Hey everyone! I’ve started an entire series of tips on the ATEM, called “ATEM (mini) Tips” - check them out here: th-cam.com/play/PLRe8DcOhgslpSQkH8ycUW9xCmNg2I4b0y.html and don’t forget to subscribe to both this channel th-cam.com/users/photojoseph and my LIVE channel th-cam.com/users/photojosephlive - thanks!!!
@@realtalkradiowithdanlane yes, that was added long after this video was made. I covered that feature here: ATEM Mini / Pro Update for Audio Sync Delay! th-cam.com/video/H07ZW72CSD0/w-d-xo.html
Amazing walk through! Please note the following changes with new firmware: What's new in ATEM Switchers 8.2.3 Update (released 10 June 2020) • Adds adjustable audio delay (1 to 8 frames) on the analog inputs on ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro. • Allows the DVE to scale more than 100% in size on ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro. Thanks again @PhotoJoseph !!!

You missed one key feature changing the camera selections from cut bus to preview mode it would let you use the HDMI out as a preview monitor. Which is huge if you are using the USB c out
Great review. This device has certainly unbeatable value for the money. Basically they killed the Web Presenter and a whole bunch of Roland mixers and a few capture cards. They decided not to totally kill the Atem Television Studio HD by NOT adding a multiview output on this device. Otherwise...P.s. I can confirm that, at the time of this review, the only two switchers in the Atem lineup that can manage the audio delay are the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K and the ATEM Constellation 8K.
Thanks for that info. On most devices the delay isn’t relevant because they are SDI inputs (which are realtime). But of course if you start with an HDMI camera and convert that to SDI, then your delay is already there. It’d be nice to see that added to other hardware for sure.
At the school where I work, the video switcher (a different manufacturer) has the exact same problem as the ATEM Mini when using the audio inputs. As you said, Joseph, they need to be delayed in order to match up with the video sources. One would think that these manufacturers would know this and put in the proper amount of delay on their audio-only inputs. Your solution of feeding good audio to camera 1 is brilliant. Here's a solution for those using a separate mixer for audio. Set up a mix bus (subgroup, aux bus, or directly to an FX bus) to receive all inputs. Send the bus to an effects unit if the channel sends aren't sent directly to the effect. (Many mixers have internal units but external is fine.) Set the effects unit to delay with 100% wet output so that you only hear the delayed output. Send only this effect to your main output. Now you can play with the delay amount until audio and video match closely enough. Please note that I have not tried this but it ought to work if your mixer has the required capabilities.
Thanks Bill. Unfortunately it's not a trivial problem because every HDMI camera is different. However Blackmagic has fixed this in a more recent update to the ATEM software, by adding a programmable delay on the tow MIC/LINE inputs. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/H07ZW72CSD0/w-d-xo.html
Watching th-cam.com/video/qpypd0Z30ZI/w-d-xo.html at 2:22, the presenter mentions that the mic inputs can be offset in time to be in sync with the video!
Thanks very much! I'm an IT and audio guy, just peeking into streaming and seen this product and searched for videos. And your video is ... well ... exactly what I was searching for. Just explaining easy what is possible. Brought me two steps nearer to hit the "buy" botton. But not like these "sales videos" you see for so much products - just easy and understandable - as a guy telling his experience. Great! Just keep going! I really liked the way your doing videos ... einfach angenehm zuzuschauen, sympatisch und sehr gut gemacht! (nice guy, easy and professional in EN). Best regards from Berlin Stefan
Thanks Stefan! Also, side note, your city is one of my favorites in the world. I absolutely love it there. Ever eaten at Al Contadino Sotto Le Stelle on Gormannstraße? I haven't been in nearly a decade, but when I first at there 15 years ago it was one of the best meals of my life. Also where I met John Barlow (EFF). Go figure.
Absolutly amazing video review on Atem Mini, I have come up with a lot of ideas how to utilize it in a actual situation. Thank you very much for doing this.
Damn this lil thing is incredible! As someone who has worked in television and used a variety of switchers I can say the ATEM Mini can hold it's own with the big boys. Excellent review! Subbed!
