Stephen Colbert has accomplished many things in his career, but bringing Jon Batiste to national attention was a gift to the entire world.
When he was still on Colbert's show... I kept saying Mr. Batiste needs way more love than being on a late night show... I knew his moment would come.

I'm just imagining him playing this for Suleika, neither one of them knowing whether she's coming home from the hospital or whether this time, the cancer is going to take her "HOME", and I am tearing up. And then he smiles while playing, and it's clear this man tries his best to live in the moment with gratitude.

This is SUCH a beautiful song! I saw him perform it last night on Colbert's show & had to see it again, because I couldn't get it out of my head. So touching that he wrote it for his wife while she was undergoing chemo for a recurrence of her leukemia. May God heal her & good luck to Jon at the Grammys. Well-deserved nominations.❤❤❤

I'm a humble singer guitarist in an Australian touring 'indie' R&R band but I consider this as one of the sweetest piano ballads I have ever heard and as Batiste said, it was for his wife in hospital.

59 years old and that was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever seen on television I live near his hometown of Kenner LA. So proud of this genius. I got over concerts about 20 years ago, but def looking at tour dates now.

I mean, it's a smart chord choice, but it's a classic jazz substitution.There's so much more to him as a musician than that one choice- specifically the way he blends his classical training with this roots in New Orleans, and now with more Pan-African flavours. That's the true genius and artistry.

This song evokes in me the feeling of being sheltered safe in the arms of my beloved. I’m disabled, and have spent many nights curled up in pain, just so. Thank you for the gift of this song. You are right, it touched my spirit deeply.

One of the coolest moments was sitting in the Late Show audience in the early months of the show. Seats were front row but off to the side - not a great view for the guests, but basically front row seats for the magic that was Jon Batiste and Stay Human.
He's missed on the show, but boy am I glad the rest of the world has caught up to the level of ears listening and accompanying accolades he deserves.
Heart and joy in everything. Rarely in music does so much technical talent coincide with such deep, palpating emotion. We're lucky to get to see it in real time.
A very real blessing for me to see and hear a man... even an African American brother be so in touch with his feelings and emotions. The fact that he's unafraid to express them in such a tender way speaks volumes about his level of maturity as a man and just as a human "being" period. Lovely man....I'd love to know more about his upbringing. ❤❤❤

McCartney would chuckle at this comment... No-one in the Beatles even knew how to read music. He often says they were just a bunch of amateurs that got extremely lucky. The musicianship displayed here is far beyond what McCartney could pull off. (he's still a great musician, don't get me wrong)

This is not the kind of music I would ever just listen to... but OMG hearing him sing and play this put me in tears. I know the story behind this song, and you can't hear this and not feel the love and admiration he has for his wife, and hear the flutter of butterfly wings.
