To be fair, Steph got this entire project sewn, done, edited, and posted in the space of about six days. So ALL the emotions were had! But she rocks. And she did great!! 🎉🎉
"Fell into a giant pile of starch and didn't know what to do with myself," is a really accurate description of my university education at an ag-centric school.
I absolutely love this dress on you!!! When you talked about how happy it makes you, I shed some happy tears. The genuine happiness you felt made you glow!!! Thank you for sharing your projects and little glimpses of your life with us. We love you!
love this whole project cuz it's REAL! This is how my sewing goes. oh, the pinking shears asmr part brought back memories of my little 89 year old mom, who, for reasons unknown, wanted to pink the edges of a lap quilt she was making. They were the same pinking shears she used in the 1960s to trim my bangs for my K - 3rd grade school pictures. Wheeee
One of the things I like best about Steph's videos are her 80's cultural references that this Gen Xer easily gets. Although I also love the Millennial & Gen Z sewists I watch on YT, sometimes their cultural references make me feel like I should be in my oversized car, driving 15 miles under the speed limit (in the left lane, with my blinker on), on my way to the Old Country Buffet for their Early Bird Specials. And the dress & headpiece are Skittles-flavored perfection! LOVE IT!!!
I watch u for many reasons... Not least of which is the fact that I heard u say "YES my name is Canada and NO I'm not from there" ONCE, and my Canadian soul laughed.... Chuckles from the actual country!!!
I wish the "like" button allowed me to select "LOVE" because I love the concept, how you persevered, and the energy (you SHINE in a good way) while wearing it!
It's like you got all the feels to make this "Inside Out" dress. ALL the feels. So relatable, I must say. Do I love sewing? No, I love saying "why yes, I made this".
I love, love, love what you're doing. I hope others see this and want to create their own clothing. I have been sewing for a very long time. Even made my bridal dress, hat and veil at the age 18. So I am very old. So many people don't understand what you get out of sewing. You are so creative, resourceful and honest. It makes my heart sing. You go girl! Keep it up.
WHAT? YOU WERE NOT INVITED TO THIS OR OTHER PREMIERES? WHO DO I FIGHT FOR THIS?! LEMME AT ‘EM!!!!! Just delighted I have this as a procrastitraction from folding laundry
I can't tell you how many times I've watched your videos and wanted to reach through the screen and help you draft and fit a piece, which is SO hard to do on yourself. We'd have those darts and sleeves fixed for good and you'd be reaching for that pattern again and again. I allow myself three small or one major mistake per sewing session. I've learned they only multiply and frustrate, so i call it. (I also have a modified favorite dress pattern I drafted, and have several of them in different prints.)
1. That necklace goes with everything! 2. Love that you took the time to point out that after wear, you can go back and find details that affect the fit over time and make adjustments And 3. I NEED an UMBRELLA SKIRT!
Stunning. Now, put the pattern pieces together, mark areas to do tweaks to, and put the pattern in an envelope. Write in big letters using lots of colour, what is in the envelope, and put it somewhere safe. On the wall in plain sight and make it again soon. Look how tiny your waist is and the size of your smile wearing this dress. Forget the problems you had and see the finished dress and the joy of wearing it. Go for it
It's such a bright, colorful dress that it's hard to be sad, because it's super adorable! If you *really* wanted to "fix" the slightly mismatched dots up front, you could always do a wide faux button placket (with colorful ruffles?) up the front in any of the colors you have in the dress, including white, and sew some covered buttons in the same fabric the skirt's made out of to use up scraps!
If at first you don’t succeed, adjust and insert, it’s just what we do, we make it right. None of the projects are perfect, but if you make it yourself you can still be proud that YOU made it and nobody else has one, yay👍🤜🏻🤛🏻. Love watching your videos, thank you 🇬🇧. P.S. glad you watch Morgan Doner and The Stitchery, I love their videos too, you’re all so informative ❤
Stephanie, I so enjoy your videos. I thought I was the only one who ran out of bobbin thread, and sewed gathering and had to pick it out because the fabric flipped up and, we'll you know, don't you? I smile because it seems to me every booboo you've made so have I. You are such a kick to watch. I just discovered you maybe 2 weeks ago and binge watch you. Thank you for your sense of humor and beautiful projects!❤
AAAAAHHHHHMMMAAAAZZZIIINNNGGG!!!!! I just love this so fricking much!!! And your face when you were wearing it was worth all the struggle!!! So proud of you!!!!! ❤️🤎💛💚💙💜
Favorite words from Stephenie " let's go to the storage" yeah! 😂 Just tack up the sleeves it's good. Make changes to pattern immediately as you won't have to remember for next time. Glad your happy.
Yes! Make changes to pattern immediately, and then sew another dress or two right away! Once you’ve suffered the immense and hilarious and very relatable frustrations of tweaking the pattern for THIS dress (for which you get ALL the gold stars) quick repetition is the path to both additional awesome dresses and also a fully perfected pattern!
@@Alluvial. your advice goes beyond mine! I haven't tried this in clothing but any small project or quilt block I say why make one when you can make 4 😂
@@jayneterry8701 Lol I try to *always* do this with clothing! Conservation of effort! I just make sure I’m using the “same” fabric type with each iteration, so I’m continuing to perfect the “same” pattern :)
Thank you for not just very entertaining and informative videos, but also sharing your mistakes and frustrations. Makes me feel a lot better about my own chaos goblin sewing endeavors.
I ugly cry at the first inside out movie. The scene where the imaginary friend jumps off the wagon to save Joy…that’s it. That’s all it takes 😭😭 . The new dress and the beautiful skirt is a masterpiece!! ❤
I loved watching you make this dress! Your joy is infectious! Keep on doing what you do! My husband and I love watching you because you inspire older folks like us to enjoy the sewing we do!
Amazingly done! Thank you for including your true emotions on this dress... a few dresses ago I was cursing and almost crying, wondering if others felt this way or maybe I should not be a sewest.... I love that even though you cried, it turned out so beautiful. (The dress I made turned out.... ok... boning is harder then it looks...)
Aww, Stephanie -- you're ok no matter how things turn out. I love that you always give anything your best shot, and let us be part of the process. . Have you any idea how comforting and encouraging this is to ? You're among my sewing essentials. Huge hugs through the internet. ❤❤❤❤
The dress looks great on you. It's the kind of dress you have to see in motion to appreciate it. Pattern matching seams always stresses me out. If the seam match bothers you how about an applique to cover it? Either lace or extend the center yellow panel of the skirt up into the boddice. Thanks.
I love this dress. Even if it made you cry, it was 💯 worth the trial and error because it’s a dress that you are happy in, that you love, and that you will wear continuously. It fits beautifully and the colors!!! As for the washing, throw a couple color catchers in the washing machine. They work. I’ve used them many times and they’ve saved my butt when gifting quilts to family and doing a pre-wash to get that crinkly look.
Color catchers are incredible magical technology. I use so many of them when I'm finishing yarn I've spun and knitted items I've completed that I always have them around (I'm also too lazy to sort wash sometimes).
I just started watching sewing videos again and I absolutely love how you embrace the mistakes. ❤ I have it in mind to do an umbrella dress. Wish me luck and controllable chaos.
My son and I went to see the movie on Thursday night. It was pretty cool getting to see it the day before it was released. I have to admit, it was too intense for me. I had to step out at about the half way point and came back in for the happy ending.
Oh Stephanie! I’ve made each and every mistake you experienced making this dress, many times. Even experienced sewers have these problems! Give yourself a ton of Grace! Never expect perfection or you’ll always be disappointed! The dress looks great!! Great movement in the skirt! Plenty of twirl in that skirt!! The colors look fabulous. Be proud!
Absolutely enjoyed watching you see this dress and use scissors as a microphone 🎙️. It looks wonderful on you and I’m glad you had the perfect event to wear it out for it’s revealing. Spectacular job well done!

