- The final scene of Vikings takes place on the beach in North America.
In his dreams, Ragner keeps asking him to build him a new boat, and Floki says,
"What the hell do you need a new boat for Ragnar, you're dead ! "
Ragnarok • Norse Mythology by Nei...
The start of the show, the first seasons, was brilliant, followed by the sons of Ragnar, which was epic and brutal, with ups and downs, Than that ending, bringing us back to the beginning, Floki, but aged, at the end of his journey, He is an Ant, toiling on the forest floor, relieved from the sun by a leaf. He saw England, Paris, and Ice/Greenland, and reached the Americas. He has fought wars, made Ragnar a legend and for those who surrounded themselves with him, he built the best boats. He fathered children, held a wife, made and lost friends, he killed, humiliated, and hated. He worshipped his Gods, hated foreign gods, he communicated and saw them...Floki murdered Aflestan, betrayed Ragnar, and Floki was tortured. Floki sacrificed all and Floki suffered. He changed, doubting the existence of the Gods, he left his ego, where once he thought he saw and talked to them, he now says, it could never have been any of his business. He accepts that he will die soon. He must be happy a son of Ragnar managed to find him, The son of his former best friend, asks him if death is the end, and both stare at the very sun, sinking into the sea, the very dynamics at play of what they shared words about... Life, purpose, meaning, letting go, death, life after death. Its all there for the reaping.
If they are on the North America east coast... Why is the sunset over the sea?
They are actually looking at a rising sun, arent they? Isnt that even more powerful?
indeed. Only place the sun sets on the east coast is in the gulf of florida. Which idek if that really counts but its still on the east side of country so a gray area i guess lol but they def aint in florida obv. Id love to see them make a spinoff series in the americas with them. Wouldnt be very viking but would be cool to see them discover and travel thru the country. @@Romincus
At that moment, he won his final battle and the halls of Valhalla opened to him.
They should have hired you for their writing.
Excellent thanks
"What the hell you need a new boat for Ragnar you are dead" gets me every time lol.
Somewhere, a young boy dreams of an old viking that builds boats. And he asks him in his dreams to build him a boat...
I love Ubbe & Floki!!! The whole cast was amazing!!! Best Show Ever!!! 🎊🥳💐
Me too! Laugh every time!
Love that
Out of all of the Sons, Ubbe looked the most like his Father. And out of all of the Sons, was the only one to try and realize his Father's dream.
Don't forget his first son is not his it rolo
@@kingragnar6789 Lol this always splits Vikings fans 50/50 down the middle. Personally I think Rollo wanted Bjorn to be his but wasn't. They even say who he looks and acts the most like in the show,
@@kingragnar6789
It's not. Odin visited him when Ragnar died and only Ragnar's sons could see him. So no.
@@Omni-Man also when ragnar asks the priest about his son's future he (the priest) told of bjorn before ragnar specifying by asking "and what about bjorn?"
I think his first son looked more like him than any of the rest
I think Floki's Journey was the best of the show. He went from the most rurthless killer, to the most wise.
I do not believe those two things to be necessarily mutually exclusive. I believe a given time and place can warrant one or the other or even both in equal measures or unequal measures. When protecting ones family or standing for what is righteous, the most ruthless can find a purpose and a wise man is one who can find purpose in preparing to act as the most ruthless when and if need be.
I do not necessarily disagree with your take nor do I assume that you would disagree with my own. I'm merely sharing my own observation as I feel it relates to your own. I think being a complete man is about achieving a balance between ruthlessness and wisdom as one's situation may require at any given time(s). A life well spent is one spent in constant pursuit of that balance and I think that's what Floki was able to achieve by the end of the series.
Either way, I think most would agree that Floki's arch was by far the very best of the show, as you have already pointed out.
that nigga kiled athelstan tho
Floki was just a zelot who did things for his fundementalist sense. He wanted to be the best pagan ever, thought Ragnar was going to lead them into a glorious future that will secure wealth, riches and Valhalla for them.
But in time, what Ragnar wanted was a better life for his people, he wanted farmlands, he wanted his folk to become more than what they are, he wanted things way beyond Floki's vision. Floki was too afraid of change because he feared their identity as Northmen was deteriorating. Even Rollo, in time, was thinking killing christians can't be their goal, they have to find a common ground for everyone's benefit.
After Ragnar's death, and civil war, Floki is just searching to find his gods, and finding nothing in return. All he discovers is more and more questions, more and more mysteries.
@@subutaynoyan5372 Is Floki just a nihilist at this stage?
a nihillist is someone who doesn't see the point in bothering to improve oneself because you'll be dead anyway and everything you worked for is lost.
i personally don't think hes one, hes way too wise at the end to be one, most nihilist's simply dont care, but he clearly does.@@Ubu987

