I can't hit the "like" button hard enough for this video - I love the real "troubleshooting" aspect of it with your travels. Especially the IP address issue - I wouldn't have thought of that. Very well done.
Thanks man! Appreciate the love. Glad it helped!
And thanks for SMASHING the like button 😂
We are using atem television studio in our church, its been so good for us, if your are going for long sdi cables for camera's and outputs, just go for it....
Awesome!! 🙌🏼
Súper helpful, just bought it a week ago, and your video definitely helped me on how to use it!!! Thanks!!
Awesome, glad it was helpful Edwin!
We send propresenter over NDI to obs studio. No hard connection needed. Propresenter 7 have NDI options with alpha channel. That eliminates the hassle to match resolution and frame rate in the atem switcher. And it don’t use a hdmi port on the switcher. Works great!
NDI is a great option to go with! We route it through the switcher so it goes to all the other program outs we send, not just the one that goes to the live stream. NDI is still a good option, especially if you don't want to pick up the extra converter
Thank you so much for explaining all the extras needed for purchase with this equipment, which I didn't realise before.
Sure thing dude!
In regards to the "set the IP address to the switches IP", that's incorrect. If you are interfacing directly to the switcher via ethernet, set your control software computer IP to anything other than .241 in that subnet. That is, 192.168.10.1-254, so 192.168.10.1 would work, etc. The best bet is to have the switcher on a dedicated production VLAN that no one else has routing to.
Yeah that makes sense.. from other videos I’ve watched they said that setting the IP address that matched would work. Obviously from working with it I found that it didn’t! What you’re saying makes more sense for sure! That’s kind of what I was getting at with setting it to an IP address just a few numbers off from each other. But you put it in better words than me! That stuff isn’t necessary my forte.
How do one use same network for Internet. Really struggling with this.
The Enumahs In networking there are some concepts you should understand : gateway, subnet mask, IP address.
Say your router has an address of 192.168.1.254. It probably acts as a gateway to the internet, if it’s got an integrated switch (aka LAN), and a WAN port (or the modem part if it’s an all in one box).
Subnet mask for this IP would probably be 255.255.255.0, which allows it to communicate with every IP address in the 192.168.1.xxx range.
So you would assign to your ATEM equipment an address fitting that range, and not in conflict with an existing one.
Same for your controlling computer.
On most « all in one modem/router/switch boxes » the router automatically assigns an address to computers and other devices, using the DHCP protocol. In the case of Blackmagic devices, they don’t often use that protocol, so you must set the network parameters manually.
In the end, if all the devices use the same Subnet as the Gateway available on your network, all devices should have access to internet.
Édit: I got an IP address wrong sorry :p
Great explanation! 🙌🏼 better than I could put it!
@@ZachBrownMedia having the same issue you had with the IP issues, and that message comes up too. Question I have... Are you saying to set your computer and ATEM to be close, or they have to be slightly different so that that message doesn't come up again?
That IP address change is such a big help. Thanks man!
I gotchu fam 😎
that intro was fire
you can run propresentor straight to a HDMI input on the switcher.. You don't need the decimator. Just set your secondary display output on your computer to either 1080i or 1080p to match the switcher setting.
Yeah, that's true, you don't need the decimator. However, you're then locked into what frame rate or refresh rate your computer is sending. Which for Macs seems to be at least 60fps. You could run your cameras at 60fps to match, but isn't ideal and won't look great. We wanted to run ours at either 24 or 30, so the decimator was the best way to make that happen. It's an extra expense that you could skip if your budget is really tight, but I think for most people it would be worthwhile.
@@ZachBrownMedia I am able to set the HDMI out from a MacBook Air as low as 24 so it works for us.. I have the option of 24 30 50 and 60 listed as Hertz instead of FPS in the refresh rate dropdown in our display settings in system preferences. Of course that may not always be the case for all computers and in those cases a decimator would be needed.
@@walldigital1891 Yeah, that's interesting. In your case, I would say you don't need one! On the computers we've used, we've only had as low as 50 or 60 as our options. Not sure why there would be a difference between Macs, but good to know.
dude this is awesome!! we’ve literally just got the exact same switcher like last week and little bit lost in figuring how to run this thing. This video does help a lot! thanks very much!! really appreciate that 👍🏻🔥
Awesome! Glad it helped!
I’m definitely late to the party here, but also all the switchers in the Atem mini line are auto scaling. Thought it was good to mention, since you talked about it in relation to the television studio. Love your videos!