Like you say, "How can you not be HAPPY in this dress?" Wonderful job Stephanie and once again, great entertainment and thanks for the laughs. Happy Day to ya!!
For cutting, I use THE EXACT SAME PUZZLE MAT TILES for my knees!!!! lololololol that's amazing! Great minds think alike! Happy sewing in chaos! I'm here for it! Also, that dotted fabric is super fun!

Stephanie, I'd watch you make just a skirt. Or Just a biscuit. Or read the dictionary. You always deliver the sunshine. Thanks for that.
Actually, I think a part of the dictionary could be funny!😅
So would I. I don't even have an interest in Disney!
Birdy
I’m for the biscuit idea tbh
@@ThroughTheThornvine Steph makes the biscuits because the last time I made them, they were hockey pucks... :)
I watch you for many reasons, but one reason it allows me to unwind from my own sewing mistakes
Ahahahah right?! I sewed the collar on my dress wrong TWICE *the same wrong way* and gave up for the day lol.
My mantra: "I am not mistake-prone. I am a master troubleshooter."
"Fell into a giant pile of starch and didn't know what to do with myself," is a really accurate description of my university education at an ag-centric school.
I absolutely love this dress on you!!! When you talked about how happy it makes you, I shed some happy tears. The genuine happiness you felt made you glow!!!

This was soooo cool and the way the polka dots resemble the memory spheres from the movie was a nice touch!

I would find some big Disney buttons and fake sew them down the front seam. You are so right, this is the perfect dress!!!
I was thinking some giant fake buttons in rainbow colors down the front would be amazing
I was thinking a pink wide trim down the front. . . .
@@vickidiodato9834 I was thinking the same thing!
I wore a polyester vintage skirt to the zoo this summer and I cannot recommend that less.

This is so mood. When you find the perfect color or the perfect fabric but it's not the type of fabric or color you need.
"I just want to do it because it looks cool"
If that doesn't pretty much sum up my entire crafting life hahaha
I totally would have chickened out and used a solid color for the top. I love your willingness to play with bright patterns!
1. That necklace goes with everything! 2. Love that you took the time to point out that after wear, you can go back and find details that affect the fit over time and make adjustments And 3. I NEED an UMBRELLA SKIRT!
