I dont wanna say it because I have played some great games but I'm thinking the same thing and to think a month ago I bought and returned this game a day later because I thought it was stupidly frustrating. ONE THING WRONG WITH THIS; he hasn't mastered the art of quickening, he's merely mimicking it by borrowing the arcane power of an Old Hunter's Bone. The only people who have innate quickening are Maria, Gehrman, and the old hunters in the Hunter's Nightmare. Otherwise great work!

What is the real purpose of the hunt? When men are killing beasts, their bloodlust turn them into those very monsters. The hunt create more things to hunt. So, why is there a hunt?
Marcos Lima That's pretty much why. They can't stop it so the only thing they can do is keep fighting and killing beasts till the end to keep yharnam civil.
Cause the blood moon wants the hunt. That's why there is a hunt . The Doll says she had been there for centuries , watching countless hunters . But Gehrman has not been imprisoned for that long , only 2-3 generation of hunters have passed. This same thing has occurred before in history . The paleblood sky and the moon presence hunting other infant great ones . This was just another repeat of that . That's why I think the ascension ending is the best .
I liked Eileen a lot, she was one of the few characters that wants to help you and she had a heavy burden to carry. The way she wants you to keep your hands clean while she deals with the hunters who couldn't stand the beast. I always thought she was the only hunter of hunters and that she pass on that duty to you, if you want to do it. Like the covenant master if this was more like dark souls.
You know what I've been thinking? Hunters go mad from the blood lust after killing many beasts during the Hunt. The blood sings to them. You could say it *echoes*. The Hunters who have gone mad usually pose a big danger on your journey. Sometimes it seems just so unfair, you are vastly outmatched; they seem to be *levels* above you. Some of them possesses outrageous *Vitality* (Crow of Cainhurst, I’m looking at you, you asshat). What if Eileen was so weak compared to her targets was because she refused to slay the beasts unless she had to. She refused to let the blood echo within her. And what are you doing for hours on end? Slaying the same beasts over and over to get their blood echoes to level up. Perhaps you have fallen to the blood as well.... Just something I thought of while grinding for echoes. Don’t take it seriously. ;)
I'm so fucking upset that my Eileen died. I went to watch her kill Henryk and didn't help and she died! I didn't know she could die! I legit almost cried.
Hel Heim The best way to do it is to warp in from the Cathedral Ward lantern and backtrack to where he is. Drop in from behind him "Where you find the red brooch". Backstab then visceral attack him. After that just throw in 2 or 3 attacks to bring him down to just a few points of health. You can do all of that before Eileen shows up. Then just back off and let her finish him.
pr0xy Thanks. I wish I would have known that. It's too late now, I don't wanna restart and I'm a lot further now. I didn't know she could die and I didn't know I could even see the fight. She told me to stay away, and after running around a bit I figured eh what the hell and went to go watch. I stood there for like a minute just watching and then she died. I was so shocked and sad that I let that happen. I thought she had it. It sucked big time.
Hel Heim I hear ya. Well there's always next time if you decide to play again in New Game+ I actually ended up killing her my first play through. You can damage her while you two are fighting Henryk. She went down before he did. lol
My headcanon is that Eileen is alive and went to Gascoigne's home to become the adoptive parent of the two little girls, with us, the player, never telling them about what happened to their parents. She is retired, realizing that her age has finally caught up to her, and decides to spend her life as the parent of the two girls who unfortunately lost their mother, father, and grandfather to that long, cruel night. And honestly, I don't think it would be out of her bound for her to do this, considering how kind she is, and the fact the children are Henryck's granddaughter, who must have been a close friend to Eileen, considering their age.
When I screwed up on my second play-through and had to kill Eileen, I was heartbroken. She's my favourite character and my fight with her is still one of my favourite fights in the entire game, despite how much I hate myself for having to kill her. The fight went for nearly 30 straight minutes because we couldn't hit one another, and as we both had the crow-feather garb, it quickly became a flurry of feathers and I kept losing track of who was who between all the dodging and swiping. Absolutely badass fight.