That's a good point! Should've mentioned that! That can be a huge plus
Thanks for your video, as it did validate what I have read online. One general TH-cam video suggestion; reduce your "windup". This is a 13-min video and you get to your content after the 2-min mark.
Yeah some of it I thought would be beneficial to preface with.. seems like an thing a lot of people on YT end up doing!
@@ZachBrownMedia The opening was well executed and I thank you for the overall content. Perhaps you can add video chapter markers in the future for grumpy people like me. :-) All the best.
😂 duly noted!
Glad I learned about TCP/IP, subnets, layer 2 and 3 bridging and routing back in the day. You NEED to have knowledge to make things work. And reading the manual does indeed help.
Yeah I took a class about all that in college.. never learned anything in the class lol. It slowly started coming back to me when I was working on this.. but at the same time I also wanted to explain the problem in a way that people who don’t have experience with this kind of stuff could understand.
@@ZachBrownMedia I hear ya Zach. To be fair, back in the 90's, I was deep into technology sales of IP based trading systems. A big step up from frame relay and X.25 networks. It was a one way ticket to the heart of geek town.
😂
Great info and production quality for your video. Regarding connecting to the switcher through ethernet, you really shouldn’t have to go through all that. What I find works well is to reserve an address for the switcher under DHCP so that it’s always getting the same address every time. ATEM Software Control seems to handle that well.
Interesting! I'll have to give that a try! Thanks for the input!
OH! MY! GOSH! Seriously the most helpful video I've seen so far! You just saved me hours, thank you!!!!
That was my goal! Thanks!!
Love the video! Thanks. We just bought this for our church. Still learning a lot.
Awesome! Glad it helped!
I just want to say thank you!!! Man I was having hard Tim connecting my MacBook via ethernet!! Huge huge help! Blessing
Sure thing 🤙🏼🤙🏼
It's interesting you say you need to use a mic delay. In my year or so (or longer?) of using the console version of this device, we haven't had issues with audio sync just running audio into the XLRs on the board. Perhaps we lucked out with the delays of the sound board matching with the switcher's delays?
I've definitely learned a lot using it. Looking at the ways we use ours, I still think it was perhaps a bit overkill for our needs, at least for the time being. We don't really use any of the transition options except for crossfade (who wants to do a diamond-shaped wipe over a serious speaking session?). We do use some of the key options but that's mainly because we haven't made use of some of those ProPresenter options. Definitely, one has to weigh present needs against future vision.
For sure! All about what you need! This one has come in handy for the many video outs it has though! We've ended up sending a bunch of outs all over the place.
Yeah, you may not need to adjust audio delay if you're running audio through the switcher. I have seen some people mention that they did, but I haven't needed to run audio through it enough to prove it one way or the other.
Hi. Can I use hdmi cameras and sdi cameras at the same time?
Yes
Can this do multiple programs outs? Like one for the stream that has cameras while a second one on the local with just the presentation?
Yes, through assigning the Aux Out in the Software Control
thanks.. we used ATEM for our church live stream. but too complicated for us and still learning.. thanks for IP address.. we try so many time and it didn't work. I search a lot in TH-cam video nearly 3 years.but no body is telling about that. you are the first person tell about that... thanks.. by the way, go pro camera and Lumis G85 can use church live stream..??
Yeah glad I could help! GoPros are a little iffy. One of the older ones that I tried wouldn’t work.. the newer ones might. You’d have to look around online to see what other people are saying. The G85 should work great!
If you have any other questions you can schedule a call. I’d love to help!

I put this through Google Translate, but I'm still not sure what you mean exactly. Sorry!
after watching this, I would recommend the atem mini pro which is cheaper and way way easier to handle. You would only buy this one if you already have and use sdi camera's
True! That’s probably the case for most people. Personally, for our situation I’m glad that we picked this one up. We’re pretty much maxing out the output sends and we have around four video inputs usually. All of that would more than max out the ATEM Mini Pro.
Like I said in the video, it’s all about what needs you have and what gear best fits those needs!
In fact, after watching this video, I have decided not to buy it ! I even had a budget for it, but I'm glad to discover all what I was curious about... NO HDMI OUT is the worst thing, no direct connection to streaming software.
Yeah, it's definitely not for everybody! But now after having it a few months I'm glad we picked it up! We've already outgrown the ATEM Mini. It's an extra expense to buy a capture card and start using SDI Cables, but it's been a great upgrade for long cable runs to projectors and other places. But in simple setups, you can't go wrong with the ATEM Mini or Mini Pro!!
