I remember perfectly, It was on the Stephen Colbert Show, a bit in which Stephen goes to New Orleans to meet Jon and his family. In one scene they are walking down the street, Jon has his Melodica, a homeless man comes along, Jons face lights up and starts playing a soulful tune, the homeless man is dirty and wearing a torn down dress but he has a tamborin in his hand, they jam together. For a moment that burn-out guy is no longer a mental health victim or a lifetime of bad decisions, he is a human being. I realized then the true power of music.

I started dancing randomly in the middle of an art museum and I met a man that wouldn’t let me go... that man was simply known as Art Museum Security.
Every time I see Jon Batiste at work, I’m just so struck by how he embodies joy and love for his work. I am totally in awe of his ability to uplift, even in the seemingly darkest times. He’s my hero.

I've watched the late night talk show hosted by Stephen Colbert for a long time. Mr. Baptiste has been the show's band leader for many years and that is how I've heard of JB. Sometimes I wish the show would hi-light his talents more but I'm sure the audience gets to see and enjoy it during a commercial break. The man is AMAZING.

for the record: I'm a journalist, and in a very short 20 minute interview once that likely meant absolutely nothing insofar as it being something to make-or-break his career, he was SOOOO sweet and polite. just saying as I think this should be known!!!!! God, I love this man's energy. Hearing a bit more from him with Stephen Colbert since quarantine, I came to deeply appreciate his warmth and wisdom. And obviously I knew he was extremely talented. But oh my, I did not expect to enjoy his music quite as much as I did.
As masterful as he is with jazz, this was a wonderful surprise. Filled to the brim with that marvelous, effervescent, positive energy that helped me get through rough patches of quarantine.