You know, thinking on it, I think it's not just that everyone went crazy in Yharnam. I think the truth is in the title, "Bloodborne", as in a bloodborne DISEASE. EVERYONE in Yharnam uses blood ministration to heal, to fix biological problems, to do everything it seems like. If the Scourge of the Blood DID come from overusage of the Old Blood as the game implies, in affect everyone in Yharnam is slowly contracting the Scourge as time goes on, and the more and more they use and rely on blood healing (or blood-anything) the more and more likely they are to eventually mutate into a Beast. Hunters, who naturally get injured and fight more then regular civilians, would use the infected blood more and more then everyone else. In addition to being naturally superior combatants, this would leave them more susceptible to more extreme mutations over time as they slowly lost their minds to the Scourge like we see the regular populace doing, as many show signs of mutation like hairer bodies, freakishly long limbs, etc.
+TheBType That's my head canon too. The "old blood" comes from alien presences, and human physiology can't withstand the mutations that the blood causes, even if it seems to heal every single physical problem. The problem comes into being that the blood slowly alters the mental state and physical state of the person who gets treated with it. Eventually, addiction (blood is more intoxicating than alcohol), combined with the heightened mental instability of "bloodlust" (it seems like the Old Blood heightens negative emotions/aggression) makes people go feral and turn into Beasts (perhaps the Old Ones were like beasts in our minds)... Plus Yharnam is messed up already, so people would start using the Old Blood more to push back the Beasts.
Old post but... My idea is that the Old Blood heightens capabilities of both mind and body, with a heightened mind, making your decisions come faster, and most of the time they lead to more blood. More blood leads to an even more heightened mind, and at some point you'll start hunting for the pure high of the blood. That's when the beast takes over. However, it is not poison. Not intentionally, either way... to my eyes it is a form of selection, we the hunters who ascended the dream, i.e. were not absorbed by the moon spirit, turned into an ancient one. Which all i find more symbolic than real. We know from the start it's a dream. Therefore beasts are people who are only interested in power for the pure high of it. The ancient ones are so alien in form because they are such in their thought. They aren't *there* per say, they only test you through their will, as such when we best them, we understood, and our character became alien to our view, basically our characters will transcended our understanding of it as a player. What's more not all Ancient Ones are equals, and debatably the Moon Presence is the stronger of them, for it can "revive" us after they dominated us, therefore what ever lies ahead is another stage to pass. Lastly, i firmly believe that the hunters dream is not the domain of the Moon Presence, but of the Dolls, for it is the thing that empowers and truly heightens our frail characters body, moreover the dream does not fade when the Moon Presence is defeated. While it leaves a lot of loopholes, i think the Doll is something even the ancient ones don't understand, an alien to an ancient, if you will...
I was surprised playing Bloodborne for the second time. I was convinced I would be killing mostly beasts as I remembered it, but through the game I realized how very few real beasts are there, if any at all, and noticed I mostly slayed what once was people.
Actually the Bloody crow of Cainhurst did NOT master the art of quickening... During the fight you can see that he uses an Old Hunter Bone in order to perform the quickening. Once its effects expire, he needs to use the item again, otherwise he will just dodge and jump around normally.
I make a pilgrimage back to this video every once in a while. Eileen is my favorite From character. Simple you might say, but as far as fiction goes, I grew to really care about her character. Bloodborne is a forever favorite..no matter how many times I may have died playing. Sleep well, mum.
It's mentioned that we don't know if Eileen woke willingly. Just imagine if she didn't. Imagine a fight between her and Gehrman. Two old OG badasses going at it. That would be so damn awesome to see
Michael, I have a new level of respect for you. Just to get all the footage yo needed for this video you must have had to make 2-3 maybe even 4 playthoughs to get equipment, dialogue, cutscenes, etc. For a 9 minute video. Hours of gameplay.....for a 9 minute lore masterpiece. I loved your work before but i came to this realization recently. "A workman is worthy of his hire" I won't reference the quote but you have gained another patron. (when I have the time)