Can I use any capture card? As we have a capture card already, thinking of getting a converter using sdi to hdmi into the capture card.
@@theenumahs yeah any SDI capture card should work with it!
ey man, Ramiro Loyola from SLP, Mexico, i have the same switcher and i would like to know if i wanted to record the event which recorder would u use?, i know the hyperdeck mini studio or the blackmagic assit will work but i was looking more like ELGATO recorder or something like that, by any chance do u know something about that, thanks in advance man.
I haven’t looked into any third party recorders. It would be simple and easy to run the feed into the Hyperdeck though. That would probably be my first suggestion.
@@ZachBrownMedia yes indeed man but i haven't received it so that is why i was looking more options, but thanks anyway man, god bless u.
@@EnfoqueFotografiaDigital Oh ok, if you're looking for a temporary solution, you could record the feed on a computer with Ecamm or OBS or something like that. All you would need is a capture card to convert to a USB input on your computer
Hi, thanks for the video. My church atem program out port stopped working, we've checked the cable and the converter and eventhe resolution, it's in correctsetting. What could be done please.
Not 100% sure, but can you reprogram one of the SDI outs(5-8) to also do program out?
Yes the SDI outs are natively set to program out. We have a few of those outs going to other TVs in the building! I think you can configure each of those outs if you wanted to, but we’ve never needed that functionality so I haven’t looked into it.
Great video. However, on my computer I can set the refresh rate to 30 when I'm sending the signal through HDMI.
Cool! If you shoot in 30fps as well then you wouldn’t necessarily need the converter. But if you want more flexibility it may be nice to have
hi ,i am looking for some help in live streaming , using ATEM TELEVISION STUDIO 4k
Would love to help! Feel free to set up a Zoom call here:

Great info, I appreciate it very much. Thanks.
Sure thing! 🤙🏼
Hi, thanks for the video. I just want a kind of comparison between using the Atem television studio HD switcher and any of the Atem mini. I want to be able to stream and record. So if I'm going for the Atem television studio HD switcher, what are the various components I'd need to achieve that, comparing that with the Atem mini. And also looking at the pros and cons between the two, in terms of cost, durability, and getting a quality output
Noted! For the most part, the ATEM Mini Pro would be the best bang for your buck and gives you the most features in the simplest usability and price point.
Full Respect For All Information
Thanks!! 🙏🏼
Hi there. Thanks for the video. Quick question please. My setting will have 1-2 cameras + Blackmagic Design ATEM Production Studio 4K ==>into PC ==> software (Wirecast) ==> online streaming. Am I missing something? Thanks
Looks good. Just make sure you have all the connecting pieces.. like a capture card, cables, adapters, etc
*What are you using for audio livestream equipment interface, console, settings etc, etc,? please make a video*
Yes! I’m a planning on making an updated video for our full workflow now that we’ve gone to in-person services and live-streaming.
Great article: thanks Zach, I decided to buy the Atem TV Studio but I found you missed an important point: you cannot import videos into the software, only images, how do you deal with that?
Thanks! That's where ProPresenter comes in! We actually haven't loaded any assets in the switcher yet, since all of our photos/videos come straight from Propresenter into one of the video inputs!
If you want to upload a video into the media player on the atem, you need to export the video as image files. obviously, you wouldn't use this for a regular video, but for something like a "we will be right back" loop, it works well for that. i agree with zach, just use propresenter or something like that if you want to playback videos
You can’t use SDI to HDMI bidirectional converter to get PGM out to zoom or OBS? It has to be a exactly SDI to USB C?
No unfortunately cause a computers hdmi port is only HDMI out. It can’t receive signal. You need a capture card or an BMD Ultrastudio Recorder to get a video input to a computer
@@ZachBrownMedia thank you!
is it possible to output the same source to multiple outputs?
Yes! We send the program out through multiple different outputs
I purchased this switcher & have 2 Canon XA11 cameras. I’m not getting any feed out of them & the frame rate & resolution between the switcher & cameras are the same. Any thoughts?
Hmm, I once tried to use a XA10 with the switcher and had no luck as well.. I’m wondering if those cameras have compatibility issues with it.
If you want, you can schedule a call with me and we can work on figuring this out!
calendly.com/churchmediatraining/15min
It was so helpful! Thank you so much!
