- The TTD in War Thunder is a South African Tank that's basically a Centurion dressed up like a Leopard 2A4. It's lightning fast for its Battle Rating and has DM63 giving it a top tier round at 10.0!
Although the DM63 is being squeezed through a 105mm barrel giving it less velocity than a 120mm cannon, it still has great penetration and excellent spalling. This means it can punch through even the heaviest of armor and do significant damage.
I've been begged to play this vehicle for almost 3 years and finally I've got around to it. Yes, the grind gets to us all! :)

In case you haven’t noticed yet, TTD’s hull do not generate fragments at all. Thus, hitting its hull with apfsds basically does no damage to anything beside of the crew or components directly behind the point of penetration. Meaning, TTD’s hull turns all his opponents‘ apfsds into apcr

DM63 105 and DM63 120 are not the same round, DM is just the German naming scheme for ammunition.
The former is actually a license produced Israeli round while 120mm DM63 is a German development.

It took me 200 battles just to spade this tank, i understand. the modifications when i spaded it went for over 30k rp for one mod.

If the game itself doesn't differentiate between them when you're selecting the shell type (it just says DM63), does it matter all that much that he made a minor mistake? His channel is for playing a tank video game after all, not tank education. I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all, but I feel like Odd gets fed up enough with War Thunder as it is.@@mr.waffentrager4400

TTD is not built off of a British tank. It's South Africa's first indigenously produced MBT prototype. However, the Olifant is built off of the Centurion line of tanks, albeit much more advanced.
This tanks turret is so rectangular, it looks like it's a giant fly swatter attached to tanks chassis
When i started playing war thunder i checked out all top tier tanks and the TTD struck me as the most tanky looking tank of all. It's like what GTA players would describe a tank as.

The stock grind with HEAT is beyond soul crushing. With no MG you can’t knock down trees or bushes or fences that reach out for your shells.
Honestly I just gave up on it. There was nothing about it that made me _need_ to add it at that level of pain.
For me the TTD is one of the most fun to play tank in the British tree. It was hard to get it properly equipped, but then...

i HATE that people are calling this the TTD Centurion, its not based on the centurion in any way and shares zero parts as the vehicle was designed domestically because of the sanctions put on south africa in the 1980's.
They didnt go through with production because by the time this tank was developed enough the sanctions were lifted after SA's first democratic election and it was cheaper to buy an import rather than manufacture this beast.
Nah CAS is still quite OP, with certain BR's where its more reigned in (Strella / Type 81 range)

CASncer indeed. Every time I spawn my Strela I'm like "why are the skies so quiet ? ... Ooooh yeah riiight (looks at the other missiles SPAA around me)"
It's actually way worse at mid-BR with garbage SPAA and just seemingly infinite massive bombs and rockets supply.
Respawn mid-game, drive 100m, get nuked, amazing gameplay. Makes World of Tanks arty feel fun and engaging in comparison.
But oh, pls nerf Strela, flares don't work too well against it waaah waaah waaaah.
There is DM63 at an even lower BR (9.3), if you play China the CM11 has it in its 105mm cannon. Its got thermals and a laser rangefinder as well, Its a true Frankenstein being a mix of an M48 and M60 and an Abrams whilst being coated in ERA.
There's 105 DM63 in that same subtree at 9.3 (Olifant Mk.2), also with gen 2 thermals and LRF. And the 9.3 swedish centurion has the exact same but under a different name too.
It's amazing that even the sabot casing has collision physics even though they dont need to, you can see them hit the ground everytime odd fires
Not only that - sabot casing can penetrate thin skinned vehicles and damage/injure crew members inside...

Maybe that should be his next challenge, get a kill with only the sabot from an apfsds round and not the fin-stabilized penetrator rod!