Ubbe wasn't Bjorn, he wasn't Ivar. He was the balance that Ragnar always wanted. For Ubbe to be with Floki in this moment makes me think things that I am unable to verbalise in a TH-cam comment.
Ragner did not need a ship for himself he told him to build a ship so Floki could be cremated on it. Seemed it was message to Floki that he would soon be dead.
Yea I heard that if you start seeing your dead loved ones it means you will most likely die soon

"You look like him* gets me every time 😢
Yeah It does. You realize how Long he's been around. You realize that's its coming to an End and it's been a Long journey.
Floki by far had the best development. From crazed and committed to the gods, to calm, zen, and wise.
I don't think any show brought me on a journey like Vikings. Genuinely saddened when it ended.
Truly sad to see it end.
The Last kingdom did that for me 😪
Man, it sucks.
The last kingdom definitely did it for me before vikings came out
@@picklecheese1vikings came out 2 years before the last kingdom.
The "I love you." made me think of Floki cursing Ragnars casket and then breaking down for a moment to admit he loved him. And I think to Floki, Ubbes "I love you" was almost an extentension of one from Ragnar himself(as floki mentiions he looks like him). And i think for Floki it brought him a measure of closure/peace.
Well said, brother.
Ragnar’s last words to Floki was “I love you” before they went their separate ways
I’m glad Floki lived to the end.
Such a great cast from start to finish.. Probably my favorite series ever. Got invested in so many of the characters
Breaking bad?