I can't believe that I didn't connect waking from the dream (Yharnum Sunrise) with forgetting about the hunt, or at least having a spotty memory of it. Especially since Micolash himself specifically wails about how he'll forget everything once he's awoken.
It seemed to me that Eileen is the closest equivalent to Solaire in Dark Souls. She's the only npc you really "cooperate" with and cares for your well being
When I completed Eileen's quest (second play-through), I was part of the Vile Bloods. She handed over her convenient rune, and I knew there was no use left for her (from both a gameplay and role playing perspective). I killed her for a blood dreg. Afterwards, I felt genuinely guilty. I don't think I've ever felt that guilty about doing something in a game before.
I think... "the waking world" is a dream, too, on some level. It feels like stepping into the past. More and more levels of dream and nightmare... The Hunter's Dream, the city of Yarnham, Mensis, the Schoolhouse, the Nightmare Frontier, the DLC... layers upon layers upon layers. And yet Eileen knows of the doll... it's very mysterious.
Does anyone else realize the old Hunter bone, the one you find in the old workshop, is actually Gerhman's bone? Think about it. I first noticed during my fight with the first Hunter. When he hits his third phase he gains the art of quickening. Also gerhman is trapped in the dream. Why? He has no outside body to return to. And the Hunter bone is found on a grave in the workshop, I think from what I know of the lore that Gerhman is actually dead and we use his bones to gain some of his abilities Just a neat little fact.
While I like this theory you have to remember, there were a lot of hunters, and the one in the workshop could very well be Germans I highly doubt that all the bones are scattered bones of his, and it is a good theory
How did Eileen remember the hunt after getting freed from the dream? Gehrman tells you: "You'll die, forget the dream and awake under the morning sun..." ?
dark paladin dylan No, she remembers the dream. If you end up fighting her, one of her dialogue clips when she kills you says, "You still have dreams? Say hello to the doll for me."
I really want to see yharnam during the day. Maybe it's best left to the imagination, but the beautiful, bright, colorful sunrise at the mercy killing ending looks really nice. Also, there's areas in the game were if you look out at the horizon you can see mountain ranges and stuff and it looks really nice. I kinda wonder if there's another civilization out there.
Easily my favourite hoonter. I wish more of the characters in the game got as much development as her. And well, even then Eileen could have used some more screen time. That's really my only complaint about this game. Too few characters, each with far too little development.
Eileen was always my favorite NPC, loved her weapons, her outfit. Everything, her quest is by far my favorite to do. Rest in Peace Eileen, may you find your worth in the afterlife.
***** Crow masks basically were the masks that Doctor's wore during the Middle Ages I believe, worn to prevent a spread of disease with their patients maybe? As does Eileen in a way, lining the mask with incense to prevent beasthood spreading to her. I might have been way off though...
If i remember correctly, they would stuff herbs (something like that) in the snout or beak, whatever you call it. I don't know the reason for it though
Here's what I don't understand. Eileen was once a hunter, and then German killed her in the dream and now she's in the waking world, right? Okay...but when German kills you in the dream and you wake up in the waking world, you shouldn't remember anything, right? Isn't that what German said? So why does she remember being a hunter?
It's not that they don't remember it at all. They remember it like you'd remember a real dream. You can remember it for a while, but eventually you forget. She, it seems, still hasn't forgotten.
Alan Jay he is the first hunter and as such has been in the dream for a while. He likely has no idea if the hunters remember the dream or not and just assumes possibly hopes they do as he views the place as his prison and doesn't want the hunters to be burdened by that. But the hunters do remember look at Djura he tells you he no longer dreams which means he knows of the dream.
Thank you for doing this, Vaati. It's as Eileen says, this too is part of a Hunter's duty, but only if they have the resolve. I'm proud to have taken up the mantle of a Hunter of Hunters(or the Murder of the Crowfeather, as I like to call them) in Eileen's stead.