Dope! Glad it helped 😎
@@ZachBrownMedia Yeah, it helped a lot for making a list for online prayer meeting and leadership meeting streaming/recording. 2 camcorders and tripods, 2 LED stand lightings, Atem Mini Pro, Portable 15" or 17" monitor for preview, laptop that has intel i7&16GB computing power, 256GB SSD and SATA-USBC 3.1(thunderbolt 3) cable, 4 heavy duty HDMI cables, audio console to 3.5𝝓 cable, LAN cable(adapter needed for Macbook). I suggested it Korean youth adult ministry, and gave away my brand new tripod :) I'm so happy about it.
Awesome! 🙌🏼
Great video! Quick question does the SDI out also send out audio with the video? Or is that separate?
Yeah audio is sent too. Depends on what audio source you choose though.. either from the XLR inputs or if you choose the audio from one of the camera inputs
@@ZachBrownMedia oh okay thank you I’m thinking of sending audio through XLR
Wonderful explanation.. Thank you
Glad it helped! 🙌🏼
Thanks for the very informational video! Not sure if you would know the answer to this but do you think I could implement my atomos ninja v into this setup somehow? Maybe as a recorder to save all the footage?
Yeah, not familiar with that tech specifically, but if it has SDI inputs then it could be used that way. If it’s only HDMI then you would need a converter of some kind.
We're starting to use the Television Studio HD for our productions, too! However, one thing I didn't expect to have to consider is that our Production computer only has one Ethernet port... which is currently connected to another computer synching two instances of Pro Presenter together. Zach, I was wondering if you knew anything about that? Like, if something like an Ethernet hub (like a USB hub) exists. I need for the ATEM and our other computer running ProPresenter to go into the PC. Thank you! Great video.
You could probably use some kind of Gigabit switch like we currently use for Dante, (More on that coming in a video soon!) but we also use USB to Cat 5 adapters to connect Dante and The Atem Control Software to the same computer.. they work pretty well. You just have to plug one in at a time and make sure the connection is correct in network settings, otherwise, the computer seems to get confused.
Here's a link to the ones that we've found that works: amzn.to/3iXeLQu
You can get a network switch like Zach said. I have a 10 port gigabit switch. Internet, atem, hyperdeck, and computers all plug into it via Ethernet. Just need to configure your atem and other devices so it plays well across the network. Can be frustrating to learn but it’s a necessity if you want to grow your production.
@@bryansheehy2000 Awesome setup. I'm definitely going to look into doing this myself!
Thanks man great video helped me out a lot!
Welcome! Glad it helped!!
HDMI can be a whole lot of problems. It's a weak frail connector and it does not carry a signal far (less than 25'). HDMI was intended to hook it up slide onto a shelf and the equipment (TV, DVD player, desktop, etc) NEVER move. Video cameras move (ie pan & tile). Use SDI as much as possible it will save you time, money and headaches. Yes it will cost more upfront just a camera with SDI will run $500 more in the same model. If you use HDMI you will be using lots of connections and adapters which is more points of problems and signal loss. If you are a church thats wanting to get into live streaming go visit at least 3 churches and look at their setup. Just watching a few YT videos will co$t you $$ and time I promise. Nothing wrong with watching some this is a good one with good info but go look at some setups too. Try to pick out one church thats been streaming and or doing TV for at least 5 years their tech guys want mind talking to you.
Oh yeah, I agree, SDI is definitely the way to go. And as much as possible we're using SDI. But I don't think it's a problem if people use cameras that only have an HDMI out. You just need to be sure you know the limitations of HDMI. Plus, there's a reason that half of the inputs on this switcher are HDMI.. it's still a capable input source. And obviously if a church wanted to get into TV Broadcasting, this is not the video for them. This is targeted at churches who are new to jumping into live-streaming, have limited know-how, and limited budget. And that's also true, I'm sure you can call up a lot of bigger churches and their tech guys would love to talk and help people through the problems and situations they're facing. That's one option to find useful info. And of course, not all info on YT is good info.. I know firsthand lol. There's not a lot of great info on this topic out there right now, so I'm trying to at least put people on the right track.
Great video!! You talked about somethings no one talks about hardly ever!
I’m having trouble connecting my television studio to my computer streamer, Ecamm. It’s not reading it. I have the ultrastudio mini recorder connected to my computer but it’s not reading. Need some assistance?
