attest that every sewing project is the same way.
BAHAHA this is the most accurate description of Stephanie's (extremely enjoyable) sewing videos ever and I love it.
You always say not to notice the mess but I love it. My house looked the same for years and I was shamed for it. I had little kids and a full time job. Actually, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference how old the kids are😂. I don't come here to see your house. I'm here, because I enjoy your content and your no fear of house mess and lack of makeup. It's super refreshing.
I cannot tell you how much I love how this dress looks on you!!! You did an amazing job!!!
I had to leave some suspense for you! 😉
You picked an amazing fabric!
@@lauracarrier6158 Thanks! I'm so glad I took a chance. I kept going back to the fabric and finally said trust your gut! I may also have said who doesn't want to look like a gorgeous walking painting! ❤️
You're adorable I'm going to subscribe because of this collab ❤
@@AllTheCloudsArePink aw...thank you so much! It was such a fun collab and Stephanie is so fabulous to work with!!
I love that I’m seeing this particular show. That green is my favorite dress I’ve seen I wear. So
Cool
That pattern is to die for - like a painting by Monet! 😍
Right! I loved the pairing! Jennifer did a great job!
There was a legit SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! coming out of the house that the neighbors heard when she opened it!
Mrs. Green in the library with rhe candle stick 😂😂😂😘.
It’s such a perfect dress for the Flower and Garden Festival! It was so great to run into you there. :)
It was such an absolute pleasure meeting you too! Sorry I was a complete doof about it. It is still hard to understand that folks could recognize me.
Hello! Here from A Vintage Vanity.
I will sit through anything for ..... sigh Karl Urban sigh ..... all is forgiven. 😁
Ms. Green 👍
Us Vintage Vanity folks have good taste...sigh...Karl Urban but also...sigh...Tom Hiddleston
Thank you!
I want to thank you again to A Vintage Vanity for doing this super collab with me. Check out her video here: th-cam.com/video/8LjKILt0z34/w-d-xo.html
I LOVE your "stupid" intros! Keep up the great sarcasm😆
Yes! A Vintage collab for the ages!
Thank you so much! It was a blast!
Ms Green what a joy this was
Miss Green was SO LOVELY!!! No one would ever guess! Love this pattern!
Thank you so much Michelle!
Vintage sewing and Loki? You have made my ANZAC Day holiday!
That will be that next "make and watch" for SURE!
That fabric is gorgeous, looks like a garden
I love the no makeup look. You are beautiful without it!
Miss Green would love that dress!
dangit! 🤣stop trolling me i got so excited!
You are a Hulk Hogan Rebel with that cotton fabric! Lol!
Fabric is called Magical Forest Premium Cotton on Joanns if anyones wondering
Oh thank you! I meant to hike my skirt up and check out the name (seriously because I left all the selvedges).
That dress turned out absolutely beautiful. I love love love the pattern and the fabric, and it looked awesome on you.
Hey Ms. Green, love your chaos, found you after your colab with The Stitchery ☺
Love the fabric she sent you, just beautiful.
Wow! What a perfect dress to wear to the garden show!
Thank you so much Cheryl!
I love the dress... and perfect stop at the garden.
You are such a hoot!!!!
Ms. Green! Had a couple giggles 😃
Miss Green
That dress looks great on you!
Absolutely love Ms Green! And that dress is fabulous!
Thank you so much! And it really has become an immediate favorite.
Love this dress and the skirt is twirlific....
If anyone fell in love with the cut of the black dress towards the beginning of the video like I did, it's a Trashy Diva brand dress in the Cage cut! That style dress is no longer available on their website but I'm seeing a decent amount available secondhand online. I immediately purchased one so I can take it apart, convert it into a pattern, and make my own in a fabric I love!
Ms. Green that is a beautiful dress!! I love your energy and enjoy your videos so much.
Ms. Green. And you look darling in the dress!
Thank you so much Elizabeth!
From the title I thought it was gonna be like, sewing from a pile of loose pattern pieces with no instructions or pattern envelope, and I was excited for the pure chaos of that concept. This was really fun too, though!
I would love to have copies of the old patterns, like take the pattern and draw it on the pattern fabric and bam you got a another pattern
Hi Stefanie, when you wash the fabric do some vinegar in the water and the colours will stay., you maybe already know this trick, but there it is anyway.