I have the ATEM mini for about 4 month and now I learned a few thinks things to you what have irritate me all the time. Thanks!!! Aloha from Switzerland BigWill
As I am scratching my head trying to figure out how this musician can set up a live stream, I find this video and your channel. awesome stuff man, you explain in such a way I can understand. thank you for this, and I'll be picking one of these ATEM Minis up.
Thanks for this. BTW... A compressor just makes loud sounds quieter. Threshold sets the point above which the reduction starts occurring (below it nothing happens). Ratio sets what percentage the overage amount is reduced by (i.e 2:1 means the overage is reduced by 50%, 4:1 is reduced by 75% etc...). Attack and release just define how quickly the reduction is applied and how quickly it goes back to normal once the input level drops back below the threshold that you set. Make-up gain isn't really part of the compression process but just an extra "volume knob" put directly after the compressor to conveniently put back some fixed amount of the volume that "might" be lost by the compression process. Compression, for dialogue anyway, is mostly really great for folks who yell (or whisper) a lot, trail off the end of sentences, or vary their distance from the microphone during the performance... none of which really apply to you using a lav and having fairly consistent and well-enunciated speech. Hope that helps a little.
Thanks Lee! I knew some of that, but your use-case clarifies things for sure. I'm about to experiment with expansion in my X-Air X16 since I just figured out that it has that feature, and it worked so well on the ATEM Mini!! Now that I understand what it does (opposite of compression), it makes a lot of sense and I can't wait to get it set up.
Great video showing the full capability of the ATEM mini. You’ve just got me to subscribe.........not sure why I haven’t come across your videos all these years!
Excellent video. I wanted to see a run-through of the Atem Mini after a friend gifted me his when he upgraded yesterday. Then I found your channel. Good stuff!
I just got mine and i gotta say a lot has changed. ALL the inputs including the mic inputs now have delay, dynamics, and parametric EQ. I think it's also worth mentioning that the ATEM Mini PRO does have stream encoding onboard. I'll be honest, I don't know if it was even on the market when you made this video.
Thanks for the excellent review! I love that you mentioned the delay in audio/video with HDMI. Man, I don't even have to read the instruction manual now. ;-)
Hi Joseph just watched the video. This is hands down the BEST overview tour I've seen on the ATEM mini. Thank you for sharing! You just got a new subscriber and I look forward to seeing more videos. Thanks!!
Great product. Great demo. Even I could understand follow along and see what it's uses are. And for just 300 of your Colonial 'bucks' (ahem). That's quite astonishing to me. It only *costs* what it costs, but I can see it's one of those products that's *worth* much more. BM must be killing it these days. While I'm here - have a great xmas fellah.
My man! Haven’t seen you around here in a while. Always good to hear from you… but you’re sarcasm game is low; you feeling alright? Merry Christmas brother. Be well.
You have managed to explain everything i needed to know and more in 1 video, after watching about 10 other tutorials about the atem mini i still didnt get the same info
This was one of those video reviews not many people makes. Very detailed knowledgeable and easy to understand. What brow me to this video was the interest on buying one of this or the M/E 2 4K, yes it is a big difference on prices! I think this will be enough to start doing Live Multicam Switching! I will think and consider the trip to India by the way!!
Glad you enjoyed, and yes it's a hell of a product for hte price. And if you join me in India, you can expect this same level of care and detail! ;-) hehe hope to see you there - photojoseph.com/india
Thanks for overview Joseph. I have found a way to change the size of picture in picture as well as being able to change source of picture in picture. If you go into Palettes on interface and click on upstream key 1 and go over to DVE. Fill source is your click down camera option and alter size below. hope that helps.
I have found DJ equipment manufacturers that wanted to open up functionality did so by implementing long-press into firmware updates. Maybe they could implement a firmware update where if you long press the PIP icon, you could use one of the volume up/down keys to increase the size.