Thanks, that was the goal! Hmmm could be a few things. 1. Are you going out of the correct SDI out on the switcher? 2. You have to select a video input on Ecamm, it may not be currently selected. Start with those two things, hopefully that will take care of the issue
make sure that you have downloaded desktop video setup from blackmagic. you will need this in order for your comp to read the ultrastudio
Hey @zach Brown thanks for the video, it really helped. However I have a question, can you use the Blackmagic Design CONVBDC/SDI/HDMI Video Converter in place of the Decimator DECIMATOR MD-HX Miniature HDMI/SDI Cross Converter in scaling presentation software, will they do the same job?. Thanks
The Black Magic converter would do the same as this Decimator MD-LX: amzn.to/2CGLv1k
But it doesn't work the same as the Decimator MD-HX: amzn.to/32GGfFL
The MD-HX can convert to different frame rates and resolution sizes while the MD-LX and BMD CONVBDC just converts a signal from HDMI to SDI or SDI to HDMI
Hope that makes sense!
Thank you for this video. Question, can you use more than one Program Out? Are those 5 to 8 SDIs programable? I am wondering if this switcher has ONLY one out put option. I am asking because at our church we had 2 older TVS and on both we had outputs failing, stopped working...
So there are
4 SDI Outputs
1 SDI Main Program Out
2 Multiview Outs (1 SDI, 1 HDMI)
and 1 SDI Aux Out
At the moment we don't need to have any different sends besides Program outs and Multiview outs.. so I haven't tried to do this myself, but you should be able to set the Aux Out to something other than the main program out. But I believe that is the only output you can configure separately! Hope that makes sense!
Hey great video, was very informative. I wanted to ask about video cameras, could I get a 4k video camera and it’ll work fine the the video mixer as it only HD?
thanks! Yes you can use 4K cameras with it. But you may have to set those cameras to 1080p to work properly with the switcher
All the cameras that we use shoot 4K and they work fine!
Hi, I have a question, is posible use the DECIMATOR MD-LX HDMI / SDI BI-DIRECTIONAL CONVERTER instead the Magewell SDI USB Capture Plus - 32050 for connect to computer windows and use with OBS? Thanks for your time, great video!
Not quite! Those two pieces of gear serve two different functions. The Decimator converts your signals frame rate/resolution. The Magewell is a capture card that takes your video input and turns it into something that your computer can recognize as a video input.
@@ZachBrownMedia Thanks for your answer, now I understand, I have another question, my church first bought the atem television studio hd, then on the recommendation of someone else they bought the hauppauge hd pvr 2 (if you do not know it please search it in google) this capture HDMI such as video games or any HDMI, do you think it would be a good idea to get an SDI input to HDMI output converter and be able to use both existing devices? We don't have much budget at the moment, thank you very much for your time.
@@jaft86 Yeah you could get this
amzn.to/3awsXha
so you can then go BMTVHD -> Decimator -> HD PVR - computer
or you could get something like this: amzn.to/39SqGxI
so then it would be BMTVHD -> Aja -> Computer
The problem with the HD PVR is that the input is HDMI only.
@@ZachBrownMedia we found this at local store www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FSQYH5O/ its cheaper. Do you think we can use this instead of the decimator? Thanks
You can try it. May not work.. or it may not work well
Awesome video Zach, I bought this switcher and I’m using OBS to stream. I can’t get the audio out on mi Facebook lives. I get perfect video but no audio! Did everything in OBS and still not getting any audio on my Facebook lives. Any suggestions?
Just like you have to select a video source, you also have to select an audio source in OBS. You just have to make sure it’s the right source
how do you connect Atem Televsion hd to Mac so that I can use the Atem control?
Through the Ethernet port!
Is the HDMI out only for multi view?
Yes. There’s also a SDI multi view out. But if you want a program out then you only have SDI to work with
@@ZachBrownMedia Thanks!
nicely done!! Thanks
Appreciate it! 🙌🏼
Any tutorial on how to connect your mac to the switcher?
Watch the full video!
Zach Brown I did and I’m using the same thing as you... but I can get my computer into my atem
You probably need the decorator converter that I mentioned in the video!
@Marco Alvarado ... if you are wanting to control the switcher via the software for the ATEM - you use the ethernet cable to connect the ATEM switcher to your MAC - and then open the required desk window e.g - vision mixer or audio mixer etc.
