1991 Bathurst 1000: Mobil VN - Fast Facts

  • The late Peter Brock talks his way around the Perkins Engineering prepared Mobil VN Commodore ahead of the 1991 Tooheys 1000. Peter briefly talks about the suspension setup and exterior, with the most detail about the interior, or the office as most would say.
    A little chassis history. This is Perkins Engineering chassis PE013 which is still around today in the hands of a private collector. It's in the 1991 Tooheys 1000 livery but retains the Chevrolet 5L engine from the 93 specification it was once upgraded to.
    There isn't a whole lot of videos around the web of the VN Group A. Despite it's lack of success, we do love uploading videos of the VN as it still holds a special part in Australian motorsport history.

    Thank you - we don’t get this type of information these days - I remember watching the A30 at Hume Weir in Victoria what a talent - we miss him.

    I'm from england (now living in NZ), Peter Brock was well known even in British Motorsports. Really enjoy seeing the older ATCC and seeing how the series was Pre 1993.

      @@tippersimracing6070 My ex & I went in 1999, ( Dick Johnson's last year, pretty sure Brock Perkins etc were there racing too ) it was to say the least AWESOME, DJR Fords were Quick esp car 18, lead most of the race, got a flat tire with only a few laps too go, next we see Paul R, feeding horses in the paddock up mountain straight, Fuck man i was gutted, so close, Murphy won ( Kmart Commodore ).
      Seeing Bathurst on TV is one thing BUT being there is quite another!!

    Awesome, back when they resembled the cars we drive every day. Simple machines, and beautiful to watch in the hands of a master like Brock

    Awesome to see Brocky in a VN.......I think the passenger door card,the rearview mirror and the top dash looks like my VN!!!!😛

      I saw in another clip that yep, they did indeed keep the dash trim from the factory! I had a VN as my first car back in 2003, and learned in my mum's.

    Fantastic channel, really enjoying it and keen to see more uploads! I was born in 98' so I missed arguably the greatest era of touring cars not just domestically haha. I find it quite funny Brocky complaining about how much is going on , imagine him seeing modern touring cars and F1 😂

    Brock didn’t mention CAMS let it race even though it did not meet the homologation requirements.

    • @marcpaola1371
      @marcpaola1371 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't meet FIA numbers but it did regionally which is why it was only allowed to compete in Australian and NZ group A and not Europe. Didn't matter because group a was virtually dead by 91. I see you have posted regularly and are clearly not a Brock fan and that's fine, but get your facts straight before posting.

    • @Steveaustin007
      @Steveaustin007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcpaola1371 well the fact is they built 302 : not 500 to be homologated.
      No such thing as regionally, in an international category.
      On Peter , well your wrong again. I knew Peter well , spoke to him at the track , in the pits regularly: when someone comes up to you and knows your name , I’d say you know them well.
      The fact is Peter was a much nicer person to meet than nearly all the drivers . Johnson , Longhurst, And a few others I won’t mention i can’t say the same about them , mainly Ford drivers I didn’t like, so I didn’t talk to them.
      What I do do know is Peter did a lot of thing’s behind the scenes with his team that people wouldn’t want to hear.

    I'd respond with ....