That was a very good tour of the ATEM Mini. As a very fresh user, I get going right away. Of course, a lot still to look into and try out, but it's just for me to see this video again as many times as needed. I'm using the Wirecast software for streaming. Would be interesting to have an idea of using your hardware streamer vs Wirecast (and other software-based solutions). Especially on the go, where I use my MacBook Pro with less power than my iMac, streaming to a number of channels at the same time.
A great review Joseph. You certainly convinced me to buy this, instead of looking at a few other (even more expensive) competing product. One question: I have a Mac from 2015. I believe its USB 2.0. If I feed it the USB3 out from ATEM, will it still work fine as a webcam input? Lastly, that still img you showed, looked grand. Where is that in India? Even though I am from India, I don't know where that place is. Looks splendid.
@@photojoseph Thanks! I will check the USB3. One more probably simpler question. Probably the camera I can use, HAS to support webcam functionality. I don't think any camera can do that. Can it? And also, do I have to simultaneously record? Else, my camera times out and shuts the viewfinder in 30secs.
Your camera has to have clean HDMI out - nothing to do with webcams. Typically once a camera sees that its HDMI port is in use, it disables all sleep times. You're feeding the camera via HDMI into the ATEM Mini, and the ATEM Mini via USB into the computer. The ATEM Mini becomes the "webcam", not the camera.
Thank you for this great presentation. This ATEM mini is a perfect tool for the Covid-era education world. My wife is a superintendent and I need to show this tech to teachers and school leaders
One more awesome feature worth to mention - this device has also an aux output, which means that on the usb you can have one camera and at the same time on hdmi you can simultaneously have turned on another camera than on the usb :) Please show the green screen features!
Spent hours watching your videos whilst being on lockdown! #covid19 Super entertaining and I'm geeking out about this piece of kit. I wish I bought this before my last commercial shoot. I had a 3 day shoot of some conference training. This would have saved me a whole day's worth of editing by cutting live and saving direct to a monitor like the ATMOS.
Thank you for the complete review. The one we ordered finally arrived after two months on back order. For $295 this is a fantastic little box, pairs well with OBS, and Stream Deck (Using Companion). Blackmagic Design really hit the mark for a budget system, that is very powerful.
My studio tour is pretty outdated but see below, and my kit link is kit.com/photojoseph Watch this video first th-cam.com/video/aL1gV3yJvCM/w-d-xo.html and from there, here’s a three-part very detailed look at my setup th-cam.com/play/PLRe8DcOhgslp8kbjeTNG0S6KwR6_u_dyt.html (although it’s over a year old now and some details have changed).
You did a great job! I am going to buy one to keep in my gak bag. You answered my question about mixing sources and frame rates, so that convinced me. THANK YOU!
This product is not for me who wants to IRL stream on the move but I’m liking your videos because they are informing me on hardware options I had not previously known about in a very thorough manner. Options for IRL on the move in bad network conditions are limited and expensive. Will research webcaster x2 now, see if it does bonding 👍
Thank you SO much for the captions!!! Deaf streaming professionals like me appreciate it!! I burst out laughing in a sad bitter way when you announced india 2020. An innocent time…
So much great info, and I definitely did not know about the compression differences between cuts and transitions! Extremely helpful info for keeping the best quality feed! Thanks!
Great tour. Thorough and well informed. There is a way to change the size of the picture in picture. The ATM mini promo video by BlackMagic actually shows how. It's pretty easy.
Thank you for you presentation about the ATEM Mini. I am using mine to broadcast a church service. With what you explained about the audio inputs being out of sync with the cameras, where would you suggest I add my audio control board output so that it will be in sync with the cameras?
@@photojoseph One quick question, you did mention the USB output works as a webcam on any software, I wonder if it will work with Vimeo-Live and Zoom? Do you know?
Definitely works with Zoom. Don't know about Vimeo-Live. It also works with Skype and Facetime, and even TH-cam's own "web cam live" feature. With GoToWebinar, I've discovered that it's actually cropping the entire image, which (after many emails with their tech support) I believe has to do with how they handle "HD", which isn't HD, but is bunch of BS where they consider six video streams together to be HD… anyway, you can't use it with that without additional hardware (i.e. use the HDMI out and convert that to USB). No one has a good answer to why it doesn't work, but it doesn't.
