    I had the same problem, 2 mobile mechanics couldn’t find the problem, local garage had it for a month and sent off the ecu for checking and suggested scrapping it, got it towed to a diagnostic specialist who rebuilt the ecu and it started (a fluke) but it failed to start when i got it back. I am not a mechanic but thought to myself surely there must be fuel in that clear pipe going to the injectors? Found a split in the primer bulb, bought a new one for £8…….squirted a bit of easy start and it’s been purring like a kitten ever since. It seems that if the fault is not displayed on a diagnostic computer nobody knows what to do……

    My primer pump gave up the ghost after changing the fuel filter yesterday, I went to Halfords and bought the same bulb you have, I managed to prize the pipes out of the old bulb and make it look as factory as possible apart from the jubilee clips (hose clips they call them now - showing my age) 😀👍

    Hi Larcs, great video I had tiny air bubbles and upon further inspection it was split between the bulb and the 90 degree connection. The bleed valve you show at 4:10 is this easy to operate? no obvious tool slot or knurling to grip. I have a 2.0 dci 115 trafic and I have the same valve but its further to the right of the engine.
    I did the fix you showed and all the air bubbles went away, it starts a lot better and no longer cuts out so thank you. Will be replacing with genuine bulb in the next week or so. But I do see quite a bit of air behind the valve mentioned and bit concerned about this making its way back as sometimes it is still a little bit tricky to start. Miles better than it was however
    Love the videos 👍

    cannot get it to start . have replaced bulb and from the fuel tank to the filter , I,ve installed a none return valve to prevent draw back ,but still getting air in lower fuel line ,how do I remove the lower connector which you stated you need two hands to remove as I cannot remove it to check its o ring as i,m convinced given the fact the air appears to be entering the fuel line at that point ,from that I can tell it appears to have two directional arrows are they relevant to something as cannot find any info on it .

    I couldn't find the Halfords one so I'll order the ebay one, but yesterday I fixed the little crack at the top of mine with shoe goo 🤣 it's done the job! Though I'm struggling to get all the air out the top of the second pipe, a big bubble sits at the top.. Any tips? Thanks!

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like air is getting in somewhere? Check your filter housing lid seal is good, the vent is tight, the priming bulb, and check the 'O' rings on the pipe fittings to/from the filter housing are good first. Then check the pipe hasn't fretted or got damaged somewhere. I think the pipe is a bit of a 'last resort' as it is a bit of a pain to change ,unless you have a car lift. Good luck sorting it out 🤞, and please keep us updated with what you find.

      I've had lots of comments about it and some have them , some don't. If you've run out of fuel, it'll probably need priming somehow. If it's got an in tank pump, I would expect cycling the ignition until fuel comes out of the filter then down to the pump would do it. Thanks for posting this. I've got the same problem. I tried to replace just the bulb, and managed to damage the bulb and the short top fuel line to the fuel filter (too aggressive with heat, they melted!). I'm thinking I could get a new complete bulb and fuel line, like you installed, then (1) remove the long fuel line from the bottom of the new set and (2) cut the existing bulb from the existing lower fuel line, then (3) fit the new bulb onto the existing lower fuel line. Does that sound sensible? How would I get the old line to fit securely onto the new bulb connector? The connectors look bigger than the fuel line.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, sorry you've lost me a bit? Is there a reason you're not changing the whole line in one? It's a right pain but still do-able. The hoses can be pushed onto the correct size fittings with some heat and swearing, but it is hard. There are kits to do it but they seem expensive. Good luck with sorting it out 🤞.

    When the priming bulb was dry (I had left it over night disconnected) it didn't work for me either. It seems the diesel leaks down into the fuel-tank sloooowly, when disconnected. So I filled it all up with diesel from the top side (Used a big syringe into the tube-plug opening), and it worked again. (The reason I left it overnight disconnected, was because I needed to get a new fuel-filter, and I needed the old for measuring it's dimensions. A new filter might not fit, even though those selling it, insists that it will .... ).

    I'm having a problem now where my van is turning over for a while but starting up once its running its fine apart from the odd time when it's just started and I'm pulling off drive putting clutch in and brake and it trys to cut out but once its warm its fine. If I try and start it agter an hour of leaving it it will turn over for probably 10/15 seconds before firing . I know this is an old video but if anyone can help I'd be greatful

      It might have an in tank pump? Check it's working by taking a pipe off the fuel filter and cycling the ignition, fuel should come pouring out.

      @@LarcsWorkshop Hi Larcs. Mine is the same as yours but like the previous commenter, I have no priming bulb (2002 1.9Di). I have replaced the intank pump/sender unit but still happens on occasion. I can get the van running on brake cleaner and then it runs. But will not fire on its own. I'm assuming it's sucking air in somewhere. Do you reckon replacing the fuel lines and adding a priming bulb is the next logical step? Thanks

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GoProGeeks . If it's got an in-tank pump it should prime itself every time? Is the new one working properly? First thing I'd do would be to prove the pump by taking off the pipe from the filter, sticking the end in a jar and cycling the ignition. The pot should fill with fuel, then check the other side of the filter to check it's not blocked somehow. In theory, any issues after the in-tank pump should be leaking out, not sucking in? Good luck sorting it out 🤞.
      Cheers Larcs 👍

      @@LarcsWorkshop new pump works fine. It was worse the hotter the weather was, its not done it for a few weeks now it's got colder. It would fire right up on brake cleaner and run fine for the rest of the day. Leave it over night and it would crank but not fire. Rinse and repeat. I think the fuel line is getting air locked, brake cleaner turning it over creates vacuum which socks fuel through? Could be completely wrong but that's all I can come up with now.

    The air bleed fitting is on the other side of the filter from the second hose you took off ( clean fuel to lift pump). It looks like your fuel feed from the filter has been replaced at sometime and the protection casing has not been put back. You should also have a plastic surround for the primer bulb.

      It's not unusual for the Non-return valve to fail or get sticky in the bulb. Try disconnecting the bulb outlet, squeezing it, put your finger over the end, then let the bulb expand (replacing the NRV with your finger). Keep doing it for a bit and hopefully you'll get fuel up, it does help if the tank has plenty in it. Good luck 🤞