Thank you so much! Really helped with my research and knowledge. One question: I will be using an external encoder (Resi Ray), but if I want to record the program on the computer running the control software, will I need to bring the program in through a graphic card, or does it come through the ethernet? (I seem to remember there is a recording function in the control software). Thank you so much!
Yeah you’ll need to run another program out through a capture card to record on your computer. The software control has a record feature, but that’s only if you have a Hyperdeck on the network too. So if you wanted to record the program on your computer without buying the Hyperdeck you could record through Ecamm or OBS or something like that.
@@ZachBrownMedia That makes sense. Thank you! Do you know if BM have a similar device that is an encoder also? I was going to get a Datavideo NVS-34 also to use as an encoder/recorder.. but would be nice to use the record feature on the control software.
@@fromuktousa BM has two separate devices for recording and encoding. Hyperdeck for recording and then the Webpresenter for encoding. They just released the new HD version of the webpresenter. We pre-ordered it and hopefully will have it soon. Looking forward to testing it out and I plan on making a video about it once I get my hands on it. But sadly there’s no device from BM that does both at once. But the new web presenter can also work as a capture card in a sense. So you can encode your stream from it, but also run a USB signal to your computer to record or stream, etc.
@@ZachBrownMedia thank you so much for your help!
Hi there. Excellent presentation-thank you. I am considering this over the BM Mini Pro as there are XLR mic inputs. From what you conclude I'm thinking I might be better off (to stream live piano recitals) to go for the Mini -Pro and find a solution for converting XLR mic inputs into 3.5 mm jacks (on the Mini Pro). I've read that this might involve getting a converter (unbalanced to balanced OR vice-versa?) What would you suggest? NB for me the very important factor is having my audio and video PERFECTLY synchronised during the stream AND whilst over a streaming platform such as OBS. Your thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers.
You could run with either switcher. For audio, you can go into an audio interface like I mentioned in the video. That would probably get you better audio results than going through the ATEM Mini for audio. You can easily sync up the audio in your encoder (OBS in your case) you just have to adjust the audio delay in the audio settings. It takes some trial and error but you can get it just about perfect. And if you run the audio through the switcher, you may still need to adjust the audio delay, depending on your setup.
@@ZachBrownMedia Thank very much for your super fast response! Much appreciated. Keep up the great work.
Angelo Villani sure thing, thanks!!
Zach this is so helpful, I just found that out too. One question for you is how did you stream from same pc with the ethernet control. I am having major issue with this. We connect to Internet via ethernet and we need the atem control. Help please. My name is Josephine 😁
Hey! Yeah, we just picked up a couple adapters from amazon! Most of the cat 5 to USB 3.0 adapters work great!
@@ZachBrownMedia oh lovely so convert entry to USB. Great idea.
I think our smaller church was oversold our new setup and I'm struggling to make this work with OBS. I am currently able to get video using VLC video source but would prefer to be able to use Video Capture device. I'm trying to figure out where to connect the capture card which is a HDMI to USB card with a SDI to HDMI converter. I've tried at the SDI output from the MD-HX Decimator and the PGM SDI out from the switcher and all I get is a black screen. Any assistance or suggestions as to what I'm doing incorrectly would be greatly appreciated.
Sure, would love to chat and figure it all out! If you choose a time to meet I'd love to jump on a call with you

make sure your settings match.. OBS can be tricky to setup.. I always have the best luck with OBS at 720p
@@walldigital1891 Thanks! I was able to get the capture card and converter to work once I finally figured out it needed to connect to the Pgm out SDI....and plug in the converter.
DOH!
Do you think that the fact that I dont have any of my cameras on preview it's because the frame rate cause I have on the upper preview and program but not on the lower preview
Hmm, are you saying you're not getting any camera feed at all? or you're only seeing the camera's input on some parts of the multi-view and not other parts?
@@ZachBrownMedia I just see the top 2 the preview and the program but the 8 small previews at the bottom nothing and I have 7 cameras and I dont see any on the small previews, but I'll do a video and post it so you can see it.
Go to your settings in the software control. Check and make sure that all the preview windows are all set to the correct input. They could all be set to black.
If that doesn’t make sense then just set up a call with me and I can explain it better there!

@@ZachBrownMedia I'll go to church today and move settings and I'll schedule call with you in case that doesn't work, and thanks for your help
Can I configure each of the 6 outputs individually or are they all the same?