This video is on the ATEM Mini, which you DO need another device to stream. You are referring to the ATEM Mini Pro, Mini Pro ISO, and now the two Extreme. This video was created when the only ATEM on the market with the ATEM Mini.
Very informative, I have never used or thought of using any video switcher ever myself, because these buttons used to scare me but you have introduced and taught me using Video Mixer. Thanks Joseph. By the way, I am from India and when ever you come to India do let me know, we can catch up for coffee or lunch.
Thanks Deepak. India is kind of big ;-) Where are you? Also unfortunately my tour there this year (2020) will have to be postponed to next year. This virus SUCKS.
@@photojoseph I am in New Delhi, and can meet you in Delhi & Banaras as well. I know this is really tough year. But I wish you to have successful Indian tour next year. Keep me posted when you come.
Price point is amazing. I own the little 4 input Roland - which scales. Wondered about having it to be plugged into bigger BMD switcher mainframe. I own that little Epiphan streamer. Amen on hdmi audio. Epiphan Thursday videos suffer with that. Learned in the early days of streaming about transitions getting pixelated. Excellent show this week!
I don't see why you couldn't combine switchers to get more inputs, sure. Could be interesting. The epiphan X2 works great - I did the video on that too, if you hadn't seen it: th-cam.com/video/UuCPuqcAH94/w-d-xo.html
Great review. Bought two of these and other then not being able to reset the default PIP size I love it. One thing to keep in mind is that the unit will set its output to the same size and frame rate as the first source plugged in. You can however change that using the software. A slightly upgraded model with multiview out would be killer even if it raised the price 200$.
Thanks! Yeah it'll be interesting to see where they take this. The $999 model does have multiview so I kind of don't see them adding another level in-between, but we'll see!
Letting know that a separate show about Webcaster would be highly appreciated! Thanks for a great content. I think I'm buying the "pro" version. Scaler + USB to act as a capture card are both killer features for me. Even saving some space on the desk compared to good old Atem Television Studio + Intensity is a huge win.
Hi I have a question cause I was considering buying one of these to improve or live stream for our church. Currently we are using a cannon camcorder with our audio from our soundboard with an hdmi out that goes to a capture device then to the computer but future wise we would like to use multiple cameras for angles and zooming. Does this replace the need of a capture device cause I was looking at buying the u-tap hdmi to usb 3.0 but have watched several videos on this and I am not sure if you need both.
Well done! Thanks for this! I have been using the bi-directional SDI HDMI micro converter and was looking for something like this! When you turned on the expander, I personally didn't notice much of a difference.
Another Fix for syncing audio to video IF you're using Windows... One fix is (as I think you have noted) just adding delay in OBS IF you are using OBS. Another albeit more complicated but better in other ways, is using either Voicemeeter Banana (donationware) or Potato ($30?) version. They are essentially a replacement for what the windows internal sound mixing and routing system could have been if it were designed specifically for audio engineers. It adds a TON of functionality. One very small bit of that is the ability to add a specific amount of delay to a specific output for anything that's routed through it. The software does add a fair bit of complexity and if you are not really familiar with audio routing and digital audio it can get really frustrating pretty quickly. But the lack of routing/mixing/pathing/inserting capabilities inside widows itself has ever frustrated you... this is an option that has worked really well and consistently for me to solve some other problems. And I think it would work well to solve this one too IF you are on windows and running that audio signal from your switcher through a PC. If you check it out the function is in the MENU under "Monitoring Synchro Delay" once you have your inputs correctly routed to your outputs.
no, you can output to the computer via USB C but you'll get a better quality image if you go HDMI to a converter into the computer. Not massively better, and for live streaming it's unlikely to be worth the hassle.
If you're using it for music performances, then you'll likely have a mixer between the source and the ATEM, and most advanced mixers offer a delay function. And if not, check out this box, which adds programmable delay: geni.us/VePn
My QuickTime recordings would constantly fail 25 seconds in when using just the webcam out on the Atem Mini. Using the Atem Mini HDMI out THROUGH my ElGato CamLink has given me rock solid performance, though! the result looks way better than when I capture through the Atem Mini Webcam out, too.
