8:09 ironically dataminers found unused sprites for all seven of the koopalings in this game, some are functional too, they were originally going to be the boss battles and yes they were as generic battles as you imagine.

I've played it recently for the first time. It's a fun game. Nothing amazing, but much better than most people made it seem over the years.
Mario, Luigi and the Toads were captured because the scepter was used on them and they couldn't control their emotions. In fact, without holding the scepter, Peach is the only character able to not only control her emotions, but use them to her advantage. Which would make her more powerful and not weak as many people who complain about the game make it seem.

Nobody is complaining that she seems "weak." You need to expand your understanding of misogyny a little farther than that grade-school "Women strong too" idea.
They still made the choice to base the entire gimmick and story of the game around cheesy, overexaggerated emotions. The cartoonish image of an overly-emotional woman is basically synonymous with this game, and they invented plot elements to justify it.

I think it definitely holds up to today. Though I never understood why we never got it re-released back when the eshop was on the Wii U because they also had DS games to purchase on there as well. Also, I would have really liked a sequel to give Perry the parasol some closure to his story. After you beat the game the 2nd time, there’s nothing to tell about what happened to him. But nonetheless, it was a great game to play back then and I even played it all the way through on my own channel before retiring it in my collection.

It's funny that you say that about the bosses because the Koopalings/Koopa Kids were in-fact planned to be bosses in this game originally. They have fully working spites and everything but they were just scrapped during some point in development for some unknown reason.
Tho honestly speaking, with how the emotion mechanic is so baked in to everything here, I think it would have been cool to see how the Koopaling/Koopa Kid boss fights would have been in this game. Especially when looking at some of their sprite animations. Definitely wasn't going to be how they are dealt with in the NSMB games if going off of those sprites, that's for sure.
Having both the Koopalings/Koopa Kids and the bosses we ended up getting probably would have done this game a bit better in terms of variety and game life? And I say this as someone who has Super Princess Peach as one of their most favorite Nintendo/Mario games tbh XD
And I do believe I'm in the minority that prefers Super Princess Peach to Princess Peach showtime. Showtime is lovely and I liked it a good bit, but I felt that game was more style over substance while Super Princess Peach's mechanics & controls were better implemented. Generally. Yeah I'll fully admit the touch screen stuff before the bosses weren't great ideas, especially on emulators Xp ... Tho I still didn't mind them too much tbh
Plus I just adore the entire game's aesthetic/sprite work & music so much. And while I didn't mind the Toad thing and the post game unlockable stuff to 100% either (was just more to do in a game I already enjoy so much), I definitely understand how that's off-putting and would agree they shouldn't ever do that again heh Xp

Honestly I kinda forgot how fun they really are, and 3 (which I hadn't played until now) might actually be better than any of the Battle Network games which feels blasphemous to say but hot damn did I have fun. The DS was really stacked with secret gems and games that aged a lot better than most people probably expected.

Same Kirby complaints: it's too easy, very same-y, feels a little more kiddy than I need.
But also it's totally pleasant and it felt different to me from all the games at the time and it was in that period when the DS games didn't fully know what they were doing so there's gimmicky touch screen stuff.

The only other game TOSE put their name on outside of the Starfy series, with all their favourites
-completing is a significant deal, fill your bestiary! Collect all the music! Beat every minigame on all difficulties! etc.
-a second lap playthrough with brand new levels and minor alterations to old ones
-a combo system for defeating enemies quickly that grants you currency
-bright vivid colour palette, truly their 2D work is absolutely splendid and vibrant
-It has Starfy in it (He's a semi-secret enemy you have to bonk three times in 3 different worlds for the bestiary)
The kind of 7/10 game that BEGS for a sequel with some real bite, some real expansion of ideas. Musics pleasant with some real bangers too, shame we'll not likely ever get a full sequel because it's close to a very excellent game.

It's just the big history with the stereotype really, luckily most girls do not know It yet at that age so none would get bothered by It while playing, you tend to learn that the hard way much later in life, around teenagehood. Really It's just the result of having sociopaths lead society for centuries, essentially men weren't allowed to express anything outside of anger (joy and sadness are not tolerable for some reasons), and women got seen as "emotional" for not having to be held by that standard in some societies, which is weird for two things, one, science says their brains are wired to handle emotions better so that's wrong, two, humans being social creatures need to express their emotions in order to not become mentally ill, preventing men from being emotional will hurt them even if they take pride in "not being emotional* (Anger is ok)". Which, y'know, kinda caused this whole situation to become sensitive. So when some saw the game's concept, It appeared pretty awkward on paper. In practice though? I'd say they aced It with how It went. She's the only one to master emotions without the scepter, she uses them to save her people, pretty noble. It looks like for their new game they learn their lesson and gave peach the power of acting out different lives/jobs so that's an issue they solved for the PR team! (Kinda misses Perry, wished he had a good ending before being forgotten, but oh well, they barely mention this game ever.)

For me this game didn't even hold up at the time. It was alright, but really not worthy of being the game where Peach finally gets the spotlight. I think the new Showtime game does a much better job crafting a new franchise for Peach.

I'm a guy, so my opinion on this isn't going to matter much, but I like the idea of the vibes. Sure, its a bit sexist, but its also seems like an interesting concept as a power set. Maybe on a different character or at a different time it would have gone over better. Honestly, if Peach isn't going to have it, I wouldn't mind Daisy getting it in some form or fashion.

@CometX-ing Why sexist? Men and women are different in many things, and this is actually wonderful

I think It's awkward conceptually "emotions lol/she's manipulative" being the worst outcomes if you thin about It, but the way they did It is fine imo, after all, she's the only one to properly use any of them and she does so to save her people, even bowser actively needs the scepter to switch up his stuff and all the minions and toads become one sided in the chaos, and if you ever need to switch that up for a remake, you can make her into an elemental magic scepter too so you can reuse everything anyways. Game's real cute.

@@malo932 The issue is that It's a stereo type that's not actually true scientifically, women have better emotional management and It's due to how their brains are wired. It's just society only accepts men's emotions when It's anger for some reasons, they can't express themselves or even be happy or sad, leading to women in contrast to being seen as "emotional" for being normal, which is odd that It's a concern in the first place since humans are social animals, we need emotions to communicate our feelings and not go mentally unwell... I'm sure you'll get why the game itched some the wrong way. But trust me, most girls who played this were super happy to get to play with Peach as a hero! It was a nice game to gift.

you can't talk about super princess peach without discussing how blatantly sexist it is, it can be a fine platformer but that fact has to be acknowledged when talking about it. it's not "weird" it's sexist.

The female character is the only one strong enough mentally to control her emotions and use it to her advantage. "Super" Mario himself got captured because he couldn't do it. So, yeah, it could be called sexist, just not in the way most people think 😂

@@B0ssguythen why can't I see them? I have played this game so much as a kid and I still revisit it from time to time yet I can't see a single thing that can be sexist. Peach using the Vibes reflecting woman being easly emotional? No, because she is the only one who can control her emotions freely, unlike anyone that is uncontrollably using the Vibe Scepter's powers, heck, it may even be the opposite since she can only use them for a limited time unless she recharges. And speaking of the Vibe Scepter, don't get me started on the ending of the game, like how dirty minded do you have to be to even think that it's a vibrator joke because of the mom laughing in joy? Not only that is a silly kids story in a Mario game, we saw in the intro and throughout the entire game that the scepter can also inflict joy! How did anyone see this ending as a sex joke?!?! Did Alpharad just brainwashed you all in his video?