So there are
4 SDI Outputs
1 SDI Main Program Out
2 Multiview Outs (1 SDI, 1 HDMI)
and 1 SDI Aux Out
At the moment we don't need to have any different sends besides Program outs and Multiview outs.. so I haven't tried to do this myself, but you should be able to set the Aux Out to something other than the main program out. But I believe that is the only output you can configure separately! Hope that makes sense!
Also, are you able to use HDMI and SDI at the same time
Yes all multiview and SDI outputs can be used all at the same time. But there are no Program HDMI outs. There is only an HDMI multiview out
In need of another question. Someone please help. I got an ATEM Mini and I’m sure in the video you stated that you DONT need a video capture card to go along with it, but once I called my streaming company Boxcast. They told me that I still needed a separate video capture care ALONG with the mini. Also when I connect my Mini to my computer if I use the USB output it shows up as a webcam, so would I need the computer I connect it to to have a webcam or can I connect it to the computer as use a separate camera which is what I’m planning on doing.
Sorry for asking so many questions, I just need to clarify. I’m hearing 2 separate things
Hey! I know they’re telling you that you need a video capture card, but the Atem mini is a switcher and a capture card in one. So that’s your capture card.
And you don’t need a webcam. The way that the Atem mini works is that when you plug it in via USB, your computer sees it as a “webcam” input. So in your streaming software you can just select the Atem as a video source.
If you’re still having trouble with Boxcast, I would give Ecamm a try. It’s what I suggest since it’s the simplest streaming encoder to get started.
I have a free trial you can check out here: www.ecamm.com/mac/ecammlive/?fp_ref=zach63
Zach Brown thanks for the clarification
Any tips on how to connect the Magewell capture card to the ATEM software control? It just says that I need a Blackmagic Ultra Studio or a DeckLink card.
Capture card is used for the Program (video feed) out to your computer. The actual software control, however, is controlled via Cat 5 or Ethernet! Those two things each take a different cable, but they both can be connected to the same computer
@@ZachBrownMedia I have the atem connected to my computer okay but the Software Control says that I need a Blackmagic UltraStudio or Decklink card is that something else that I need to purchase?
Jen Cox no you don’t need those, unless you specifically want to use them. They can be helpful but not necessary. You use the capture card to get the video input and it should show up in your streaming software as a video input
@@ZachBrownMedia I think I got it, thanks so much!!
Jen Cox awesome!!
I am looking into getting this product for my church's live stream. i just have a couple questions. Would I need to get this BlackMagic ATEM Studio HD ALONG with a video capture card or can i do the same things with just a video capture card. Also we use another streaming service such as Boxcast to stream. Would I still need the encoder if i have a devise that I am currently using to sream which is connected with the camera I am using?
Yes you need a capture card in order to use the ATEM television studio HD. You can use a capture card by itself but that will only give you one camera input.
With boxcast you should not need a physical encoder to go along with it!
Zach Brown thank you. I ended up getting an ATEM mini which would serve better for our current needs. Another question I have since I use boxcast to stream would I need OBS, or Vmix or something of that sort as the “program used to switch from one camera to the next? I also plan on using ProPresenter as well
Dami Babatunde awesome!
No, Boxcast would take the place of OBS or Vmix. That will take care of the encoding and the streaming. You will switch cameras on the Atem mini and PP can go through one of the video inputs on the Atem as well!
Maybe already asked, but what about latency between different brand of camera's on SDI and HDMI inputs ? is there any tweaking needed & possible ?
Interesting question! Right now I'm not using an SDI camera, but I am using a BMD Pocket 4K, Sony a300 and Panasonic G7s. So 3 different cameras and camera brands.. So far I haven't experienced any latency issues between cameras. So I can't say for sure, but in my experience no
@@ZachBrownMedia hey how are you able to use the Sony a6300 ... I cant get a picture from my Sony a6300 in the ATEM. I can connect a GOPro H5 and a EVA1 cameras ... but none of my other HDMI output cameras seem to show up in the ATEM? Any suggestions??? I did set all cameras to the same video recording format 1080p25.
@@Ukat09 Yeah, I had some issues originally connecting my a6300 successfully to the switcher. I don't think there was anything specific I did to get it to work, I just had to keep adjusting the settings. But first thing I would do is check to make sure that the a6300 is in the 1080p setting. If it's in 4K mode, it won't work. I think the mode needs to be in video mode.. I don't think it works if it's in photo mode.
Hope that helps!