Great and useful review! I wonder if the audio effects include a delay which you could use on the audio input to sync the audio to the video? Also, is it possible to plug GoPro straight in with Micro HDMI to HDMI or do you still need something like Blackmagic’s Mini Recorder to concert? Thanks and subscribed!
I've asked BMD to add a programable delay to the audio, but I don't know if it's technically possible or not. There currently (as of April 2020) there is not one. And yes the GoPro can go straight into the ATEM Mini.
PhotoJoseph thanks! I’m currently running different delays to sync the webcams to the HDMI feed, and another on audio to sync the cameras to that, I’m wondering if when connected (eg to OBS) if the audio from the ATEM appears as an audio interface so you can add delay independently to the audio? Thanks! I have a temporary solution seems to be working for the moment using Touch Portal for scène control..
Brilliant video. Thank you so much. Can I ask a question please? I wish to use this to record playing acoustic acts and wish to know if there is any way to put a timer on cameras to rotate round? Eg whilst we play can camera 1 be recording for 10 second then switch to camera 2 for 5 seconds then camera 1 for 10 seconds then camera 3 for 5 sec etc? Would be amazing to do this so can play and make a broadcast without having to press buttons as be difficult whilst playing.
What if I don’t want to stream live? Just use the mini as a camera switcher and record the feed in HD or 2K and the edit it in FCPX? Can I do that with my atem mini or is just for live streaming?
Yes. With the original ATEM Mini (the mode in this video) you would need an external recorder like one from Atomos to record the “Program” (that’s the switched show). If you have the next model up, the ATEM Mini Pro, then it will record the Program to an attached USB drive. If you step up to the top model, the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, that one will record the Program *and* each individual camera feed (called an “ISO”) to the USB drive. I’ve done videos on all of these - th-cam.com/play/PLRe8DcOhgslpIuaAUC7JqGLOQw2X44DFH.html
Excellent show. Got our ATEM Mini Pro yesterday and wanted a quick overview. Obviously this was the Mini, but it was still a great tutorial. Thanks. What would I like to see? A deep dive into keying (Luma, Chorma and Alpha, if that’s even possible).
Great review and super simple explanations of the features. I have one of these and after watching your show I know how to use it for my intended purpose in my film production company. Awesome!
I’m not sure I follow…. You want to mix two mics, but without a mixer? I don’t follow where software would come in… mics into a camera directly is all hardware. Or do you mean to take two mics into a computer, mix them in software, then connect them to the ATEM? You could do that.
I know it might be "too late" to write this more than a year after this review got aired... BUT... As far as I know, the ATEM mini HAS a "audio input delay" controlled in software. Great review anyway! Happy New Year 2021! :)
Hello Joseph, congratulations as I think your presentations are the best explaining documents for the ATEM mini. I´m about to receive my box and have a question: I´ll not have a Streamcaster, I´m thinking about using my mac as the streaming device, so if I want to connect the computer to one of the ATEM´s input to play videos or to show some slides can I still use that same computer for the streaming? using OBS or some other streaming software.
To be clear, you got an ATME Mini, not a Pro or higher, right? The short answer is yes but please elaborate on how you want to use it and I’ll make it one of my new mini Tips.
@@photojoseph All right, I'll be focusing in small events for business, this means 2 or no more than 3 camera angles (1 wide and the others as close shots) pointing to a talent head or a product. Then I'll need to play pre-recorded videos from my computer + slides from a presentation maybe, etc. Think of something small like a business webinar or something bigger like a remote school graduation ceremony where there's someone speaking in front, and from time to time you can see photo slides of the students been graduated. I hope you get my idea... I'm trying to do this the simplest way. What I don't know is if I can use the same computer to play the videos and at the same time use it to make the streaming (I don't even know what software I'll be using). So in recap ATEM mini inputs 1, 2 & 3 for cameras and 4 for the video / slide player (My Mac), I don't have the ATEM Mini yet to try the connections but It will be great if you shown me some kind of enlightenment!! Regards my friend
Great review! I like the way you explain stuff like the difference between transition and fast cut. I'm a bit wiser now..:) Plus, I'll most likely order beast for my multicam streaming drum lessons. Thanks!