Floki went through so much. But he came out alive and beloved.
Ragnar literally asks floki for the boat so he could come along to valhalla cause ragnar misses floki also.
Ragnar died a Christian.
@@PO-wh5fz No he dont
he was open minded to everything and had a rough time accepting a religion or even knowing if they are real or not
But in the end he accepted that maybe every religion is the same while beeing still not the same
In my eyes i can understand exactly what he feels
He still sticked with the vikings and went out like his religion told him.
Odin visited him and ragnar was allowd to enter the hall of valhalla.
if he maybe reached a state where the christian gods allow him to exist in both universe idk
but ragnar in the end ended up as a viking accepting the christians and seeing himself as an christian viking sort of.
But he is in valhalla there are multiple proofs.
Maybe floki just dreamd that stuff cause he miss ragnar maybe there is no religion just like ragnar also said.
I dont believe in any.
But you may never know.
But he didnt end as a christian thats simply not true.
Its liking saying he ended up as a pure viking or pure non believer
he is a mix of everything since he allowd everything to influence his mind.
Something people nowdays dont can.
Nowdays all the religion people difference each other in christian, lgbdg christian, muslim, india so on so on
and everybody think he is in the right with his religion
But everybody forget that were all human and that a religion will forever be unproof and we should accept every one and let the influence take over us to learn new mind states.
cause thats exactly what ragnar did.
@@PO-wh5fz His death speech to Aella says You are wrong , He reaffirmed to Aesir so He could enter VolHoll and wait for His Sons. He only was baptised so He could enter Paris and possibly visit Athelstan in Death
I love this ending... Floki and Ubbe, sitting on a beautiful beach, somewhere in modern day Newfoundland, reminiscing about the past and about life.
This is how you fucking end a show.
Of all the stories and journey the show took us on, I happen to like Ubbe. He was all the best parts of Ragnar and Aslaug with the talent of Ragnar, Rollo or Bjorn with a blade. Ubbe reminded me of way back in season 1, the early episodes where Ragnar was happy being a farmer and warrior. If Ubbe would have taken the throne, instead of all the wars towards the end, I think Ubbe would have eventually worked to find common ground with Rollo. This scene reminds me of most all the early scenes with Ragnar and Floki. Honest but humor in what they were doing.
Rollo didn't want common ground, is the only issue.
this stuff makes my heart very very heavy. It almost feels like tousand tons dropping on me when i open up to those "feelings" or whatever that is. What they all have been thru, all this pain and suffering, all this losses. And you cant rewind time. Its this unbearable finality that you must accept. I cried my heart out when ragnar died, same with björn, i am a grown ass man but that shit got me. It felt like they where very close to me. Something hit me different with this show. I never experienced something so intese like this before, not in a fucking tv show.
When some say" its just a game or show" its never the chase, these works of art, when understood leave us with thoughts, ideas, confrontations, they awake something deep inside any of us. Maybe its our compassionate nature that comes for, who knows. Making us experience stuff that wouldnt be possible, like we were there.
When Lagertha died, Ragna was ready gone, then his "Good" Sons... The show had such a huge impact, on so many levels also for me... And I am too a grown man...
@@NapFloridian yes, it somehow makes me feel very intensly connected. The music also, i listend thru everything of wardruna and it got me hooked. this atmosphere is amazing. it kinda feels like home, feels good.
@@truthhitshardexactly! You're 100% right vikings and especially ragnar's acting was so good you felt transported into there world. The atmosphere, music, everything made you connect, genuinely like and care about the characters.
This was done so well that when ragnar died I cried, and thought about the scenes days, weeks later. It was so epically done in that if I watch the scene of ragnar at his end I get this deep feeling of sadness, but also of goosebumps and a deep feeling of connection to ragnar's character. To this day this still happens even if just randomly seeing it on youtube.
@@alexfpower watching this scene over and over i ask my self, what will be left of me if i die someday? what is left of the guy who always had a stupid/funny line to say. what of my charakter, what parts of me am i taking with me? If i understand myself as a soul that lives on somewhere.
Ubbe and Rollo are the winners of this show lol. Ubbe found some sort of peace and land. Rollo found a kingdom. In real life, I know Rollo has entire generations after him until this day. Ragnar maybe legendary, but Rollo won the bigger picture.
Rollo's decedents later conquered England, William the Conquer
Ragnars descendants also are alive today, more specifically through Sigurd and the Danish royal family
don't know know much about history but was he also a backstabbing terrible brother that betrays his entire family?
@@xeno9 Not at all, in fact the real Rollo and Ragnar are separated by close to 100 years, and not at all related. Ubbe also never sailed to Vinland in fact he died in battle in Wessex around the year 878. None of this show is based on real history save for the characters being based on real people scattered all across actual Norse history and even looser fates to said characters to their actual IRL achievements. Ubbe is the best son ❤
Yes he is.
Much love and appreciation great fans for the support all the years, you are the best.

I realized floki is really the main character of the series hahahaha
The least deserving one lived the longest, actually realistic to real life for once history channel.
Both of them let go of the past and the bloody ways of the Vikings, and got stronger in the process, less self-destructive, allowing them to get old and experiment with new things. I believe that "is that the end" was more about their people, their world as it was, and their culture. Seeing how Ubbe's own brother converted to Christianity or die staying true to their heritage. In the meantime, both Ubbe and Floki let go of the notions of personal glory, war, and Valhalla.
Floki carried the series. Unchanging in his core. He was both philosifer and god's toy.
Its Ragnar and ubbe who told floki they love him ❤😂
I'm glad Ubba fulfilled Tagnars dream but the only thing I didn't like is that he abandoned Björn during his time of need when Ivar and the Rus attacked I believe Björn would've lived if Ubba stuck around until they Killed Ivar but I guess he did what he had to do he didn't wanna fight anymore but still He could've saved Björn
Every human being needs an uncle Floki around.
Vikings is the best Viking series ever. Floki and Rollo were the best characters.
Whn floki says "what business is it of mine" its like hes come full circle. Its too much for him, he doesnt know, and honestly, its not our place to know. Thats his point. He learned to just be.. Be in the moment, and just be.

