Watched and listened to Jon on NPR's "Live from Here," last week and he got a standing ovation after every song - +4! He's woke and a genius and compared to Chris Thiely and a young pianist (a New Yorker article has a word for this) as able to obsorb any and all types styles rhythms instruments etc - rare extraordinary talent indeed.

i feel his performances are very Chopin influenced. this definitely has echoes of Chopin's nocturne in c sharp minor (op. posth). and of course the 'quote' from Chopin's piano sonata at the end. he's such a wonderful musician

Perfectly fine version. It’s a nice contrast, where the Cab Calloway original has a very jazz club big band sound versus this interpretation is like a tiny speakeasy in a dimly lit basement filled with cigarette smoke.
That’s my read on it. Beautiful song.

He teases us with those Chopin lines at the start and then pays it off in the end. The way he managed to work those two together and to show the heavy influence of classical music hidden in jazz music was fantastic. New Orleans Jazz has far more features of baroque and romantic era classical than most would thing, but Jon picked it out. My jaw dropped.