I swear this is the best game that I have played in my life
I dont wanna say it because I have played some great games but I'm thinking the same thing and to think a month ago I bought and returned this game a day later because I thought it was stupidly frustrating. Thank God I came back to my senses and bought it right back, looked up guides and slowly but surely made my way to the end and now, I just beat Vicar Amelia in NG+ on my first try. Hell, every boss I've fought so far in NG+ aside from Blood Starved Beast, I've beaten in my first try, I've officially gotten good.
+Matt Josh bro
you made a big mistake but you fix it by buying the game back 😂
no words can describe this game ❤
Same I had this game then for some reason out of the blue I was craving it. Then I was finally able to make it past the first mob then to father Gascoigne.. as soon as I beat him I was hooked.
same
I completely agree! I have been grinding it lately.
I love these videos. They add so much to the lore of the games, making great games even better. Well edited and narrated too.
Markolius Funk Glad it could help your enjoyment, thank you
He aint adding anything. He Inspires you to look closer and behind, IT is already there

What a waste to not end the video with "Tell the little doll i said hello..." Vaati

VaatiVidya I just can't believe you didn't mention the obvious ship. *Dolleen refuses to be ignored!*

110 Montauk nope
@@wolfbrother111 The shippers are beasts of an altogether unholy sort.
Guy Lloyd exactly so maybe he killed an old hunter?
Oh wow yes you are right. He probably passed by Hunters nightmare
Do we see him use / pop the bone's power? Or is it always on?
If it's always on, I'd say he's pretty well mastered it. If not (i.e. if we can see him use it), then no. It's been a while since I fought him, though, so I don't recall!
@@ashengrail We see him use it. You can see him use it in the video.

I know Miyazaki used a lot of Bloodborne's inspiration from Berserk... But wouldn't it be badass for Bloodborne to get its own anime adaptation?
jj malilong
Now that you mention it, Sony does own a controlling interest in Madhouse....
TheNinjaDC OHBOY madhouse eh? we'd probably get 12 episodes up of adventuresup until the cleric beast and then a "tune-in next season" even though it actually just ended
TheNinjaDC Ah, a studio familiar with putting blood on everything. Stellar.
jj malilong no it would suck.... fucking weeaboos. It would sucks the same way as movies made from games, or animes that turn into games
jj malilong No. No it wouldn't.
I refuse to believe Eileen died
Mikey Fine Same here, friend. My belief is that she recovered enough because of that blood she took, and then got away to safety, where she planned to live out the rest of her days in peace, away from the Hunt and her duties to end the madness of other Hunters.
Mikey Fine she didn't die. She just re-spawned at The Nexus.
Mikey Fine "as she finds her eyes become heavier, she closes her eyes thinking she is going to sleep. yet, those eyes will never open searching for the rayof sun"
sorry. just wanna make it a bit dramatic
AstralMuffin105 It's bloodborne, no happy endings in bloodborne.. ever..
NinjaAge
I know, but it's my headcannon that she lived and I'm sticking to it.
I hope my character, who became a Great One at the end, is the final boss in the next Bloodborne
I hope that the Doll is the one before that. I can just see her now, transformed into a Sasori-like murder puppet with a million tricks and weapons hidden eveywhere.
You take up the mantle of Rom and discard your humanity to gain power to actually shift the situation and take control out of the other Old Ones's hands in that ending. If you go up against that, that puts you on the side of the bad guys - welp, against humanity, at least -, I think. I mean, would you do it with the knowledge that you're quite possibly recreating the Gascoigne family tragedy on a mass scale with your victory?
Peter E mine's a great one too

Man, I see people complaining about how Dark Souls 3 is the new Bloodborne 2 and now here you are trying to make Bloodborne 2 the new Dark Souls 3.
pokemon gold/silver had you facing off against Red from the first game, and it was awesome.
The soul's community (And bloodborne included) is so tame and epic compared to other gaming communities.
Lucky Ocelot LOL actually I had some good experience in PVP for the most part, my very first PVP in bloodborne when I got to the nightmare frontier an invader stood back and let me deal with the regular enemies and even let me heal first. I NEVER had a moment like that in any other game.
Lucky Ocelot 2015 and still complaining about honor. Really?
Lucky Ocelot Hell of a lot better than COD, Halo, CS:GO, Battlefield communities.
Lucky Ocelot I thought we all got to the conclusion that everyone should just play however the fuck he wants even if he wants to play according to his honor code or is gank in the forest like years ago.
RisingBob they need to learn about "survival of the fittest." in pvp.
:p
0:27 I love how "blurred" sounds very similar to blood because of his accent.
Unintentional pun at it's finest.
that's a chick not a dude
White Knight Of the Internet I'm talking about the narrator. Not Eileen.
Mordor's Morlord Why not say Vaati lol, this comment section is full of "hoonting of hoonters"
White Knight Of the Internet There was no Eileen quote close to the 0:27 mark. I really don't understand how you got confused by that.
Mordor's Morlord because timestamps don't work with Google+. It just reloads the page and I'm not going to reload the page for "blurred", it's easier to assume and say whoops.
It's almost like a never-ending cycle.
*HMMM*
Noah Morgan Exactly dx
What else are they to do? Open their doors and invite death inside? Sure, their death is inevidable, but still.

