    Which version (art) do you prefer Hanamikoji or Jixia Academy?

    • @bobnetherton4957
      @bobnetherton4957 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hanamikoji, especially with the deluxe edition play mat and art print.

      I have a copy of both and am glad they did two versions. The gaming industry has a long history of being less than sensitive to gender issues and have often exploited women in their art work and minis. I played the original with a family member who loved the game but was a little bit disappointed in the depiction of women. I bought them the 2nd version.

      I like they did both versions , but I prefer Hanamikoji artwork and that’s why I bought the female version.

      @@michaelp6313 I completely agree with you. I appreciate when publishers include female characters or player boards that are reversible, male on one side, female on the other, ala Robinson Crusoe. Bringing out a more acceptable theme for Jixia Academy was a brilliant decision, and I applaud Emperor S4 and Deep Water Games in the US for supporting it.

    This was one of my first purchases when I got into modern board gaming. I previously lived in Japan for almost nine years, so when I saw this Japan-themed game I bought it without knowing much about it. Huge fan! Everyone I have taught this game to has loved it as well. I feel like it doesn't get the attention it deserves (though it does tend to show up in various top-10 lists from folks like you). I love 花見小路! (And I'm enjoying the filler series.)

    I've had Hanamikoji on my wishlist for a while now but seeing this playthrough has reinforced it as a must buy. Looks so fun! I like the tokens on Jixia Academy but prefer the art on Hanamikoji so now to decide between the two.

    Seeing this game really makes me wish that the card backs were the same as Hanamikoji. That way you could choose to mix/match sets if you wanted. Still, I'm a huge fan of Hanamikoji and will likely pick up Jixia Academy as well.

    Hi M&L, I love your videos! I think you made a mistake at minute 20:32. The control of the scholar does not go to Levine, but it goes in the middle. Thanks a lot for one more great video!

      No, they played correctly. Once a scholar has been claimed, control will never go back to the middle.

      @@theSolemnBard Thanks, this makes sense. Did you read this explicitely in the rule book?

    • @ko9
      @ko9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paolopiccione7470 Yes, in the rulebook it says explicitly for end of the round: "One side is more than the other: The side with more Item Cards wins this Geisha. Move
      the corresponding Victory Marker to the winning side." so not to be the middle.

    Just FYI on the pronunciation of Jixia. It's like 2 separate words - Ji and Xia - rather than all squished together. The 'J' sound is kinda like if you try to pronounce a 'J' and a 'D' at the same time. And the 'X' is kinda inbetween an 'S' and a 'Sh' sound. So altogether it would be pronounced more similar to 'jee sya' rather than jick-see-a. Not really important but it bugged me a little bit lol.
