My friend got hit by a train and passed the next day. I felt the same way about that and still do till this day. Travis' portrayal of anger is so on point. What an amazing performance

@@maboigilgamesh3231 I think maybe. Water symbolizes change, and they use it all the time in TV. Seems to apply here at maybe a few ways. Plus you could be right about the baptism so that he can see his friend again, worth changing religion.
Ragnars relationship with Athelstan and his relationship with King Eckbert were the two best aspects of the show.

the best part of Ragnar died alongside Athelstan. A truly beautiful and remarkable friendship between two people who were totally different from a cultural pow, growing up, but still made bridge and understood each other and gave the best part of themselves to each other. And now, with his friend gone, it only remained pain and darkness to thd norse king.
Actually they weren't all that different culturally. Religiously they were. The Anglo-Saxons and the Norse were up until the introduction of Christianity into England were more or less the same.
This feels like the beginning of the end for Ragnar’s journey.

Ragnar and Athelstan’s friendship is the greatest presentation of the love of friendship between two men.
It’s just two best friends from two different country’s with 2 different religious beliefs and Ragnar does respect Christians for how strong they believe in their own religion just as Ragnar does for his own
‘We will never meet again my friend.’ A man truly broken by a lost loved one.
It’s even more heartbreaking as this is when Ragnar slowly starts his decline
His speeches to his daughter and to his best friend are just very human and relatable in a way that can’t be explained.
I teared up in this scene. Athelstan was my favorite character. He represented our inner conflicts in life, our struggles and temptations. He went through a lot and his relationship with Ragnar was honest unlike with the others. Ragnar was only reasonable of Vikings who respected others beliefs. RIP Athelstan.
This man acting is one of a kind. Nobody can ever imitate how he act.
I think scenes like this are the only things missing from The Last Kingdom.

Makes me sit and ponder if something similar ever really did happen - if two such different men, culturally and spiritually, ever did meet and feel such sadness at the loss of one of them? My dear friend died at age 27...he always travelled the world to explore and do charity work...I always travelled on business ventures....we crossed paths and just clicked...he would always have such a different perspective to me when we joined each other on our travels...this is why I loved him...may you rest in peace padraig Connolly...

This goodbye speech and the goodbye speech to Gyda, imo were one of the best. This made me tear up, however, Gydas made me cry. Great writing
Even how he ropes/ties a cross for his grave shows true love for the man. Know other vikings have no care in the world for their religion

Man! What a great friendship, Athlestan was intrigued by viking culture but was such a knowledgeable and advanced person, he always fed into Ragnars curiosity and Ragnar admired Athlestans wisdom too! Flokis jealousy really got the best of him and this was the beginning of the end of Ragnar

The best part of this whole scene is the fact he shouts with all his pain "I hate you for leaving me!"
But because he still believes his friend can hear him, he explains why he hates the situation not Athelstan himself "I hate from your loss...there is nothing that can console me now...I am changed...so are you."

I remember thinking, "He's going to get up and he'll knock Floki out." But, then he didn't, and it cut to the scene where Ragnar was carrying the body to bury it. The loss of Athelstan hit me hard, and it was so hard to believe it.
He loved him more than his own blood brother. Just sad ragna was never the same 😔
For a Viking warrior such as King Ragnar to shed tears you know he had to feel an immeasurable loss and sadness for his friend
The way Travis gave this monologue he made me feel the pain and the sorrow that Ragnar was going through.

@@alessioazizi8761 I think it was a bit of both. I dont think he said he wanted to be reunited with Athelstan in Heaven lightly. I think he really meant it. But at the same time, I think he also realized that he could also use that to his advantage. We all know that by the end, Ragnar basically became atheist, and maybe his baptism in Paris was the beginning of that change of heart.

We had so much more to talk about tears me up every time I hear Ragnar say it. I think of the beginning when they first met and all the difficult times they were apart and met once again. It's like their souls are intertwined for divine reasons, such a beautiful bond to share.
Because of their different faiths they tried hard to understand about one another. They won't get to rejoice in the after life. I feel that

You can sweat 4:18 he was about to get up with the cross but doesn’t and looks back , as if he’s lost his strength and will. The attention to detail here in this whole scene is off the charts!
Ragnar saw himself in Atelstan all the characters and behaviour accept for aggression that is why he loves Him so much

3:02-3:16 Travis Fimmel’s acting here in this scene was so real, it looked like he broke character and started using his own accent-- like it was the very real man going through pain and grief.
Show was never the same after Ragnar died, brilliant up until then
This moment is favourite and hits me the hardest, I lost a friend a few years back in 2019, he was 17 and he let himself od instead of coming to me or any of us in our friend group to talk about life. Keep in mind this was a 7 man group so we had a pretty close bond.
Goodbyes ache when the hello and afterglow mean the world. I hate goodbyes 😥, they are probably the hardest thing in this world.
Only started watching a month or so ago and now on the part 2 of the final season. It most definitely went down hill without Ragnar. I’m now only watching in the hope Floki comes back.

This hurts so much because this is how me and my father were so close and he died when I was 23 he was only 68 but it was a bike accident. Plus I adore Travis fimmel.
Raganar was amazing. Wanted to be a simple farmer and loved everyone and didn't care about what religion he was as long as he had friends family and farming land

Travis delivered such acting prowess in the role of Ragnar. I was held riveted to his every performance. Vikings is one of the best series I have been privileged to watch. I hold the whole series on disc, as a proud legacy, for it's research, production, direction & accuracy in storyline & the details of the props. And then we come to the actors, who were so immersed in their roles, as to draw one in, not merely as a viewer, but as a voyeur. Almost wiping tye blood, sweat, mud & tears off oneself, as the scenes unfolded, the sea air lingering in one's nostrils. Until only the memories remain.