The current zeitgeist is definitely some kind of anti zen. Mind-constructs rule all now, but the truth of it is of that it's nothing more than collective narcissism.

What annoys me is that kjetil lived a happy life after and rollo too
Still wish the second series finally brought Lief to the Americas and find the descendants of Floki and Ubbe
i'd have liked to have seen a spin off of Bjorn adventuring in the middle east !
Floki is the best character of the show.
all those sons and he only needed the 2 first ones
Amazing series, so many emotions!
...if the sun is setting in the west, over the ocean, wouldn't that mean this is the Pacific Ocean? Not the Atlantic?
They could be sitting on the eastern shore of one of the great lakes facing west.
Not really important but can anyone explain how Ubbe and Floki are sitting watching the sun go down in the east ? , or am i misrembering what time of day the scene was set
They crossed a whole dammn continent just to watch the sunset in blanket.
That's the first thing I thought of. The only plausible explanation is that they were on the western coast of Nova Scotia looking out into the Gulf of Maine. They could also have been on the western shore of an island off Newfoundland, but there's very few places you can't see the mainland on the horizon, especially at sunset.
😂
Friend, I sincerely hope that you know sun goes down in the 'west' and rises from the 'east'. I love the show, but it's important not to forget this simple fact. :P Just messing with you anyway..
The show ended for me when ragnars gay sons came up
Floki in this reminds me of Cohen the Barbarian, from the Terry Pratchett's story, The Troll Bridge.
last season tied everything up perfectly
I just imagine, after all the things Floki has done in the name of his gods, has seen done in the name of his gods, of all the things done to him in the name of others' gods, and indeed living by a faith that told him that to die in battle was the most important thing he could do, Floki got to the end of his life and had no thoughts about gods or the afterlife he'd lived his whole life striving to serve. He doesn't know or even care if there are gods around him or an afterlife. His faith is completely destroyed, and a lot of faithful people he knew are gone, and he's simply carrying on, waiting for the end.
Of all the people in the show from the beginning, he was probably the last one you might think would die in bed, and all the causes he served are gone.
And only now has he truly found peace.
2:56 he even did the EXACT same face as Ragnar when Ragnar told Floki that he loves him
Much love and appreciation great fans for the support all the years, you are the best.❤❤
Do you remember Ragnar?

I wonder how the actors feel after that last shot, happy, sad or what not.
Lovely every time.❤
If you’re wondering about the sunset, they would’ve been in what we call Nova Scotia, looking westward toward the North American continent. The land is too far to see.
Ubbe was the only character I liked after Ragnars Death, he was like his Father and was curious with the same dreams! Could not stand the other brothers! Self Obsessed and Ivar should have been killed immediately! Anything with Ubbe and Floki like the scene above it felt like a fitting conclusion and had the same spirit of the Vikings show near the beginning when Ragnar was alive
2:35 that was the most sincere scene of Floki in the entire Vikings series. The moment he looks Ubba up and down, and then ponder on his face, you can see that spark in his eyes reignite at the aspect of being with Ragnar again. But through his son, Ubba.
I am so mad Floki did not become the new Shaman/See-er (seið-men). The only time he went to see the seer the seer said he was the one he had been waiting for and licked Floki's hand!! But they never mentioned it again what happened?? That would have been so good if he took over and got the full powers... what a wasted opportunity! I love Floki !!!
Floki is the best . Despite his flaws.
Hmm Loki is suffering from depression...
From where they are, the Sun in that position would be rising, not setting. Thus suggesting a new beginning?
An ending that did not suck ass for once
I felt kinda sad seeing this scene... throughout watching Vikings it never really felt captivating, until the end was there, and then I knew I really enjoyed the show.