@@ZachBrownMedia hey thanks .. it was a case of - it works if the camera setting is 1080p50 - not 25p. Strange .. bcoz I couldn't use my other cameras. So for me - the fix was to match cameras with the same format settings to the video format setting of the ATEM - and thats my set up. I am using Sony FS100/Sony a7Rii and Sony a6300. Had hoped that I could add the GoPro H5 for a super wide - but ATEM wont see it while in 1080p50 mode. Thanks very much for the starting point to solve my set up. Cheers
@@Ukat09 Sure thing man, glad that helped!
For some reason when I run my pocket cam through the switcher it gets super Saturated and does have that raw look I’m going for. You know how to fix that?
Hmm interesting.. There could be a lot of reasons as there are a few variables at play. Could be your LUT settings on the Pocket, or some settings in the switcher control app. If the switcher and camera are both updated to the most recent software, then you should be able to control color, saturation, hue, etc of the camera from the switcher software. Hope that helps!
Zach Brown Turns out it was the 3-D lut on my pocket camera.
But now I can’t seem to figure out how to use the ATeM software control to control the camera like other people do
@@Ecvpepe Cool, glad you figured it out!
Yeah I actually haven't updated the Pocket yet, so I haven't messed around with it yet! But, if I'm not mistaken, I think it can do all of that just through the HDMI alone?
Really great video!! Subbed.
Thanks dude! Appreciate the follow! 🙌🏼
@@ZachBrownMedia course launch will be huge! Same with this channel
Mat O'Flynn bro thanks for the kind words! Stoked to put more stuff out there!

That's cool question do you know if aux output does program as well?
@@JulioZavala83 We’re not currently using the aux out. But from what I've seen, you should be able to specify the aux out to be anything that you want. So I guess you could also use it as a program out. But I haven't used the aux, so in my personal experience, I'm not sure of its full capability.
But if you just needed another program out, you can use any of the SDI Outputs and the designated Program Out.. which totals to 5 Outs. If you needed more you could run into a converter or splitter of some kind to duplicate the signal.
@@ZachBrownMedia thanks I was asking because I want to run propresenter on proyectors but also being able to set to program during service.
But thanks for you reply man
@@JulioZavala83 Ahh I see. I'm not sure what steps are required, but you can run your program out through your ProPresenter and it works as another layer similar to the way slides, media, backgrounds, etc work in PP.
Hey Zach, thank you for this amazing video, it helped me a lot. I have a big question regarding the ethernetstuff. When I connect the BM Television Studio Pro as you explained everything works fine. But now the ethernet-port is not free anymore. I wanna get wired to the internet. So I bought a USB 3.0 to Ethernet Adaptor from cablecreation (www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01FJQGCB0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), connected it and installed the driver. I can see it in my network settings (Apple Mac) but the internet does not work (just with youtube videos). Everything can't be opened. Any ideas? Thank you so much!
Yeah, we haven't had success with all the ethernet adapters we've used. But currently we are running ethernet into the computer for internet. Then for Dante and the ATEM Control we use these adapters and they have worked great! You may have to go into the Network settings and make sure that they all connected properly
amzn.to/3ayOfLg
Soooo you don’t know about network addressing...cool. - also with the mini, you forgot to mention that every input does frame rate and scaling, so no need for the decimator for ANY input.
Nice!
Thanks 🙏🏼
How are you doing lower 3rds with this?
ProPresenter! We’re formatting a screen to lower thirds lyrics from there. That’s what is being sent through the Decimator Converter! Then you adjust the switcher settings to key out the background to overlay on the video.
If you are using streaming software such as Ecamm or OBS (or similar) you could also run the lower thirds directly through that program too.
Nadine in Japan that’s true! The reason why we use PP is because that one computer is sending the PP output for the main sanctuary and the live stream, which then includes videos that may be played. Which still could be done with bypassing the switcher and going directly to Ecamm or OBS using NDI or Syphon. But for our workflow we prefer running it through the switcher and treating it similar to another camera input
@@ZachBrownMedia Ah that's a great point. I was thinking just purely in running a live stream only, not thinking about running it concurrently with a program onsite. Was using my COVID brain! haha!
Same dude! I’ve had to switch things up a bit since we went back to in person services. You get used to working only for the livestream then realize you have to accommodate 2 different audiences
Bro no need of Capture Card
USB Cable is enough
USB will work for the ATEM Mini series of switchers, and it will also work with the Web Presenter or the new Hyperdeck. For the TV Studio HD, the USB is for firmware updates only, unfortunately