Always loved my ATEM products. THIS is what they really needed to do at some point since NewTek had their built in scales forever. I'd replace this with my TVS to work with my TC1 for events in our office and never go back!
Hey Joe... that was an excellent tour...thanks, learnt a lot.... also love your fascination for India photography...!! btw, I'm from India, lol... thanks again...
This was exactly what I needed to watch before purchasing ! Just a question, as I have planned to use it as you've used on your show "Live to tape". Very new to this so how did you record the whole show live to tape? to what software was it going into? Having a hard time understanding it was recorded? Hope the question makes sense
This one was recorded by putting an HDMI recorder (an ATOMOS Ninja) between the ATEM and the TV. However now, the ATEM Mini Pro and Pro ISO have the ability to record to a USB drive.
Thank you for your help. When we run our camera into the ATEM mini, then out to our RESI encoder, everything looks fine. As soon as I add our computer’s ProPresenter into into HDMI two and turn on the key it makes the overall camera image dark.
Wow what an amazing video. I think this might be the solution for a video podcast to be able to switch in real time as opposed to manually switching in post which has been taking an absurd amount of time! Questions for you: How many files created? A combined file as you switch plus all individual files? I ask because if I messed up the switch and need to edit in post. Does this device work for 4K files?
Are you sure you're commenting on the right video? This is the original ATEM video which has no recording. Maybe you're thinking of the new ATEM Mini Pro ISO? th-cam.com/video/vwPH4l5R-dw/w-d-xo.html
@@photojoseph Thanks! Yep definitely the right video. I ask because you mentioned that you weren't live when you filmed this. I'm assuming you had a video capture device saving everything as you were switching?
@@photojoseph might save a few bucks without all the extra jazz if I don't care for multi-cam and the added features of the newer models. Thank you again sir! Keep up the great work. Learn a lot from you!
Streaming encoder, so a transmitter, not receiver. However that's been discontinued unfortunately (right after I made this video, annoyingly enough). However the ATEM Mini Pro and Pro ISO both have encoders built into them, so no separate encoder needed! th-cam.com/play/PLRe8DcOhgslpIuaAUC7JqGLOQw2X44DFH.html
Great overview of this cool little product. I paid almost as much for 2 USB capture devices. At $300 this seems to be an amazing value. Thanks for sharing.
It really is. Scalers start at about $200 each and those don't usually do framerate conversions; those start at $400. And the green screen keyer used to be a $2,000 piece of dedicated hardware!!

@@photojoseph I totally agree.
oly problem are hdmi inputs and no sdi return feed to controll the cams
As usual a perfect and detailed review !!!
why thank you very much!
Best regards from Berlin

Thanks Stefan! Also, side note, your city is one of my favorites in the world. I absolutely love it there. Ever eaten at Al Contadino Sotto Le Stelle on Gormannstraße? I haven't been in nearly a decade, but when I first at there 15 years ago it was one of the best meals of my life. Also where I met John Barlow (EFF). Go figure.

Nice tutorial for the ATEM mini. We're getting one in about a week for use on our Church's live stream.
Absolutly amazing video review on Atem Mini, I have come up with a lot of ideas how to utilize it in a actual situation.
Thank you very much for doing this.
Thank you, I appreciate that! If you haven't bought yet, DVE Store just told me on Christmas Eve that they got 50 more in stock! geni.us/ATEMmini
only problem is HDMI. it realy kills the bmd atem mini for pro use.
Damn this lil thing is incredible! As someone who has worked in television and used a variety of switchers I can say the ATEM Mini can hold it's own with the big boys. Excellent review!
Subbed!