Well there's always next time if you decide to play again in New Game+
I actually ended up killing her my first play through. You can damage her while you two are fighting Henryk. She went down before he did. lol
pr0xy Damn that sucks. Yeah I'll definitely save her on my next play through. Thanks for the heads up.
I never even returned to oedon tomb so she went mad. I was so sad.
Love the editting is this video
Da Falcon :D
Ikr, its great. Good job.
Seriously, it's awesome.
She is my favorite character in Bloodborne. Glad you did a video on her
My headcanon is that Eileen is alive and went to Gascoigne's home to become the adoptive parent of the two little girls, with us, the player, never telling them about what happened to their parents.
Awesome video btw :D
Eileen’s my all time favorite Souls character for many reasons. Sad there was nothing you could do to save her..
you can save her from her demise if you keep your distance away from her.
9:00 "removed because you came too close to the truth". That's some nier automata type shit
i saw a lot of lore videos ,but non i like more than yours .
awesome work man
You know, thinking on it, I think it's not just that everyone went crazy in Yharnam.
Sooo... The Scourge is actually a mass Old One poisoning?
TheKueiJin
I really like that. That sounds interesting.
TheKueiJin I heard doll is handwork of Gehrman.
I was surprised playing Bloodborne for the second time. I was convinced I would be killing mostly beasts as I remembered it, but through the game I realized how very few real beasts are there, if any at all, and noticed I mostly slayed what once was people.
Djura convinced you, I suppose.
Listening to Eileen saying "hoonter" never gets old :)
Actually the Bloody crow of Cainhurst did NOT master the art of quickening... During the fight you can see that he uses an Old Hunter Bone in order to perform the quickening. Once its effects expire, he needs to use the item again, otherwise he will just dodge and jump around normally.
5:37 that was so badass you where just like "no, *blade transforms* tis mine"
The line between man and beast is blurred.
Say it faster.
The line between man and beast is blood.
I would kill for one about Lady Maria. I'm absolutely in love with her character.
That would be so damn awesome to see
*A truly beautiful story, and unfortunately, a quite depressing one...*
+shadow heart par for the course then :)
+shadow heart 99% of all Bloodborne's stories.
shadow heart what would a hoonter hoont if that hoonter went mad with the hoont
Michael, I have a new level of respect for you. Just to get all the footage yo needed for this video you must have had to make 2-3 maybe even 4 playthoughs to get equipment, dialogue, cutscenes, etc. For a 9 minute video. Hours of gameplay.....for a 9 minute lore masterpiece. I loved your work before but i came to this realization recently.
"A workman is worthy of his hire" I won't reference the quote but you have gained another patron. (when I have the time)
More like the Bloody Crow of CainHURTS.
I prefer Painhurst
Pretty sure it's the Bloody Crow of Cunthurst...
She's the only npc you really "cooperate" with and cares for your well being
can we get one about the Doll?
Your voice is so quiet and it makes it all so much sadder and creepier
Good job mate

I will third that doll is best waifu
everyone in the know knows that Fake Iosefka is in fact best waifu
xaero xiii I concur
420PraiseIt lol your waifu is an old lady.
Why are all of your videos so perfect? Your narration is so hauntingly melodic.
That ending gave me goosebumps.
Well done, VaatiVidya, you do such a great job at telling these stories.
Rest well Eileen, Know that your work will not be left undone.

