    Absolutely fantastic game!!! This is one of best fillers in my collection. And surprisingly one of our top 10 city building games.

    Excellent video! Your thoughts at the end were really well articulated and have made me interested in a game that I otherwise would have passed over. Thanks!

      Love the fact that the gameplay doesn't overstay it's welcome!

    He designed Race for the Galaxy, so that 'pay with cards from hand' idea would be familiar to those that have played that one before.

      We own that one but still haven't played it :(

      @@BeforeYouPlay Please play Race! It's so good.

    I really like Race for the Galaxy and San Juan - they also use the discard-a-card-to-pay mechanism. Tom Lehmann designed Race for the Galaxy and worked with the person that designed San Juan. I believe they rethemed this game as Jump Drive, and then re-released The City in a nicer format (like you have here). I've only played Jump Drive a couple times, and wanted to see the city theme because some people don't like space themes. Neat that it plays up to six.

      After watching you play, this looks like a simpler game than Jump Drive. Race for the Galaxy was always a hard game to explain to new players, and they used Jump Drive as a way to "teach" Race. I think I like the simpler mechanisms of The City. Race is still my favorite, but I think this would be easier to break out to teach.

    Thanks for the playthrough. It seems to have a runaway leader issue (card income advantage seems so OP and burning a turn to dig sets other players back pretty hard). Although the quickness of the game mitigates that somewhat, this is probably not for me. For the mechanics of using cards as currency, I think I’ll stick to San Juan or Race for the Galaxy.

    It's a fun game. Didn't know it got a reprint. I played Metropolis, an older version of the same game. I played it a bunch, but found the replayability lacking a bit. Thanks for showcasing! My favorite filler: Age of Civilization and Avalon. Depending on the group.

    Thanks for the review. It saved me a lot of time after a very difficult search for a BGG link as there isn’t a direct one by searching on BGG. This game isn’t for my play groups. Evil Baby Orphanage has the back and forth element that we look for in a filler. The City just seems to give everyone a looking glass at a further and further spread being created each turn with little mitigation. As there is no meaningful player interaction (apart from denying “in play” cards,) it just doesn’t fit in. That said, it does seem like it would meet the filler requirements for other groups that don’t value player interaction higher.

      Probably the hardest game to search for ever because of it's generic name haha! Once someone has a lead there's definitely no stopping it.

    Excellent video again, thank you guys! And I can't express how much I appreciate the "if you like this content, please consider subscribing" instead of the usual "LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE RIGHT NOW FOR MORE AMAZING CONTENT!!!" Already looking forward to your next video! Cheers from Belgium, Cis

    Great video. Question: when you survey, do the 4 discards come from the ones you took or your entire resulting hand?

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can discard any cards, so it's a good way to flush out the cards already existing in your hand. Overall you net 1 extra card.

    I love his other big designs (Race, Roll, Res Arcana), and I’ve been curious about this lighter one. Thanks! The 2019 ‘updated’ edition of this isn’t easy to find though. Are you playing the original release? Hopefully it gets a wider distribution.
    Cat Lady is probably my favorite filler. Acquiring cats, the food to feed them, along with toys and costumes... cute and silly theme, but great gameplay that scales well no matter the player count.

      @petereinzelspiel261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you like Race and Roll I think Jump Drive will be a better fit because it is basically a reskin of the City.

    Thanks for video as I'm looking for nice and quick city builder, but unfortunately I think this one is not for me. If someone have a good pointing card out a round before you (just like Naveen has) there is no way to catch up :/ that is why I think it would frustrate me more than give fun

  • @Thagrynor
    @Thagrynor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was fun to watch. It was hilarious watching Naveen draw like half the deck each turn and have to sort through it all. lol
    Definitely seems like something that would be fun to pick up for a fun quick game. Wonder if there is a solo variant available.
    You should do Terraforming Mars at some point. That would be fun to watch. If you do, make sure you play with Prelude. lol