Thanks, and yeah, this is an impressive unit for sure
Why it makes me laugh when I hear somebody from 2019 how he's saying where will he travel in 2020? Ha! Sorry for that cynicism. Good video, mate!
yeah, I laugh… then cry…
I have the ATEM mini for about 4 month and now I learned a few thinks things to you what have irritate me all the time. Thanks!!! Aloha from Switzerland BigWill

As I am scratching my head trying to figure out how this musician can set up a live stream, I find this video and your channel. awesome stuff man, you explain in such a way I can understand. thank you for this, and I'll be picking one of these ATEM Minis up.
excellent, I'm glad I could help!
This is how a review should be done. Excellent step by step job explaining!!!!
Thank you!
Good stuff!
Right on! I've got a ton of videos on the ATEM here. Enjoy!
Man, I don't even have to read the instruction manual now. ;-)
Haha glad you enjoyed!
Hi Joseph just watched the video. This is hands down the BEST overview tour I've seen on the ATEM mini. Thank you for sharing! You just got a new subscriber and I look forward to seeing more videos. Thanks!!
nice, thank you!
Excellent video overview. I wish more product overviews were as well composed as this. Great job!
Thank you!
Be well.
You have managed to explain everything i needed to know and more in 1 video, after watching about 10 other tutorials about the atem mini i still didnt get the same info
haha glad to help. My videos may be long… but they attempt to be thorough ;-)
Brilliant demo, very informative. Your presentation style is just brilliant. I'm sold on this device, it's exactly what I need. Cheers!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Yes, you have full control over the PiP in the software.
Here’s another one… sheesh sorry. If you have any questions to let me know.
No, you do have to have USB3. But my MacBook Pro is from 2014 and it has USB 3.
Oh and India… that was Varanasi
One more awesome feature worth to mention - this device has also an aux output, which means that on the usb you can have one camera and at the same time on hdmi you can simultaneously have turned on another camera than on the usb :)
Please show the green screen features!
I covered the use of HDMI out vs USB-C out in the next video, th-cam.com/video/sFH-dT2s02w/w-d-xo.html - I haven't looked at greenscreen yet.
It's a great piece of gear, for sure! Glad you found my video 😊
Thank you for the complete review. The one we ordered finally arrived after two months on back order. For $295 this is a fantastic little box, pairs well with OBS, and Stream Deck (Using Companion). Blackmagic Design really hit the mark for a budget system, that is very powerful.
When using with OBS did you have issues with the delay of sound and visual matching up?
@@DavidCastoExperience yes. you have to syncronize

This product is not for me who wants to IRL stream on the move but I’m liking your videos because they are informing me on hardware options I had not previously known about in a very thorough manner.
Options for IRL on the move in bad network conditions are limited and expensive.

So much great info, and I definitely did not know about the compression differences between cuts and transitions! Extremely helpful info for keeping the best quality feed! Thanks!
Excellent presentation and delivery Joseph!
Great tour. Thorough and well informed. There is a way to change the size of the picture in picture. The ATM mini promo video by BlackMagic actually shows how. It's pretty easy.
yes, I covered that in here, it's in the software
Thank you for you presentation about the ATEM Mini. I am using mine to broadcast a church service. With what you explained about the audio inputs being out of sync with the cameras, where would you suggest I add my audio control board output so that it will be in sync with the cameras?
Actually the ATEM now has sync shifting built in: th-cam.com/video/H07ZW72CSD0/w-d-xo.html
I just bought the pro one to spare some time in video editing but you just gave me a whole tutorial. Awesome. Thanks ;)

I really appreciate that, thanks
5:22 You do not need another device to stream with the ATEM mini. Just set it up with your streaming key, plug in a network cable and push stream.
This video is on the ATEM Mini, which you DO need another device to stream. You are referring to the ATEM Mini Pro, Mini Pro ISO, and now the two Extreme. This video was created when the only ATEM on the market with the ATEM Mini.
@@photojoseph Thanks 😊 I'm so glad I got the pro. Arriving today.

Thank you for the video! Just got my ATEM mini and I can't wait to work it with my URSA pro and my GH 4.
@@photojoseph Wanted to say again how much I enjoyed your review. Subbed.
Thank you!
@@photojoseph They saw my comment and had the product out in a week! That is service.