Thank you! I did indeed know that, but still forget to do it most times.
You are inspiring me. I just dug up my own paper patterns. 12 total including 2 vintage patterns.❤😊
Miss Green in one of my favorite places!
Ms Green, your creation is so perfect! Thanks for Sharing with us. Greetings from East Orlando!
Yes, heat resistant tape like they do when holding down vinyl on a T-shirt, etc. Then you can iron right over it when you iron your copy of the pattern and put it away.
I saw you wearing this dress in another video and I thought it looked really cute! So this dress was born from a challenge, great choice and execution !!
THAT INFOMERCIAL AT THE BEGINNING THO OMG
I would 100% buy a secret sewing box, not gonna lie. Maybe not for $999 a year tho bahahha
Thanks! I am thinking about doing a limited option for that service.
I laughed all the way thru this video!!! Love your quick wit!!
Mystery solved for me (the source of that awesome green fabric). She mentions you sew with vintage sheets? Interestingly, my first thought when I saw you in this print in another video was "I don't remember Burlington making that pattern".
That's beautiful Ms. Green.
What a fun swap
I'm going to be on the hunt for this pattern now for sure! Nice peek of Ms Green and love the Star Trek shirt.
Ms. Green, fabulous!
Dang. I was so sad to see that the beginning ad was fake. I would so buy one!
I am in love with this material and the pattern. Wow girl you did that pattern justice. I love your channel you make me laugh all the way thru. Thank you.
Thank you so so much!🥰
Ms. Green! Love your dress! Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
I love your Starship Enterprise shirt! Live long
Thank you so much Christena!
What a lovely dress Mrs. Green. ❤️
Thank you so much Crystal!
Miss Green!!!
Ms. Green. LOL!
That fabric screams Bernie Dexter dress at me, lol.
Great dress Miss Green. I love watching your vintage channel.. you inspired me to make a Christmas walk away dress. That was fun.
I loved the dress, but I want to see you do the belt.
Okay, but vintage subscription sewing boxes would be amazing... though the exchange rate to The True North, would make $84/month so brutal
Also Ms Green was so complimentary!
I actually have been thinking about it. I have SO much inventory... so maybe. (and no it wouldn't be that much).
Why yes yes Ms Green.
Thank you Marsha!
Watched, and now I need to see the collaboration video :) Ms. Green
I'm a lifetime member of that club... It's a hilarious infomercial, lol. I love it.
Thank you so much Nina!
@@StephanieCanada I would totally be up for a project like this! Sew many patterns, sew much fabric, sew little time...
I Love your Star Trek shirt! I actually made a Corset of the same material back in 2019 and wore it to a Star Trek Orchestra Show
Ms. Green 😂😂😂 great video Stephanie, that dress is lovely on you.
Thank you so much Eleanor! I do really enjoy it.
I really want that Carousel fabric though. Haha
Ms. Green! fantastic!
Miss Greene. Loved your Clue series!
Thank you so much Sheri! That means the world to me.
Miss Green love it
I'm not sure how I'd feel about the world if my sewing machine butterfly-d me every time I turned it on. Like the Mrs. Green callback.
Well. That was fun.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
Honestly, it still scares me everytime I turn it on.
@@StephanieCanada I think we may have reached the point where the machines are smarter than we are. Watched Sewstines' intro to embroidery. both impressive and slightly terrifying...
Ms. Green..... what a fun video!
Thank you so much!
You looked so gleeful tearing the fabric, lol! Loved this whole project.
Oh it was glorious!!!
Lovely work and to see Ms Green was chef's 💋
Thank you Lauren! And I tried to be sneaky about it.

I am not sure how I am just finding you, but I am so glad I did (Ms. Green). You are 100% my people. I was hooked when you said NO to makeup. Now to go through and see what I have been missing.
Aww thank you so much Bobbi! That is very kind of you. Yeah, sewing is already challenging... no need for extra blockades to getting going.
😊 love that Ms Green 😂
Thank you so much!
Ms. Green, please meet Ms. Ruse. Loved the dress, and impressed you managed pockets. 🌿🌴🍃💚