Ive had this thing for over a month now and i LOVE IT, its really survivable and good mobility for british 10.0, people under estimate it too much!
I'm having seriously mixed results with this thing, the armor is trolly in the sense that sometimes it'll just doink a DM33 and other times a fly can fart at you and you just explode. Then again it may just be skill issues :D
@@gfimadcat take 20 ammo, so only 3 are next to the driver, the rest are protectes by blow out panels
@@tomatimahl I did that but then I consequently run out of ammo, and generally end up sitting in a cap restocking when I either get CAS'd to death or that sneaky Wiesel I didn't see puts a rocket up my (shapely) behind. I'll give it another shot, see if I can git gud :D

CAS is overpowered, its just certain nations get extremely overpowered SPAA and overpowered CAS together, which dominates and ruins the game. Then theres Britain, with no SPAA and no supersonic CAS.
Cas ruined the game, i dont see any point in farming tank kills in a tank gamemode. I bet air rb players wouldnt be fun if we could bring spaa in to air mstches to farm plane killd because they are not intending to fight tanks in air rb

The town square route you took in the 2nd match is where I had my most memorable match, using smoke I managed to outflank 6 preoccupied T-80s in a VFM5, I sat amongst the rubble against the far wall and took them all out with a shot in the back.
13:10 taking out more enemies on the way to drop a nuke, that's how you do it

My highest br currently is 7.3, the grind is pain but watching yours and spookston's videos give me the motivation to continue the grind
that kill with the nuke plan had me pop off. so satisfying to see that. I don't think I've ever seen a kill in one of those before either.
Honestly not a fan of this, the Olifant Mk.2 has the exact same firepower and gen 2 thermals at olnly 9.3, you're better off playing that instead.

The spalling on that shell is unbelievable, seems better than most if not all top tier shells.
DM63 is technically the strongest shell in the game but this tank doesn’t have a gun like the leopard 2 that would make it do 700+ mm pen

Honestly I'm glad enemy engines aren't as loud in live as the spectator cam. The whole point of GRB not having markers is to not have information you wouldn't have, but the notion that you can hear clearly an enemy tank over your own roaring engine inside a buttoned up tank from hundreds of meters is bad enough, but when you can hear enemy planes and sometimes hiding tanks on a flyover in a jet is bananas. It's good they put that minimum 20 on your own engine, but you really should need to shut your own engine down to hear most vehicles with any accuracy at real distance. Otherwise it's just information you wouldn't have in another form - markers for people with good surround sound headsets and good hearing.

Same stupendously lovely 10.0 DM63, but a rather responsive vehicle as a whole, with good turret and gun handling, useable thermals and optics, and a really, really solid reverse that matches the forward gears, just... Chef kiss.
Add a spacious hull and good top speed to the mix with scouting, it's sublime.
I like how this gets DM63 and thermals and the 2av gets DM33 and no thermals at the same BR in exchange for a meaningless increase in armor
You should definitely do a full 8.3 south African 🇿🇦 line up. ZT-3A2, ZA-35, rooikat and MK1 olifant.+one random cas plane.

the only brs where cas isnt op is top tiers where capable spaa are as well as the introduction of helis with aams and fighters with aams that can easily shut down loaded planes before they do any damage if theyre uncontested

Hey Odd, I noticed you said you were using an expert crew at the beginning, I really appreciate that as having ace crews on every tank is unrealistic and expert crews really show the performance that most players can achieve.

There's a lot of tanks around this br with britain that have that ammo, its great. The vfm5 is a highlight for sure, that thing kicks ass
But the VFM5 has DM33, not 63. Really nice shell too, but not quite as good. The 9.3 Olifant has the 63, tho.