PandaMofo yeah i'm so keen, love the whole atmosphere of cainhurst

Eileen the crow~
Does anyone else realize the old Hunter bone, the one you find in the old workshop, is actually Gerhman's bone? Think about it.
I first noticed during my fight with the first Hunter. When he hits his third phase he gains the art of quickening. Also gerhman is trapped in the dream. Why? He has no outside body to return to. And the Hunter bone is found on a grave in the workshop, I think from what I know of the lore that Gerhman is actually dead and we use his bones to gain some of his abilities
Just a neat little fact.
While I like this theory you have to remember, there were a lot of hunters, and the one in the workshop could very well be Germans I highly doubt that all the bones are scattered bones of his, and it is a good theory
Oh I am sorry I read the first sentence wrong yes it very well could be ghermans bone
Well he became a host of the dream, like Malicosh or whatever the cage head guy's name is, and we saw his body...
I thought so too what with the doll occasionally praying in front of that grave.
***** "It is said" Doesn't mean it's true. It's not inconceivable that some facts were misconstrued over time.
Rest in Peace Eileen, hoonter of hoonters
How did Eileen remember the hunt after getting freed from the dream? Gehrman tells you: "You'll die, forget the dream and awake under the morning sun..." ?
Great question VaatiVidya
Same goes for Djura
Lionel Ramos i think its from what she did before she entered the dream as she was still a hunter of hunters
dark paladin dylan No, she remembers the dream. If you end up fighting her, one of her dialogue clips when she kills you says, "You still have dreams? Say hello to the doll for me."
I believe forgetting the dream means that you won't be able to go to the dream Anymore, not like erasing iT from your memory
That ending gave me shivers. Amazing work! I'm in love with your videos, they really make the games alot more enjoyable.
Love your videos .the tone of the narrative fits both Bloodborne and your DS vids.
Vaati, are you working on prepare to cry's (cries?) for the dlc, like Maria, the Orphan, Kos, and the hamlet and other areas?
TheJstriker101 1 year later.....
How many hunters could a hunter of hunters hunt if a hunter of hunters could hunt hunters?
This is Kachun. Been so busy in Hong Kong I still haven't had the chance to reply to you yet. Anyway, keep up the God work!
KC Wong Hey Kachun, work hard! Will keep it up :)
The craftsman of this video is marvelous. The hunter at The Grand Catherdral is ridicoulsly overpowered. Great job on this video.
Every time I finish watching one you your videos I have to sit back, take a deep breath, and think.
a hoonta should hoont beasts.. leave the hoonting of hoontas to me
Lol, i found and watched this video after killed Aileen to get the hunter crow badge early and now i'm sad 😭
She just started attacking me in Oedon Tomb. Is it because I didn't pick up her quests soon enough (before the blood moon?)
yes. You failed her questline, so she lost her sanity and attacks you. You can kill her and take her clothes/blade
No, You ended up hitting her too much while fighting henryk
This was fantastic. I always love your endings that give me (and others I'm sure) chills.
I enjoy ur stories more than the game
Hoonters must hoont...
Easily my favourite hoonter. I wish more of the characters in the game got as much development as her. And well, even then Eileen could have used some more screen time.
That's really my only complaint about this game. Too few characters, each with far too little development.
Gosh dang dude, you make some freaking high quality stuff.... well done!
Eileen was always my favorite NPC, loved her weapons, her outfit.
Everything, her quest is by far my favorite to do.
Rest in Peace Eileen, may you find your worth in the afterlife.
Bed time stories. 😴 thank you
does the crow mask remind anyone else of the masks people wore during the plague?
***** I think that's the idea behind it
Plague Doctor. Surprised more has not been made of it, especially the cane.
***** That's because it's the same thing. They're rudimentary gas masks.
***** ..but at the end when Gehrman kills you, he tells you that you're about to wake up, and when you do, you would forget about the dream.
I think forgetting the hunter's dream just means losing your connection to it. At least that's how I take it.
I came here just to comment this exact same thing lol
Your voice is so perfect for telling dark lore like this man
Thank you for doing this, Vaati. It's as Eileen says, this too is part of a Hunter's duty, but only if they have the resolve. I'm proud to have taken up the mantle of a Hunter of Hunters(or the Murder of the Crowfeather, as I like to call them) in Eileen's stead.