Yes it does replace a capture device. The ATEM *is* a capture device.
Well done! Thanks for this! I have been using the bi-directional SDI HDMI micro converter and was looking for something like this! When you turned on the expander, I personally didn't notice much of a difference.
sweet! Hope it works out for you ;-)
Another Fix for syncing audio to video IF you're using Windows...
Awesome advice, thanks!
Very good video. Easy to follow, you kept my attention the whole time. One question, do you have to use a video capture card to output to a computer?
no, you can output to the computer via USB C but you'll get a better quality image if you go HDMI to a converter into the computer. Not massively better, and for live streaming it's unlikely to be worth the hassle.
Excellent. Very informative. I want this but am concerned about the audio delay issue (be using for live music performance).
If you're using it for music performances, then you'll likely have a mixer between the source and the ATEM, and most advanced mixers offer a delay function. And if not, check out this box, which adds programmable delay: geni.us/VePn
Best in depth review I've seen on this.. thanks so much.
Subbed, great channel.
Thanks!
It does. I showed that towards the end of this video th-cam.com/video/UuCPuqcAH94/w-d-xo.html
I thought the Fairlight Audio would allow for delay of line ins... And it goes without saying, THANK YOU for the review!
Would be amazing to do this so can play and make a broadcast without having to press buttons as be difficult whilst playing.
you can build a macro that does that, and set the macro to loop. So, yes.
Fantastic Presentation! You make it so incredibly easy to follow and understand. Getting one!!
Aw thank you, I appreciate that!
I’ve done videos on all of these -

Awesome!
Nice to hear, thanks for letting me know!
Great presentation! Thank you. Is there a controlled (software mixer) audio work around for two mic sources into camera 1 without a mixer.
I’m not sure I follow…. You want to mix two mics, but without a mixer? I don’t follow where software would come in… mics into a camera directly is all hardware. Or do you mean to take two mics into a computer, mix them in software, then connect them to the ATEM? You could do that.
Very awesome tutorial. Thanks, just bought an ATEM to use with my BMPCC4k, and my HD Sony XDCAM.
It looks like the Webcaster X2 is no longer available...any other suggestions? Great demo, by the way!
I know it might be "too late" to write this more than a year after this review got aired... BUT... As far as I know, the ATEM mini HAS a "audio input delay" controlled in software. Great review anyway! Happy New Year 2021! :)
Yes, that feature was added long after I made this video: th-cam.com/video/H07ZW72CSD0/w-d-xo.html
at 24 min you get into delay screen adjust clip rate for the number of frames delay between your camera and audio inputs.
I don't follow… what are you seeing?
In wirecast you can delay Audio to matchup with the video
yes you can. And OBS as well.
@@photojoseph Hey thanks, I'll work on the requirements and how I plan to use it ASAP. And yes, is the ATEM mini, not Pro or any other.

Great video! This was the ATEM mini video I've been searching for! Thank you!1

Thank you for your help. When we run our camera into the ATEM mini, then out to our RESI encoder, everything looks fine. As soon as I add our computer’s ProPresenter into into HDMI two and turn on the key it makes the overall camera image dark.

@@photojoseph Thanks! Yep definitely the right video. I ask because you mentioned that you weren't live when you filmed this. I'm assuming you had a video capture device saving everything as you were switching?
Oh I see. Yes, I was feeding the HDMI out from the ATEM into an ATOMOS Ninja recorder
@@photojoseph might save a few bucks without all the extra jazz if I don't care for multi-cam and the added features of the newer models. Thank you again sir! Keep up the great work. Learn a lot from you!
Thanks!
Make a video about the receiver mentioned at 6 min pls
Great review. Can’t believe BMD didn’t give us an option to delay audio since video is through hdmi and audio can be through 3.5mm...
I know… the one flaw!
Hi Joseph! Just found your channel. So glad I did:) Thank you for sharing your love and knowledge of the tech!
Thanks for watching!
Did you see the video by Aaron Parecki
that shows how to unlock even more Pro features?
I skimmed his show. There’s a ton I haven’t touched on yet. This show was already 30 minutes long!