I love this tank. Hardly anyone plays it and because of that people don't seem to know how to kill it frontally. Also DM63 is an awesome round.
i gotta correct you in 2 places OddBawZ. Even tho in xray it shows a gap in the armour its actually external armour above and below the barrel totalling almost 600mm of protection. and you have no blatant weakspot on the turret unlike the leopards of the same BR. Its a centurion base with 2a4 suspension concept and its protection and survivability is actually pretty insane for what it is. alot of the time facing turret directly at the thing shooting you will keep you alive more than any other tank due to the way the armour is setup. if they dont shoot perfectly they will non pen. This thing is a load of fun and because its not a common tank to see not alot of people know how to deal with it. Especially those pesky Russian mains that like to spam the Turms T. this tank is a problem for all that face it when in the hands of a capable player.
@@goshagaming Its a whole entirely different tank but the entire base is centurion. Layout, turret layout. Leopard 2a4 inspired suspension and the standard 105. It is its own vehicle entierly yea but it gets majority of its design from the centurion.
@@goshagaming ill put it this way. They wanted to design an MBT for themselves. What have they had as MBTs before they developed the TTD? Cents. Modified cents. So your going to design something that will be familiar to reduce growing pains and training time. So its slightly larger than the olifants, better protecti9n by far, and has one less problem than the cents being its fairly mobile and agile unlike the cents. They took what they knew made it better and redesigned it for thier own needs. Ive nicknamed it the Lepturion because in game it sounds like a cent but is as deadly and mobile as a leo.
@@goshagaming did i say it used centurion parts? No. The entire layout is the same as the cent. If you would read i said it is its own vehicle but takes its layout from the centurion, and its suspension design from the 2a4. Nowhere did i say that it is a centurion.
@@goshagaming Ok so answer me this. What came first? The Abrams, Leopard, or Centurion? Why does the Inner shape of the TTD Match exactly to the Cent mk10? Why dimensionally is the inner of the turret the same as the Cent mk10? Sure the hull is maybe a foot wider and its about 2 feet shorter length wise. But why isnt it like a centurion? your not reading what im saying. South Africa had modified centurions as thier current MBT when designing the TTD. So tell me how its not based off a Centurion when that is what they had and knew at the time? your going to tell me that logic dictates you design something total opposite of what your currently operating to then have to retrain everyone on? yes it never entered service or combat but thats the whole point of designing a tank for your needs isnt it? So tell me why its less like a centurion and more like nothing else? It takes its suspension design from the Leopard 2a4 thats stated right in the design history of the vehicle if you look up the documents. Western MBTs all share similar designs internally for simplicity and almost every 105mm equipped MBT of the time used a modified or copied L7 because it was the standard. So tell me why its not a redesigned improved centurion made by south africa?

Also never once said "it is a centurion" i said its centurion based so maybe learn to read aswell and you wouldnt be arguing the same fact ive already said and proven. I'm only about 100k research from the TTD which also happens to be the last tank in the British tree for me to unlock. It better be good
TBH raise the TTD and the Leopard 2AV BR to 10.3 and give it 5s reload like the first M1 abrams. That'll greatly increase the performance and make it a lot more fun. TTD is so spacious that its mostly hard to kill it in one shot. Armor is shit at its BR but the reload buff will definitely make up for that. It's better than the chally 1 mk2 IMO. Both have comparable armor but the TTD is much more mobile and has a better round.

Cas is indeed overpowered in lower tiers that don’t have radars and such
I might get some flak for this, but the first replay is exactly why I don't play realistic battles. Within a few minutes you have dudes spawn camping. In arcade this shit can happen, but at least you know where they're on the map.

I don't care how fancy you're flying or how good you are, you still should not be able to just ruin games like that when the only actual counter is for someone to get in the air themselves and shoot you down cause ground weapons are so ineffective towards cas and no one wants to play aa because of its horrible rewards and unless there is a plane up you're useless unless you have autocannons
U guys for got about the two plates that are like 600 mm thick on the turret that eat rounds like nothing. I loved this tank but I play at a high br now but was one of my favorites

downloaded WT back in 2020, but only started to play it the "correct way" (as in playing realistic) in mid/late 2021

Maybe you should play the TAM next, tech tree one. I honestly think its an OP tank. Its 99% empty eoace, never dies in one shot even if the ammo is hit. The armor is insanely trolly and can bounce stuff all the time turret cheeks also eat up apfsds, shattering them

ive recently got the brenus, how do you compensate without the stab? I struggle in brawls maybe its just a learning curve.
@@DewthWish just gotta camp or snipe. If you wanna be more active then play as a support tank, popping out to take a shot while the enemy is reloading.
i have max French tech tree now and so far most games and win rates, nukes is with the Brenus. My advices are by now u must have been familiar with French tanks playstyle. Focus on your strength which is incredible acceleration and reverse speed, good gun, auto cannon, good vs atgm, chem rounds lots of smoke. Dont rush in hastly with out awareness, flank, move, stop, move, stop shoot, dont be passive camping or sniping either and eventually you'll be confident enough with the tank and can go brawl vs stabs tanks. @@DewthWish

That’s the best turret in the game ime, probably because of its so rarity. The ONLY negative thing about it is that it has zero MGs/autocannons; it’s a 10/10 vehicle otherwise.

Other tanks shoot - turret bounce. Other tanks not know where to shoot - my guess beacuse not a lot of TTD around.
Cas is stil overpowered, maybe not at top tier but you cant play ground battle without any plain in the line up without geting obliterated
